Re: Soapbox: I Don't 'Get' Smash Bros. And I Just Don't Know Why

ricklongo

I enjoy Smash a lot; what I can't get into is competitive Smash. For me, the best thing about the series is the chaos and the bonkers situations that arise from it. Give me items, give me trophies, give me hazards, give me final smashes. When you take those out, all that's left is a mathematical grind of priorities, animation frames, and dodging - and that's not for me at all.

Re: Team Cherry Teases Hollow Knight Hornet DLC Reveal Coming Later This Week

Probably my favorite metroidvania of all time... And yet I can't see myself going back for this.

DLC for single player games never manage to entice me at all, as I'm never really interested in bite-sized addendums to those titles. I just wish Team Cherry were working on their next project instead, which is gonna be a day-one buy for me no matter what.

Re: Level-5 Shares New Yo-Kai Watch 4 Trailer

@Scottwood101 I though the game suffers from extreme bloat - like, almost half of the in-game mechanics are are just meaningless chaff in my opinion. It also has the worst story I've seen in a narrative-based game in a long time.

All personal opinion, of course. YMMV.

I'd be much more impressed and excited if I hadn't been severely let down by Ni No Kuni 2 last year. I don't think I'll give it a go unless word of mouth becomes incredibly positive, and especially so when it comes to comparisons to NNK.

Can't help but wonder what a proper Fantasy Life sequel would look like on Switch. That would be my dream Level-5 project right now.

Re: Atmospheric Puzzle Adventure Omno Could Come To Switch If Stretch Goal Is Met

ricklongo

@ilikeike Well, that ratio holds for gaming in general, I'd say - not only on Kickstarter.

As for this game: it looks great, but I'm honestly over Kickstarter. There's so much awesome stuff already out that I want to play that donating towards a future project that may or may not happen is just not something in my mind (or in my gaming budget).

Add to that the fact that the Switch is a stretch goal instead of a main platform and this gets a resounding no from me. I'm super open to giving it a go when it releases, though.

Re: Random: It Looks Like Soccer Star Cristiano Ronaldo Might Be A Super Mario Odyssey Fan

@MajorasLapdog @nofriendo Just wanted to add my voice and say nice on both of you to add some much needed rational counterpoints to this mob mentality. I'm honestly completely fed up with this sort of thing, and as such rarely engage in these discussions online. Still, I'm happy there are people who aren't as jaded as I am and are still willing to keep engaging.

As for Cristiano Ronaldo: yeah, he's probably in the top three footballers I've seen play in my lifetime, along with Lionel Messi and Ronaldo Nazario. Doesn't change the fact that there are documents proving his own admission to the rape charges. You people should stop being blind fanboys and get a grip.

Re: Nintendo Adds Trio Of Games To Switch Online NES Library Next Week

ricklongo

@Moroboshi876 Saying you own those games and will be able to play them "forever" is a fallacy. We're talking digital downloads. If your console breaks after the online store is taken down, or after a game's license is through (see: Scott Pilgrim on PS3), tough luck. And given how much VC games used to cost, Switch Online subscribers taking advantage of the family group option are paying less per year than you paid for each of those VC games.

I think Switch Online is underwhelming at best, won't argue that. But I vastly prefer such a cheap subscription, if the library keeps expanding, than having to keep buying overpriced old games individually. Or than having to pay significantly more on a monthly basis to get access to the stuff PS+ churns out each month.

Re: 82% Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas Sales Were On Switch In UK, Only Managed 14th In Charts Debut

I think the toys to life aspect is a big deterrent for this game's success.

I got the digital version, and I've been liking it a lot as a Star Fox open galaxy adventure. So much so that I honestly hope that's the way Nintendo takes the series going forward.

At the same time, I believe a lot of people see the toys to life aspect and instantly pass on it, without even realizing how 100% optional it is. The base digital version is absolutely a complete game, which isn't immediately obvious to a lot of people.

EDIT: @Ralizah your comment is exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about! If you're at all interested in the game's concept, I heartily encourage you to get the standard digital version. I swear you won't ever feel the need to purchase any of the toys, physical or digital. Game's fun, runs well on Switch, and has impressive scope.
