It's incredible to me how no single idea Sonic Team introduces in the series ever seems like a winner.
I don't know what turns me off the most here: the out-of-place character creator or the ridiculous fourth-wall-breaking of Modern and Classic Sonic being separate characters within a video game.
@Yorumi That's what I feel as well. The fact that they started branding their Windoes PC content as "Xbox" should be the writing on the wall.
I wouldn't be surprised if, after the Xbox One X, Microsoft's gaming division started working exclusively on PC titles (and/or supporting other consoles). I don't think there will be an Xbox Two.
As much as I think of Hearthstone as an oversimplified, poor man's Magic the Gathering, I'd probably give it a go on the Switch - especially if it's free to start.
Whew, finally a quiet week when it comes to games I want. Nice to get a respite and work on my backlog a bit while funting for Odyssey's post-game moons (still haven't finished the excellent Golf Story).
@Ichiban Claymation would be freaking awesome for the franchise. It would give it a different, unique look just like what happened with the original DKC. I think the graphics on Tropical Freeze are great, but high-definition cartoonish CG is how every similar game seems to look like these days.
Let me just say, as a guy with a DKC avatar, that I love how much praise for Tropical Freeze there is in this comment section, and how many people would seemingly be okay with Retro working on a new game in the franchise. I felt like I was the only one cheering back when Tropical Freeze was actually announced.
@retro_player_22 I understand, and I sympathize with the sentiment. I love good pixel graphics, and even I admit they've been overused as of late. What I was pointing out, however, is that asking for 16-bit style games instead doesn't really make sense, as that's what we've been getting already.
@Yorumi Fair enough about the player character, but even that has way more colors than the old NES usually achieved for player sprites. And even in the third picture, things like ground/ceiling details and the glass-like pseudo-glare on the energy box are examples of things that make it seem way more than the NES could muster. Agreed on such games generally being too much even for the SNES (so more like 'pseudo' 16-bit).
@retro_player_22 I think you're misremembering what 8-bit graphics look like. There's no way an 8-bit game could have graphics like that. This game's 100% 16-bit in style, as are many of the games you're probably thinking of.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There are still reports from people in Japan that's not the case (in this very comment section, even!). I'm sure things are getting better, but it seems it's still tough to get a Switch in Nintendo's homeland without taking part in a lottery or something like it.
In other parts of the world, things seem much better in that regard, though, which is welcome news.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE "Can people now please stop talking about Switch "shortages"? It's a load of nonsense."
I have no idea why you keep insisting on that. The shortages in Japan have been extremely well-documented, with articles on any number of dedicated websites.
I was interested before, but now I think I'll wait. The fact we got LA Noir coming soon makes that easier, as I should get my noir detective fix after I'm done with Mario Odyssey anyway.
Good to have confirmation. I might give it a go, but I have to admit I'm not the greatest Atlus fan. I can't stand Etrian Odyssey, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions, while an okay game, was much less than I hoped for. I didn't even get Persona 5 because I had been burned by Atlus games before, and I certainly wouldn't want to dedicate 100 plus hours to a game in that vein.
Either way, here's hoping this goes well. Who knows, maybe this will be the one to make me a believer.
So, what are the odds they sneak-announce Animal Crossing Switch in this direct by speaking about its interaction with the mobile game? Because that's pretty much the only way I'd be interested in thia one.
One can only hope Ubisoft sees the writing on the wall and makes figurines completely optional for Starlink. Seems like that's already the case, but you never know.
@JaxonH Well, not everyone. Negative nancies are still all around us, sadly.
Still, after being critical of Nintendo's decisions during Wii U's final couple of years, it's great to be personally excited again. Switch is a beast.
@sillygostly Sorry, but I believe that feature is way down in their list of priorities (as it should, since I suspect the vast majority of users have no real interest in using outside video programs to edit the footage).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE And a lot of them (including Elliot Quest) are gems that deserve to be played nevertheless, especially for those who didn't get to do it before. I fail to see the problem.
I played Elliot Quest on Wii U, and you don't see me complaining that other people get to play it now. Seriously, it's tiresome and makes no sense.
@jestermx6 You mean the Switch? Well, it gets loads of press (and good press at that) in every internet medium I frequent, including IGN, Eurogamer, US Gamer, Neogaf and Kotaku, and also on podcasts I listen to, including Easy Allies and Kinda Funny.
@jestermx6 Who's 'everyone else'? The system is selling like hotcakes and is getting tons of good press. The way you tell it, it seems like it's aimlessly flailing and hasn't found an audience.
@jestermx6 "The entire appeal of the Switch is rooted in its ability to be a home and mobile console all at the same time."
Well, yeah, and the entire appeal of a car is that it can help you get to places faster.
The Switch is great. I've established a moratorium on buying new games until Odyssey, as Stardew Valley is taking all of my free time, and I still gotta finish Golf Story and start Pan Pan. I even decided to postpone getting South Park for the PS4, as I know I won't find it in me to actually play it anytime soon.
My friend got this one and I got to watch his first run. Game looks gorgeous, but the constant movement bugs me about it. What I love about survival games is getting to build a small base and turn that into a fortress, like I was able to in Don't Starve. I'm not sure the additions to the raft will quite scratch that particular itch for me.
I can't for the life of me understand how some people prefer the old overlong dungeons to the beauty of puzzle solving and engineering that are the Divine Beasts. Dungeons had never been a highlight of 3D Zelda games for me before Breath of the Wild.
Cool read. I wish my folks wanted anything to do with gaming, but all the gaming I've ever seen my father do is trying (and usually failing) to beat Mega Man bosses I found too hard on my NES, while my mother still actively dislikes the hobby. I guess she does play the occasional Candy Crush or Angry Birds on her smartphone, though, but she can't really comprehend the devotion and sense of wonder the medium can cause.
Can't wait for Mario Odyssey. I'm getting Friday after release off work, so it should be a good day to say the least.
Flame in the Flood seems right up my alley. Not geting it right now, as it seems Stardew Valley will last me until Mario Odyssey (and beyond), but it definitely goes on the top of my eShop wishlist.
Yeah, the Stranger Things allusion cements this for me. I will go in fully aware I'll be bored by the gameplay, however, but that's something I'm willing to endure every now and then in name of a great story (hey there, Night in the Woods).
Didn't know this was a 3D platformer. I'm interested, but I'll probably wait for a discount (especially because Stardew Valley has a way of taking over your life, and as such I can't really see myself playing anything else until Mario Odyssey arrives).
Man, I started playing last night at 11 PM and I'm already hopelessly enthralled. I don't think I'll find it in me to do anything this weekend apart from playing this little gem.
So it's confirmed that next week will be, like, the fifth week in a row with at least one must-download indie game released on Switch? And isn't Yono releasing next week as well?
I wish I could go back in time and share this with myself during the Wii U days.
This is probably the one game I wish the most was on the Switch instead (even more than Metroid, yeah), since my 3DS has a busted circle pad that I won't bother to fix for now.
There's talk of a new Layton entry next year, though, so let's hope.
@rjejr I think that's the plan, no? Rocket league and Doom, as far as I remember, are both pegged for a December release (along with Xenoblade).
And there's also L.A. Noire in November. I think it's neat (and smart) that Nintendo will give big third party releases a month to shine, with no real first-party competition.

My dude, if there's confirmation of a Donkey Kong Country game coming next year, your boy may just start squealing for a few minutes.
If that's a 3D Donkey Kong, then, I can't even start to fathom what my reaction would be.

Re: Super Mighty Power Man Is The Mega Man Game You Always Wanted On Switch
It looks awesome, and the Super Sentai x Mega Man vibe is one of those ideas that seem so obvious in hindsight.
They REALLY could use a better name, though. I get that they're trying to riff on the Super Sentai genre, but that's just way too generic.

Here's to the continued success of this wonderful little machine.

You should refrain from buying this game because it's going to suck enormously.
Re: Review: Stardew Valley (Switch eShop)
