Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone - best known as ConcernedApe - has posted a new developer update outlining future plans for the game and briefly touching on his new project set in the same universe as the existing release. Here's what he had to say about this new title:
"As many of you know, I’ve been working on a new game for a while. I haven’t revealed anything about it, except that it takes place in the same universe as Stardew Valley. I’ve been deliberately secretive about it because I want to be able to work on it without any pressure for the time being. I also want to make sure the concept is fully realized before revealing anything, because once it’s out there, I’m going to have to fully commit to it. I’m a pretty cautious person when it comes to this sort of thing."
He went on to explain how he still planned to work on new content for Stardew Valley and would be forming a team to help rollout future update for the games:
"For a while, I considered being finished with Stardew Valley altogether. But that would make me (and many others) sad. So I’ve decided that I’m going to form a team to help me work on future Stardew Valley content. The update I’m working on right now (1.4) will be another solo update, but after that I hope to have a team in place that I can work closely with on future content."
Even though he's focused on version 1.4, ConcernedApe reassured console owners he hadn't forgotten about them:
"I’m aware that saying “I’m working on new content” might be aggravating to those on consoles who don’t have the 1.3 update yet… Or to those on Switch who are experiencing frame rate issues in the new patch... It’s very important to me that I make good on my promises… the idea of expanding further while there are still lingering issues and unmet promises disturbs me, and isn’t something I want to be doing. So I want to make it clear that these issues are my top priority... it takes precedence over any new content… however, I don’t do those ports myself, they are done by Sickhead Games...I am also doing what I can to see the issues with Switch multiplayer get fixed, but that is also not something I can directly accomplish."
Are you looking forward to the new game from ConcernedApe? Have you been playing the multiplayer update? Tell us below.

I think he should "dew" it! /crickets
Stardew Valley is just fantastic. I’d rather like a new game. Also nice to hear plans of future support with the game.
....Whatever happened to that Hogwarts simulator game? :/
It will get a multiplayer for Switch update in 2029.
I just want more dungeon-crawling. That was, in my opinion, the best non-farming part of the game (or even the best part of the game).
I played the crap out of harvest moon as a teenager and always wanted a bigger better harvest game but I found stardew very bland and only played about 12 hrs. I wanted to like it so much but I just couldnt get into it. I think there's something wrong with me?
In the same universe, but it is not a farming simulator. I’m not sure what that could be. Aspects of SDV have been inspired by dungeon crawlers so he could be working on something like that game Moonlighter, but that’s just a guess.
In the age of internet and hype I understand why he wouldn’t want to say anything until the concept is set in stone.
Eric doesn’t seem like the kind of developer that will leave a game in early access for years, so I’m sure when he reveals it there will be a lot to show. Mad props to this man and his dedication to the fans of his game.
@bolt05 Nothing wrong with you. The game is not for everyone.
I will say that the game is quite obtuse at first because it gives you a big sandbox and some players won’t know how to get the most out of it. At first the game just seems to be all about routine- wake up, water the crops, collect some eggs, etc... but as you start rebuilding the community center and befriending the residents, the many layers of the game reveal themselves.
The game has moments that will surprise you and then you realize the love and care that went into the development of the game.
I’ve been playing the game off and on for 2 years and am still learning more about Pelican Town and the NPCs that inhabit it.
@Sanya_Claus different dev
I really love this game and would love more content. After 200 hours I've done nearly everything... except I STILL can't find a blood Dinosaur egg!
@Delibheel I thought they said the creator of Stardew Valley was making it. >.>
@Sanya_Claus no, they said the publisher of SV was publishing it
RAINSTAR HIGHRISE:
Your Aunt has died, and she has left you her hedge fund business in the city. So you leave your little farm to chop through red tape, build a portfolio, and sow seeds of discord in the office, at all times buying lavish presents to impress your possible sexual conquests. You have an exhaustion meter which is refilled by vodka and cocaine.
Plants vs Zombies.
At this point, I'll day one buy anything this guy puts out. Immensely talented dude.
I will be watching this space very closely. Dude has insane talent. Glad to see him thinking about moving on to a new project, and equally glad it will have ties with Stardew.
@Heavyarms55 You could do the wallpaper exploit.
Too much to go into here but worth a google if you’re desperate for a Dino.
Odd thing hey made a Japan physical but no NA mentions.
@The__Goomba @Mayor_Haggar I'll have to look into those options. Thanks for the tips.
This guy needed a team to help him yesterday. - Stardew is amazing. Good to hear he feels obligated to make right on iffy patches.
...Anyone else think Stardew would make for a fun tv series? It’s got it all.
I'm interested...
@Quincy games with romance aspects don’t make good tv series or movies. Simply for the fact nobody will ever be happy with whomever the characters end up with.
If you are curious, this is the quoted reason Harvest Moon/Story Of Seasons games stopped having rival marriages.
@Delibheel I definitely understand what you're saying. ...However, I would recommend avoiding any cemented relationships and just build on sexual tensions. ...Instead I would have the show do some fish-out-of-water scenarios (being a new guy running a farm) with an occasional super natural thing happen to spook you. ...I'd want a vibe like Twin Peaks or Northern Exposure. - - - No completed relationship stuff. Too easy to alienate fans.
@Quincy people would probably complain about the lack of romance then
@Delibheel Yeah, malcontents are gonna complain. - No reason for us not to something.
