Re: Video: Nintendo Goes for a Dramatic Approach in Its Fire Emblem Fates Launch Trailer

@CreamyDream I didn't want to shell out the cash for these two games at the same time, either, but back in 2015 around Black Friday or Boxing Day, both Best Buy and Amazon were offering a 30% discount when you preorder two or more games online. I didn't think twice and managed to get each game at 34.99 CAD instead of 49.99. I knew that these games would never go down in price b/c even Awakening went up in price recently. I'm kinda proud of myself. Keep your eye out for retail and eshop sales b/c I think those will happen eventually. Just get one. You may never end up playing both. Even though I have both, I can't play two games at the same time. There is plenty of content in just one. When you finish one, you may or may not be influenced to get the second one.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Fates (3DS)

I preordered both when there was a "Preorder two games, get 30% off" deal last year. That makes it so both retail copies cost the same as one retail copy + one DLC copy. My interest did wane around the last quarter of Awakening and so even after two attempts over 2 years, I have never completed the main campaign. However, I'm hyped to begin playing Birthright as a refresher course/lead-in to Conquest. I'm just worried that I won't make it to either game's conclusion if my interest does wane again. I've also learned my lesson: No game-breaking DLC with infinite EXP, cash, and legendary weapons! I have purchased two full games-worth of content that I don't feel DLC will be necessary until I complete them both and then I might give Revelation a whirl.

Re: 7th Dragon III Code: VFD is Heading to the Americas This Summer

ollietaro

Yes to this!! I am so glad b/c this was one of the ones I thought would never get licensed as 7th Dragon DS wasn't. Canadian launch price is unacceptable and I certainly will not be paying that but I will buy it when it becomes reasonably priced, for sure. This looks like it'll turn the party for me. The thing is, after playing Lord of Magna for a while, I thought RPGs could use a bit more detail and exploration on the 3DS despite the limitations in power. If we can have games as gorgeous as Bravely Default and Fantasy Life, then the 3DS can certainly be powerful enough. Maybe you just have to be a first party or major third party developer to do it.

Re: Monster Hunter X (Cross) Sales Hit 3.2 Million as Capcom Talks Up 'Firm' Overseas Results

@Xenocity Rejecting something b/c it appears feminine is pure misogyny and makes me wonder why your classmate would date a guy like that. I love that there's a game system out there just for me (3DS). At the game store, the 3DS section appeals to me the most and the PS4/3 and Xbox One/360 seem a bit less approachable. I have started to open up my options to Playstation games after I bought a Vita to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (b/c I loved MH3U 3DS) and a PS3 to play Silent Hill and more Resi games (b/c I loved Resi DS). It was thanks to my experiences with Nintendo systems that I opened up my gaming library to include specific Playstation games. I'm still not after the Call of Dutys and Gran Turismos but I do know I can enjoy some unique games on a PS system. Perhaps being a gay person has something to do with it and it allows me license to choose feminine things b/c it's practically expected of me and no one raises an eyebrow if a gay guy gets into feminine things. I have played over 1000 hours on MH3U 3DS and I'm happy to play Fire Emblem and Style Savvy, as well. The 3DS was made for me.

Re: Review: Terraria (3DS)

If this game does not perform well on a standard 3DS, then I will skip it. A smoother MH4U experience is slightly more enticing than a smoother Terraria one to convince me to purchase a New 3DS. However, neither are convincing enough to spend $200.

Re: Video: Take a Look Behind the Scenes of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

ollietaro

Yes, I definitely see the evolution in concept from Brachydios to Gore Magala as they each have blasts that add a status effect to the player. Gore Magala's frenzy virus affects the game a lot more than Brachydios' slime b/c every single monster can be affected with frenzy and thus affecting the hunter however only one (in 3U) can inflict slimeblight. Also, I'm glad he talked about the single player experience as that is the main way I prefer to play the game. I think 4U is a tougher experience for single players than 3U was.

Re: Sales for Dementium Remastered Have Been Much Lower Than Expected

ollietaro

Well, Dementium Remastered stands out on 3DS b/c survival horror is rare on this platform. Even if it is just serviceable survival horror without too much character, it still stands out. I would even encourage the dev to remaster it further for Playstation systems and optimize it for the twin stick controller, especially the PS Vita which has twin sticks and survival horror is scarce for it at the moment. I would do what the above dev mentioned and add enemy reaction animations and sounds when the player is beating the pulp out of it.

I encourage the dev not to stop there and keep going to make Dementium even better. Hell, there's a window left open by Konami and their incredible axing of Silent Hills. Sir Watsham and his team should strike while the iron is hot (and new Silent Hill games are lacking) by releasing a new-and-improved patch for 3DS and the full game optimized for Playstation. There's no love lost if it becomes no longer a Nintendo-exclusive.

Remember back when Renegade Kid proposed a DS Silent Hill to Konami and they went ahead and made a survival horror game anyway when they were rejected? Well, I say make it even better and make it a true competitor to Silent Hill and take advantage of Konami's foibles See, RK already had the determination to release Dementium, so why not go further with it?

Re: Sales for Dementium Remastered Have Been Much Lower Than Expected

Dementium Remastered. Came. Out. Too. Late. I was hyped for Halloween since August by completing Resident Evil DS and RE: Revelations (3DS). I was watching Silent Hill (PSOne) 'Let's Play's on YouTube, AND I was looking forward to the release of Dementium Remastered. After October 31st, my interest in Survival Horror dwindled and I went back to playing other game genres. $14.99 is not a bad asking price for a better version of a DS game I never played. It looks like a decent Survival Horror experience and it would have sold like hotcakes had it been released during the Halloween-themed eShop. It would have gotten an icon front-row-centre as soon as you'd load up the eShop but October 31st came and went...I still plan on buying it, though.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Fire Emblem Characters in Smash Bros.

ollietaro

@Caryslan True. I think the point that marred the experience just a little was the grinding in the Tower of Valni and Lagdou Ruins. I began to turn the battle animations off just because there were so many battles on a floor. I agree with you that it's a great way to level up weaker characters, for sure. And you needed to complete the Lagdou Ruins/Tower of Valni multiple times to unlock boss characters for your party, if you wanted to. I enjoyed the game immensely and it certainly didn't lack for enjoyable time spent.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Fire Emblem Characters in Smash Bros.

ollietaro

@Ryu_Niiyama Yes. I, too, am grateful for the purpose that FE: Awakening served. I hope it convinced new players to pick up the old GBA, GCN, and Wii Fire Emblems to play and see what a Fire Emblem game was like without grinding for EXP (save for Sacred Stones). In those games, your only chance to level up characters was in the campaign. There were no skirmishes or maps you could grind to beef up your characters and progress by means of brute force. It forced the player to be more tactical and decide on training the team they wanted from the get-go and leave the other recruits in 'development hell'

Re: Review: Dementium Remastered (3DS eShop)

@Knuckles The same images were used multiple times because NL uses only what the publisher gives them. Since NL uses 7 spots for photos and they only got three images from the publisher, they had to repeat them.

Re: Review: Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (DS)

I completed this game in 2015! So glad I did. I had to ease myself into it at first by playing it for 5 minutes and then pausing b/c I was getting too scared but eventually I got used to it and played it for longer sessions b/c I just got absorbed into the whole experience. When I finished it I was sad b/c I realized I was enjoying it so much and wasn't trying to rush through it or anything.

Re: Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Passes Four Million Global Sales

ollietaro

There aren't any subspecies announced for MH:X so my guess is there will likely be a G version. I take it people enjoy MH4U when they play it in groups. I made it all the way to G2 solo. I get the hint that the developer tampered with monster behaviour in 4U a bit more than in 3U. I can't complain but it was not fun farming frenzied G-rank Garugas. I completed the G-rank Gunner armor set and I am satisfied with it. Gunning allowed me to stay well away from G-rank Gravios' endless fire farts.

Re: Dementium Remastered Pricing Confirmed as Renegade Kid Looks Ahead to Release

ollietaro

A thousand times yes to this! I'm so excited for this game. I'm really enjoying my $8 eshop digital copy of Resident Evil Revelations and I can't wait for Dementium Remastered. I've just recently discovered the Survival Horror genre of games and now I can't get enough of getting scared the crap out of. I've literally shouted in fear while playing Revelations when an Ooze grabbed Jill from behind. The original Resident Evil on DS is a fantastic game, as well.

Re: Renegade Kid Wants to Release Physical Versions of its 3DS Games

ollietaro

I'm sad to hear my fellow gamers in Europe don't get access to Renegade Kid's games. I can see a Moon Chronicles/Dementium Remastered dual collection for retail. Having the sprite-based games with the 3D shooters wouldn't fit. I want Dementium Remastered when it comes out in the eshop. Would rather have news regarding that title.

Re: Renegade Kid Twice Pitched Silent Hill DS Projects to Konami

ollietaro

@Prof_Clayton You're definitely right. It's just bad business to blame the consumer. Regarding Silent Hill, I think Renegade Kid was not out of line by suggesting they take the helm of a Silent Hill DS project since they went ahead to produce a Survival Horror DS game anyways. It shows they are dedicated and that they try. You have to commend the ambition it takes to want to produce an FPS on the DS. I think a 3DS remaster of Dementium will show how far they've come, if they have, and hopefully it will deliver. I get annoyed with pompous blowhards, too, but it also seems Konami does not make great decisions regarding portable Silent Hill games as evidenced by Silent Hill: Book Of Memories (even though WayForward is an excellent developer).
