Re: Kingdom Hearts Cloud Versions Updated, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

NGL if this collection went down to $20 I would buy. I have no other means to play it and have a stable fibre connection at home where I play exclusively. If they said it was too difficult too port then that's it. People act like every game is easy to port which is totally untrue. It all depends on how it was first made.

Re: Team That Localised Fire Emblem: Awakening And Echoes Isn't Working On Three Houses

ollietaro

I should point out that a translation is never going to be 100% true to the source material in its native language and purists will buy imports anyway. I think the Switch has a little more leg room in terms of perverted elements since it embraces mature games more than the 3DS. Unless you've lived in, and breathed, Japan for 5+ years, you're not going to be able to appreciate all the native puns/idioms referenced in the game. You'll likely get the fuller experience from the game in your native language. Also, the dev team was left with triple the amount of pages they asked for of unedited story from the author so even after all that editing, the story remained convoluted. Deadlines have to be met, and release dates have to be honoured. The small team at Treehouse was left compromised for time during the entire localisation process. If you want to blame someone, then blame Nintendo. XSeed take their time and always deliver a high-quality product even when that means delays. The Fates games and situation was just a mess. All that marketing put pressure on the localisation team to deliver by a strict deadline. I will say that it's not like Nintendo to put out low-quality product. I hope it's handled better in the future.

Re: Charge Your Switch On The Go With These Officially-Licensed Portable Power Banks

I've read that Anker is the better brand so this makes sense. I already have the Jackery 20100mAh Thunder X (at only $33 CAD) which, according to one comparison test, provided less power in testing than others but likely still enough to handle the Switch's 4310mAh battery. I use it to play Pokemon GO. The PowerCore 20100 will likely cost 119.99 CAD so I'm good with my budget powerbank.

Re: Dark Souls Remastered To Feature Improved Frame Rates In Blighttown

@thiz From a business perspective, producing ports is a wise decision. Studios can develop new games while older ones get outsourced to porting studios and will generate more profit. Why let old assets go to waste? Players who've never played the game before will benefit from the experience and so will the companies that produce it. It's Win-Win! I can understand how having a lot of ports in the catalogue can make it seem like there are very few new, original titles but that's really the only inconvenience. The Wii U did not have this much enthusiasm from third-party devs in its entire lifespan. If ports do well, every Switch owner benefits regardless of whether they buy 'em or not b/c it creates a healthy, thriving ecosystem for all.

Re: Flip Wars Developer Over Fence Files For Bankruptcy

These types of people do eventually find employment with other devs, it's just a matter of time. Hopefully they can join studios like Artplay and DICO to work on Bloodstained. You wanna make a splash with your games and Flip Wars does not sound like it made one.

Re: Guide: Pokémon GO Super Incubator - What It Does And How To Get It

ollietaro

@Jayronauron You are absolutely right about these GO articles clogging up the regular NL news. Three of these redundant articles were grouped together, thus forcing more important stuff down the list. I don't think that building awareness for the GO game will work well here and there's already plenty of info about it at one google search away.

Re: Guide: Wurmple Pokémon GO Evolution Tips - How To Evolve Wurmple Into Silcoon Or Cascoon

ollietaro

This "info" is already avail. elsewhere and if the answer is "it's entirely up to chance", then you might want to lump it in with an article covering ALL special evolutions in GO incl. the ones that require walking with a buddy. Everyone who wanted to find out has already done so by googling it. I understand NL have to cover Ninty's mobile offerings but please let's be reasonable about real estate here. You might want to make the next guide on which 'mons will be receiving new evolutions in 4th gen which is so close so users can save certain mons b/c they might have discarded them thinking they were weak. Not every GO player knows all about each generation's offerings.

Re: Soapbox: Switch Continues To Give Older Games A Second (Or Third) Chance At Redemption

ollietaro

Wii U games Bayonetta 1+2 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze have always been on my radar so I'm glad I'll get a chance to play them when I buy a Switch. Playstation ports, I can't complain. There's something for everyone here. Wouldn't mind if Topspin 4 is ported. Would love to play Skyrim with the only caveat being time investment and the fact, at some point, I plan to be wholly invested in BotW. Planned Phoenix Wright game? It's a great time to be a gamer.

Re: Pokémon GO Could Be Getting New Story Quests

ollietaro

Just started playing a month ago and got to Level 25 already. My friend and I had a blast on our first Community Day catching surfing Pikachu (although I was disappointed it wasn't on a surf board). We're looking forward to the next Community Day on Feb. 24th featuring the rare Dratini with an exclusive move! (I'm guessing it's Extremespeed although it won't matter as they forget moves upon evolution)

Re: Review: AeternoBlade (Switch eShop)

ollietaro

This culture of developers copying and pasting games they made YEARS AGO onto newer systems is gross. Like, I don't know, they could have used their time more wisely to develop a whole new game perhaps? I didn't know it was possible to run out of assets...

Re: Review: Pokémon Crystal Version (3DS eShop)

ollietaro

Crystal was one of the only Pokemon games I never played and it seems worth it for the new story, new Ruins puzzles, animations, battle tower, and so on. A great excuse to replay Gen II rather than replaying Silver or HeartGold. I really want to transfer Pokemon in the Aprikorn balls to my Ultra Sun version if only for the animations (also Friend Balls give you free friendship to make those friendship evolutions happen quickly).

Re: Nintendo Switch Tops US Sales In December, 3DS Sales Highest Since 2014

ollietaro

@MasterWario It's like in Japan when both the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim came out. Slim was advertised as the more affordable option. Same reason why Switch AND 2DS/New 2DS/New 3DS are simultaneously in production. I think both systems help sell each other. It benefits Nintendo to deliver as many of their systems, regardless of generation, in households as they can. Families that purchase 3DS may one day purchase a Switch. Besides, do you think Ninty's using their 3DS profits to fund more 3DS games or Switch games? I think it's a healthy market situation.

Re: Nintendo Switch Tops US Sales In December, 3DS Sales Highest Since 2014

ollietaro

@MasterWario "The 3ds was a great value years ago." Not everyone is an early adopter like you. A parent or grandparent sees in store both the 3DS and Switch and thinks, "Hmm, $79 for 2DS or $399 for Switch?" They might splurge on a Switch for little Jimmy or be budget-conscious and buy him a 2DS instead. Little Jimmy (LOL) probably begged for a Pokemon game for months so a generous family member will likely get him the system that can play it. They might even buy him a used DSi since Pokemon DS games can be found at game stores. Game systems of previous gens always overlap with the newest one for some time. And the Japanese are notorious for continuing to buy older systems. They are still buying PS3s.

Re: Soapbox: What The Upcoming Pokémon Switch RPG Can Learn From Recent Pokémon Games

ollietaro

Regarding the comments: I agree with the point that new features are added every gen but then done away with in following gens. I liked how contests were built upon in gen 4 and sad they and berry planting were done away with in gen 5 in order to accommodate the emphasized story. I did enjoy playing with Mega Evos b/c it got me more interested in pkmn I don't usually go for like Abomasnow. I wished more were added in gen 7 since they kept the mechanic but was happy with most Alolan forms. I want new forms of oldies to stay as a mechanic in the next gen. I also want new evos of existing pkmn back. They went to town on this in gen 4 and then did away with it every gen after and some pkmn are still waiting for their evos. Durant's design screams "incomplete evo line". Bouffalant is clearly the evolved form of Tauros but not technically. I think Mega Evo and new evos are similar and would be happy with either mechanic returning. I like most new pkmn designs but felt there were too many in gen 5. I love Mimikyu's design b/c it's creepy and has a tragic backstory: Perfect for those of us who are tired of seeing Pikachu on every pkmn product (who is incidentally more challenging to catch in gen 7). I never minded Klefki unlike what I've heard but I just thought it felt like one piece of a longer evo line. Maybe there should be a mini cooper pkmn that evolves into a hummer only when Klefki is in your party? Bonus for haters: Klefki disappears once the other pkmn evolves! Flavour text would go: "Minicoopa evolve only when they receive the energy of Klefki in their ignitions." Klefki's Steel/Fairy typing works well for this, too!
