Re: Review: Hey! Pikmin (3DS)

In other words: Not worth a 49.99 CAD purchase. I have to admit it wasn't that appealing from the get-go. Would still buy it on sale for $20. I can feel Nintendo's attention moving on with Switch and yet they will still charge like it's a Triple-A title from 2014.

Re: A New Tamagotchi Game Is Heading To The 3DS In Japan

ollietaro

I'm mildly interested in a localized version but skeptical there will be one in the first place. Not sure how prolific Tamagotchi is in the West right now. Three of these games were localized for DS so you might think this new one would likely see a Western release, however, that was a different time.

Re: Parascientific Escape Series Comes to an End This Week in North America

I just like the fact a visual novel adventure game trilogy exists in the eshop. I would have loved to see the Higurashi games as well. With Phoenix Wright, Corpse Party and Zero Escape, we certainly have a sizable amount of quality games in this genre. Vita has more VNs and those previously mentioned VN Adventure games but replace Phoenix Wright with Danganronpa. Know of any other VN Adventure games on Vita?

Re: Video: Unboxing and Testing the New Nintendo 2DS XL

I'm not in the percentage of the audience for the New 2DS where I can't see 3D or it bothers my eyes. I also enjoy the 3D effect in the titles where it's executed well. I will continue to support the 3DS as long as they keep making games for it. I bought my first ever SNES game, Super Metroid, just recently and I'm excited to be playing it.

Re: Video: What We Think Could be Announced at E3, and What Definitely Won't

@Olmectron I'd be happy for a new Zelda game anytime for 3DS but we've already gotten three (plus Hyrule Warriors Legends) and there have typically been 2-3 per console so I don't know. But I get what you're saying to have a completely new one as all 3DS releases have been based on past games. They have all been new experiences for me, however. I never played the N64 games.

Re: New Nintendo Selects 3DS Games Coming to Australia

ollietaro

I'm surprised these are just arriving to Australia. I was looking forward to seeing new titles that NA hasn't gotten yet/will potentially get (like foreshadowing). I have not yet bought a single Ninty Selects b/c I already had the pre-Selects version of the game or b/c games like Mario Party Selects have been replaced by Star Rush as the one to get and wait for a sale on. I'm just waiting for Mario Tennis and Golf Selects. Come on!

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Heroes (Mobile)

Fire Emblem Lite that must always be connected to Wi-Fi...It's a reach b/c I only have the resources to play one Wi-Fi-only game which I already do. The beauty is that these games can be updated eternally and eventually can become a better, deeper experience. But with two of my Fates in my backlog and Fire Emblem Echoes on the way, I won't be lacking in deep FE experiences for a long time and I'd rather use my free time to play those. I felt like Awakening was sterilized FE but apparently you can sterilize the franchise even further...

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)

@Mainsaile I'm assuming there is no 3D in order to mitigate performance slowdown. I would chalk it up to that rather than laziness on the part of the developer. Usually when 3D is not included, it is to accommodate higher res graphics. That was the developer's stance for the past two Pokemon generations (X/Y and Sun/Moon). Dragon Ball Fusions doesn't have 3D either but it's still a fun game and I can see slowdown happening in the flying sections were they to be in 3D. Flying is smooth in that game so I wouldn't mess with that on account of adding 3D.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)

@Windy I loved Resident Evil Revelations, too. I played both that and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate 99.9% of the time with 3D on. Some 3DS games like Style Savvy Fashion Forward use shallow 3D and it's like, what's the point? I turn off 3D b/c it's not worth it so they could have made it like DQ VIII and used the extra resources to make it higher res. I'm sure the Style Savvy demographic cares not for 3D anyway.

Re: Review: Dragon Ball Fusions (3DS)

I've had a lot of fun playing this game! It made me interested in Dragon Ball so I started to read the full colour manga which fleshes out the characters I meet in the game. Game-play is really fun, too. Fusing is insane and fun and only fits with Dragon Ball. I wanna fuse Freeza badly.

Re: Fire Emblem Warriors Has Been Announced For the Nintendo Switch

ollietaro

Since this game's DLC is likely to offer more characters and maps from past FE games, old & new, I am excited for it. Also, it is likely it will be ported to 3DS and will likely get a boost in performance on the New 3DS (which I have and I won't buy the Switch for another two years until they release Switch Slim or Switch Pro LOL). If Koei Tecmo add support conversations that provide benefits on the field, then it would be even better!

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)

@MadameSpuki My bad. Yes, they are remakes. Yes, Monster Hunter looks amazing in 3D. I think Pokemon is setting a trend. To be truthfully honest, 3D in both 3DS Style Savvy games hurt my eyes and I could play Monster Hunter for longer in 3D. In Fashion Forward, with the 3D depth slider all the way up, every smooth edge becomes jaggy and the depth is not that deep (It's deeper in Trendsetters) so I definitely notice a dip in 3D depth and quality with newer 3DS games. I guess they figure it's at the end of its run so why bother trying and also it allows for higher res graphics so why not? We might even see more games (ports, remakes, new ones) for 3DS now that stereoscopic 3D can be taken out of the picture. With DQ XI being made in Unreal Engine for PS4, the 3DS version will look noticeably downgraded in comparison and even worse if they implement 3D but I wouldn't mind if they did a 3D-in-New-3DS-only like Hyrule Warriors Legends.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)

ollietaro

@MadameSpuki Hi. On 3DS, DQ VII is a port of the PSOne game and VIII is a port of the PS2 game which seems like the reason why only VII features stereoscopic 3D. I doubt the newly-announced XI will be in 3D but I wish it was. Big new releases are foregoing stereoscopic 3D altogether (Hyrule Warriors Legends, Pokemon Moon, Dragon Ball Fusions, DQ VIII). We know the reason is to make way for higher res graphics but still, tell me how there are many beautiful games that include it and now it is not so much?

Re: Mini Golf Resort Will Bring Serious Sport to 3DS on 22nd December

ollietaro

Okay, certain Sports games skip 3DS but not Golf ones, strangely. We've also had tennis and soccer and of course Mario Sports Mix is coming but this mini golf game sounds like it has a lot of content and thanks to Mario Golf GBA, Golf games are fun and interesting to me now. I would love to get Mario Golf 3DS when it goes on sale.

Re: Six New SNES Titles Hit The New 3DS Virtual Console In Japan

No problem...Perhaps hackers will convert the Thracia 776 english patch to work with the 3DS copy...Anyhoo, I played Thracia in English on my netbook years ago but on my N3DS, now that would be amazing but I don't want to hack my system now. You can friggin' play it on your cell phone (in English) now with SNES/Super Famicom emulation and it works.

Re: North American eShop Cyber Deals Bring Over 40 Discounts

Maybe Mario & Luigi Dream Team? Iunno...I still haven't finished Paper Jam that I got in another eshop sale. Dream Team has more character and originality, though, doesn't it? All games before Paper Jam had their own unique worlds until Paper Jam used the Super Mario-themed world, it seems. I preferred that better than Paper Jam's world, TBH.
