Monster Hunter Generations has plenty to offer, with multiple villages that'll cater to nostalgia and bring all-new content, along with new monsters and fighting styles for hunters. Beyond that, though, it also has the 'Prowler' Mode.
We've seen some confusion around what this actually is - it's the ability to play as a Felyne (which naturally handles a lot differently to a hunter - and tackle unique questlines or even play online. The following is an official description.
New playable Felyne "Prowlers" – Previously only available as custom support AI partners called "Palicoes," Felynes are now playable in "Prowler" mode with their own questlines and rewards, unique gameplay mechanics and gear.
Some of this mode's solo quests were also shown this week in a live stream by Capcom UK (click the link to watch it back).
It's an interesting addition, and could potentially add plenty of playtime to what's already an enormous game. Capcom's now given the mode its own trailer to show it off, too, which you can see below.

So this is available alongside the main campaign? Like, I can have my human hunter, and then also do this Palico mode thing on the same file?
@Ralizah @DarthNocturnal Yes, Hunters and Prowlers can play together
And Prowlers are basically like equipping a new weapon, so it can be used in the same save file.
Like how you could equip a Great Sword or Switch Axe, you could also enter Prowler mode. If that makes sense.
@Bladescarr Nice, so it's just another gameplay mode. This sounds so much better than Meownster Hunters.
It's cool there's a new mode and stuff but I don't think I'll be using it too much.
I actually hope that Felynes cannot fight along side Hunters and that it's a seperate mode altogether as I think it'd ruin the dynamic. I hope you can play online with other people also playing as Felynes, though, cos that'd be cool.
It'd be a nice way of getting new armour for your Palicoes... instead of the minigame thing from MH4U, you actually go out and hunt as the cats themselves.
@Tsurii MHX looks absolutely incredible, and yeah, the inclusion of an optional Palico mode that is actually fun will make me love it even more. All of the Palico stuff in MH4U is too much of a hassle for me to bother with, honestly.
I really enjoyed playing as a Plaico when I started playing MHX a few months ago. Can't wait to play it in English though.
This game is mandatory purchasing for 2016
Great googamoogals... Instabuy.
Prowler mode actually looks astonishingly fun! At the very least it would be a very fun side attraction. Besides, I love the Palicoes!
Me e e e ow baby ! Was always an instant buy its Monster Hunter ! We live to hunt another day ~
They already made the Meowster Hunter pun MH4U I don't know why they didn't just go with Meowster or Meowter if they were going to rename Nyanta.
This isn't a serious complaint by any means it just seems like a missed opportunity for a punny name.
It did not mention if you could do every quest in Prowler Mode or if there are quests exclusive to it.
Are they ever going to bring a new MH sequel to Wii U? I have Tri for the Wii, passed on MH3U because I didn't want to start over, and I am now patiently waiting for a true sequel on my home console.
