Not so long ago we highlighted Dementium Remastered as a 3DS title to look forward to this year, with the Renegade Kid title aiming to bring some horror to the portable's eShop. It's getting closer to release, too, with the studio confirming that it's now gone into Lotcheck approval for its North American release.
We previously shared some new features that will be in this game, which is bringing the DS retail original into the current generation. Following the news of it going into Lotcheck we caught up with the studio's co-founder, Jools Watsham, for his take on the title's progress. He's confirmed the pricing and outlined some of the work that's gone into making this a definitive version of the game.
Yes, I am extremely excited about Dementium Remastered. Feels great to have it wrapped up. Price wise, the game will be $14.99 and will release in North America as soon as it can!
I think players are going to really enjoy the game, and those who are familiar with the original DS release will hopefully appreciate the improvements we have made. We approached the remastering process in a way that retained the essence of what made the original game so special, but we did not view it through rose-tinted glasses. We did not let tradition, legacy or ego hold us back from making significant improvements that we feel bring the game up to par with modern gaming experiences.
Two of the most impactful changes that affect the gameplay experience are no respawning enemies and manual save spots. In hindsight, this was unintentional difficulty in the original release, and presented unfair difficulty - not something I am a fan of. As such, this makes the new experience a more digestible and balanced experience - but it also makes it easier. This is great news for most players, but the hardcore players out there who want something they can sink their teeth into will be happy to hear that we also added two difficulty settings above "Normal", in the form of "Hard" and "Demented".
The art has been completely overhauled. Renegade Kid's art director, Gregg Hargrove, and our Technical Director, Bob Ives, have implemented a wealth of new tricks to our toolbox, which enable us to utilize such delights as normal maps and detail maps that were not possible on the original Nintendo DS. Much of the geometry in the blood-stained corridors and gnarled enemies has also been redone, with higher polygon counts to present more definition and character to the visual presentation. It is disgustingly beautiful.
Another area of gameplay that we have focused on is how the weapons handle in terms of ammo and reloading. The system in the original game was kinda of strange. We have modernized this aspect for Dementium Remastered. This is something that will feel natural to new players, and improved for fans of the original.
Dementium Remastered runs at 60 frames per second on the regular 3DS with 3D on. It also supports the Circle Pad Pro and second analog nub on the New 3DS. Much like Moon Chronicles, the game offers a wealth of control options, including different button configurations and aim sensitivity adjustments.
It's also been clarified to us that this is most certainly coming to Europe, but isn't yet at that Lotcheck phase in the region; we will have an update for European fans a little later today.
Are you excited about Dementium Remastered on the 3DS eShop? Let us know.

SCary! also ! 60 FPS!
If only they could have packed both games into this remaster...
Nice. If it reviews well, I'll probably pick it up. The 3DS needs more decent horror games.
Ah yes! The first two games were fun, even with their flaws. Just hope this does well to warrant a third chapter to finish the story.
Never played this game before looking forward to its release!
I need to switch to bigger SD card but I'm defo gonna get this once it's available in europe! A decent price for a change. Was a huge fan of the original and its successor.
MINE!!!
Okay, I'm so happy about this... but when are we getting the Mutant Mudds Super Challenge game??
Weren't we supposed to have in on winter?
I need it so much =(
Nice price! Always wanted to pick this game up, so now seems like a great time!
A thousand times yes to this! I'm so excited for this game. I'm really enjoying my $8 eshop digital copy of Resident Evil Revelations and I can't wait for Dementium Remastered. I've just recently discovered the Survival Horror genre of games and now I can't get enough of getting scared the crap out of. I've literally shouted in fear while playing Revelations when an Ooze grabbed Jill from behind. The original Resident Evil on DS is a fantastic game, as well.
I want the second one, but at least now the Medusa heads won't be such maddening barriers to progress. Can't wait.
I'll give this another try but those flying bugs in the ds version were annoying enough to make me not like the game. Hope I enjoy it more this go around.
@ACK was it the Medusa heads in thinking about? Were there flying fly type enemies in the game?
I have never really been into Horror games in my almost 40 years of gaming. But I have just recently started to really like the genre. I'm a big fan of Renegade Kid and will definitely support this one .
So will it be out by Halloween?
The real big news here is that it's going to be released in Europe! Seriously!? AWESOME! Can't wait on that update. Please can we have Moon Chronicles too? Do either of these games have multiplayer?
@Spoony_Tech There was definitely an overpopulation of flying enemies as they were the bane of many players' existence. Whether they were actually Medusa heads I'm not sure, but I remember thinking they couldn't have been more generic, out of place, or annoying in their abundance (blowing your wad to clumsily clear a corridor only for them to respawn when you returned was too much).
I really enjoyed the originals back in the day but do remember those flaws being frustrating. The fact that these games were great anyway and that the team put so much work into this version make it a sure purchase for me. Way excited!
@davidevoid You must be like me, I beat the first game and can't convince myself to buy this, though I want to support the developer.
@holygeez03 ^^This is the question^^
@Totaldude911
I never played the original, but it seems like they have done enough to it that, if you enjoyed the original, it is worth $15 to play again on 3DS with updates.
I wanted but never got around to playing the original on DS so this is a day one for me looks and sounds fantastic .., now about the sequel ..
I am currently playing through Moon Chronicles and it has been pretty darn good so far! Because of that I will be checking this game out too since Renegade Kid clearly puts effort into their remasters.
Jesus, this remake is taking waaaay to long to come out. Seems like it's been in remake hell for 3 years.
No word on eu release is there?
Edit: ah, news later today.
Good that Europe also gets some news later today.
How about the European release of Moon Chronicles? It's soon one year late from the promised release date window for Europe...
Can't wait need this game asap!!
Day one. And that goes for 2 if they remaster it as well
So glad Dementium is getting another look in. Often exclusive Ninty horror titles get looked over but it's good to have another push for this as it was great.
