@stalepie2 Vita has plenty of dungeon-crawlers. Do you even own a Vita? I don't and I even know that there are Vita dungeon crawlers such as the recent Demon Gaze.
It's kind of not a spoiler since it was announced a while ago that all 3 Etrian DS games would be remade for 3DS. I'm personally really looking forward to the upcoming Etrian Odyssey game with the Persona coat of paint, Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. Looks freaky! (In a good way). Dungeon-crawlers are really popping up and they're all pretty fantastic games.
@Iggly The armor skill "Great Luck" (15 Fate pts.) increases chances for rare rewards. It can be found in the Gold Rathian set. Also "Capture Master" (15 Tranquilzr pts.) increases rewards for captures which can be found on the Plesioth X set.
@Funny_Moblin If they release MH4U on Wii U, it most likely will be a port since MH3U was however they also had Wii's MHTri to work with so there might also have been some porting of that version as well.
@HappyHappyist That's not a game glitch. I strongly think that was intentional by the developers. It just adds the extra challenge of making sure to trap the monster before it leaves. And if it does, you can still try to dung bomb it back into the area. I keep hunting until a monster limps away to their sleep area and then set the trap as close as possible to them while they're asleep. You have to wait until their tracking spot on the map stops moving before you enter their sleep area otherwise you will startle them. I use the MH3U Helper app for android it tells you the start and sleep areas of every monster.
Question: Can you port an SNES ROM in .smc format to PetitCom and play the game through it? I would just like to play the Japan-only translated Fire Emblem SNES ROMs on my 3DS. I guess what I'm asking is: Can PetitCom work as an emulator as well?
I don't understand why they would rush this game out, axe the RPG element, and not even release a Wii U version. What's going on these days? The N64 and GBC Mario Tennis games were released together, and similar to the GCN and GBA games. The handheld ones are both fantastic RPGs and now this? I didn't buy this one. Speak with your dollars.
It sounds like they really improved on the Mario sports titles on 3DS since Mario Tennis Open. It's a shame that Mario Tennis Open lost the RPG element that was in the GBC and GBA versions. Sports titles get monotonous fast and the RPG mode extended the gameplay tenfold. Even the tennis and golf games on GBA were RPGs and that's one of the reasons GBA is still better than 3DS.
Here's how the localization might be handled if it makes its way to us: If anything, they will keep everything in Japan and then somehow link it to the Grandfather Wright moving to the US. Done and done!
Ok, my guess for the localized name is: Felix Wright: Grand Adventures lol but seriously now, it is possible this won't get translated as the 2nd DLC case for Dual Destinies was not translated due to the fact that the company was too lazy to include a glossary of Japanese terms in-game. When a new traditional Japanese word comes up, the definition should show up bottom screen and we would have gotten that gorgeous DLC pack And this game looks gorgeous so it would be a real shame if it didn't make it to English-speaking fans. Also, can you imagine how the DLC for this one will be? More cases? Love it!
@Lavita I can also agree with you that appealing to the Call of Duty crowd is silly because they resist 3DS games anyway save for some who prefer both. In any case, we would like the game to do well so that we may get sequels. Gunvolt 4? That would be sick! It's practically a Mega Man 3DS game, Gunvolt is wearing blue for gosh sakes!
@Lavita Appealing to a broader audience doesn't make sense? It does if the game is expensive to make. This is no indie game. Core gamers will buy, but the publisher is probably thinking, "How can we squeeze out some extra sales from general consumers?"
I guess the Japanese image doesn't look typically male but it's up to the gamers how open they are to this sort of thing. I think they are trying to be clear which sex it is for the USA audience. The logic probably being that less gamers would buy a shooter with a female protagonist. Remember Zero had long hair AND wore pink so it might have read as female to some gamers.
I'm actually looking forward to this game since I pretty much beat the streetpass Flower Town (i just needed a few more breeds) and I'm looking forward to a deeper gardening game (Rune Factory 4 doesn't have customizable gardens and decorative options and Animal Crossing was tedium and no fun).
@StarDust I totally understand your playing style but that was my style before discovering MH. This is the first action game I really took to b/c I preferred strat rpgs like Fire Emblem but this game surprised me in such a great way. I don't look at it as a bunch of boss fights. There is a lot of depth of strategy to this game, it's insane. You cannot just press A or X and kill a monster; you must master technique of your preferred weapon and each one has their quirks. And excuse me, but what makes you think there is no exploration in this game? There's plenty. There are six maps of areas such as Tundra and Misty Peaks but b/c there are only 6, each is highly developed and offer depth and detail such as moving, breathing environments. At least play the demo, watch a YouTube video of expert players hunting a fierce monster, and then make your decision. Oh yeah, this game will kick your donkey but humans, we seek out challenges.
@StarDust When it comes to these games, don't give up! It was equally as hard in the beginning for me, too, however I improved by the 2nd and consecutive times hunting the same monster. You have to go into these quests with the mentality that you may or may not be successful this time 'round however you have infinite chances to redo it and you really will get better at it. I have made it to the very last G-rank quests SOLO, darling I have been killed more than 100 times and I still do. My technique is rough-around-the-edges. I will NEVER get thru a quest without taking a lot of damage (unless it's Low Rank, obvs). I hated this game when I first played the demo. Now I've clocked in 775+ hours.
I've logged 740+ hours in MH3U 3DS and still going. I've succeeded up to 8* port quests solo (except 1* which I did with a group). I need 1 more Allfire Stone to complete the Gold Rathian gunner armor set (waist). This game took hold of me back in April and I've been playing ever since I am going to ask my friends for help again to conquer the double monster arena quests.
@mullen I think you can choose at least one new streetpass plaza game because each one stands well enough on its own, just pick the one that interests you most because they really are fun and expand the experience quite nicely. They're especially fun for those who get a lot of hits like you do.
I bought all of these games as soon as they came out. What a blast they were! The space shooter Mii Force is actually really challenging but my favourite is Flower Town because the creative options are endless and there's a lot of room for expansion, too. I have grown 65/80 breeds of flowers. It's a fun one for the visual artists. Also, Mystery Manor seems endless at what, 50 floors? I still have not received the endgame hat for my Mii because it has a lot of depth and fun for what you'd consider a minigame. The thing that I like is that there's plenty of content to be had and these games can be played forever as long as you use your 3DS' streetpass. They continue long after endgame. You don't need to buy all 4 to enjoy because each stands well enough on its own but I have thoroughly enjoyed them all and will continue to do so in 2014!!
I'm still playing the 3DS version reaching closely to 700 hours. Still getting my donkey kicked by Jhen Moron. My Hunter rank is 72 which I reached SOLO, everyone. I'm trying to find people to help me finish the 8* port quests seeing as I can't fight two monsters at once solo. Please watch the profanity — TBD
I don't think Mario resonates with enough gamers to beat PS4 launch sales. If Nintendo released it at another time, it might score higher. Remember it's being bought by Mario fans, though. How much of these sales are actually ones that swayed someone from buying a PS4 or Xbox One? Most sales are driven by people who've already made up their minds. At this point in time, when Grandma goes to buy her grandson a next-gen home gaming system for Xmas, the only one available is the Wii U unless he's absolutely begged for a PS4/XB1.
@DaveGX I am unfamiliar with how phone companies work but the iPhone and others continue to develop gaming tech rapidly akin to the PC. The two worlds don't have to intersect because Sony and Micro still release game consoles because the hardcore market demands them. They are still Nintendo's competition, not phones. It's not how good the tech is, it's how you use it. Case-in-point: PS Vita vs. 3DS. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there a Steam handheld device available now or in the near-future? That will provide serious competition as well. Also Sony did well to use PC tech in the PS4 so that it could be high-tech and affordable to produce. Simple strategy. How expensive is Wii U tech compared to PS4?
@DaveGX Nintendo wouldn't need to charge subscription fees because they could just have phone companies manage those monthly call-related charges. All you would need to do is buy the games through the app store. Since graphics suffered due to the 3D effect, I'm sure they wouldn't mind sacrificing graphics again to accommodate a phone.
"3DS is the best we're going to get until Nintendo's next gen handheld comes along."
It sounds like you are disappointed with the 3DS, however I don't want to think about next-gen right now because I'm having loads of fun with my XL and they are even releasing too many great games for me to buy. And if Nintendo offered expensive services, they wouldn't be as successful. Nintendo has always been pleasing to the consumer with their prices. You would never pay $500 for a Nintendo system ever because they intentionally keep the technology less high-tech but still affordable.
@Sean_Aaron Here's my opinion of the Wii U: I love the idea of off-TV play on the gamepad however if the gamepad was slim enough to be a tablet that you could carry with you and play the same HD retail games anywhere, not just in your household, it would be a stronger sell. The problem is that would compete directly with the 3DS but I do think it a viable option next-gen. However, they could always upgrade the Wii U in this way (because they always upgrade their systems, right?) and add Wi-Fi to a slim gamepad. The one thing Nintendo has on their side is fully realized and in-depth games (compared to smartphone games) and if they were the only company with a tablet capable of playing these (not to mention all the Nintendo-exclusives) then that would make them a real challenger to Xbox One and PS4.
Nintendo is not going anywhere. It's going to take more than that to 'doom' them. IPhone has yet to prove to be a viable hardcore device. I think Nintendo should go in iPhone's direction and release their next system as a phone. That would certainly take away some from the mobile market cuz it would be able to play casual AND hardcore games.
The mistakes here are ones that most humans would do. They didn't spend enough time with proofreading b/c it's not a big retail release after all. I bought it b/c I want future PW games to be localised, too. The spelling might have been better if the games got more retail support but remember the flashkart days of the DS made it hard for these games to sell to their maximum potential.
I'm so disappointed about the non-3D overworld. I can understand that if only 1 can be 3D, then it has to be battles (ugh) but it's still a stinker. I will get the game reduced due to me trading in Animal Crossing, but still. At least our eyes get a rest and it did allow for more detail.
@dumedum Now that you mention it, both series of games are quite similar. Have you played Monster Hunter? It's somewhat different from Zelda. This outfit is only an armor and a weapon that you can get. That's the only "link" to the Zelda series there is. Both are action-adventure but Monster Hunter has you searching for monsters and slaying or capturing them in quests that you choose from a list whereas Zelda is story-driven. Both have exceptional adventuring aspects but it's difficult to describe the differences. Look up a youtube video of Monster Hunter and you'll see. However MH4 is rumoured to focus more on story and adventure sooo we'll see if you're right!
@koopakid Right! And its success is not even due to the fact games are in 3D for gosh sakes. It's madness how this type of gaming flies under the radar. You'd think people would want the most futuristic devices, but no. We flock to the 3DS because the games are great and the 3D effect is secondary to us.
@goldenlander I agree with you, the Vita may have a lot more JRPG options, especially with the access to the PSP library of games. However, you may want to play more kinds of games. I was a strategy-rpg-only player for a while until I picked up Monster Hunter and now I'm so addicted, clocking in 464+ hours on it!
@LordGeovanni You see ANOTHER 4 games coming out for Streetpass Plaza? It already takes forever playing these 4! If they do, I will be selective this time. Flower Town is my favourite and second to that would be the RISK-style one, but I could do without the shooter and the haunted house. My garden is so sick!! So you can only take in 10 ppl to these games? I thought the Plaza can hold 50 new ppl? At least you get to play the games over and over when cycling through ppl. You'll be able to make a bunch of progress in one day. I want to meet a lot of Monster Hunters, too!
LOL I guess this is good until a real Kirby 3DS game comes out. They are still not letting us forget Kirby with Nintendo Video episodes and VC releases so they must have something in the works.
This basically acts as the hunting horn which might mean that they're taking it out. Enough rumours! I want to know exactly what is going to be in this game!
"I hope they fail miserably on their endeavor to get the casuals on so they can realize the core gamers is what really matter..." @jhohaness
I think they will fail to attract the casuals b/c they are not gamers. They play cell phone games during their commute or in waiting rooms, but when they get home, they are not playing video games. I think all game companies have shown how remarkable console gaming is, so I'm sure some casuals convert to console gaming. But I feel like a crossover of the 2 markets is tricky, and I don't know what Nintendo is trying to do but perhaps take something from the other market that can add to the experience for the console gamers. Think about it: you can have cell-phone style games with console-quality graphics for a similar price. We'll start worrying when cell phone graphics catch up. I predict in a future console gen that there will be two Nintendo devices each called the "Nintendo Phone" and "Nintendo TV" b/c as technology evolves, the two devices will merge: Cell phone with console and television with console. I also think it will go a step further so that there will be gaming tvs with universal tech able to play all microsoft, sony, and Nintendo games.

@koopakid Right! And its success is not even due to the fact games are in 3D for gosh sakes. It's madness how this type of gaming flies under the radar. You'd think people would want the most futuristic devices, but no. We flock to the 3DS because the games are great and the 3D effect is secondary to us.
Re: Thriving 3DS Remains the Best Selling Video Game Platform for July in the US
@goldenlander I agree with you, the Vita may have a lot more JRPG options, especially with the access to the PSP library of games. However, you may want to play more kinds of games. I was a strategy-rpg-only player for a while until I picked up Monster Hunter and now I'm so addicted, clocking in 464+ hours on it!
Re: Downloadable 3DS StreetPass Plaza Content Has Generated 400 Million Yen In A Month
Re: Black 3DS XL Arrives in North America on 11th August
Have the XL but the next one I get will be the White Felyne one packaged with Monster Hunter 4 (assuming that comes to North America).
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 2 Listed For North American 3DS eShop Release on 1st August
LOL I guess this is good until a real Kirby 3DS game comes out. They are still not letting us forget Kirby with Nintendo Video episodes and VC releases so they must have something in the works.
Re: Monster Hunter 4's Insect Staff Weapon Attributes Detailed
This basically acts as the hunting horn which might mean that they're taking it out. Enough rumours! I want to know exactly what is going to be in this game!
Re: Satoru Iwata Aims for "Critical Mass" of Wii U Owners to Shift Perceptions
