Re: Splatoon 3 Expansion Pass Inks Its Way Onto Switch From Spring 2023

okeribok

  • Not exited at all for the cosmetic nostalgia bait of wave 1.
  • Somewhat exited for the "Copied city" like single player expansion.
  • Ambiguous about wether to get this or get the NSO expansion when this DLC gets added there.
  • Rather confused about wether we will be getting back gendered characters. Splatoon 3 player characters are genderless. But Callie & Marie are def. girls. And the player character in Side:Order looks girl-shaped to me.

Re: New Denuvo 'Switch Emulator Protection' Tech Launches, And Players Are Worried

okeribok

@Anachronism then why does anybody buy any software if they can pirate it? Because that's what most people do. And one should not "punish" paying customers for the greed of companies (or more likely: individuals looking for a raise or promotion). Companies like those that sell denuvo thrive on fear. Piracy is not a problem. Hurting your customers and making them pay for the extra expense denuvo would cost is.
Do some research before calling anybody "tremendouslu stupid". https://corsearch.com/does-piracy-impact-sales-a-look-at-the-data/

Re: Video: The Switch Desperately Needs This Nintendo DS Feature

@sanderev be that as it may, nintendo does just about nothing to grow a nintendo family from one enthusiast to a system-per-person household. And those are the next generation of players and buyers. New business vs cross selling.
A platform such as the Switch selling for over five years essentially unchanged means that there should be long term scale price - and margin benefits there. Perhaps not as much as apples margins, but still some profit.
Nintendo would lose very little in sales, since who buys the same game multiple times in the same household anyway? Nintendo would even contribute to their core strategy of bringing joy by bringing families together. All the while strengthening the bond young people have with the brand and their families.
Do it. Do it now! Free family cross play! I'll even buy the family expansion pack for this!! (Note; must still work without Internet connectivity)

Nintendo needs to loosen up on simultaneous restrictions. The one thing apple is doing right these days is allowing one purchase to play on up to five devices simultaneously and more if you have a family account. I would love to play more games with my family but buying the same game for times in the same household...
I don't think so!

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 'Second Wind' Mod Videos Targeted By Nintendo

okeribok

@jojobar even if they bought the game, they still need a doctored copy that runs in the emulator, which can only be made in ways that go against the eula. Plus it is so hard to do (I think you need a never updated first edition console), that indeed most people will have downloaded their doctored version illegally. which means: a large percentage approaching 100 of modders are pirates.

Re: Nintendo Uploads New Big Brain Academy Switch Overview Trailer

okeribok

I am curious to find out why I would buy this, if I already have the other brain training Switch app. Could NL start doing comparison articles, as Nintendo starts to add semingly very similar titles? (such as mario party (2018) vs mario party: superstars (2021) and maybe upcoming splatoon 3)?

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

okeribok

How on earth did Nintendo think this is acceptable pricing? The “expansion pack” is more expensive than the original product! A more reasonable price would be along the same lines as DLC for a main game, which is about 33-50%, not 130%!
If Nintendo wishes to find out how you chase away their customers, this is it! I am even thinking about canceling my current membership over this pricing.

Re: Feature: Seriously, What The Heck Is Going On Inside Samus’ Morph Ball?

okeribok

The way this works is even more occammy AND respects the animations in metroid games young and old: it is a combination of Samus rolling herself up like a ball PLUS a chozo oribular dimension, that does the rest. It is a dimension that has a different shape in the inside, then on the outside. On the inside, it is shaped like a person trying to roll up like a ball, and on the outside: it IS a ball!
And while rolling, she actually stays still. The universe rotates and is later edited out in video for our viewing comfort.

Re: Valve Responds To 'Switch Vs Steam Deck' Comparisons, Insists It's "Going After" A Different Audience

okeribok

So: any pc games that were ported to switch wil run much better and be a lot cheaper on steam deck. That is a threat to pc ports on switch.

But steam deck is twice as heavy as a switch, has worse battery life, probably even worse if you get the nvme ssd and it is not fast enough to make sense as a docked machine; about gtx 1030 performance with some added modern features.

The question is: how well do dolphin, cemu and other nintendo emulators run? If you can play windwaker hd, monster hunter stories 1 and xenoblade x on it, as well as the wither 3 and portal, will it be enough to put up with pc updates, bugs, driver problems and viruses?

Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"

okeribok

The $50 price difference will be negated soon enough when you buy the same games on Steam, where they are cheaper. But for example Doom Eternal on PC does not go well with a controller, at least for me. Oh and it isn’t a PC, it is linux with a compatibility layer. I don’t expect things to go perfectly smooth, like on Switch. Then again, this probably has bluetooth audio!
NVMe does require more power than eMMC, while being a lot faster. It will definitely have an impact on battery life and thermals.
