The 'My Nintendo Store' is currently under maintenance for several countries in the EU and will reportedly be down for "a few weeks", meaning it is currently not possible for users to browse or make purchases on the store (thanks to user NielsNL for the tip).
We've tested this out, and the store is down in France, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands among other EU countries. The reasoning behind this is unclear at this time; perhaps the stores are being updated to be more aligned with the UK version. Either way, we've reached out to Nintendo to get some clarification on the matter.
The timing, of course, may prove concerning for some users, as the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is just over a couple of weeks away at the time of writing. Furthermore, pre-orders of the Special Edition of the game are reportedly due to go live towards the end of July, meaning that folks waiting for its release may need to wait a bit longer. Hopefully, however, it may be the case that Nintendo is preparing for the increased traffic after pre-orders in North America caused the My Nintendo Store site to go offline.
If we hear back from Nintendo on the store maintenance, we'll be sure to let you know of any updates.

Weeks?
I mean with a good enough team behind it, it could be done quicker (based on what few web developer friends I have claim)
Luckily I rarely go to that site, it doesn't always work that well.
Ouch, poor EU people. Surely when you are updating a website, you just make an offline test site and then patch over the current one? Therefore only take a day, if that?
I just want them to fix the UK site so that it recognises my bank cards.
My Nintendo Store has nothing to do with buying digital games though, the eShop still works perfectly fine.
This will only affect those who want to purchase merchandising.
Here’s a stupidly naive opinion- Nintendo is secretly revamping the eshop to reveal a whole bunch of games and features that will be announced at a Direct soon.
It's ridiculous that the XC3 special edition is only available in the Nintendo store, it's even more ridiuclous that it isn't available to pre-order yet and now this
Surely it can't take weeks to perform maintenance on a website, right? RIGHT?!
Worst thing is, since I'm in Ireland, this is the My Nintendo Store that I use....
Anything being down "For maintenance" for weeks is a bit dubious, what could possibly take that long to fix?
Hoping it's for PayPal integration. Then I can finally actually make purchases on that cursed website.
@Bunkerneath
My experience has been that in order to place a pre-order on the My Nintendo UK site, you need to do it on a mobile device.
For whatever reason, using credit or debit card details on desktop is often impossible, and for pre-orders they do not accept any other method of payment.
@Yosher
I never understood why they do not accept Paypal for pre-orders.
They accept if you're ordering something that has already released and is in-stock.
weeks!?
Seems like terrible planning
@seaboyluca Physical games? Special Editions? Yeah, you need the My Nintendo Store.
I don't shop there so I'm not affected.
This maintenance has been on for weeks already (around the start of July), and this information has been reported multiple times by other sites (and even told directly to ye in your comment sections), this is extremely late reporting on it
At least I bought Live A Live before this, but I hadn't yet bought Xeno 3... Hm. :/
EDIT: wait my reading comprehension is bad it seems, i'm in UK so i'm fine
That's insane. Normal practice would be to have something in place behind a curtain so to speak and to switch over when it's ready.
@Olliemar28
That's the thing though, I don't recall the My Nintendo Store selling physical games, at least not in my country.
@RupeeClock Nope, mine doesnt work on all devices and all platforms.
For the N64 controller i used my work colleagues card and it worked perfectly.
When I last emailed them on the 10 June, they informed me that it was a problem they were aware of and "try to fix" but its been like this for over a year
Maybe they found a security issue. Will come back with improved stability.
Clearly they’re getting everything ready for NFT integration.
On a more serious note, everything sounds like a major active flaw in the site, possibly a security issue.
Unless it's urgent (and urgent week long maintenance sounds disconcerting in itself), the timing seems odd indeed. Especially as the elephant in the room, a big release with a Nintendo Store exclusive special edition, is followed by a whole month of none.🤔😅 Guess they've decided to give up on physical XC3 preorders until they can ship the full bundle in autumn.
I like the my Nintendo store UK. Since it’s change it’s worked perfectly from me. I order from them around once a month.
@RupeeClock Not over here (the Netherlands). The only option they offered over here so far has been credit card. No PayPal, not even for already released products.
As a web dev, sites can absolutely take months to work on- but you don't normally take it down for weeks while you work on it?
I suspect it's security concerns, given recent news from other companies.
Hopefully they are fixing their back-end, to allow for the ability to actually cancel orders without going through their chat, and actually being able to change payment details without cancelling and losing pre-order items which are out of stock.
Uk site was down for maintenance between 27th to the 29th of June if I remember, that said it never actually went down unless it was done quickly during the night

@Fizza same
Was really hoping they'd have the Bayonetta 3 fancy edition there for preorder
I had to get the MH Malzeno Amiibo off the UK Nintendo store and got caught out with some nasty customs charges.
Would rather avoid those in future.
@MysticX I guess that they have found severe IT security issues with this version of the shop, so they replace it with the UK version, which takes some time.
I do hope they will finally bring the UK shop to the EU as well.
@seaboyluca the special edition of xenoblade 3 is only available for purchase in mynintendo store.
@nathatruc
Yes, that's the one exception and the first time that happened in my country. All other special editions have been available in regular video game stores.
Is it just me or are the three gears on the image on the MyNintendo website annoyingly placed?
With the gears being placed like that they will never rotate in sync. No wonder the website is down.
I've regularly received timeouts for the UK store over the past few weeks. Usually a refresh or two worked.
I've worked as or with web developers for nearly 15 years, and I haven't heard of a website being down for weeks before! The only thing I can think that would cause such drastic action is a security issue, but weeks still sounds ridiculous for a company of Nintendo's scale. I'm guessing the "will take a few weeks" message might be an error or they're over-estimating by a few weeks...
Sounds like there's room for a lot of improvement with the EU site. Maybe it's a big overhaul?
There's never a good time for these things.
What kind of ancient tech are they using for it to take weeks
Weeks? I wonder if it's been hacked.
This is old news. Its already giving this message for almost 2 weeks. Soon it will be online again.
@SigourneyBeaver NoE shut it down after the US store had problems with the Xenoblade 3 preorder. Nintendo probably decided to use the resources for their American shop.
I missed the US special edition due to work. Does anyone know if I'm able to order from the NoE website and have it delivered to the US?
Direct confirmed.
Ahhh so the news tip form did actually work. Thanks for sharing this, Ollie! It’s clear Nintendo is doing some extensive maintenance on their EU web stores. I hope it won’t impact XC3 SE pre-orders.
@Papery0shi they never opened the preorder but if someday they open the preorder try it 👍
@SigourneyBeaver That's what I was thinking. No PLANNED maintenance takes weeks.
They're probably busy stacking up the store with 5 or so N64 controllers.
Hopefully the update involves re-adding quality customer service, and the ability to cancel orders easily or even to change the address on pre-orders. It’s embarrassing that you can’t even do that. The site used to be so good but has gone to the dogs since the rename to MyNintendo.
@Sinton after waging a one-man social media campaign to get a restock on the N64 controllers, I’m so glad I got some yesterday, or I’d have seriously hit the roof. They gave no notice for them, either.
@olrodlegacy I'm still mad that they screwed up my order for controllers when they original launched. Got shipping notice, then a few hours later, a message that they had received my returned controllers and would refund the money within a few days.
In eu nobody can preorder the splatoon 3 edition oled switch or pro controller. Insane timing for an insane amount of downtime. Like it's 1990!
@okeribok Different retailers are selling it besides Nintendo. Same counts for the Bayonetta CE
Edit:
@okeribok Kijk op Nedgame, Bol.com, allyourgames en gamemania gewoon te koop. Zag dat je Nederlands was
Good luck EU friends. Xenoblade 3 SE was a horror show over this side of the Pond.
@marandahir Thanks mate, maybe we don't get the change at all to preorder with the way its going lmao
Does Nintendo have a single person for each region doing maintenance?
@Freakservo that’s why I qualified that statement as a ‘stupidly naive opinion’
@RupeeClock The official Nintendo UK store USED to take PayPal for preorders (when it was ran by The Hut Group)
No idea who runs it now, but yeah it’s pretty frustrating. I’ve personally gone back to just using ShopTo or The Game Collection.
The internet is Kryptonite for Nintendo. They just can't do it.
"a few weeks" - for just one game? wow...they must really got it badly over in those countries, imagine it being for any other game that's releasing - will take a whole month at that point x.x" lol. seriously just amazed by how long it takes but then again i shouldn't be stunned by it when the matter of how things are realistically going in those countries i can understand why, but still..
@Mattock1987 What, like reviews?
A few weeks? Is the website run by amateurs or what? Imagine amazon going down for a few weeks for maintenance.
I think it is more likely to be related to legal trouble. They probably have to stop sales until they fix something before they can restart sales in the EU
@olrodlegacy it wasn't just a rename, the partnership Nintendo had with The Hut Group ended and Nintendo decided that instead of renewing the arrangement they'd give retail logistics a crack. It did not go well, as you can see from the numerous comments in this thread.
Thankfully they've fixed the issues preventing me from ordering from the store and I've had a few successful orders to through now, but it's obviously not all fixed as you can see from the aforementioned comment thread!
@Mushvision Nintendo run the store, they wanted a bigger slice of the pie and they thought their tiny little website shipping club Nintendo merch was adequate... how wrong they were.
The store has been down in Brazil too. I hope it gets better when it is back lol.
@Agent_P well, yes.
