Rocket league is a game that when I first played I was incredibly luke warm about...then I decided to give it more of a shot and play for a few hours...and now It’s my most played game even topping BOTW
It doesn’t matter if it’s a new game or not (for the record I believe it is) What matters is: #1 It’s Smash #2 It controls like a dream #3 The movesets remain true to the series
That’s the long way of saying this franchise is the surest dang thing in all of videogames.
Although I won’t be partaking, I am totally down with the spirit of this thing. I’m all for more encouraging coop play, interaction and growing one’s imagination through gaming vs. ultra-violence (the realistic looking kind), increased solitude (in a world where drones are delivering to our doors) and micro-transactions.
I can’t believe I’m about to say this but even as a retro enthusiast I think I may have reached overload, and now find myself in the “give me something new, give me something novel” club.
@Megal0maniac I have a mixed relationship with twin stick shooters. And so the price point of Isaac has always prevented me from trying it. Also I am WAY better at platformers so I think that does bias me some 😄. But I gotta admit reading the comments here I’m still intrigued!
For whatever reason back in the day when I tried the Cave Story demo on Wii it didn’t grab me. Good thing I gave it another chance when it released for Switch because it’s brilliant. Just don’t expect more than roughly 10-15 hours of gameplay unless you go for the true ending.
Also The End is Nigh is by far and away the most fun I have ever had with one of those “tough as nails” games. Just remember to go with the flow and let the muscle memory feedback do its thing. Oh, and remember to laugh while you watch your little blob character die over and over again as you learn. My favorite Nicalis title ever : ).
@Shiryu Do you mean that Steredenn’s crashing issue is getting fixed?! If so I am leaping back in with both feet because as of this moment it’s still my GOTY. Thanks for providing this info and for your spot on review above!
@Nincompoop You’re GIF reminds me of Aeon Flux. That show didn’t shy away from introducing pertinent, novel ideas either.
Violence masks hurt in a way where it’s visceral like a black bar attempting to cover up something that is at worst innocuous. As you said “sex creates life”. That act when consensual is the opposite of violence, and is literally dressed down, with no black bar to be found.
@Fake-E-Lee Agreed. The form factor and overall library (with a brilliant introduction on launch to state the obvious, oh what with BOTW and its over 100% attach rate 😋) delivered on the bold promise of a truly fresh/revitalized experience from the jump.
That seriously can’t be understated. After the Wii U Ninty had one second chance to make a new first impression and they knocked it out of the frickin’ park.
For me the Switch is an amazing blend of retro, indie, and first party. And literally every game seems to be more fun when played on it, which is quite the ringing endorsement.
Is it too early to say the Switch is the best system for Shmups ever? I mean, the Wii (with some great VC) and Xbox 360 absolutely delivered, but holy smokes it’s only been a year and look at the catalog already!
I’m in the minority in that Just Shapes and Beats as well as Bad North look very good (and I was expecting zero titles to peak my interest). Once HLD was confirmed after the direct, which immediately is the heavy hitter here, proves that Nintendo continues its double whammy of porting some of the best indies around while also producing new content.
So there will be a lot of original content it seems regardless. I say that’s a win! Call me a traditionalist but I would love a new 2d platform game...or they could just port Sparkster over to Switch 😋
Free insert any dinomination here is always better than nothing. With that said, I think more than anything it’s the way this reward system penalizes the loyalty of early adopters that’s got people feeling slighted.
Gonner. What a gem that game is. Also The End is Nigh (if difficult twitch platforming is your thing) is a 10/10 for me and other than BOTW my favorite game of 2017.
May end up using those gold coins on this one come March (or Samauri Aces). Oh wait, or I could wait for Owl Boy...when is Super Meat Boy Forever coming out again? Oh my &$&/ isn’t Hollow Knight coming out Q1... **wonders off to make pancakes**
1 in being surprised by the score. This game is easily a 9/10 for me. I have had such a great time high score chasing and the balance found in gameplay and strategy is splendid.

F-Zero...please come back. With that said the trailer didn’t look bad per say, it just didn’t feel inspired.

Any art is subjective, but for me with some of these nostalgia laden titles, successful imitation does not = inspiration.

Y’all may think I’m crazy, but this is my most anticipated Switch title of 2018 (unless they unveil a new F-Zero at E3 😋)
Re: Nintendo Download: 15th February (North America)
Samurai Aces most definitely. Retro Shmups are the tater tots of gaming - one can never have enough.
