Although I won’t be partaking, I am totally down with the spirit of this thing. I’m all for more encouraging coop play, interaction and growing one’s imagination through gaming vs. ultra-violence (the realistic looking kind), increased solitude (in a world where drones are delivering to our doors) and micro-transactions.

For whatever reason back in the day when I tried the Cave Story demo on Wii it didn’t grab me. Good thing I gave it another chance when it released for Switch because it’s brilliant. Just don’t expect more than roughly 10-15 hours of gameplay unless you go for the true ending.

Also The End is Nigh is by far and away the most fun I have ever had with one of those “tough as nails” games. Just remember to go with the flow and let the muscle memory feedback do its thing. Oh, and remember to laugh while you watch your little blob character die over and over again as you learn. My favorite Nicalis title ever : ).

@Shiryu Do you mean that Steredenn’s crashing issue is getting fixed?! If so I am leaping back in with both feet because as of this moment it’s still my GOTY. Thanks for providing this info and for your spot on review above!

@Nincompoop You’re GIF reminds me of Aeon Flux. That show didn’t shy away from introducing pertinent, novel ideas either.

Violence masks hurt in a way where it’s visceral like a black bar attempting to cover up something that is at worst innocuous. As you said “sex creates life”. That act when consensual is the opposite of violence, and is literally dressed down, with no black bar to be found.

@Fake-E-Lee Agreed. The form factor and overall library (with a brilliant introduction on launch to state the obvious, oh what with BOTW and its over 100% attach rate 😋) delivered on the bold promise of a truly fresh/revitalized experience from the jump.

That seriously can’t be understated. After the Wii U Ninty had one second chance to make a new first impression and they knocked it out of the frickin’ park.

For me the Switch is an amazing blend of retro, indie, and first party. And literally every game seems to be more fun when played on it, which is quite the ringing endorsement.

Re: Reaction: What Did You Think Of The Nindies Spring Showcase 2018?

I’m in the minority in that Just Shapes and Beats as well as Bad North look very good (and I was expecting zero titles to peak my interest). Once HLD was confirmed after the direct, which immediately is the heavy hitter here, proves that Nintendo continues its double whammy of porting some of the best indies around while also producing new content.
