Nicalis has been a company that’s given the Switch plenty of solid support, bringing the likes of quality games like Cave Story+, The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+, and The End is Nigh to Nintendo’s platform. Now, some of these games can seem a little on the pricey side—like the 14-year-old Cave Story going for $29.99—so the company has opted to run a small sale on the North American eShop.
All the below games will be discounted until 16th April, so you have a bit of time before the prices go back up. Here’s what’s on sale:
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ – $31.99 (was $39.99)
Cave Story+ – $23.99 (was $29.99)
Ittle Dew 2+ – $23.99 (was $29.99)
Tiny Barbarian DX – $23.99 (was $29.99)
The End is Nigh – $11.99 (was $14.99)
VVVVVV – $7.99 (was $9.99)
Knight Terrors – $2.00 (was $2.99)
Will you be picking anything up? Have you played any of these yet? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Radiant Historia on 3DS is 20% off too
I am tempted by VVVVVV, but beyond that, nothing else. $24 for Cave Story+ when my 3DS eShop version is still top-notch doesn’t really persuade me.
Anyone have anything good to say about Knight Terrors?
@OnBeingHuman Its surprisingly fun for a runner. Solid little game. Great aesthetics, can be brutal in a good way.
I like Cave Story as the next door neighbor, but I can't put more than $15 on the Switch version.
Same sale on the UK store, and I guess the rest of the European stores. Still all overpriced so nothing for me.
The Switch version of Cave Story is by far the best version I've played, well worth the extra cost. I'd still pick up a physical copy instead though, same with Isaac. VVVVVV is well worth the purchase for anyone who hasn't tried it though seeing as it's digital only anyway. All great games.
Never heard of an eShop title "Issac" but sounds intriguing!!
Meh, nothing really of interest to me. I have passed on Cave Story before and will continue to. Nice of them to offer the discount though.
@OnBeingHuman Good addicting retro style game simple gameplay, but more of a mobile game. Certainly worth $2.00.
@OnBeingHuman
I enjoy it. It’s a no brainer for the price, with varied play (for a runner), cool graphics and fairly addictive gameplay.
Still don't see why EU players are forced to pay Nicalis's inflated prices when we don't get the physical versions. I'd like Cave Story, but I feel it needs to be 50% off before it's priced competitively with its eShop rivals, such as Shantae, Axiom Verge, etc.
Knight Terrors is the only one I DON'T have...all physical save VVVVVV of course. Guess for $2 I can complete the set.
Cave Story is a great piece of history, kickstarting the indie boom alongside Braid... But it is super frustrating to play at times. I abandoned trying to get the true ending and I wouldn't want to play it again on Switch.
But double dipping on VVVVVV? Hmmm...
I want Cave Story and Binding of Isaac but it feels like they're still overpriced. Think I'll just work on my backlog instead.
Not best sale in world :/
I want a UK PAL physical version of Cave Story. Don’t want the US one.
@citizenerased
Idk about Cave Story, but behind its cheap aesthetics Isaac is a deep game with an amazing amount of content. Got it day 1 for about 40$ and never regretted a penny of it !
Still to expensive for my taste. I'd love to once more double-dip on Isaac and maybe even Cave Story, but not at the combined price point of a new $60 game. That's just not happening.
Old games! Old games! Old games!
@Judgedean
Whats's better about the PAL version?
@citizenerased
I would say that Isaac is great value for money. I'm on 355 hours myself, and am nowhere near done with it. It is crammed full of content, and is just an utterly exceptional game, in my opinion. It has kept me away from all other games, BOTW and Odyssey included. Your mileage may vary, of course, depending on just how much it grabs you, but I have seen accounts from many players out there who have also put hundreds of hours into it.
I was disappointed with my cave story purchase.
Cave Story is essential, but I own it already for the Wii. I don't think the 'upgrade' would be necessarily worth it (for me). Isaac is one of the few physical games I own for the Switch since I'm trying to go all digital barring half a dozen games I own. The rest look ok but feel the eShop offers better for roughly the same pricing.
For whatever reason back in the day when I tried the Cave Story demo on Wii it didn’t grab me. Good thing I gave it another chance when it released for Switch because it’s brilliant. Just don’t expect more than roughly 10-15 hours of gameplay unless you go for the true ending.
Also The End is Nigh is by far and away the most fun I have ever had with one of those “tough as nails” games. Just remember to go with the flow and let the muscle memory feedback do its thing. Oh, and remember to laugh while you watch your little blob character die over and over again as you learn. My favorite Nicalis title ever : ).
Eh, kind of a small sale. Not gonna get too excited over this one.
Nicalis. RedOut. Where?
Still too pricey.
@needmorecowbell I've got the same sentiment, I love End is Nigh's gameplay! Binding of Isaac is my 2nd favourite from Nicalis in this sale, so good that I'm going to trade in my physical copies of both in order to enjoy my digital copies for the hugely enjoying pick up 'nd play factor
@BenAV Nice try Nicalis.
@JJ286 No way anyone would be willing to pay a decent price for quality titles so I must be the publishers in disguise, you're right.
That's a very small discount, hmm...
Not enough discount I'd consider redipping on cave story+ only if it was 10 bucks or less since I've got it on 3DS, but haven't played it in awhile though I think if it were the 3D version of cave story from 3DS it would be more interesting since I just played the normal eshop one.
I bought Cave Story for $12 on Wii. Why is it $30 on Switch???
Anyway, the only Nicalis game I can see myself re-buying is 1001 Spikes. That's one of my all-time favorite platformers.
@ALinkttPresent thanks!
@Hikingguy Uh, I get all that. All I came here for was to express how I feel about the games and their worth, nothing more. I couldn't care less about what other people are willing to pay as it makes no difference to me. But thanks for the wall of text.
Binding of Isaac afterbirth + is a beast! 120 hours and almost 1/3 completed I think. Do yourself a favor and give it a try.
Probably going to pick up Ittle Dew 2+. Might grab The End is Nigh.
@Megal0maniac I have a mixed relationship with twin stick shooters. And so the price point of Isaac has always prevented me from trying it. Also I am WAY better at platformers so I think that does bias me some 😄. But I gotta admit reading the comments here I’m still intrigued!
Will get isaac and knight terrors
$23.99 is still far too much for cave story + on switch, especially when the pc release is only $15 at full price
@ALinkttPresent Oh wow thanks!
...is Redout still coming?
@BenAV dude its a joke.
@Paperboy Nothing - just want all my physical collection to be the same region
I'm tempted by Cave Story since I've never played any other version, and The End is Nigh is looking particularly tempting for the price.
@OnBeingHuman
Knight Terrors is a rather addictive runner. It's no revolution, but if you like the artstyle the few hours you'll spend on it are well worth two bucks !
