Remember Pocket Rumble? A one-on-one fighter which wouldn't look out of place on the Neo Geo Pocket Color, it was supposed to launch last year but was delayed, and has - unfortunately - been somewhat forgotten in the gold rush of indies titles that have come to Switch since then.
Thankfully, it's about to get another chance to shine at the upcoming EGX Rezzed event in the UK. Pocket Rumble will be shown alongside Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, West of Loathing, Lumines Remastered, Bad North, and Moonlighter. All of these will be playable.
EGX Rezzed takes place between April 13th and April 15th at the Tobacco Dock, London.

Good to see that. However, with Smash coming up, I worry this game won’t be given the chance it needs. It may be a case of “Too little too late”, unfortunately.

Anyway, this game exists. Honestly it missed its mark but hey, it'll be PLAYABLE!
That's a good sign...makes you wonder what took so long.
I was just wondering about this!
Hope it is shaping up well after all
It's going to be tough to reach people when they're opposite the Street Fighter collection and more "friendly priced" Neo Geo releases such as Garou.
Welcome back Pocket Rumble.
It's interesting how this, SNK Heroines and Blade Strangers are all going for a similar gameplay experience, a 2d fighter without tedious memorization and frustrating execution demands.
I wonder what will turn out to be the best streamlined 2d fighter.
Thought this had gone the way of the dinosaur. Wonder what has held it up?
That's great news. I was starting to worry it disappeared for good.
Been waiting forever for this I love the style of the graphics and music very authentic to the Neo Geo pocket thought it had quietly disappeared glad to see it’s still coming out
Wow. It lives!
Somehow, it looked like 8-bit of King of Fighter + Dark Stalker.
Wait, Use of Tobacco ?!
I just want them to release this already...
Looking good.
@Shepdawg1 not just Smash, this was due out around the time of USFII so there wasn’t a lot of great fighters, but now there’s so many amazing Neo Geo fighters, a SF collection containing 12 games and more out for the Switch that I think it’s missed its chance at mega high sales.
@Anti-Matter It's probably like a character pulling a cigarette or a pipe as a victory or taunt pose.
@EmirParkreiner There's also Fantasy Strike that was shown during the last Nindies showcase. I don't know much about it, but I've heard it's supposed to be a simplified fighter as well.
@SmaggTheSmug The outrage! Video games should have cute, tobacco free characters! Even if they are about to beat each other to death, which is totally acceptable.
They must be having problems, this was in the very first Nintendo Direct about indie developers. It's generally a red flag to me so I will be keeping an eye on reviews when it finally does come.
Good to know. I liked the look of it when it was first announced. I’ll keep an eye on it.
@SmaggTheSmug nah the tobacco dock is an old listed building in london where they used to store the tobacco coming in. They use it for other things now.
Yay! I tweeted at Chucklefish about this game. I guess they’re the publisher...? Glad to see it’s still coming. I just think they had a lot in the works. Bringing Stardew Valley and War Groove. They ambitiously want to bring their whole library over to the Switch, so I can’t complain too much.
@Mr_Pepperami "Use of Tobacco" is mentioned in the rating at the beginning of the video. I thought Anti-Matter was confused by the Tobacco Dock as well at first, but I double checked the vid.
@SmaggTheSmug hah yeah you’re right . That is weird. Gotta be the end boss or something as in games only evil people smoke or have stubble these days😂
This looks surprisingly good. Still got my NGPC in the loft. Might dig it out and play King of Fighters R-2...
I was really excited when this got announced ageeeeees ago, but that hype has pretty much vanished now. The developer/publisher must also be hitting themselves for being so late to the party when they could've launched back during that golden launch period where everything released on the Switch eShop raked in bucketloads of cash.
Oh well, here's to hoping the game still turns out okay for players and creators alike.
I did forget this game, but glad it’s still around. I have an arcade stick for the Switch too.
Omg, I have not forgotten about you, Pocket Rumble, please come out on Switch.....ever
Wow! I never thought we'd see this game again. I'll still buy it as it looks good. I just hope it releases before 2019.
Game looks so good.
Chucklefish is legit. Their portfolio of developed and published games is rockin'
Pocket Rumble and Morphies Law
I don't think any of us should expect to hear anything concrete from these games until Nintendo reveals its Online subscription plan.
These games and their focus on online play probably need what Nintendo is cooking to operate properly.
At this point, does anyone care? It would have benefitted them to come out last year. The Switch currently has Ultra Street Fighter II, ARMS, Brawlout, and Pokken Tournament DX, and soon to have the Street Fighter Collection and Super Smash Bros.
Plenty of Neo Geo games that all do the same thing. Yes, I remember this game, but what about shakedown Hawaii from the same Nindies broadcast? I was waaay more interested in that one.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz what the hell are they doing with this port???
@Syntaxkita While I do love rock paper scissors, that doesn't sound very promising =D I heard pretty good things about it elsewhere. When/where did you play it? I heard it was a pretty good fighter for casuals/people who don't play fighters. I used to play fighters a lot, and I still enjoy them, I just lack the time or patience to get into newer fighters, for the most part, so something casual sounds nice.
EDIT: Just saw it is out on Steam early access. Didn't realize that. I'll have to read up on it a bit.
