April O'Neil Is Playable In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Now Out 2022

April is cool, but I'm really hoping splinter is a playable character. Bummer about the 2022 release date though 😕

Disappointing to have the release date change, but I have enough to play for now. Hope when it releases it is excellent.

They make great games but their release date estimates can be out by years.

Not a huge fan of brawlers, but between the gorgeous pixel art and my childhood love for the property, I'm reasonably excited for this.

You definitely should read the comics. She is trained in them. So far it's just in reference but I've yet to read one focusing on her training (but I'm only in vol 4, and reading through all 13 big volumes, over 100 issues) They did cut her hair recently but I don't remember it sticking around. She's clearly with Casey and her character is badass throughout.

When it was announced that there was a new playable character, my mind immediately thought to Usagi Yojimbo. He's fought alongside the turtles in the past so it would make sense that he'd fit in the game.

Happy for the update, although it's not the news I wanted to hear. 2022 was already a loaded year for my Switch (BOTW2 and Splatoon 3), but I'll still download this when it comes.

I hadn't thought about the game featuring other fighters besides the Turtles. That opens up all kinds of possibilities - Casey Jones, Splinter, Leatherhead, Slash (and the other Mutanimals)...this game could have a large playable roster. Even more excited about it now.

More variety in playable characters will definitely increase my interest in this game. They should release some new ones every few months. Get Sakurai on it. Let's have Kirby and Sephiroth.

2022 is good for me. Currently playing TMNT Out of the Shadows. Then I'll go through Mutants in Manhattan. Might also give the NES version a go on my Wii U too 😂

April being playable fits the TMNT Adventures canon well since in the comics April was also receiving ninja training from Splinter at one point.

There's so many great TMNT characters so I hope there's more playable characters to come!

Might be wrong but I remember Streets of Rage 4 taking a long time between announcement and release. I hope it sticks to the 2022 window but I wouldn't be shocked if it slips into 2023. Looking forward to the game so it's a big letdown it still doesn't seem close.

Many TMNT continuities have April training to be a kunoichi (Female ninja) and helping the Turtles, stopping to be a damsel in distress, and the 2012 cartoon even has April with powers because she is half-alien, but I don't remember that happening in the classic 1987 continuity, did that happen in any episode?

Interesting development. Though I'm not particularly interested in playing as April, I like how they integrated her into the game, based on the description and footage. I saw at one point in the video she does a cooperative special move with Leonardo, so that's definitely a nice touch. I still like what I see so far. I like the visuals so far. They lean more into the cartoony side of things, but it still works from my perspective. Too bad about the delay.

In case the developers check comments, and I've seen that some do, I'll say what I always say on interesting stuff to me. I hope the screen-shake effect can be turned off or heavily limited. It's not constant in the video, like some games, but I worry it can be bad with four or more players. The effect is not only jarring for me, it's also quite exhausting, and may be the difference between purchasing the game or not. I know there are others out there who have this same issue.

@Lord There is a Wind Jammers 2 beta going on with PLaystation. It looks like they called dibs on the marketing for that game lol.

Cool, but why does this Geoff Keighley get so much attention? I never find his announcements that interesting and he seems more focused on bad licensed games over good products.

@Wavey84 Remember there are different versions of April O'Neil from different TMNT universes, not all of them are damsel in distress just like not all versions of Shredder are Oroku Saki. This version of April may look like the 90s version but she may had a different personality and certain skills unlike the 90s one. The one in Genesis Tournament Fighters was also not a damsel in distress.

So they're playing that game. Splinter, Casey Jones, Miyamoto Usagi, Attila, Genghis, Napoleon, and Rasputin all stand a chance. This gets better and better.

April's cool and all but I can't recall her having any fighting abilities, if she's a playable characters I hope there's others such as Splinter or Casey Jones

This is one of my most anticipated games to come but I’m ok with this delay if it means we will get a full game at launch. April being in is a nice start. I’d like to see at least 3 more characters if I want to play a game with a team of non turtles. Casey and splinter are logical picks after that it’s up in the air. Usagi would be my pick tho.

Going back to the original reveal trailer, they briefly show April taking on a couple of Foot Soldiers during the animated segment. Looks like they were dropping hints since day one. And if that's anything to go by, it looks like Splinter will likely follow as a playable character as the animated segment shows him taking out a mouser. It doesn't necessarily mean there will be no others beyond it. April and Splinter are principle support characters in the series, whereas other allies are more like guest stars, so I suppose Casey Jones fans still have hope, but I expect Splinter to be next, whenever that is.

It's funny I've heard the opening to the 1990s cartoon covered by at least twenty bands in the last twenty years; all garage bands, somehow this offical cover is the worst cover I have ever heard, it makes my ears bleed, if you want to check out a good cover go check out the cars can be blue cover, I think they may have been the first band to cover the song , they did it way back in 1999, if memory serves me.

Dammit I knew this game was gonna get pushed, just based on the fact that they still just kept saying “out 2021” but 2021 is 3/4 over. Oh well, something to look forward to.

Jumpsuit April Is class. I still have my original April, Shredder and foot Soldier figures from the 80’s cartoon. So I’m even more excited about this being able to play April. Scrolling fighters are my fav genre and after Streets of Rage I have high hopes

Giggled at the mike drop as the end of one of her combos that kind of detail is what I love.
But another game I looked forward to this year moved to next, guess all I have no is Metroid dread.

April looks cute and fun to use, and those team attacks look like they’ll add to the mayhem. Like many here I hope to see Splinter-sensei and Casey Jones playable, too.

@Jireland92 Not necessarily. Casey Jones was actually only a minor reoccurring character who only showed up in a few episodes of the original cartoon this is based on. He was also poorly portrayed as an over-the-top black-and-white justice meathead who never had any romantic interactions with April. They could still bring him in given how popular he is in other incarnations of the franchise, but it's no guarantee.

@victordamazio Well, there was one episode where she helped Raphael catch a small gang of minor villains with a few wacky martial arts moves she picked up from observation, but of course it was never brought up again.

@BulbasaurusRex Peter Laird, one of the co-creators, forbid Venus de Milo from ever appearing again on the franchise since he hated her and the TV series.

But he sold the franchise to Nickelodeon, so that rule no longer applies, Venus de Milo is still missing however.

So dope! I'm amped for a new TMNT Game. Hoping the delay means they're adding more content... i.e. variety in level design, some vehicular/racing stages (Turtle Van w/ Weapons, Surfing, Gliding), maybe some vertical/platforming to mix things up etc.

Also wishing for lots of cosmetics, costumes to unlock like skins, palette swaps and accessories along with a steady diet of new unique characters to the lineup (Venus, Slash, Spike, Casey Jones, Splinter/Hamato Yoshi, Dimension X Teens etc.) + additional bosses, sub-bosses and transformations, maybe an achievement system too.

Hopefully this does well and inspires a resurgence & renaissance of cool, fun, new licensed arcade brawlers updated and coming to Switch with modern features (X-Men, Simpsons, Bucky O'Hare, Battletoads)... basically call Konami and others lol!

Glad there are more characters! Can we please get Casey Jones, Splinter, Metal Head, etc!

As a gamer of a "certain age" I am greatly looking forward to this. Shame its not til next year though..
