It's taken a year, but some dedicated Pokémon GO fans have just discovered a new tactic when it comes to capturing powerful 'Raid' monsters.
The discovery was made by Pokémon fansite The Silph Road, which has just published its 48th community study – a venture dedicated to finding out if there was a certain period during Raid encounters where Raid bosses became easier to catch.
The Silph Road's study has logged over 6,500 throws, with researchers throwing Premier Balls at bosses while making note of everything that could possibly have an impact on the catch multiplier, such as Berries and other PokéBalls. It was found that players stood a better chance of capturing a Raid boss around the ninth or tenth PokéBall throw.
The study has concluded that a secret 'dynamic catch bonus multiplier' is baked into each and every Raid battle that takes place in the game. Essentially, it means that the longer the battle goes on for, the easier the Raid monster is to capture.
Does your personal experience with the game back up these findings? Let us know with a comment below.

ok, so, delay the fight as much as possible and throw the best berries at the ninth attempt
That's interesting, so there's a grace mechanic for those trying their best to catch a legendary Pokémon at a raid.
For those unfamiliar, a majority of legendary and mythical Pokémon in Go Raids have a base 2% catch rate. Sometimes 3% or 6% depending on circumstances or history.
There are multiple things that multiplicatively boost the catch rate when done together, including:
Under ideal circumstances, you can boost that 2% success rate to over 20% if you land excellent curve balls, whilst using golden razz berries and having a platinum type badge.
So, the idea that over time, that 20% chance actually increases further is cool, but it does mean that your earlier attempts run the risk of expending more berries.

@RupeeClock But you only have access to the Premier Ball when trying to catch Raid bosses, right?
This is good to know, except the article leads you to believe you could just let the game sit idle for a while and your chances will increase, while the source sounds like they're saying the more unsuccessful throws you have, the greater the chances become for the next throw.
@mjharper
I need to read it in more detail still, because I'm not clear on whether the increased odds are based on the number of unsuccessful attempts, or the time elapsed in the battle or the capture encounter.
But yeah, raid bosses you only get to use a fixed number of premier balls based on your raid performance, so the capture bonus that great or ultra balls would afford you isn't available here.
If you could use ultra balls in raid battles, you could have a 40% success rate for catching legendaries!
Sliph Road making assumptions again (eyes roll)
Lol Nintendolife. It is was a pretty light hearted post. It wasn't 'trolling' by any stretch. Maybe lighten up a bit.
Makes some sense in a nefarious sort of way, since catching these bosses is fundamentally a gussied-up gacha system, and gachas tend to heavily revolve around 10-pulls.
Yeah, from my experience that tracks. Most of legendary raid bosses I only capture around the last or penultimate ball. Interesting to have confirmation that RNGesus is real in this case.
@dux It is interesting...I myself have caught a few legendaries on a 'miracle' last ball
