Remember earlier this month where an extremely talented inventor with perhaps a little too much time on his hands created a coat with a Wii U hooked up inside of it? Well, he's back and he's having another go and building a working Nintendo Switch XL.
YouTuber My Mate VINCE is the channel in question, and this new creation might be his best yet. He's used the controller and dock shell of a Linx Vision (originally designed to support Windows 10-based tablets) along with a 10.1-inch, 1080p monitor and a homemade dock for the Switch built into the back. Check out the finished product below. It's pretty rad.
What do you make of Vince's new build? And what do you think a real Switch XL would actually look, should Nintendo ever decide to follow a similar design path to 3DS? Share your thoughts below...

From the maid that made
Looks great. Massive credit to Vince
That is freaking awesome!
"From the made that made" is the impressive feat in this article, not the XL.
That is awesome.
I wonder how much it weighs though.
Is that legal ?
This editor always has a crapton of spelling errors in his articles.
I would question how much comfort he is sacrificing for something that's not a great deal bigger, but each to their own.
@Anti-Matter He's not modified the actual Switch unit. He's basically created his own dock. It doesn't affect how the Switch uses its software or connects to the Nintendo online network so no, everything he's done is fine. However, if he broke his Switch, Nintendo are probably within their rights to tell him he can pay for a new one.
Btw, Switch XL will be Too big for me to be carried.
Like i carried mini laptop on the go.
@Anti-Matter it’s legal.
It’s more legal than hooking it up to a Samsung tv or Sony tv
Like the coat thing, pretty unnecessary.🤨
Bet he invalidated his warranty though.
Heavy
@Yasume He's tried to correct it now and messed it up further...
"From the man made that brought you a playable coat"
It gets worse.
@jack_goetz @yasume
"From the made that made a playable coat"
So some previous hack developed AI, using this intelligence it decided to create a gaming coat to solve humankinds shortfalls. Once completed it had time on it's hands, recognising the declining level of eyesight in the general population it decided a larger screened Switch was the way forward, by increasing it's bulk it's secondary purpose of reducing muscle atrophy and osteoporosis was fulfilled.
The tag line is relevant see, you just need to know the background story, that's all.
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn 't stop to think if they should
A testament to his skill, but I find the Switch itself on the very limit of portability. Form factor also isn’t as good. Wonder how much it weighs, battery life and most importantly cost?
@MrGawain
why?
looks like it's just connected with a dock inside a larger screen.
and at least in the US, opening these things can't void the warranty. FTC ( i think) clarified that.
Cool project. Nice option to have around.
Overheating is likely to be a real problem as it is running in docked mode but pressed up against hot components in the monitor and, also, no motion control is a deal breaker for some.
Really great for some scenarios though.
@Bod2019 No, we understood what the tagline meant, the problem was the typo in the tagline.
@Jack_Goetz there wasn't a shred of seriousness in my post, just jesting around, just playing around with the connotations of the tagline myself.
Enjoy the comedy!
Looks like a great prototype. I imagine Nintendo has something similar laying around their offices for the inevitable 1080p upgrade. Hopefully they can get the tech layout cheap enough to release an upgrade next year or so.
@Bod2019 Ah! It all make sense now!
Nice, but does it brick?
It doesn't look comfortable to hold.
@ROBLOGNICK @Anti-Matter Of course it's legal!! Also, he's done nothing to void the warranty. On top of that, over the last few weeks I've been getting a lot of emails updating warranty policies for electronics that I own and it looks like a law got passed where it's now illegal to void someone's warranty for opening up their device and "breaking the seal".
I'm kind of confused how much of this the guy made and how much of it he bought and put his Switch in it.
Here's the Linx Vision w/ an 8" tablet in it.

I guess he did everything behind the monitor - battery and dock - and glued on the monitor. I feel like the Joycon should be where those controllers are though for the full Switch experience. Maybe if he built some brackets onto the sides of the monitor casing. The Joycon just slide on, shouldn't be that complicated to fabricate. Unles the Joycon connectors can't hold all of that weight, then they need cages as well.
Still a cool little bit of kit though. 3 hour battery life is fine, arms would probably fall off after that from holding the weight anyway.
@JaxonH You should buy this off the guy and keep it in your desk at work for lunch and breaks. Or your glove compartment for whenever.
Hope his homemade dock doesn't brick his Switch.
Hope Gamevice won't sue him after they loose the lawsuit against Nintendo. 😂
I think an official switch XL would come with XL sizes joy cons for people that just do want a bigger controller for those
Hope that doesn't overheat.
That's almost as bad as that PSwitch
at least it would fix the resolution and sharpness issues with xenoblade 2
For the person who needs to have the biggest and heaviest "portable" around. I am fine with the standard Switch.
....and then it bricks.
This looks hideous in my opinion but to each their own.
Yes! If there's one complaint I have about the Switch, it's that it's not difficult enough to stuff into a pocket. I won't be happy until it requires a back pack to carry around.
@Anti-Matter That's basically a monitor with controllers, what is breaking the law? Even hacking your switch isn't illegal, as long as you don't abuse it. Ofc, nintendo will ban you (now) for the hacked switch but i really want to see nintendo bann someone for playing with a diy rig like the one shown here, would pretty fast turn in to a disaster for nintendo.
