Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

kevinm360

Probably an unpopular opinion but I'll say it anyway 😂

Pokemon has never been that good. Whether it's graphically, story, world-building, game mechanics. It has always been done better elsewhere. Pokemon just got lucky and went the 90s equivalent of viral.

But like going viral, it was also just a fad of its time, and the people who were caught up on the fad have stuck with it for nostalgia. In my personal experience, Pokemon has been one of those things, where you had to play it from a young age as the modern games are so complex that there's a high barrier for entry.

Pokemon has long peaked, and is only still as successful today as it is because long-time players like us continue buying, supporting and playing the series that are familiar to us.

Re: Opinion: One Year On, Every Positive 'Pokémon TCG Pocket' Update Still Comes With A Catch

When they announced that Deluxe Pack ex would be time-limited, that was my jumping off point. Id collected all 1 diamond to 1 star cards via packs and trades for all of the previous sets and was happy to keep paying for Premium and keep collecting and trading; but with that set's cards being time limited (and mostly being desired for the parallel holos), the trades required to complete it after the 30th will start a lag behind for the new set.

I saw many complaints online about the game releasing sets too often, and making a 300+ card set thats mostly impossible to complete in the Card Dex is further evidence that they don't respect the time of completionists

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sales Almost 50/50 Across Switch And Switch 2

kevinm360

@Dr_Lugae I'm not so sure if the increase in Switch 2 install base would impact sales like that. I'm guessing most who wanted the game and doesn't have a Switch 2 would've been in the 49% of buyers who bought the OG Switch version (me too)

I think if the Switch 2 install base doubled or tripled, you'd see the percentage split change but not necessarily narrow the gap to Arceus.

Re: Mini Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A (Switch) - Mostly Stable, Much Less Shiny

kevinm360

There's a lot of "Switch 1 should be left behind" and "Switch 1 held Z-A back" thoughts. Pokemon Legends Z-A was announced for Switch before the Switch 2 was even revealed. So I might be in a minority, but I'm glad it's on OG Switch as announced. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are other Switch games that got paid-for Switch 2 patches, and that's exactly the same situation Legends Z-A is in.

I'm also looking forward to getting Metroid Prime 4 without having to buy a Switch 2

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Tests Out Switch 2's Free Switch Game Upgrades

kevinm360

I normally wait a year or two into a new console before buying in to see what the failure rates and issues that arise as people play occurs.

However, I'm finding it difficult to hold off on the Switch 2 because of the backwards compatibility and improvements it makes to the performance of older games. While the price is a bit "oof", the only real thing holding it back for me is the battery life, so im going to watch carefully at what type of battery upgrades surface.

Re: Community: Which Switch 2 Games Are You Wishlisting?

kevinm360

I'm interested in the upgrades for Switch games/Switch 2 versions of Switch games, as well as the Gamecube additions to NSO

The only game I'm really wanting a Switch 2 for though is Donkey Kong Bananza. So it might be worth me waiting and keeping my current Switch backlog as the priority

Re: Poll: With No Switch 2 News Until April, Is A February Nintendo Direct On The Cards?

kevinm360

@Keman That's Sony though. The Wii and DS have been Nintendo's best selling consoles prior to the Switch, with the DS having still sold more units.

The Wii was supported until the year of the Wii U's release, and the DS only had Pokemon release after the 3DS launched.

Sony have historically always had a long tail for their home consoles, especially with the PS2 getting direct PSP ports due to the similar specs.

Don't expect first party Switch games to continue releasing past mid 2026.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Donkey Kong Country Returns HD?

kevinm360

This can either be looked at as an upscale from the 3DS version, or the Wii version with extra levels, so the markdown for price doesn't make sense when taking these into account. If you mark it down because you're paying for a game you already own twice already then you're not the intended audience for the game. Full price re-releases of old games are pretty common.
