Probably an unpopular opinion but I'll say it anyway 😂
Pokemon has never been that good. Whether it's graphically, story, world-building, game mechanics. It has always been done better elsewhere. Pokemon just got lucky and went the 90s equivalent of viral.
But like going viral, it was also just a fad of its time, and the people who were caught up on the fad have stuck with it for nostalgia. In my personal experience, Pokemon has been one of those things, where you had to play it from a young age as the modern games are so complex that there's a high barrier for entry.
Pokemon has long peaked, and is only still as successful today as it is because long-time players like us continue buying, supporting and playing the series that are familiar to us.
When they announced that Deluxe Pack ex would be time-limited, that was my jumping off point. Id collected all 1 diamond to 1 star cards via packs and trades for all of the previous sets and was happy to keep paying for Premium and keep collecting and trading; but with that set's cards being time limited (and mostly being desired for the parallel holos), the trades required to complete it after the 30th will start a lag behind for the new set.
I saw many complaints online about the game releasing sets too often, and making a 300+ card set thats mostly impossible to complete in the Card Dex is further evidence that they don't respect the time of completionists
@Dr_Lugae I'm not so sure if the increase in Switch 2 install base would impact sales like that. I'm guessing most who wanted the game and doesn't have a Switch 2 would've been in the 49% of buyers who bought the OG Switch version (me too)
I think if the Switch 2 install base doubled or tripled, you'd see the percentage split change but not necessarily narrow the gap to Arceus.
There's a lot of "Switch 1 should be left behind" and "Switch 1 held Z-A back" thoughts. Pokemon Legends Z-A was announced for Switch before the Switch 2 was even revealed. So I might be in a minority, but I'm glad it's on OG Switch as announced. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are other Switch games that got paid-for Switch 2 patches, and that's exactly the same situation Legends Z-A is in.
I'm also looking forward to getting Metroid Prime 4 without having to buy a Switch 2
I wonder what our timeline would have turned out like if Samus Returns was announced and released before Federation Force. Would Blast Ball be an eSport?
I normally wait a year or two into a new console before buying in to see what the failure rates and issues that arise as people play occurs.
However, I'm finding it difficult to hold off on the Switch 2 because of the backwards compatibility and improvements it makes to the performance of older games. While the price is a bit "oof", the only real thing holding it back for me is the battery life, so im going to watch carefully at what type of battery upgrades surface.
I'm interested in the upgrades for Switch games/Switch 2 versions of Switch games, as well as the Gamecube additions to NSO
The only game I'm really wanting a Switch 2 for though is Donkey Kong Bananza. So it might be worth me waiting and keeping my current Switch backlog as the priority
@HammerGalladeBro fortunately enough Pokemon Bank still works. You don't need a Gen 6 game either, as Poke Transporter (downloaded through Bank) can read gen 5 games inserted into the 3DS
@Sherlock- yeah of course. I was replying to a specific question, so leaving them out of my comment was definitely not a statement against their quality at all.
@Mirastrix if they let you pay to buy card packs then the game becomes pay-to-win and becomes unbalanced. They've done the right thing to keep the game fair (particularly the battles) between people who pay and people who play for free. Free players will be able to collect the same cards as paying players, it'll just take a bit longer.
@Mirastrix Starting your comment with "the money" definitely solidifies that you haven't played it. The two-packs-a-day are completely free and you can pay a monthly subscription for a premium pass that gives you a third pack. The extra purchasables are currency to speed up the timer(s).
@BanjoPickles that shows how much Japan value physical media. The Series X outsold all digital-only versions of consoles. (PS5 Pro being higher due to not having a disc SKU)
This can either be looked at as an upscale from the 3DS version, or the Wii version with extra levels, so the markdown for price doesn't make sense when taking these into account. If you mark it down because you're paying for a game you already own twice already then you're not the intended audience for the game. Full price re-releases of old games are pretty common.
The new gameplay trailer looks nothing remotely like the original cursed trailer, so while they can say the game doesn't use AI art, they haven't said the same about their CGI trailer
@Banjo- Sorry Banjo. I was only trying to use it as an example of a console that had a shanner of a launch but ended up not being doomed. Switch 2 doesn't need to be another Switch 1, Wii or DS to be a success.
@WiiWouldLikeToPlay 3DS is a bad example as the endpoint is more important than the start of the console lifecycle (e.g. PS3 outselling Xbox 360). Wii U is fair though as that was just a fail and couldn't really have been corrected, but Nintendo can make mistakes with Switch 2 at launch and still come out on top at the end.
@AG_Awesome to be fair, theyve already done the Battlefront games, KOTOR games, Pod Racer, Jedi Knight 2 and Jedi Academy, Dark Forces, Republic Commando.
What unavailable game are you really referring to with "of all the games to remaster"?
It was announced quite recently too, and then hasn't had much fanfare or build up for meaning to release this month, so this is probably the right call
@GravyThief I got mine last month by downloading an app called "HotStock". You choose which item to "follow" and get live notifications of when the item comes back in stock. As well as the SNES controllers, I also used it to get my Xbox Series X back in 2021.
@Rob3008 while the graphics are a bit outdated, you can play the Pokemon TCG Game Boy game on NSO, and it basically fills the same idea of battling and collecting cards by opening booster packs.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Sales Almost 50/50 Across Switch And Switch 2
@Anti-Matter Everybody 1-2 Switch has dropped to £12. At the low price, I'm also tempted to pick it up 😂 i have nobody to play it with though

@Munchlax it's really just Sports Direct using a "GAME" brand in their stores now. Any specialism is really gone.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Is Now The Second-Best Selling Game In The Series
It's the longest in a while there hasn't been a new pair of games, and the casuals just buy the latest when they want their Pokemon fix.

@DwaynesGames they had Nintendo Selects for the Wii U and 3DS despite those games being available for eshop download.

@AlexOlney ah, of course. 😂 my mistake
Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected
@Mirastrix agreed. Taking into account this placeholder and adding on our 20% VAT. We could be pushing towards £350

@NinChocolate Emio by EPD in August 2024, and Jamboree by NintendoCube in October 2024 were the most recent in-house games

Re: Switch's Falling Sales Aren't Entirely Down To Switch 2 Hype, Says Furukawa
Switch entering it's ninth year is a reminder that we still haven't gotten "Nintendo Switch: Seven Years In - Scott the Woz" yet.
Re: Poll: With No Switch 2 News Until April, Is A February Nintendo Direct On The Cards?
@Keman That's Sony though. The Wii and DS have been Nintendo's best selling consoles prior to the Switch, with the DS having still sold more units.
The Wii was supported until the year of the Wii U's release, and the DS only had Pokemon release after the 3DS launched.
Sony have historically always had a long tail for their home consoles, especially with the PS2 getting direct PSP ports due to the similar specs.
Don't expect first party Switch games to continue releasing past mid 2026.

@Serpenterror sorry, I thought I said "other console platforms" rather than Steam.
