Seems to me that they used the same models/animations from 3DS to save time and resources—hopefully, so that the majority of their focus can be on revamping everything for next year's entry. Maybe too optimistic, but really hoping for a big shake-up with the next game.
Trying to look on the bright side—if NSO becomes the Netflix for Nintendo content, hopefully they will not have to start over with every future console. Seems that from Wii to Wii U to Switch, they've had to recode to get them working on the new architecture. If done properly, I would think we should be able to access everything released during the Switch's lifespan going forward. Eventually, all of that legacy content would be present.
@MH4 I've often dreamed of a cinematic RPG that takes place in first century Palestine where you play as a random (there could even be a character creator) and encounter personalities from the Bible narrative. The kind of game where you are on the outside looking in and then become embroiled in the narrative as it comes to its climax. I think that could be a pretty powerful vehicle for sharing the Gospel.
In defense of these artists, to me this does not bear the hallmarks of what I would consider "Flash" visuals. There is way too much detail, no gratuitous use of linear/radial gradients, no drop shadows, and no stilted, puppeteer animation. This looks more like a hand-animated comic book come to life. Kudos to the artists for animating every frame instead of just setting up a couple of keyframes and letting it tween the rest. WonderBoy was equally beautiful. I love oversized pixels as much as the next guy, but to do this art style right requires a lot more skill and attention to detail, IMO.
@Nincompoop Totally agree. Put in 25 hours and the battle system got pretty stale. Not to mention, the storylines are a right snooze-fest. IMO, the Bravely games stand a head above Octopath.
Was really excited about the art style and the fact that merge had a physical release in the cards, but boy does it sound like an exercise in frustration.
@SgtQuint I actually imported that one a couple of weeks ago. No extra goodies, but I don't care about those anyway. The price was just right ($30). BTW, it is an outstanding game, isn't it?
I sort of hope they can work with nicalis on this so that we can get a reasonably priced physical copy with some small extras. I don't want to have to buy an $80 special edition to get this on cart.
Bought a Tryone gooseneck holder last year for use with the Switch, and it's worked phenomenally. Clamp it onto the headboard of the bed, and you can lie on your back and play with joycons detached. Makes it really hard to go back to sitting on the couch.
I would prefer that Nintendo continue to remaster their best games from that era. I'm envisioning SM64 using Odyssey engine and assets. Heck, they already have a head start on the Mushroom Kingdom.
Might pick this up in spite of Capcom's decision to split the package. X1-X4 on one cart is still a fantastic deal for $40 ($32 with bb gamers club) considering the outrageous price that the original carts go for.
Just bought a modded gba with ags101 backlit, glass screen and usb rechargable battery with custom shell and button colors for $150. Seemed like a good price. The agb feels so much nicer in the hand than the SP. Can't wait to get it in the mail.
@-DG Agree. My son and I are at 98% completion (with only the top level of the boss rush mode to beat) and have put in at least 20 hours. I have to admit, I'm getting to the point where I've about had enough, but it was a really fun ride! And the little ones are just enamored with the game.
I feel like there's a general misunderstanding about how Limited Run is treating their Switch releases. They are not pre-producing a set number of copies that, once sold out, are gone forever. Instead, they are taking preorders on Switch titles in a certain time window and will produce as many as they get preorders for. I think this has something to do with the fact that they have to have Nintendo manufacture the carts, instead of just being able to burn a Blu-ray. In any case, this is great for the consumer—anybody who wants a copy will be able to get a copy.
@XenoShaun It does, though I often console myself with the idea that we are still relatively early in the Switch's life, and developers are still probably trying to find the best way to develop for the new platform. Hopefully in year 3 we will see more parity.
@imgrowinglegs Bummer! I used to have a bunch of the rare games including Astal, Shining Force 3 and Dragon Force. Of course, as a broke teenager, I had to sell those to buy the next system. Still kick myself every now and again. I imagine Sega could get close to retail price out of a lot of us for a Switch release of Panzer Dragoon Saga.
A number of Saturn titles I want to play again and some I never had the chance to play: Nights, Burning Rangers, Shining Force 3, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Dragon Force, etc. Why do they test the waters with games we've played a million times instead of starting with the games that would really get people excited?
Wow, a ton of great deals. Hopefully, we get something similar in the US before the end of March so that we can spend those gold coins that are about to expire...

Great idea. Hoping that the more deserving/anticipated Indies still receive proper reviews.

This needs to be at a $20 price point.

@NightBeast A supergiant collection with bastion, transistor, and pyre would be a dream come true.

Now if only Nintendo would oblige...

@bimmy-lee Another great concept for Waluigi's first game!

@thesilverbrick Physical for me too. Sounds like this is one that really deserves the special treatment.
Re: This Switch Game Case Can Carry 28 Of Your Games And 10 Micro SD Cards
@Zebetite Exactly. I try to only keep a couple of games in my carrying case at any given time. Too much invested to lose it all in one fell swoop.

Re: Video: Mega Man 11 Will Blast Onto Nintendo Switch On 2nd October (And You Can Pre-Order It Right Now)
Really stoked for this, especially if the physical edition is $40 or less. MM voice actor sounds a bit too much like Sonic for my tastes though...

@Mr_Pepperami Probably because of Sega Ages.
Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)
Almost certain this will be the next million+ seller we hear about.
Re: Splatoon 2 Is About To Have A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splatfest Tournament
@RupeeClock wow, you're right. The new art style is atrocious.

Re: SaGa: Scarlet Grace Hits Japanese Switch Consoles In August
A jRPG with no gratuitous fan-service? One of the reasons I enjoy the Bravely Series so much. Would love if they brought this westward.
Re: Tune In Next Week For Saturday Morning RPG On Your Nintendo Switch, Kids
At least with switch titles, they are taking preorders and fulfilling all of them instead of printing a set number and selling it in 30 seconds.

@Fake-E-Lee It's almost as bad as July, eh?
Re: Yoku's Island Express Will Post Itself Onto Nintendo Switch On 29th May
Will gladly pay the price for physical. I'm a sucker for beautiful art and unique game mechanics.
Re: Limited Run Games Is Totally Down For A Physical Edition Of Yooka-Laylee
Only way I'll pick it up. Price is too steep for digital only.
Re: Limited Run Games Are Doing Some Lavish Collector's Editions Of FlintHook And Mercenary Kings Reloaded
Definitely going in on a standard Flinthook. Been waiting to get it physical.
Re: FDG Entertainment Teases Physical Edition Of Oceanhorn On Switch
This is a fun little game from last spring. Would only double dip if it hits retail at $30 though.

Re: Pack Your Hiking Gear Because Firewatch Is Coming to Nintendo Switch
Saw the title and my brain read "The Witness" for some reason. Got really excited. That's the one I'm waiting for!
Re: Max: The Curse of Brotherhood Secures April Physical Release, And A New Trailer Of Multiple Deaths
The frame rate seemed to be a bit unstable in the demo. Can anybody who bought the full game comment on that? Did the game receive any patches?

Ni no kuni 2, blossom tales and Kirby. Star Allies has turned out to be a blast for our family... The kids and I love it.
