Limited Run Games is helping bring some of Nintendo Switch's most beloved indie titles into the realm of boxed editions - check out its limited edition versions of Flinthook and Mercenary Kings Reloaded - but what about one of Switch's best platformers? What about Yooka-Laylee?
Well, we could be close to seeing the bat and chameleon combo making their way to your shelves, because it sounds like the publisher is well up for the idea. One Twitter user recently tweeted at the firm asking that very question, and they're response has us hoping for a boxed copy to rival those on PS4 and Xbox One.
Would you like to see Yooka-Laylee get a physical edition on Switch? (187 votes)
- Yes!
- Nope
- Not bothered either way...

So would you want to see Yooka-Laylee in a boxed edition? Are you a collector, or are you not that bothered about having copies of a game on a shelf? We want to hear your hot take...

I did not purchase the digital copy because I am patiently waiting for someone to figure out that yes, we like games on cartridges with boxes!
I mean, if it doesn't have a physical version I won't buy it. A digital game for 40 €? That's a price for a game that launches both physical and digital, but in this case it's even worse, because no retail version has been announced.
For 40 bucks I can buy 2 copies of the same game on Xbox One. I'll buy it on Switch if it comes physically, but if it doesn't... head first to the Xbox One version.
Too little too late.
The physical edition would have to be a deal good cheaper than the £35 cost to download it now. According to reviews it has to many flaws.
Playtonic expect us to double dip. They'll hold off a physical copy until adding DLC or something else that wasn't included in the downloadable version.
Switch owners need to (not) vote with their wallets to discourage this practice. Otherwise it'll keep happening.
Wow is this another false promise of physical edition for switch!
Only way I'll pick it up. Price is too steep for digital only.
Getting the physical edition if/when LRG releases it, or if that doesn't happen I'll wait to see if Playtonic pulls a Shantae and does a physical release down the line that has all the DLC on it.
Also, 40 bucks for just a digital version is way too much considering it's on sale for 20 or less on other platforms quite often...
I would love a physical edition if one does come out for Switch. Only problem is; in the eyes of Playtonic, Nintendo players are 2nd class citizens in comparison to PS4/XboxOne.
Been holding off for a physical copy also. Come on Playtonic!
I’m hoping it comes from super rare games from uk

If it happens it will not actually be limited copies will it? Limited Games is just a name right?
I would definitely like to see that, for sure.
Although as a backer who got his digital copy for the Switch and enjoyed the game, I won't douple dip for a physical release on the same platform.
I will buy the game if they release a physical version
I've been sticking to physical so yes.
@Shiryu Same
Yes I would like a physical version, like you have for all other platforms!
I played this on disc on PS4 soon after release as a rental.
I can't believe after everything this company went thru w/ the dragged out cancellation of the Wii U version of this game that they never even put it out on Switch on a cartridge. Anybody buying a physical version of this for $40 after all this time is really shocking. $20 I could see, that's the price it's been on PS4 and Xbox discs for awhile now.
And really, as a guy who enjoys 3D platformers, it wasn't all that good. First world was really good, 2nd was ok, 3rd was meh, 4th was awful and 5 wasn't even a world, just some levels strung together. And the hub world was a mess. Save your money for something better. From a better company.
AU$60 is far too expensive for a digital only game. The file size is also a kick in the teeth as there are only so many games (and patches/DLC) that you can store that's over 2GB each, even on a 200GB microSD card (and from memory, this game was about 6GB or so in size, eating up a significant fraction of the microSD card if it were to be downloaded).
I may still be interested in a physical edition but I'm sick and tired of being teased, especially as a physical edition was more or less promised from the start. With Odyssey already available and Crash in the pipeline, I have almost completely lost interest in this. It would take a port of Croc and Croc 2 for me to lose interest in this completely.
I want a physical copy though as a backer of this on kickstarter I would be a little pissed off.
Well I've just looked up the price of the PS4 physical copy and it's only £9.99.
It would seem mad, given the game's style and heritage, if the Nintendo console was the only one that didn't get a physical release. I would have thought that'd be the flagship version.
While I'm not a fan of the game myself, I'd love to see a physical version for those that do like the game.
I haven't got this yet and at 35 pound I won't get it on download
Plus prefer to have a boxed game any way
So if this happens I will get it day one
Feel this will end up being a free PSN+ game like RIME on PS4. It is already $19 on Amazon.
No point paying full price to have it box on Switch at this point
@don limited run games are usually one printing only. So they might have a preorder period, where there's no limit to preorder, then after the period closes, they order them plus a few extra copies ( I guess). Then that's it. Once they sold through that run, it's done. no second batch.
This game really needs to be physical. It's kind of laughable that it isn't, the whole point of the game is to appeal to N64 retro-heads, which are going to be, bar none, the core demographic looking for physical. Going digital, for an N64 throwback game, on a Nintendo platform, is like making games of PC "physical only."
@Lizuka For me, it’s the collector in me that prefer physical over digital. You can’t display a digital Switch game in your game room the same way you can display your collection of Nintendo games going all the way back to the NES.
But, it’s also about the guarentee that I can still play that game 25 years from now, not having to worry about digital licenses, servers and whatnot.
But I also buy games digitally, and I enjoy the freedom to pick and choose which game to play without having to get up of the coach or remember to pack it in my suitcase before I travel somewhere.
I am holding out for a physical version only, but for the price of $30, no more though. Got more money to spend now that I won't be buying Dark Souls Remastered for the Switch, since I have the feeling Bamco is holding that back for double dippers. I won't be played like that!
Did not buy download because want hard copy! Give it to me or lose a sale forever!
Meh no thanks game is mediocre, so i would bother buying it.
I'd like a physical so I can sell it once completed
Physical copy or no purchase
I'm waiting for this to happen. 40$ for a download, no thanks!
@techdude
Thanks for the clarification. I guess if and when they do have physical copies available to preorder, I’ll be jumping on it to not miss out.
Sigh...got tired of waiting for a physical copy of the Switch version so I have to admit I bought it the other day digitally on the PS4 because (A) I have a 4TB hard drive attached to my PS4 and (B) it went on sale for PS+ subscribers from $50 CDN down to $18 so I couldn't resist. IF there ever is a physical Switch release I may still snag it when after it drops in price a bit.
Has anyone bought anything from them with shipping to Europe? I've heard that they charge you import fees and taxes up front, like ebay with the international shipping program.

I don’t understand why there isn’t a physical for Switch.
I bought the game, on sale, brand new & sealed for £10 (PS4).
Surely they could have a ‘budget’ release for £20-25 & still be viable.
Could be a good faith gesture & you might get people to double dip.
Game was just too flawed to warrant a physical purchase from me. Which is shame, because it had so much potential.
Sigh.
I still prefer physical over digital
i would prefer someone else to make the physical's.
If they do it I'll buy it.
@Shiryu same here! Is still in my waiting list and I think it will never get out of there. I just want the game in a cartridge.
One reason I haven't purchased it yet. Was hoping for a boxed version.
Still patently waiting for a sale on the eshop and won't pay extra for physical. $30 tops!
Got it on the eShop few weeks ago because I gave up hope on any physical release. So please, don't release it now I've just bought it
I backed the damn game and played on PS4...it was crap. Not really interested in giving them MORE money.
The way I see it, the only way Playtonic gets my money is with a physical release. I'll download smaller games that don't come in a package for any console, but if Yooka-Laylee can be released on PS4 and XBOX One in a physical format, the same should be done for the Nintendo system, especially for the Nintendo system, given the origins of this game and it's development team!
This is why I still haven't bought the game. I can't bring myself to pull the trigger on $40+ digital games. I'd buy a physical copy day one however.
Can the poll have an option of "Yes, from anyone but LRG?" I'd like a physical game but I don't want a heavy-handed sales tactic.
At this point I think I’ve lost any interest in getting this... ever.
I can think of at least 20 eshop titles I'd rather have.
@Shiryu Same here. I'm also waiting on physical versions of Stardew Valley and Wulverblade. I feel like those chances are pretty good!
Just read that LR is also doing Night Trap for Switch!! How you like that Howie??? 🤣
I wish they would have done this originally, the download is big enough to justify it.
I want a normal physical copy. No limited edition.
Yes
How do my kids share a digital copy on their two switches? No hard copy = fighting / hard copy = peace in gaming land.
