Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed In Nintendo Direct E3 2021

A very good Direct in my opinion - far better than the February one and I liked it more than both 2018 and 2019’s E3 presentations. A new WarioWare, a 2-in-1 Advance Wars remake, the BOTW2 trailer, and especially Metroid Dread(!) were all great announcements. And remasters/ports like Super Monkey Ball, Danganronpa, Fatal Frame, as well as Mario Party round out this year’s lineup really nicely!

Re: Nintendo's Official Website Reveals Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope, Coming To Switch In 2022

I played through the first chapter of the first game and I liked it but it wasn’t for me. I’m glad fans of it are getting a sequel, but what I’m more interested in is Nintendo’s schedule for next year. This, Splatoon 3, and possibly BOTW2 already makes 2022 look like the next 2017, though I hope they have all new games and not just sequels to franchises that are already on Switch!

Re: Talking Point: With Sony And Microsoft In Next-Gen Limbo, E3 Is Nintendo's For The Taking

ianl579

Nintendo's momentum has been stalled ever since New Horizons launched, especially since anticipated titles like BOTW2 haven't had release dates (obviously not their fault, though the February Direct didn't help matters). This is their chance to get back on track and reveal their plan for the next year or two of Switch. (Because Mario Golf and Skyward Sword HD might be great games, but they're not system sellers.)

Re: Talking Point: amiibo Have Always Been Physical DLC, Skyward Sword HD Is No Different

ianl579

The best use of amiibo I can think of was Super Mario Maker, which was compatible with most of the figures available at the time and each unlocked a specific amiibo costume to use in SMB levels. What made it work was that all the costumes were still available to players without amiibo through the 100 Mario Challenge; owning amiibo just got them faster. In the context of SSHD, what Nintendo should have done is have the feature unlock at some point throughout the game while owning the amiibo just allows you to access it before that point. I think if that were the case, there would be a lot less criticism.

Re: Soapbox: Is It Time For Game Rental Stores To Return?

ianl579

Rental stores just aren't viable anymore. An independent movie/game one by me closed down several years ago and Family Video just went out of business recently. I'd certainly be open for a rental model to return with physical games but it has to come from an established company that can fall back on other avenues of revenue (like Gamestop), where consumers can choose whether to buy or rent a new, available game.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

ianl579

Does the Switch have N64 games or GBA games (especially important now that cartridges have dramatically increased in price)? Can the Switch play nearly every home console Nintendo game released from 2007-2016?

Unless you only care about the last decade or so of Nintendo games and don't mind paying more for Switch ports compared to their original prices on the Wii U eshop / secondhand, it's well worth it.

Re: Reminder: The Entire Shantae Series Is Now Available On The Nintendo Switch

ianl579

"There's rarely a point in time when every game in a particular series is available on one console."

Unfortunate but true. I firmly believe that video game companies such as Nintendo should get as many of their old games as possible on modern systems. Just as we don't have to buy 20 year-old technology to watch 20-year old movies, players shouldn't have to buy 20-year old consoles to play 20-year old games. I hope more follow WayForward's lead here.

Re: F-Zero Isn't Dead - It's Just Sleeping, Says Nintendo Legend Takaya Imamura

ianl579

The only F-Zero game that's been widely available to consumers since the GBA (outside of the Wii U eshop) is the original. Tens of millions of Switch owners might have no idea the series exists or would only recognize the name and Captain Falcon from Smash. Even if Nintendo doesn't feel the need to make a new game, they should at least rerelease the original games on Switch, since those games will be new for the large majority of the Switch's user base. GX is especially deserving of one as it's been stuck on the GameCube for the past 15+ years.
