There's rarely a point in time when every game in a particular series is available on one console, but today is one of those days.
WayFoward this week released Shantae's original Game Boy Color outing on the Nintendo Switch eShop - meaning you can now experience all of Shantae's adventures wherever you go.
"With today's release of the original Shantae in the Switch eShop, all five Shantae games are available on a single system for the first time ever!"
This includes the following titles: Shantae, Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition, and Shantae and the Seven Sirens.
To celebrate this special occasion, WayForward has released a special trailer, which you can view above. Will you be adding the first Shantae game to your Nintendo Switch collection? Leave a comment down below.

I didn't realize that until just now. But that's pretty cool!
Nice. Some good games right there. Even the the highly sexualized ones.
Bought them all physically.
All the Shantae, all the love. <3 <3 <3
Got them all too. Now I just need her playable in Smash. To me, she’s always been a Nintendo character.
It's nice that she's had such a lucrative career from such humble Game Boy Color origins.
A lot of Shantae on the Switch.
"There's rarely a point in time when every game in a particular series is available on one console."
Unfortunate but true. I firmly believe that video game companies such as Nintendo should get as many of their old games as possible on modern systems. Just as we don't have to buy 20 year-old technology to watch 20-year old movies, players shouldn't have to buy 20-year old consoles to play 20-year old games. I hope more follow WayForward's lead here.
Got mine in the mail from limited run last week, started up the first one, but I am late to the Shantae game and didn't get Pirate's Curse originally, so now I'm having to get it for higher prices.
Have all 5 retail copies!! Great group of games!
I just need the physical Switch release of Pirate's Curse, which I sadly cannot find for a reasonable amount.
At the time that it was available, I was apprehensive as I didn't want to hoard yet another series of games that I was unlikely to play to any length.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong (even though this is subjective and some are better than others) but there has never been a bad Shantae game right?
@Silly_G LRG should have reprinted Pirate's Curse when they were doing that big Shantae event last year, IMO. I might have splurged on an expensive physical set of all the games if it had been available.
@Darthroseman ikr I'm in the same boat.....it's hard to pay $500 and up for a physical game sigh but I got the rest physical.
@Ralizah : That would have been nice, but they have a no reprint policy, and the copies I found on eBay are ludicrously expensive. Ironically, one of the collector's editions was one of the more reasonably priced ones, but I have no desire for Collector's Edition when all of the others are standard.
I even bought the alternate Best Buy cover from LRG for consistency's sake as I imported the Asian release of Seven Sirens.
@Ralizah from my understanding I've been told lrg doesn't do reprints sadly. I got all of them physical except pirates curse sigh.....the lowest I've seen is $500 now and it's sad scalpers are overcharging for a game
I mean this is really cool and it's been a long time since I played the original but I remember it being really impressive. Still, a part of me that sees all these one off release and feels a proper virtual console tied to an account being one step further away.
Neat! Though I only have one which released on Wii U. Unfortunately it didn't grab my attention too much. But I may try again, knowing this.
@N8tiveT3ch You mean ESPECIALLY the highly sexualized ones!
Now if only we could get those ports/sequels of Mighty Flip Champs and and Mighty Milky-Way
Also aviable on Gog, if someone doesn't care about Systems and wants control over their buys :>
I am so behind on this series. Played the first one lots of times and finished the second. I got the third game on my Wii U but haven't touched it yet and the rest well i'm not starting those until i get caught up. Maybe i better get on that.
I've just deleted Risky's Revenge. Spent about two hours playing it and it simply failed to engage me at all. No knockback on collisions is a horrendous mistake in a game such as this. Too much talking, poorly signposted goals, wasn't a fan of the plane-switching. I've started Iconoclasts straight afterwards and it's so much better it's not even funny.
I really love the first game, I beat it on 3ds and seriously considering to get it again.
Also loved pirates curse... haha double dipping. I didn’t really like the 1/2 genie hero one so I’m a bit holding back on the seven sirens...
Already double-dipped as intended - and on Pirate's Curse (which was actually my very first 3DS game ever obtained) while I was at it. Counting Risky's Revenge, three down, two to go. :3
Switch is really Shantaelicious now, even before we get started on crossover cameos like the one in Blaster Master.
@Yosher
Same, compared to stuff like Hollow Knight, Monster Boy, Iconoclasts etc Risky's Revenge just isn't in the same league.
I can imagine they'll release a collection one of these days. The prices for the limited release versions indicate there's a demand for these games physically, but only a few are gonna stoop to those prices. Stick all of them on a single cart and **** the scalpers up the ***, I say.
@ferryb001 1/2 genie is the one I didn't like also. Love the rest of the series tho, including Seven Sirens. Found Seven Sirens to be much better than 1/2 Genie.
I must admit I had never heard about the Shantae series until it came out on 3DS/VC — for a Game Boy game it really pushed the 8-bit hardware to its limits. I never did finish it so it'll be nice to jump back in and play the series in its entirety.
The uncomfortable truth about Shantae is that it's hardly a superb series of platformers, running more on waifu power than actually good gameplay. But at least Risky's Revenge and Pirate's Curse are worth a play through.
@Azuris Could only see 4 of the 5 on GOG, but good to know they are on there too
@JHDK I've seen some mixed opinions on some of the games but not outright negative ones. I'm not a Shantae review aficionado though so I'm not quite sure what the general opinion of the games are.
I never finished Pirate's Curse on my 2ds so I'll get it on Switch.
It's honestly pretty cool that this happened.
It's also very cool that physical copies of all these games will be available for the same system. I should have a full set in my possession in coming months, as LRG fulfills my pre-orders.
Hmm Shantae: A Half Genie History, sounds like a good title for a collection to me. I’ve really only played a couple of these and liked them enough. I’d like to try the original.
Shantae for Smash!!!
I just miss what that came out yesterday
The second and third are the best imo. I didn't like Half Genie Hero as much and haven't even picked up Seven Sirens yet.
The original must have been awesome in its time though.
Very cool indeed. I have the complete physical set for the Switch! Definitely wish more companies would do this. I don’t want Nintendo to remake every one of their games as that would cut into development of new games but simple, fairly priced ports and more of the online service virtual console apps would be nice.
@ianl579 It kind of bugs me that Nintendo doesn't care about bringing a full series to the Switch, even if they're only one game away from doing it. Sure, the lack of Splatoon 1 will bother me when the third game releases, and I'm excited to not have Bayonetta on my shelf next to B2 by the time B3 releases, but until then, I can always look with disgust at my incomplete Xenoblade collection with Definitive Edition, 2, and Torna, but not X.
I'm only missing a physical copy of Pirate's Curse. I didn't know it was already released physically, so sadly I missed out. Seeing other comments saying it's reselling for $500 plus, I guess I won't be getting that anytime soon 😒.
@DTfeartheBEARD I picked that up sometime before Seven Sirens was announced to get the Limited Run treatment, and I only paid $70. When I went back to that page to see how much it was after the fact, I was shocked. I really hope Limited Run Games does a reprint for Pirate's Curse, especially if they actually care about being able to purchase Shantae at a reasonable price. Heck, that's the reason why they released the GameBoy Color cartridge in the first place; It was impossible to find it online without breaking the bank for a used copy.
Great. I can't wait to get my hands on these. I've been wanting to play a Shantae game for a while now so I might treat myself for a bit. I guess it wouldn't hurt.
#Shantae4smash
@KayFiOS Hopefully Best Buy will get some Limited Run stock of it or something. That's usually how I get my Limited Run games. Otherwise if I can't find it for a reasonable price then unfortunately I'll have to go without or download it.
Great games (at least the first 3), but I wish they were cheaper.
Got them all digitally, since we're being oddly specific to the format in this section.
@Shadowthrone I'd love to pick up Pirates Curse for 3ds physical. It's getting expensive though. Pirates Curse on the 3ds has 3D. Defo one of the best uses of 3D on 3ds.
It's a bit tempting, but I think "Pirate's Curse" is enough Shantae for me.
Make it a collection and I'll buy it pronto!
