Re: Rumour: Get That Salt Ready, Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrid Console

iMarkU

@glaemay Because the mobile gaming market is significant larger than Nintendo's? The average spending on Fortnite is 293 million usd PER DAY. That equals to selling 4.883 times a Switch game per day.

Nintendo's net margin is predicted on 27.3% this year (versus 19.8% in 2020). Don't forget that Nintendo already made profit on the Switch hardware from day one.

In comparison:
Apple 24.5% this year, 20.9% last year
Sony 13% this year and 7.05% last year
Microsoft 35.7% this year and 31% last year

Microsoft had an even more incredible 40% last quarter. But thats mostly driven through their cloud computing department.

Re: Rumour: Get That Salt Ready, Apple Is Reportedly Working On A Nintendo Switch-Style Hybrid Console

@danemord Except that Nintendo has some of the highest profit margins in the industry (even higher than Apple which is already pretty high with 42%). Lets not kid ourselves, the Switch is running a CPU from 6 years ago and selling a device which is four years old for the same price as it was on launch. Even Apple doesn't manage that with their price point and reputation. I mean heck in some places the Switch is more expensive than it was on launch due to Covid and the processor shortage. Thats beyond incredible.

But as already mentioned above here, they wouldn't compete in the same segment. Apples uses significant higher quality components (screens, processor, material). It would for sure be triple the price of a Switch. Plus this rumour does get more interesting in combination with the VR headset that they are rumoured to work on.

Re: Random: Head Of Xbox Phil Spencer Still Has That Nintendo Switch On His Shelf

iMarkU

@ChromaticDracula Having gamepass on the switch doesn't equal Mario on the xbox.

Reasons why is is interesting for Nintendo:
1. By demanding a royalties you can earn money from a service you are not spending any money on.
2. It would help to increase the game library from Nintendo, promoting more graphically demanding games for on the go. Nintendo and Xbox exclusives don't compete for the same target group, they complement each other.
3. More games, more interest, more hardware sales, more Nintendo 1th party sales loop.
4. Nintendo is already dipping their toes with cloud gaming. Xbox cloud gaming is a proven platform where they could profit from their infrastructure.

Reasons why it is interesting for Microsoft:
1. It could Microsoft to expand into Japan, a region where they never gained ground.
2. It could help them expand the playerbase for Gamepass. Microsoft is not interested in handhelds, so expanding gamepass to the Switch wouldn't interfer with their own interests. Gamepass business model is only profitable by increasing subscribers.
3. It would help both companies to have a stronger ground against Sony which is doing pretty darn well with Playstation.

With the rollout of Gamepass and Cloud Gaming to iOs this week (Android last november) its not completely unthinkable.

Re: Universal Orlando's Super Nintendo World Gets Delayed Until 2025

iMarkU

@MS7000 Orlando and Tokyo will share the exact same layout. Only Orlando will open with both phases at the same time, Japan already started on phase 2 but the openingdate is not known yet.

Phase 1 = Mario kart + yoshi
Phase 2 = Donkey Kong minecart ride

California is already well underway and will receive an unique layout without Yoshi and Donkey Kong due to space. Although there is space to add Donkey Kong later, but as far as I know it is not planned for now.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To Reveal New Switch Model With Samsung OLED Display And 4K Support

iMarkU

@Darknyht
In 2006 when the Wii came out the adoption rate for HDTV was 36%. There are no specific numbers for 4k, but the estimation is that it should be above 50% by now, maybe even higher with how many peopel are investing in new TV due to covid. But we know for sure that the adoption rate for 4K is signifcant higher than it was for HDTV.

Also do note that this switch pro has 4k output, it doesn't render the games in 4k quality. What the nvidia software does is scaling up the output to make the visuals sharper.

Re: Super Nintendo World Will Open February 2021, New Images And Mario Kart Ride Detailed

iMarkU

@Jacobpower
Eventually. Confirmed right now is: Singapore, Orlando and Hollywood.

Hollywood is being constructed right now, with rumours pointig to a scaled down version without the Yoshi darkride due to space. Orlando was planning to add both phase 1 and phase 2 (Donkey kong area) at the same time in Epic Universe 2023. But those plans are problaby going to be changed due to covid. Singapore is still unknown.

Re: Ninjala Gets Delayed Until Next Month Due To The Coronavirus Outbreak

iMarkU

@tekknik I am not saying that rolling out projects is impossible. But working in IT myself I can what impact working from a distance has. Its not impossible, it just takes time to adjust to this new way of working. Having been working from home for the last 8 weeks it took us atleast a month before being properly adjusted. Japan only went to working from home last week.

I do want to add that the virus has also shown why we want to work from location for certain situations, I can tell you that having meetings with 8 people is a hell of a job over video conferencing . Especially if somebody their microphone is not working properly.

In the end, does it really matter why they delayed it? Hopefully they take the month extra time to polish the game further.

Re: Ninjala Gets Delayed Until Next Month Due To The Coronavirus Outbreak

iMarkU

@MrBlacky
1. People aren't working in the office.
2. Communication and collaboration over distance takes more effort.
3. Fixing things that you found in the beta, therefore take a longer time.

Its only a month and that is really not that much time to fix things, especially because the virus makes work more time consuming. The virus caused the delay indirectly, and that is a nuance you seem to have missed.

Re: Super Nintendo World To "Redefine" Theme Parks With Wristband That Connects To Your Console

iMarkU

@Lizuka unless its build by Universal or Disney. Harry Potter, Avatar, Star Wars and most of Disney’s other properties as example.

@Franklin
Orlando’s original plans are abandoned in favor of moving it into Epic Universe, their new themepark. In fact, it looks like Orlando will get both phase 1 (Mario Kart + Yoshi) and phase 2 (Donkey Kong coaster) on openingday. Hollywood will receive only the Mario Kart ride, mostly due to space.

@Galarian_Lassie
The lower lot showbuilding is for the Mario Kart attraction.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues

@AlternateButtons
Just because you don’t have the problem yet doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I clean my controllers almost every day and have a mom with a cleaning obsession who thinks its necessary to vacuum everyday. And guess what? One of my joycons ocasionally drifts aswell. I did everything I can and could to protect my hardware and don’t you dare telling me I don’t take care of my hardware. Because I am 100% sure I take better care of it than you do.

@Jokerwolf
Two decades? You do realize the iPhone is only 11 years old, and has shaken the entire mobile industry (and rippling throughout the rest of the technological industry) as well. Early adaption is rarely meant for broad implementation, but give it half a decade rather than two. Things can go really fast once one company starts with it.

Re: Nintendo And Sony Shares Drop Following Google's Stadia Reveal

iMarkU

@sixrings
Looking at some of the reactions here, most of the people don't even understand what Google Stadia is. Its not a console. It is a streaming platform that can stream games to technically every platform, including the Switch. There is a reason why people believe Google has a better chance:
1. They already have a large amount of data centers around the world
2. Its google, they know the internet like no other company
3. They have a controller which connects directly to the datacenters to reduce latency

Stadia does need atleast a 25 mb/s internet connection, but they are only rolling this out in the US, Canada, UK and Europe (initially). Streaming is not supposed to be something that applies to the whole world.

Nobody believed in Spotify and Netflix, look where we are now.

Re: UK Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Still Leads The Way For Switch, The Division 2 Takes Top Spot

iMarkU

@Lemmy_the_Koopa
I was just being cynical (: . I had a Wii U myself as well, but I realize that porting these games cost almost zero effort for Nintendo. Therefore the argument that "they might as well make new games" are quite irrelevant. Besides these games are not promoted by Nintendo as big releases and they fill the gaps between the big releases.

Its not Nintendo that needs to create more games (they actually have an incredible high output in comparison to Microsoft/Sony their own studios). Its the third parties that need to make more games for the Switch, and that is Nintendo's responsibility to get them onboard. Which is, again, a whole different team's responsibility than this porting team.

I don't see Nintendo releasing a Mario Kart 9 unless they have a big game changing mechanic up their sleeves. I actually rather have them creating new DLC for Mario Kart 8. This is actually the only game I bought again on the Switch, only because its a multiplayer game and I play it so much.
