Nintendo has released an updated schedule of its upcoming releases, providing us with the most up-to-date info on the games coming our way in 2019 and beyond.
Very little has changed since the last update we received, although Super Mario Maker 2's release date announcement has, of course, made the list. While the list doesn't give us any more juicy info, it also shows that as of today - 25th April - the likes of Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Luigi's Mansion are all seemingly safe from delays or other hiccups.
Here are those all-important release windows across Japan, the US and Europe:
Japan (correct as of 25th April, 2019)
- Super Mario Maker 2 - 6/28/2019
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 7/26/2019
- Astral Chain - 8/30/2019
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - Summer 2019
- Pokémon Sword and Shield - Winter 2019
- Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch - 2019
- Luigi's Mansion 3 - 2019
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 2019

- Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 7/26/2019
- Astral Chain - 8/30/2019
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - Summer 2019
- Daemon X Machina - Summer 2019
- Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition - Fall 2019
- Pokémon Sword and Shield - Late 2019
- Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch - 2019
- Luigi's Mansion 3 - 2019
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 2019
- Bayonetta 3 - TBA
- Metroid Prime 4 - TBA
Europe (correct as of 25th April, 2019)
- Super Mario Maker 2 - 6/28/2019
- Dragon Quest Builders 2 - 7/12/2019
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 7/26/2019
- Astral Chain - 8/30/2019
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order - Summer 2019
- Daemon X Machina - Summer 2019
- Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition - Fall 2019
- Pokémon Sword and Shield - Late 2019
- Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch - 2019
- Luigi's Mansion 3 - 2019
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - 2019
- Bayonetta 3 - TBA
- Metroid Prime 4 - TBA
Yes, Pokémon Sword and Shield are listed as 'Winter 2019' in Japan and 'Late 2019' in the west. We're not entirely sure why, but we wouldn't read too much into it - we'd bet our Pokémon Edition Nintendo 64 that it'll get a simultaneous worldwide release. Maybe.
Which games are you most excited for? Do you plan on buying many of the titles listed? Let us know in the comments.

I'm looking forward to everything on the list. Lol I'm glad animal crossing didnt fall out of the 2019 release window!
This year is still shaping up to go out with a bang. Nintendo has my wallet in their clutches and don't want to let go.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was confirmed for 19th July 2019
List is looking good. I can see Nintendo easily selling 17 million Switchs this fiscal year.
Geez I am getting all of these. (Well maybe not pokemon) I need a money tree.
To be fair only interested in Luigi's Mansion and Bayonetta 3, so this does not effect me
Something Mario Maker showed me very quickly was that I have very little desire to actually construct my own custom Mario levels to play in. Loved the level sharing mode though because I played the crap out of other people's creations.
One dude on there even made an entire game's worth of levels, like 9 worlds.
I’m thinking Bayonetta 3 will be a 2020 release.
What happened to Pikmin 4 I wonder...
Animal Crossing is the big one for me! Hoping they drop it before the end of October so I can enjoy Halloween and lose myself in a few hundred hours before the holiday season =0p
Relentless... What a great year.
I'm really curious about Animal Crossing Switch. 🤔
Will it have build features like Dragon Quest Builders / The Sims ?
But i'm waiting for the Biggest One for me...
...
...
THE SIMS 4 on Nintendo Switch!!!
Well, sort of 4... 5 with Yokai Watch.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses - 7/26/2019
Astral Chain - 8/30/2019
Bayonetta 3 - TBA
Metroid Prime 4 - TBA
After last year, this feels like a bonanza!
european dates are in american format
i.e. super mario maker 2 is the 28/6/19
Still angry about P5S... where da hell is my persona 5 on ly beloved switch???????
There are ten games on that list that I will buy this year. So much for my wallet lol
@Anti-Matter so long as they don't muck it up like AC on the Wii, I think we'll be in for a treat. I'm sure if will have more customisable features, but I doubt it will allow for build features found in Sims / DQ Builders. Still a day one purchase for me! ^_^
Really glad to hear that Animal Crossing Switch is still currently planned for a 2019 release! If that game got delayed, I honestly feel like I would slip into a small depression ...
However looking at the release schedule for the remainder of the year and then looking back at what's released for far up until April 25th, one thing that I really hope Nintendo gets sorted out by the time 2020 rolls around is completely reworking and fixing their release schedules. Don't get me wrong, while the second half of this year looks like it will an incredibly robust one for Switch owners, only releasing ONE new major release for most one half of the year and then pumping around NINE major releases for the latter portion of the year is a horribly lopsided release schedule and could possibly lead to some people getting completely burnt out with all the new games releasing in such a short period of time. Hopefully by the time 2020 rolls around Nintendo are able to release a steady flow of games for both portions of the year in order to avoid a massive game drought (like most of 2018 and Jan-May 2019) or new game overload (Jun-Dec 2019).
@sikthvash
Oh, wait.
I heard some critiques from Animal Crossing City Folk Wii.
What are the Cons from City Folk ?
How much of my money is Nintendo wanting this year?
Ultimate Alliance 3 has a release date though...
I want pretty much all of these. Except Mario Maker. I'll probably skip that unless my library gets it. But, FE, Ultimate Alliance, Astral Chain, Luigi's Mansion, Zelda, Pokemon, Dragon Quest and God Eater 3 I want all of. I'm not an Animal Crossing fan either so I'll skip that one. Also want Crash Team Racing and Daemon X Machina but I think the latter will be pushed too Fall from a Summer release date. I think Bayonetta 3 and Prime 4 will be next year. Here's hoping for Prime Trilogy this year sometime too!
@Anti-Matter it was barely any different from Wild World on the DS, and, to me, it somehow lost it's charm in the process; everything felt very repetitive and stale. Thankfully, New Leaf came along and fixed everything!
Money is overrated.
I can't wait to sink in sooooooooooooooooo many hours in to Animal Crossing Switch! Digital day 1 purchase for me! I need this game always on my system. Hopefully Nintendo will do a pre-purchase offer where we get bonus Gold Coins that I can use towards other game purchases because this list is full of games I want to buy!
@Tarolusa A easier way of digesting that previous long comment is breaking up the release dates in much greater detail:
*The wait between Smash Bros Ultimate and Yoshi's Crafted World was 16 weeks
*The wait between Crafted World and Mario Maker 2 will be 13 weeks
*The next major release after Mario Maker 2 will be (unless you live in Japan where it will be FE: Three Houses but even then that will only be a measly 4 week) will be Dragon Quest Builders 2 which will release only 2 weeks after Mario Maker
*If you lived in the west, in July Dragon Quest Builders 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 and Fe: Three Houses will all release back to back from one another, meaning that unless we count smaller games (e.g. Travis Strikes Back and ports (e.g. NSMBU & FF10/12 HD), July alone will have more new major releases than all of Jan-Jun 2019 COMBINED.
*Five weeks after FE: Three Houses comes out, Astral Chain will release on August 30th but also just remember that Daemon x Machina could easily release any time between June to August so for all we know Daemon X Machina could be an early June release or come out just before Astral Chain to act as a stop-bridge game
*September to December will see the release for all Animal Crossing Switch, Dragon Quest XI Switch, Pokemon Sword/Shield, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Link's Awakening Switch which means that at least one of those months will have two games or possibly even three of them releasing all around the same time.
In summary, compare the completely barren Dec 2018-Jun 2019 (only three major new releases, one of them coming out at the end of June so it barely avoids being a second half 2019 game) to the compact July 2019-Dec 2019. It doesn't take a genius to see that A LOT more is happening in the latter in comparison to the former. The only thing I can hope for is that 2020 will end up being a lot more balanced in game releases than both 2018 and 2019 were.
To much games😭 rip wallet
Fire emblem, Astral chain, Demon x Machina, Fire emblem and of course the big one- Pokémon!
I want to buy Bayonetta 1+2 and Metroid Prime trilogy (when it will finally be announced) to prepare to be ready for the new games coming up
Is it me or is this list lacking content? I hope there will be some surprise 2019 announcements
list doesn't help at all lol 2019 still for animal crossing and luigi's mansion 3.
It's definitely reassuring to see Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion are still on track for this year. I suppose E3 will most definitely be our big looks at them. Between those two games and Pokemon, this will be one amazing holiday season. Link's Awakening and other titles are just bonuses to me!
There's a tsunami of games coming, and it's going to carry away most of my money.
Stupid American dates. Day/month/year please.
If you’re gonna bother giving release dates in different regions, you may as well list the date in the proper format...
Europe
Super Mario Maker 2 - 6/28/2019... the 6th of the 28th? What?
Just saying.
Still holding onto the dream that AC will be a big deal at E3 and they will be giving us a close release date...
Apparently I'm buying a ton of Switch games this year.
Glad the 3DS is still seeing support with Pokemon Sword and Shield.
Nintendo isn't going to casually delay a game during an investor briefing.
we'll get the dates for these at e3. can't wait this years e3 is going to be big for nintendo, i have a feeling 2020 is going to be great also.
@Tarolusa It seems really common for game companies in general to shove all of their releases into the latter half of the year. I never realized it, but when last Fall rolled around, it became clear how much of a bloodbath it can be with releases vying for attention. Funny enough, things were pretty quiet for Nintendo around then, and their releases (Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, and Smash) were largely unaffected.
I hope they spread things out similar to the Switch's initial release. Legend of Zelda to launch, with MK8DX, ARMS, Splatoon filling out the Spring/Summer, with a few other games rounding out the end of the year. I can't complain about what's currently planned for release, I'm just a bit concerned about when the games without release dates will be release, Mainly when it comes to Animal Crossing and Pokemon. They're both massive time sponges, and are most likely to step on each other's toes-so I'm hoping a Fall release for the former, and a winder release for the latter.
3 definite buys (not including MP4), and a few more maybes. Hoping for more announcements at E3.
Don't mind me, just waiting for Mario Maker 2.
i hope Daemon X Machina will be a better game in the end than the demo
Wouldn't be surprised if Pokemon continued its tradition of releasing the Friday before US Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday of November).
I'm most excited for Luigi's Mansion 3, and I hope they re-release 1 & 2 to get us hyped for it. Imagine playing the whole trilogy on Switch... in HD!
For me: Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age - Definitive Edition, Pokémon Sword and Shield, Animal Crossing for Nintendo Switch, Luigi's Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Metroid Prime 4.
Too bad, we can't just fast forward to the fall...
@sikthvash To me the Wii Animal Crossing was still good regardless of not many changes.
Astral Chain
Zelda
Bayonetta and
Metroid (if ever)
I’m good with that little list right there.
Hmmm....Town is noticeably absent from that list
@Ryu_Niiyama so, get Animal Crossing first hehehe
Why are the dates written in the 5/27/2019 format when almost only the USA uses it on this planet? And it's ok to write it this way for Americans but you use the USA date format for releases in Europe and Japan as well!!!
That’s a very strong list. I expect something to be delayed into 2020.
Wait! What about Town?!
Link's Awakening is the only game of interest to me, although I will keep a curious eye out in case Luigi's Mansion 3 is better than its predecessors.
@nagash Haha! I get the joke, but to be honest AC has yet to "hook" me. However that is likely because it has never been on a system where I can really focus on it (I play the 3ds by necessity but I always felt the screens were too small even the XL) as other games took priority first on home consoles.
I consider the Switch to be my end credits system (meaning I beat more games due to the pick up and play as well as play on tv nature of the system) so I'm more likely to really dig into this one. That being said, I will likely get it after everything else this year. Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem alone are going to ruin me.
That "window" for Animal Crossing is way too big!
coughUntitledGooseGamecough ;D
Really hope we get the Prime Trilogy this year. I NEED some Metroid,
I'll take Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina and Dragon Quest XI.
I'm not yet sure about Pokemon and Luigi's Mansion 3.
If announced, I'll gladly take Metroid Prime Trilogy and Mario Galaxy Collection.
Not interested in the rest
Last time they did one of these saying Three Houses was still scheduled for Spring 2019, and within about a week or two it somehow jumped to July 26th. So I'm really not sure why they bother doing this. MUA3 just got a solid release date, so IDK what that's all about.
Can't wait...a list with many games to my liking...
I’m most excited for
Mario maker 2
Luigis mansion 3
Pikmin 4
And anything that ends in 5
Super Mario Maker 2 and Dragon Quest Builders 2 have my eyes for the year, as well as indies like Brave Dungeon: The Meaning of Justice and (hopefully) Rabi-Ribi.
I need to hear more info for Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sw/Sh, and Link's Awakening Switch...
It's a pretty good list! Hoping to see more of Astral Chain at E3, Bayonetta 3 as well but I'll buy that regardless
"Pokémon Sword and Shield are listed as 'Winter 2019' in Japan and 'Late 2019' in the west."
Well, 'Winter 2019' starts on December 22th, so I guess they mean as usual 'late Fall 2019' in both cases.
sword and shield luigi mansion THIS IS MADNESS!!!!
All except animal crossing I am so hyped for
@nintendolife fast reading your headline caused me to at first think Nintendo was releasing these games on Windows COMPUTERS. I had a sad moment from that. Then I realised you meant time windows you time lords. Please don't play these games with me Nintendo Life!
@Agramonte I'm all in with everything on that list except for 2 entries. Care absolutely none for Animal Crossing, and not big into Dragon Quest builders although DQ XI S is one of my most anticipated titles of the year. Ready to heavily grind and hey into that game.
The mech game DxM, Luigi's Mansion, or the Rpg's (DQ XI, Pokemon) don't interest you?
Fire Emblem, AstralChain, AI the Somnium Files, Ultimate Alliance(pending reviews) maybe Link's Awakening and both Bayo3 and MP4 whenever those come out.
@Bunkerneath
As a fellow Bayonetta fan I'm curious why you were not interested by Astral Chain?
They are still saying 2019 for Animal Crossing. Great! But the total lack of information they have released about it is very concerning.
Pokemon will has already released trailers for Sword and Shield and we all know that'll be in November.
...Nintendo still will own a good chunk of my wallet this year.
Jeepers, I'm into almost everything on that list. There's no way I'll ever find time for half of it, though. Gonna be some tough choices soon.
@electrolite77
Yeah I think Nintendo will push back at least one of those listed games into Q1 2020 to ensure a stronger early 2020 schedule. My bet is either Luigi's Mansion 3 or Zelda Link's Awakening.
Pokemon Sword/Shield will be November launches as usual. Similarly, Animal Crossing is too big to be pushed back.
@MaSSiVeRiCaN You going to love the new DQ. I didn't want to wait and finished it on PS4. Sold it and bought it on PC to always have.
Kinda stupid because now I know PS5 is backward compatible I could have kept my physical copy. But oh well.
Anyway, I really do not want to play it again - but you should if you like jRPG... it should be a Million seller on Switch.
On the fence for Pokemon. I have the other 4 on pre-order, will wait to see what pokemon ends up being.
I'm for sure buying
Super Mario Maker 2,
Dragon Quest Builders 2,
Astral Chain,
Daemon X Machina
And I might buy
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Animal Crossing
Luigi's Mansion 3
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
It's easier to list the games I'm not going to buy:
That looks like a very promising line-up! Especially compared to how last year was half-comprised of Wii U re-releases.
But it also makes me wonder how many new first-party games will be announced at E3, maybe there could be some "special cases" of games without specific launch windows.
@Heavyarms55 i wouldn't be concern just yet. Nintendo did this to Smash Bros last year. and we finally heard a lot of things about it at E3 2018.
@Heavyarms55 Mario Maker 2 got revealed in february, only 4 months before its release. Its not uncommon or Nintendo to announce and release games shortly after each other. There was a time where Nintendo would announce games at the E3 and release them that same year (less than 6 months out). Still happens, but not that much anymore.
@IceEarthGuard Glad you enjoyed! Most of my nearest and dearest felt the same unfortunately, so we abandoned it fairly early on and went back to the DS version =0(
@Heavyarms55 Maybe Nook is short on bells. I should really go back and repay that loan for my last house upgrade . . .
Seriously, like you, I find it very strange to have not even a screen shot. With the success of New Leaf, and the depth of content in that game, fans will expect more from the new installment. So, with development this far along, there should be more than enough to tease us with. I don't understand it.
My thoughts on every release in NA
Super Mario Maker-MUST BUY
Dragon Quest Builders 2-Meh
FE:Three Houses-Maybe
Astral Chain- Maybe
Marvel UA3:TBO- Maybe
Daemon X Machina- Sure
Dragon Quest XI S- Don’t Know and don’t care
Animal Crossing- NONONO
Pokémon Sword And Shield- MUST BUY(I’m going sword)
Luigi’s Mansion 3- Most Likely Buy
Link’s Awakening-Maybe
Bayonetta 3- Sure(guess why I’m buying it)•U•
Metroid Prime 4- Meh
And that's just the Nintendo published stuff.
Theres WAYYY more when factoring in 3rd party games, which I buy way more of on Switch now that these amazing console games are finally playable on a portable device. From Trials Rising, Tales of Vesperia, Darksiders, Final Fantasy X/X-2, Mortal Kombat XI, Cuphead, Final Fantasy XII, World of Final Fantasy, Chocobo's Dungeon, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Dragon's Dogma, Resident Evil 0/1 Collection and Resident Evil 4, Assassins Creed 3 and Liberations, Saint's Row, Team Sonic Racing, Sniper Elite v2 Remastered, Sniper Elite 3, Pixark, Crash Racing, Red Faction Remarstered, God Eater 3, DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein Youngblood, Oninaki, Pillars of Eternity 2, Persona 5 Scramble, etc there's an insane number of great 3rd party games hitting Switch this year, almost all of which are blazing new ground for handheld gaming (and what's more, hybrid gaming which goes well beyond just playing on a handheld). Not to mention, you know Darksiders 2 is coming. You know Dark Souls 2 is coming. You know DMC HD Collection is coming.
It's just so dang exciting every time another great game joins the hybrid ranks. If Vita had a lineup like this it might have become the dominant handheld.
pikmin 4 isnt on there
Live on!
@dugan Agreed. I feel we should be able to reasonably expect everything New Leaf offered after all of its updates, plus some new features/twist in full HD from the release. That is why I am so excited. New Leaf came out in 2012, so they have had plenty of time to come up with ideas and content. Even if the game began development as a Wii U title, it couldn't take that much to rework it for Switch.
The total lack of even a screen shot has me very worried. If we don't get a generous helping of info at E3, I will be expecting a postponement...
Hmm... After you get past the first few with hard dates we already knew, here's not too much real information on that list. "Fall 2019" or simply "2019" may as well have question marks after them. Metroid and Bayonetta should say, "Release date... LOL!"
Where is PIKMIN 4!!!!!!!! C'MON Nintendo!
Still havent got other P5s crap. I don't want to play Persona dynasty warrior.
Only care about Pokemon and Zelda remake from these...
Hope we will have some more decent 3d parties too
Does anyone know which of these windows Australia is in? Thanks.
I'm sad to hear the news on sword and shield but I'm getting the game regardless. Still hoping they delay the game more though
