@Superstick They are guaranteed to reach $3 million, though, as far as anything is ever guaranteed. It'll probably reach over $4 million before the campaign ends.
The risk is more how smoothly development will go. That's always a risk with Kickstarter.
@OMC79 Iga worked on SotN, made two 2D Castlevanias for GBA, and three for DS. Not 27. All of those have their own unique systems for weapons/magic/upgrading. The last one (Ecclesia) reworked the progression structure quite a bit. Sure, the basics are the same, but they're not the same game over and over.
@OMC79 I can only speak for myself, but I never said I want the same thing. A new game in the same vein doesn't mean a carbon copy. For example, I'd love a new 2D Metroid, but I'd also love to see them try new things with it, even radically so. Get rid of the obvious space jump and varia suit, and come up with some other abilities. Have Samus start with most of her powers, and center the game around learning to master those, and figuring out all the ways they can be used. Focus on exploration and discovery. Make the world more open from start. They tried the directed approach in Fusion, quite effectively, why not go the opposite way now? Or something completely different. You get the point.
An uninspired copy is not the ideal form of a spiritual successor.
@Butt @Dpullam I would say Symphony of the Night, Aria/Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia are the best ones. SotN is the most ambitious one, for sure.
Aria or Sorrow is available on Virtual Console, at least in Europe. Give it a shot!
@OMC79 Why? If the original creator(s) of a beloved game sets out to do a new game in the same style, with a different name, why is it an "over-glorified hyped clone"? Would you say the same of a returning franchise if it used the original IP?
Great initiative by Jeremy Parish. I had somehow missed there was a Gameboy World video series, despite following most of what he's up to. I've got some watching to do.
@vitalemrecords What do you mean, "they don't do E3"? They had a bunch of announcements in a Direct during E3 2013, and last year they were also streaming non-stop from the E3 floor, with plenty of announcements. You can be sure they have some announcements saved up for E3.
I think strong gameplay is actually a bigger strength of Nintendo than innovation. Too much talk about innovation as the most important aspect scares me a bit.
@allav866 It's very meta. The share value simply goes up because more investors want to buy the shares. In general, that means investors believe the company will soon become more profitable, at least in the short term.
The level design in Toki Tori 2 is so clever. It's like nothing else I've seen in how it takes a simple premise, and simple controls, and creates puzzles of ever increasing complexity and creativity. It really makes you think deeply about the interactions between game objects.
I liked this game a lot when I played it years back. Played for a little bit yesterday and it's just as fun as I remember it, right from the start. The best part is I don't remember all the details like I do with Super Metroid.
@Haiassai There are probably many things that could be done from a gameplay perspective to make it feel like an N64 game. I'm not an expert on those games, because I didn't own an N64, but for example, I think few if any modern games are quite like Mario 64 in structure and level design.
Visually, maybe they'd do best to "glorify" the N64 graphics, kinda like they already did with Shovel Knight and NES. Maybe use a low poly style and similar usage of color and lighting, but use less blurry textures of more consistent resolution. I'm not sure. A bigger N64 enthusiast than me might know better.
@Haiassai I think old 2D games usually are more timeless than 3D ones, because of abstraction. With 3D games, the race for the most realistic graphics started for real, so often an old 3D game will invite comparison with a newer, and better looking one, and thus look bad. A finely crafted, low-res 2D game will always look impressive. At least to those who can appreciate it.
@Spoony_Tech The difference is, here you can promoto a different NNID to get the game for free, by registering it on the Wii U, so you wouldn't have to share an account. It's a bit far fetched and I don't think it will become a problem for Nintendo, but it's still an example of their online systems being a bit clumsy.
But I agree, it's good that they're generous about it.
@Spoony_Tech Yeah, it's a given that you should be able to get it on all your 3DS systems, and this is probably Nintendo's way of making that happen. As a side effect of their particular solution, it's abusable.
@Spoony_Tech There are ways to take advantage of it. If you only own a 3DS, you could register your NNID on a friend's Wii U who has the game and then download the game on your 3DS without paying, if I understand it correctly.
While a complete remake a la Zero Mission would be great, I'd much rather have a proper Metroid 5. A new 2D Metroid, with a new premise and new ideas for power-ups. But please, more like Zero Mission than Fusion. Non-linear exploration instead of heavily directed and verbose story.
@Chicagoway It makes sense to space out the releases in order to sell each game to a higher percentage of the user base, but yes, it's frustrating. If VC was a monthly service instead, it would make more sense to just throw everything out there.
Even though there are no lines, that Link came across as pretty bad acting.
I also think it's trying too hard to stay close to the source material. It feels fan fiction-y and silly. (The shield colors, navi sound effect and "hey!", etc.)
It's still quite impressive, and I'm sure they had fun making it!
@Timppis Or instantly valid. FFVIII is my favorite FF. I can see the flaws people dislike it for, but the sum of all its parts is something very special, imo.
@Captain_Gonru No, he says "when I make a game, I want to start with a new idea from scratch and finish that idea in one game". Of course he would use the name Final Fantasy, since it has recognition. In fact, the first Final Fantasy was his last chance to gain that recognition. He would've been stupid to drop it. (And Square would've never allowed it.)
It sounds too inconsequential to be interesting, in my opinion. Instead of just tweaking numbers, I think it would be more fun if the drones could actually help you discover secret areas in some way, or provide other functions otherwise not possible in the area/segment, related to mining, fighting, etc.
@MasterBlaster I already said I agree this particular article/video makes a very weak connection to video games. What I don't agree with is your general statement that social issues shouldn't be discussed on sites about video games. If an issue is relevant, bring it up! (In this case, though, again, there is no relevance.)
@Quorthon I think we're talking around each others' points. I agree SMB2, specifically, likely wouldn't exist without capitalism in Japan. My point always was that capitalism isn't necessary for innovation.
More generally, I have an alarm that goes off when someone praises capitalism too one-sidedly. It's important to see both the benefits and problems with all things. Most countries with a capitalist foundation regulates trade in different ways, and balances out the free market with social welfare of some kind. Capitalism doesn't ensure a tolerable life for everyone.

Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Gets a Wii U Stretch Goal
@ThomasBW84 I thought that was pretty obvious. It was hinted in the FAQ and you could clearly see the Wii U logo.

Super excited for this. I'm making this stream an event.
Re: Teaser Site For Koji Igarashi's Castlevania Successor Lets You Have Your Say
@DJKeens Harmony of Dissonance isn't too hot either, as far as I remember. But Aria more than makes up for that.
Re: Teaser Site For Koji Igarashi's Castlevania Successor Lets You Have Your Say
@DJKeens Exactly. Circle of the Moon isn't his.

Re: Rumour: Koji Igarashi's Castlevania Successor Could Rise From The Grave This Week
Ecclesia has excellent gameplay and level design, in my opinion, but it's not as much of an exploration game as the other ones.

I hope this is true. I'd chip in

Re: Analyst Thinks Nintendo Is Already Winding Down Wii U Ahead Of Nintendo NX Launch
@jaycardiff I think they're dropping the Wii brand now. At least I hope so. If they want to present a concept as new, they need to give it a new name.
Of course, I do like how they tend to be backwards-compatible, but Wii could play GameCube games even thought it didn't share the name.
Re: Analyst Thinks Nintendo Is Already Winding Down Wii U Ahead Of Nintendo NX Launch

Re: Analyst Thinks Nintendo Is Already Winding Down Wii U Ahead Of Nintendo NX Launch
"The lack of Wii U announcements during the recent Nintendo Direct is also sited as evidence of the Wii U's forthcoming demise"
Or it means they're saving announcements for E3, which is pretty soon.
And I highly doubt Zelda will be delayed until the release of NX. That's probably November 2017.

It's my understanding that most feminists actually do critizise that portrayal of men.
Re: Swedish Newspaper Questions The European Release Of Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson
I don't feel Nintendo should stop games like these, but it sure would be comforting if less people bought them.
And to those saying this game doesn't objectify women, allow me to lol:

A Nintendo Minute debate about Metroid. Zero Mission on VC. I wonder if Nintendo are preparing us for a Metriod announcement...
Could just be my wishful thinking, of course.
