WayForward celebrates it 25th Anniversary this year; the company has established a reputation for high-class first-party games such as the Mighty and Shantae IPs, and has also produced some excellent licensed titles. It's got quite a track record.
The company will likely be celebrating the landmark for much of 2015 - we hope that Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will be part of that this year - and has announced some discounts that are on the way for some of its biggest titles. These naturally include some releases on Wii U and 3DS, with the following details provided so far.
Nintendo 3DS eShop (12th - 19th March in North America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand):
- Mighty Switch Force! - 75% off
- Mighty Switch Force! 2 - 75% off
- Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - 25% off
Nintendo Wii U eShop (12th - 19th March in North America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand):
- Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition - 75% off
- Mighty Switch Force! 2 - 75% off
- Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - 25% off
All of these titles come recommended; are you planning to grab any of these on discount next week?

shantae is till too expensive for me.
already have mighty switch force. no interest in the second game
Have never even tried one of those. Did I miss something? Is it worth picking up all three of these on my wiiU?
Might pick up mighty switch force 2 for that price...
I never liked one of their games
I picked all of them already and I LOVE THEM, especially Shantae. I can't wait to get Half-Genie Hero =D This will rock so much XD
I'll buy Might Switch Force 2 on Wii U for sure.
Maybe Shantae... but I haven't finished the DSiWare release yet so not really in a rush.
I will be getting MSF2. Probably the Wii U version because of the DDP cries
Because of the HD graphics keeps crying
Because I like to play on a big screen.
$15 for Shantae... still too much for me. I'll wait for a better discount.
@erv Shantae is really good. Art, music and gameplay is fantastic, and the game seems pretty long. It's very linear, though.
I love WayForward. Such an impressive developer overall. They made one of my top DS games--Contra 4. This may be a good time to pick up the new Shantae title.
No discount on the GBC and DS Shantae's?
I finally bought an eShop card to buy Pirates Curse yesterday. Glad I held off on buying so far. I don't see these getting much cheaper anytime so I might just grab the Wii U and 3DS versions.
I think I'll grab Shantae then! Question is, for which platform..? I think I'll nab it for the Wii U~
I actually really enjoyed what WayForward managed to do with A Boy And His Blob. I think it is a fine game for the Wii if anyone is looking for something they may have missed. Having enjoyed the original NES title, the Wii version stayed true to the principles of the original very well. I hope they make this game available at a discount so others can give it a try.
Woah, the day it looks like i'll finally have internet back at home (can't wait until i can return there to see if it really works) and finally the Wii U version of MSF2 is getting a discount. (I already got it on the 3DS.)
And since it's such a hefty one i'll definitely get it fingers crossed.
I'll also get Shantae and the Pirate's Purse on the 3DS. I might even think about getting the Wii U version along with it as long as i'll still get Club Nintendo Stars for it. The discount doesn't make the combined price sound too bad.
I will be picking up the Mighty games that are 75% off!
I will probably pick up Shantae if it is 9.99 (50% off).
I got Mighty 1 HD on Wii U, not too bad but not amazing. Nice graphic designs but the level designs felt lacking, just weren't that fun after the first 4 levels.
@outburst
I rather have the gbc version on virtual console
Wow guess i'll pick all these games up then,cause i never tried any of them.
Might pick up MSF2 at that price. It doesn't look as inspired as the first one was, though. I'm definitely on the fence about getting Shantae 3; have been for a while now. Just ever-so-slightly disappointed that Mighty Flip Champs and Mighty Milky Way aren't part of the sale; I have the latter, and was quite pleased with it.
I was THIS close to buying Shantae yesterday, now I will have to wait until the 12th.
Was hoping Shantae would get a discount at some point so yeah, I'll snap that up. Maybe MSF too!
@Warbeard Not even Contra 4 or the only Aliens game worth playing?
My three favourite games on the eShop. I've already got four of them, but this is a great opportunity to get the Wii U ports of the MSF games too.
@andrew20
But it's on 3DS' GBC VC?
Absolute arse munchers. I just bought Mighty Switch Force 1&2 last week. Great games though.
Got Mighty Switch Force on Wii U so at 75% off I'll be picking up the sequel and both on the 3DS. As for Shantae, well I'll wait and see the exact price before making a decision.
@erv the first mighty switch force is excellent. The second on is just ok.
I'll pick up MSF 2 since it's so cheap (already have MSF HD) & maybe Shantae on Wii U if it's cheap enough.
Both Mighty Switch Force's at that price for Wii U have been waiting for these to get a discount & pickup the 2nd one for 3DS as i already own the first one.
Happy birthday WayForward and thanks for the discounts, hopefully a Chip 'N Dale: Rescue Rangers remake/remastered is on your next list of project.
I already have everything else on the list but I'll pick up the Wii U version of Mighty Switch Force 2.
I'm highly likely to get Mighty Switch Force on my 2DS.
Gonna grab Mighty Flip Champs DX for free on PSP and might consider Mighty Switch Force 2.
Can't decide between 3DS and Wii U though. HD would be really nice, but I like portables more (even laughably weak ones like 3DS). Though it might be better to get the Wii U version so it'll be available for other people to play in my house.
Already have all those games on my 3DS, but I might get MSF on the Wii U.
@hiptanaka The main story is certainly linear, but if you're going for 100% there's a lot of (enjoyable) backtracking and exploration to be done.
Shame Mighty Flip Champs DX isn't FREE on 3DS.
Crap I bought the two switch force games a couple of weeks too early for the 3ds oh well at least there great games
Surprised that Ducktales Remasteted isn't part of the sale.
With this sale I am going to pick up Switch Force 2 again on my Wii U (already have the 3DS version)
I picked up the Shantae game and will say it's well worth the price. Controls & gameplay mechanics are perfect. I could have used a more difficult version, but still a great game.
I own Shantae on both systems. I might pick up MS on Wii U, though. The HD graphics are nice.
I've heard great things about MSF:HD, but the gameplay just looks boring to me. Then again, SteamWorld Dig looked similarly bland and I ended up loving it.
Shantae's gameplay looks right up my alley but I refuse to buy games with girls wearing skimpy clothing.
@outburst
I meant why was it not on the sale
So, at the price of one MSF game, I get all four with two on each console? What a bargain! Count me in!
Bit gutted I got MSF1&2 when I did, because I only played the first one for about an hour. (Side thought: why is MSF2 slightly cheaper than MSF?)
Coulda saved some dosh there.
I'd like to get Shantae but at 25% off, it's still too pricey.
@Tasuki
I am sorry about the false reporting on your account it was my anger and it got out of control.
I just want apologize for what I did.
and why was the Shantae gbc games put on the sale and their other virtual console games
@CharlyDunst
Love Shantae too. Great game!!
Nice boobs, by the way.
@retro_player_22
and if they have any more virtual console games from game boy, game boy color, and game gear put them on
BTW, for those who don't know, WayForward did the remake of A Boy and His Blob on Wii and it is FANTASTIC. It's a more slow-paced puzzle platformer, but once you get into the groove, it is a really tremendously well-designed and challenging game.
I don't know if the original GBC Shantae is going to make this list eventually, but I JUST bought the original Shantae. Fortunately, it's was only $5, but still, Imma be mad if it goes on discount (as it likely will). The good news for me is, I passed the first time around on the discount of Shantae:atPC BECAUSE I wanted to play the original Shantae, and now I will have a 25% discount. Interesting times, these discount days...
I wonder if Sigma Star Saga will make the cut? Since Nintendo's putting all these GBA games on Wii U, and it's a WayForward game, you gotta wonder. Although I never hear anyone talking about the game...
I'll get MSF2. I own the first one and like it well enough that 75% off for the sequel seems like a no-brainer.
I'd consider Shantae, but I haven't tried the first one yet. I'm surprised it's not part of the deal. It seems like Game Boy/Color games rarely ever go on sale.
I like WayForward's work on their games that I've played: MSF, GBC Shantae, MSF2, Ducktales Remastered. I might bite on SAtPC, but it is a little fan-servicy/embarrassing, & I feel similar to SketchTurner(47). One could say it's a little more fan-servicy, than MSF.
That's cool, but I already bought everything. ;_;
I truly recommend everyone get mighty switch force games at those prices. especially the HD version
@andrew20 Ok not sure what you mean by false reporting but its all good.
I may double dip to get the 3DS version of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. They make great games. I hope A Boy and His Blob becomes a Wii Download Title, but... not holding my breath for that one.
@Tasuki
that what the admins. said but I glad you accepted the apology
and well need to move on
@umegames
I deifniltey second that. Mightly Switch Force HD is one of my favorite eshop titles (well, and it'd be good on any system). And at that price it's a steal.
I would buy some of these myself...but I already own them all O_O. Haha. $15 is a little spendy, but IMO it's better than Shovel Knight at the shame price, so why not? (Yes I have my flame shield ready :3)
Mighty Switch Ford 1 and 2 for me. It's basically less than $4 for both games. Who could pass that up?
What exactly is the difference between mighty switch force and hyper drive edition
This sale is incredible! I'm been holding out on MSF2 for solo long, I'm gonna probably double dip and get it for Wii U and 3DS. Might even get HD edition. How different are the hyper drive levels than the standard game?
Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition is one of my favorite downloadable game on WiiU. Lot of levels, big challenge (took me 20 hours to get all the par times), beautiful sprites and smart level design. Strongly recommend it
Does that include the Euro discount for already owning 1 version of Shantae and the Pirate's Curse? If so, that would mean getting the 2nd version for pretty cheap....
3 bucks for mighty 1 and 2? Count me in!!!
I might get Shantae, already got both Mighty Switch Force games.
wow! 75% off!!
Must stop ]self from double dipping with Shantae.....
Funny I've been waiting for a mighty switchforce sale so I could pick up Mighty Switchforce 2. At 75% off I'm definitely buying and will still have enough for outrun 3d when that hits on the same day of the sale
@sinalefa hahaha, great post
I have Mighty Switch Force 2 on 3DS, time to try the first one on glorious HD on wiiu (tough i like pixel art better, kkk)
Hmm, at that price I may buy the first MSF. Not sure about Shantae though, if it were 50% off then I'd go for it.
Good for them! They are an amazing company and I support all their games. Too bad I already own all of these and can't benefit from the discount. Can't wait for Half Genie Hero, though!
With this discount going on, I'm tempted to purchase Shantae and the Pirate's Curse. I was personally planning on testing out the Shantae series with the release of Shantae: Half Genie Hero, but if this is on offer, that might be reason enough to jump into the series with Pirate's Curse.
Quick question for anyone who has played it, how long would you say Shantae and the Pirate's Curse is? If I do purchase it, I'm considering doing a playthrough of it for my channel, but as I'm trying to focus on shorter games I'd prefer to know a rough estimation of the game's length before I go ahead with it.
Whilst I don't think that's a great discount for Shantae (should've been 50% off), I'll bite at that price. Mostly because I want it on Wii U and the Premium promotion for earning points towards £5 vouchers end on April 1st. I also really enjoyed the first 2 games so hopefully I'll like the third too. I'll also grab MSF2 on Wii U as well, as I had a lot of fun with the 3DS version...especially the vocal version of the theme tune you unlock at the end
@Souldin - many people took 8-10 hours for their first playthrough of Pirate's Curse, but once Pirate Mode is unlocked you can speed run it in 1-2 hours.
@MetalKingShield Ah, this Pirate Mode must be what gave me the impression that it was a short game, or at the very least could be completed quickly.
Admittedly, 8-10 hours is also a decent length for a recorded playthrough, but not quite as short as what I'm currently aiming for. I might still consider purchasing it to do a playthrough on later in the year... though if I'm going to consider waiting that long, I might as well consider going with Half Genie Hero instead.
In any case, thank you very much for informing me of this, I appreciate it.
the Premium promotion for earning points towards £5 vouchers end on April 1st.
That already ended in January. Earning stars on the Club are set to end soon.
@Souldin - Yes, Pirate Mode gives you all the abilities from the outset, so you can skip enormous portions of the game (especially the dungeons). It's no exaggeration to say that, playing this way, you just don't get the full experience (although it's great/essential for speed runs).
Although I say 8-10 hours, that includes time spent working everything out. When you know what to do, a normal (non-Pirate Mode) playthrough is more like 4-5 hours.
I downloaded Shantae and the pirates curse. So far I like it, and it looks very sweet. But its also very lineair and pretty easy so far (I have only finished the first island so far).
I do hope though that they will do something experimental again someday. The "Mighty" games where very unique!
As for the Shantae series: I am still not that far in the first one, but I reached the endboss in Risky's revenge recently (there are still some collectables to be found though). Very hard boss!
