Re: Review: Inside (Switch eShop)

@Cobalt I have a Steam account, but I prefer to play in front of the TV, and that's more cumbersome with Steam, as I don't have a computer hooked up all the time.

@Cobalt While it can be annoying, I don't think it's unconventional for re-releases on new platforms to bump the price? The cycle begins again, after all. First you sell to people willing to pay for new games, then you sell to people who only buy on sales.

Re: Review: Inside (Switch eShop)

@Cobalt Funny. I have the opposite problem. The other week I had an urge to play Portal, a game that I missed when it was new. I was disappointed to find out neither it nor the sequel are on the PS4 store, despite being so highly praised. The more old greats to be re-released, the better.

Re: The Virtual Console Isn't Coming To Switch, Nintendo Confirms

The key is in the second quote: "There are a variety of ways in which classic games from Nintendo and other publishers are made available on Nintendo Switch". Publishers have taken control of the monetization and marketing of their old games. And curation and added value are probably more successful strategies than an extensive library. (Of games people say are too expensive.) Capcom has Mega Man Legacy Collection, Disney Afternoon Collection, etc. Nintendo's answer is the Switch Online thing.

@brandonbwii Maybe. But the review should be telling me that, not you. Also, those games seem different enough that I'm not sure anyone who likes Elliot Quest would like The Mummy: Demastered, or vice versa.

"...there are better alternatives in the genre that you could try first."

I always find it frustrating when reviews say this without giving examples. Pointing to some other reviews of similar games would be nice.

@rushiosan Kids wouldn’t remember that, though...

More seriously, the game is a lot more interesting than that. It has a pretty complex and versatile move set, where you can dodge roll, shoot arrows into walls and use as platforms, etc, and the level design is really good. The levels I’ve played (especially the first one) are like puzzles you need to figure out, and on successive plays, a dance that you get better at as the controls become more natural.

Re: Nintendo Publishes New Interview on the Making of Super Metroid

Samus Returns doesn't quite tick all the boxes for me so far. The core gameplay is great, but the locations are a bit non-distinct and repetitive at times, and I don't really care for fighting the same boss over and over (nor did I in M2 or AM2R). I also feel there should be more enemies that don't charge. I never quite get the feeling of exploring a strange place, as every critter is seemingly out to get me. Still enjoying it, but not at the level of Super/Fusion/Zero Mission.

Re: Lichtspeer Developer Suggests That Nintendo Has Switch Achievements in the Works

hiptanaka

@thedicemaster Exactly. I think it would be pretty cool if there was an OS level API that the developer could use for exporting some of the game data in a less rigid way. Then the game could have well integrated challenges and stuff like that, but also let the OS know about some of the player's progress. Different games could have different ways of presenting progress and "achievements". I don't know exactly how it would work, but something like that would be a lot more fun than the current achievements/trophies, imo.
