Nintendo has given us a massive helping of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 info during today's Nintendo Direct broadcast, including the final release date, which is December 1st.
During the broadcast, much information was dished out on the game's story and combat system, which revolves around "Drivers" and their summoned helpers, known as "Blades".
The title will launch alongside a special edition which comes with extra goodies, including a music CD, artbook and metal case. There will also be a specially-themed Xenoblade Chronicles Switch Pro Controller.

Looking forward to this !
Some people still won't believe it's coming this year, will they?
This is my most anticipated game, even more than Odyssey.
I know @rjejr is happy about this because we finally have a release date and it's actually this year. Great news!
I'm glad to hear it's coming this year, I always had a feeling it would get an early December release date. This isn't on my priority list but I'll probably pick it up eventually.
Well, color me surprised. I didn't think they would get this one out before the end of the year. Looks great, but they talked about it way too much if you ask me.
I really like how this one is shaping up. The world it takes place in is quite intriguing, and the combat system looks rewarding (yet has a learning curve).
I need that special edition and I also loved the look of the Xenoblade Pro Controller. Oh dear.
Enjoyed this part a lot as the titan who explained it was fun to listen too
The game looks more polished. It's going to be special.
This trumps Mario Odyssey for me. The Hype is real!!!
It's looking great. I have the first Xenoblade somewhere, so I'd like to play that before considering getting this.
@Dakt In all fairness you didn't have to watch that section. Why complain about what you are participating in?
Day 1 special edition buy
Gotta get that sweet controller though!
Wow, this game looks awful. The trailer was so long and boring, and the characters all seem so obnoxious.
I didn't enjoy xcx very much, found the combat system quite dull. I hadn't paid this any attention prior to today but it almost has me convinced after that trailer. However I'll be prioritising Fire Emblem Warriors and Skyrim first.
Yep, definitely most anticipated game of the year - yes, even moreso than Odyssey.
So good! And it's coming this year! Best part of the Direct
@QwertyQwerty
Yeah that faction part felt weird. It felt like I was watching a trailer for a MMORPG. I haven't played a Xenoblade game before but I would rather be surprised by different cities and places in the world.
There go a couple hundred hours of my life.
In addition to the Xenoblade controller and the limited edition pack, Nintendo will be offering a 3 year university course to explain the battle system and menu system.
Can I justify a collectors edition AND a 3rd pro controller? (to go with my 3 sets of Joy Cons)
Probably not, but then again, it is quite near to Xmas....
The game looks great, but damn, that trailer from the Direct with the monster doing the explanation voiceover was the dullest thing I've ever had to sit through.
I felt like I was being read a bedtime story by Grandpa Tortoise.
Already locked in the special edition! It's up at BestBuy now.
And oh my... look at this beauty!!!
I'll be getting the pro controller. I do hope that this is a worldwide release so I can flip the game to Japanese... really not feeling the voice acting.
This game keeps getting better looking. Not a fan of the Pro Controller design however.
The Internet said it would be delayed...?
@JaxonH Damnit the UK are super slow on pre order stuff. I really want to pre order both the CE and the pro pad but nope, nothing. Probs wont even get to pre order until mid november grrr
@Marshi
The Pro Controller hasn't gone live yet but, ya know you can always import from Amazon or have a contact in the US order for you at BestBuy with 20% off GCU discount (and you could in return order stuff from the EU for them). I do a lot of ordering for my friend on this site who lives in Costa Rica. I have to send it to their package forwarder in Florida but my 20% discount kind of evens out with the forwarder fees.
Just throwing that out there as an idea. I imported MHXX from Japan, and have One Piece physical version and SNES Classic coming in from Amazon UK. Importing with region free is great!
More lovely pics
@QwertyQwerty You actively search for info on upcoming games with the high chance of possible spoilers. Ya, have no one to blame but yourselves.
@QwertyQwerty I think I just misunderstood the original post. I took it as they are showing too much of the world like people are complaining about Odyssey. My point to that is don't watch things on it then, it's that simple. My apologies for the misunderstanding
@JaxonH is the special edition up for preorder.
Day one purchase for me!
Yes Yes and Yes . DAY ONE MY NINTENDO SWITCH IS READY..
Looked really neat, but I did find the explanation of the different character types and classes a bit confusing. Mind you, I was having a bit of Guinness at the time and probably wasn't focused enough.
Not a huge JRPG fan but that trailer has got me really interested.
For once, a Direct that didn't make me cringe
@Camilla
Thank you. But actually, I already posted that up around comment #34 (actually ordered the second it went live during the Direct) 😄
Just waiting on Pro Controller now.
Haven't gotten a pro controller yet. This will be the one I get (unless there is a Odyssey or Zelda one)
Well... I can swap Pyra with someone else during Battle.
This was the best thing in the direct for me. December can't come fast enough.
Not my type of game, I fear. Never tried Chronicles or X. Maybe someday.
Massive year for the Switch. Just massive. Definitely checking this out, though I'm new to Xenoblade.
I'll be the first to say it here: we just wanted Shulk. Good thing Their names won't be forgotten (insert Lenny face here).
My wallet will be busy this holiday season for sure now.
This keep getting better!!!
@QwertyQwerty Just... don't watch the trailers? For example, I haven't seen any footage of Mario Odyssey since the original reveal, and the hype is immense for me.
The characters don't look like they fit into the game world, its very bizarre to me lol
@QwertyQwerty This isn't a trailer, it is an overview of the game.
I never had a lot of time into the others, are these any good?
It looks like Game of the Year material to me. Unfortunately, it will be snubbed of any such awards just because it will be released in the month of December. The various awards publications really need to fix that glitch in their voting systems.
@Steelhead Well, I think the combat system in the original "Xenoblade Chronicles" is better, and this game appears to be a subtle evolution of that game's combat system over the one found in XCX. It's more streamlined and doesn't rely too much on micromanagement of equipment, arts, and skills.
The original game also doesn't involve encounters with incredibly huge beasts designed for Skell combat but are very awkward to face when fighting on foot in XCX. I mean, many monsters and the bosses in XC1 are still several times your size, but (with the exception of one of the bosses that uses special combat rules), they're still small enough to avoid that kind of issue.
I'm glad that Monolith recognized the faults they introduced with the overly complicated system they introduced in XCX and went back to basics, even streamlining it even more now that we no longer need to scroll through all of our character's arts in a long line before activating them.
Mrs.Doubtfire is a titan?
