@AtlanteanMan Kids in game shops who have birthday money to spend but don't want a physical edition? Maybe isn't an issue for you or I, but a big part of the Nintendo demographic is children who don't have debit/credit cards I suppose. That and gifting are the only instances I can really think of though where those cards would be put to any use.
The bigger loss is the sale prices from sites like ShopTo for the codes.
Just because Minish Cap is in the photo on the article, but I'd love to play through that again on a modern handheld (Switch). A GBA service comparable to the NES and SNES ones currently available with the Switch online service would be my preference over N64 right now!
@ryancraddock When do you guys get your review copy/copies for something like this? Given the structure of the game surely it's only fair you have a couple of weeks to play it before putting out a review and score?
@mariomaster96 @BANJO I have a second profile but with no Nintendo Account linked to it, it doesn't show your play time or anything so it just annoys me. I made sure to take a few screenshots of the menu screens showing all my korok seeds etc. just in case I never get back to that level again. Honestly though last night playing it again from scratch was just amazing. I don't have an emotional connection to many games but it's just so...comfortable, and nice and feels like home. And I sound like a maniac. Goodbye.
I don't feel like Bayonetta 3 is a big enough release to see the console through Christmas, particularly with Sony and Microsoft launching new console around the same time. Nintendo are gonna need Bayo, a Mario title, Metroid Trilogy and a Pokemon remake I'd say!
Bit of a crass question, but would we say the creator of this game is making £1 clear profit per game sold? Just trying to work out if it's worth quitting my job and making the MMORPG Brexit game I've been planning.
Very disappointing. Its probably an announcement that they're backtracking and putting the missing pokemon back in the dex. Still, it will take a hell of a lot more than that to make Sword/Shield decent games. I can't get over the disappointment with those two - even after all the negative press I kept my hopes up stupidly. 20 year old game repackaged.
@JaxonH Casey DeFreitas is a massive Pokemon fan. Does that make her the right or wrong person to review it? I dunno, but I imagine it inflates the score somewhat.
I hate review bombing in general but think it's merited here and the criticisms of it seem justified to me. Also, is it even review bombing if it's genuine opinions?
Uness they're complete fools, I reckon we'll be seeing all these Pokemon in the end product. Jeez I hope so, for the sake of comments sections all across the net.
@Madder128 I don't want to be down on the console too much because as I said it had some great games and some good ideas!
At first thought though...
It's unique selling point wasn't strong enough from the get-go. More of a stepping stone to the Switch.
The game pad felt cheap (probably because it was).
It was severely under-powered for a fairly traditional home console. Releasing in 2012 with the Xbox One and PS4 right around the corner.
It had a mere 32GB of internal storage MAX, with the base model having a shocking 8GB.
It had the worst name for a console ever - possibly a marketing issue if you want to characterize it that way but if you think that the marketing was the only issue with the Wii U then I think you're being more than a little biased.
It refused to let go of all that Wii Mii stuff that the Switch has thankfully dropped for the most part.
Wii controller compatibility was relied on too much. You might see this as a bonus if you had a Wii but in my eyes it was like Nintendo doubling down on a concept that isolated some "serious gamers" from getting involved in the Wii to begin with.
It was apparently difficult to develop for, for technical reasons I don't have the expertise to comment on too much. This meant 3rd party developers didn't want to put in the time to port games since the install base was so small, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze so to speak. So the console base was never going to grow at the rate of the Switch for example.
The handheld play was unreliable unless just a few feet away from the console in my home.
The online infrastructure was typically terrible
I have positive things to say about the console as well if anyone wants to hear those... if not, then happy to discuss the above of course.
@Madder128 I think the Wii U was horrendously marketed, but it was also pretty flawed as a console. I don't reckon anything could have saved it in all honesty (even if it did have some cracking games!)
I mean, unless she's a moron she has typed those very words into Google (spelling mistake or not), and been provided with the answer. Who tweets before they google? Nobody.
Pretending not to know what something is just to act like you're above it is pish patter. Oh and I can't stick Fortnite - this is a dig at Gaga, not a defence of Fortnite
I don't know how Ys VIII has made it onto this list to be honest. I put in about 8 hours, really tried my best to enjoy but it's just not for me at all. I'm not a big graphics person but this is really horrible to look at on Switch and the gameplay not to my taste. I was looking forward to this so much and was massively let down when I shelled out the £50 for it recently.
@Ooccoo_Jr Haven't noticed any frame rate issues other than a little bit of jitter in cutscenes.
Visually though... honestly, I was a little taken aback at just how bad it looked. I don't wanna say that but it is the truth. It took a little getting used to and I'm not fully over the hurdle but the fact I still couldn't put it down last night speaks volumes I suppose! 100% best played in handheld also. I put it on the TV just to check it out and it just looks awful.
I don't want to be overly negative as I do love it, but I went into it with my expectations about the visuals fully tempered and was still a bit disappointed by how it looked.
I did wonder what this was about, so that's that answered I suppose. I chose not to simulate a save, since I didn't play Witcher 2 I thought it might just confuse matters. Put in like 5 hours last night so won't be going back to change. Maybe next time through.
@Auenegheps It really isn't great eh! I expected better. It's a nightmare for Tetris 99 at least. Other than that though (and the absence of a headphone port) it is a quality piece of kit.
Excellent news! I have never bought a single loot crate in my life and had no intention of starting, so Psyonix might actually get a few quid out of me this way.
It would be interesting to know how successful (or unsuccessful) this change is in terms of revenue for Psyonix over the next year or so although I don't imagine we'll be privy to those figures.
@6ch6ris6 Yeah but you can't play Mario Kart online on PC or Smash Bros. They/we pay for it because it's the only way. Victims of the system for sure but that's just the way of it.
Pokemon is just getting ridiculous tbh. Why add 150 new Pokemon every generation when it's so unsustainable that they now can't have all of them in the same game, and need to resort to utterly stupit ideas like this. There was always going to be a backlash when the inevitable game came around where they couldn't include everything. So they have to spend so much resource making animations, battle characteristics, balancing stats etc. for the every growing number of Pokemon that they're unable to innovate.
I know Pokemon will go on for a long time to come but if they don't change up their formula for the next iteration then it's a hard pass for me until they do. Switch was the prime opportunity to do this, but... opportunity missed.

Re: UK Charts: 3DS Game Bravely Second: End Layer Makes A Surprise Leap To Second Place
Just saw this over on PushSquare and was baffled! So it was on sale for £3 in Argos on a clearance thing, but how many can they possibly have sold!
Physical charts are really skewed from reality these days in my opinion.
Re: Soapbox: I’m Super Excited About The Future Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons
For me I'd actually like an expansion to the size of the Island. Particularly if farming is going to become a thing going forward.
How does an island get bigger? Well... umm... earthquake, or something...

Last night I deleted my 250 hour, 100%, 900 korok seed, upgraded armor save and started again in preparation for BotW2. It's still so beautiful.
