Re: Nintendo Scraps The Sale Of Digital Game Download Codes At European Retailers

frabbit

@AtlanteanMan Kids in game shops who have birthday money to spend but don't want a physical edition? Maybe isn't an issue for you or I, but a big part of the Nintendo demographic is children who don't have debit/credit cards I suppose. That and gifting are the only instances I can really think of though where those cards would be put to any use.

The bigger loss is the sale prices from sites like ShopTo for the codes.

@mariomaster96 @BANJO I have a second profile but with no Nintendo Account linked to it, it doesn't show your play time or anything so it just annoys me. I made sure to take a few screenshots of the menu screens showing all my korok seeds etc. just in case I never get back to that level again. Honestly though last night playing it again from scratch was just amazing. I don't have an emotional connection to many games but it's just so...comfortable, and nice and feels like home. And I sound like a maniac. Goodbye.

Re: Pokémon Direct To Air Thursday, 9th January

Very disappointing. Its probably an announcement that they're backtracking and putting the missing pokemon back in the dex. Still, it will take a hell of a lot more than that to make Sword/Shield decent games. I can't get over the disappointment with those two - even after all the negative press I kept my hopes up stupidly. 20 year old game repackaged.

Re: What Year Is It? Nintendo's Wii U Is Getting A New Game Today

frabbit

@Madder128 I don't want to be down on the console too much because as I said it had some great games and some good ideas!

At first thought though...

  • It's unique selling point wasn't strong enough from the get-go. More of a stepping stone to the Switch.
  • The game pad felt cheap (probably because it was).
  • It was severely under-powered for a fairly traditional home console. Releasing in 2012 with the Xbox One and PS4 right around the corner.
  • It had a mere 32GB of internal storage MAX, with the base model having a shocking 8GB.
  • It had the worst name for a console ever - possibly a marketing issue if you want to characterize it that way but if you think that the marketing was the only issue with the Wii U then I think you're being more than a little biased.
  • It refused to let go of all that Wii Mii stuff that the Switch has thankfully dropped for the most part.
  • Wii controller compatibility was relied on too much. You might see this as a bonus if you had a Wii but in my eyes it was like Nintendo doubling down on a concept that isolated some "serious gamers" from getting involved in the Wii to begin with.
  • It was apparently difficult to develop for, for technical reasons I don't have the expertise to comment on too much. This meant 3rd party developers didn't want to put in the time to port games since the install base was so small, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze so to speak. So the console base was never going to grow at the rate of the Switch for example.
  • The handheld play was unreliable unless just a few feet away from the console in my home.
  • The online infrastructure was typically terrible

I have positive things to say about the console as well if anyone wants to hear those... if not, then happy to discuss the above of course.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Action-RPGs

I don't know how Ys VIII has made it onto this list to be honest. I put in about 8 hours, really tried my best to enjoy but it's just not for me at all. I'm not a big graphics person but this is really horrible to look at on Switch and the gameplay not to my taste. I was looking forward to this so much and was massively let down when I shelled out the £50 for it recently.

Re: Guide: Should I Simulate Witcher 2 Save In Witcher 3 For Nintendo Switch?

frabbit

@Ooccoo_Jr Haven't noticed any frame rate issues other than a little bit of jitter in cutscenes.

Visually though... honestly, I was a little taken aback at just how bad it looked. I don't wanna say that but it is the truth. It took a little getting used to and I'm not fully over the hurdle but the fact I still couldn't put it down last night speaks volumes I suppose! 100% best played in handheld also. I put it on the TV just to check it out and it just looks awful.

I don't want to be overly negative as I do love it, but I went into it with my expectations about the visuals fully tempered and was still a bit disappointed by how it looked.

Re: Rocket League Ditches Randomised Loot Boxes In Favour Of New 'Blueprint' System

Excellent news! I have never bought a single loot crate in my life and had no intention of starting, so Psyonix might actually get a few quid out of me this way.

It would be interesting to know how successful (or unsuccessful) this change is in terms of revenue for Psyonix over the next year or so although I don't imagine we'll be privy to those figures.

Re: Pokémon Sword & Shield Will Feature A Pokémon You Can Drink

frabbit

Pokemon is just getting ridiculous tbh. Why add 150 new Pokemon every generation when it's so unsustainable that they now can't have all of them in the same game, and need to resort to utterly stupit ideas like this. There was always going to be a backlash when the inevitable game came around where they couldn't include everything. So they have to spend so much resource making animations, battle characteristics, balancing stats etc. for the every growing number of Pokemon that they're unable to innovate.

I know Pokemon will go on for a long time to come but if they don't change up their formula for the next iteration then it's a hard pass for me until they do. Switch was the prime opportunity to do this, but... opportunity missed.
