Update 2 (Thu 27th Aug, 2020 17:00 BST): Well, that didn't take long! Warframe's Heart of Deimos update is now live on Nintendo Switch. Make sure your game's up to date and get stuck in!
Update 1 (Wed 26th Aug, 2020 09:45 BST): Warframe's next open-world expansion, Heart of Deimos, has now launched for PC, PS4 and Xbox One as promised. The Switch version, which should have launched simultaneously with other platforms, will now release "later this week". Digital Extremes says that the Switch version is still in the certification process, hence the slight delay.
Original Article (Mon 3rd Aug, 2020 14:30 BST): To wrap up this year's TennoCon event, Warframe publisher Digital Extremes announced a brand new open-world expansion for the game called Heart of Deimos.
Said to "propel Warframe into a completely new era", the new update introduces a Cinematic New Player Introduction; a newly revealed Helminth Chrysalis System, which lets you transfer abilities between Warframes; pilotable mechs; new places to explore and more. The team shared just over 30 minutes of gameplay during the event, which you can rewatch above.
Here's some PR to tell you all about this new open world:
Explore The Open World Expansion, Heart of Deimos
Heart of Deimos follows Digital Extremes’ two previous open worlds, Plains of Eidolon and Fortuna, with a new design twist, connecting an open world on its surface to a procedurally generated tileset underground.
On the moon surface, players will find themselves thrust into the sticky, pulsing, and terrifying hivemind landscape of the Infested faction, where nearly everything feels alive and connected. Giant towering wyrms, silhouetted against the darkened red sky, battle for control over night and day, while on the ground bulbous pods burst open with Entrati NPCs consumed and transformed by the Infested hive mind or a cadre of belligerent Infested creatures, ready to attack.
Underground, a series of procedurally generated networked tunnels and vertical spaces lead players to further explore the secret origins of the Infested and the twisted Entrati experiments. One remnant from the Entrati’s past works are giant, powerful ‘combat mechs’. These giant war machines might have served multiple purposes in the past but will play a key to players’ survival against a relentless enemy on their home planet. Players will fight against and in them!
For the first time for any of the game's major updates, the Heart of Deimos expansion will be launching simultaneously across all platforms. This means that Switch owners will be able to get stuck in from 25th August, alongside their friends on PC, PS4 and Xbox.

This looks fun, I’m looking forward for this being an entry point into playing warframe for me.
I really like Warframe but it feels overwhelming in terms of how much there is in the game. I never felt like I understood everything.
@Pablo17 100% agree with you there. I recently re-downloaded it with the intention of trying to get involved. Watched a few youtube videos, thought I was all set to go. Dived back in and... just as overwhelmed as I was the first time. Bought AC: Black Flag, haven't looked back haha.
I would like to get into it at some point. And this sounds like a good opportunity. But I am also aware of people saying all the time how hard it is to fully understand.
As somebody who gave up on XCOM2 pretty early, I wish the new expansion would have a "idiot" mode coming with it. For new players that want to keep it casual.
It really is the best for free to play on Switch, considering the content there and still being added. I wish cross save with PC would come along, though.
@Pablo17 I've played it across 2 systems now, over about 3 years. I still have no dang clue what's up. But its dang fun, I got a couple pets, and 3 frames!!!
one of the few free online games that has frequent update and high quality
@theabstractart I'd be cautious using this as an entry point. The open world areas are generally mid-level areas where if you're under equiped you'll quickly fall to the more powerful enemies. Current open world regions recommend players be at least level 15 with appropriate equips to survive.
Does this mean that console launch has aligned with pc launch? Nice
@Yorumi What country is that? What did they do or say?
@Pablo17 Me neither, but i'm still able to play it without all the the stuff you are meant to be doing.
Thx to this article, im redownloading it again, i was so sick of grinding and not having time for other games, i was pretty addicted to warframe
Crazy content for a F2P title. Re-downloaded since I recently got myself a 512GB microSD, so I’ll definitely give this expansion a spin.
Love this game for a while but further you are in, it can get very overwhelming. The amount of grinding can also get repetitive very fast. Not to mention the free to play nature will creeps in before too long (I have no real issue with that as it is only fair you pay if enjoy the game.)
@Yorumi Thanks for the info.
“They’re black first and their goals come before they’ll care about anyone else.”
To be fair we ARE minorities.
@Yorumi "I know some people are going to stop reading right there and instantly conclude I'm some sort of horrible white supremacist racist."
boy, you just lost a great opportunity to stop writing right here!
please stay away from Warframe, and Nintendo for the matter.
get an Xbox, buy "Call of Dooty" and enjoy shooting Arab NPCs in the comfort of our great country -_-
Looking forward to this after a couple of months away. 🥳
Just wish there was a way for my "dog" not to be unhappy after a break, without putting it in hiatus. It truly makes me feel like not wanting to return as often as I normally would.
#firstworldproblems 😬
... also damn impressive technical achievement on the Switch and something everybody should check out, at least for that ❤️
@Yorumi Sure. I’d actually had preferred your comment without the preamble. Just spit out your opinion 😂
@Yorumi You're a brave soul.
@Wilforce No he's not.
@JimmySpades So what do you call it when you speak the truth no one wants to hear?
On an unrelated note Warframe's new content looks pretty good xD
@nagash well said my dude
@Yorumi Ugh... This is a videogame website, keep your racist politics out of here.
@Wilforce Level 15? By that, do you mean Rank? I was Rank 7, by the time I got used to the first two open worlds, and right now I'm still only Rank 10.
Your strength really comes from an understanding of the stats of your Warframe and weapons, and how strong you can make them using mods, and formas. A shotgun that can do 10,000 damage per round for example will have lvl50 enemies taken out, no problem.
The most annoying thing for me really is how much research I had to do to understand all this myself, but thankfully the game's been receiving updates that have only been making this easier, such as adding a Q/A section to the rather INSANELY functional chatbox, while the devs make it a point to help the community keep their wiki site as up to date as possible.
@Wilforce First of all, we'll leave to the side the question of whether what Yorumi said is true or not. But the conditions in which he said it aren't brave in the least. An anonymous name with an anonymous avatar that can suffer no real consequences, and no consequences of any kind other than being banned at a fan site, needs no bravery to say anything.
And then there's your absurdity that nobody wants to hear it. Gamers are conservative to the point of being reactionary. They are very vocal about what they believe, and not only do they not listen to anything else, they shout it down and drown it out. They are not cowering in fear of the consequences of speaking up; they are not persecuted for honest beliefs, no matter how many narratives they spin that they are, or how often they repeat them. Yorumi is not speaking truth to power, he is preaching to the choir, and there is nothing brave about that.
@TheVGMLover You're talking about your overall level. I'm talking about your Warframe's level. You need the Warframe's level to be high enough to equip higher level damage mods, which if you just start the game and aim straight for the open world areas then you'll be under-leveled.
@Wilforce If you find the right missions, you can reach Rank 30 on your Warframe, AND weapons, within an hour.
That's not difficult at all compared to modding them. Some really good mods, you're not gonna know even exist or where to find 'em without visiting the wiki, and even then most of the time, it's chance as to whether or not you'll get them. On top o' that, you also have to upgrade those mods to get the most out of 'em using endo, which is not easy to grind for a lot of, unless you're lucky.
And that STILL only covers HALF of upgrading your Warframe. Getting Rank 30 is just the beginning, and won't be enough to prepare you for the open world, alone.
Could be next year for all I personally care.😅 Despite the hundreds of hours poured in, I'm still nowhere past Saturn and finding plenty to do for a leisurely player I am. Mostly doing what Nightwave stuff I can manage.
At 455 hours this is my most played game on Switch.
I'm MR11 but still haven't cleared the star chart because NO ONE wants to do interception.
@Swiftstorm in the Tenno Lab in the Dojo look up Nutrio Incubator Upgrade Segment.
It will remove DNA destabilizing.
@Zimon OHO awesome... Hope I can make it then. Thanks!
Yea, saw the delay coming. Nintendo delayed the cert super-long last time their filesize exceeded the 25 gb level too. Not saying it directly has anything to do with it, but it might.
@Zimon certain warframes like Gara are really good for solo'ing interception. The AI is buggy in that putting up a glass barrier around the two consoles of first point you capture will have them running against the barrier while you take all the other consoles. An easy (if somewhat cheap) way to stall them out long enough to win. Option B is getting a decently strong warframe and going from one capture zone to the next so you are capturing the zones faster than they can take them back.
Yawn...........if only this wasn’t so dull
@JimmySpades I don't know about that one chief. Plenty of people are afraid of voicing their opinion online even anonymously out of fear of either being called a bigot or something close to that. There's also the fear of making their side look bad. Either way, it feels awful.
I don't know what he wrote that riled this comment section so hard, but it seems to be deleted now.
Warframe isn't that good cause it doesn't do great job at explaining anything but it's an ok game
I like this game, play it only on my switch.
Have to get back to it.
