Re: Deals: Black Friday 2018 Is The Best Time To Pick Up A 400GB Micro SD Card For Your Nintendo Switch

frabbit

I'm working off a 64GB card right now, although the majority of my games are archived, and a I had to archive a couple more last night to download Warframe. It's a bit frustrating in all honesty, but the game file sizes generally aren't that large in general so downloading them again over a 200Mbit/s connection isn't a massive deal for me.

Still, if someone dropped one of these in my lap for nout I'd certainly put it to use! 80 quid though over Christmas is like... 20 pints.

Re: Switch Online Is Going To Be The Place To Play Classic Nintendo Content, According To Reggie

frabbit

For the record, I like the NES games - I didn't have a NES as a kid, I started with the SNES and really got into gaming with the N64 and PS1. I've played most of what I want to play from the NES era on emulators over the years though, and even I - who was excited for classic Zelda, Metroid, and Mario - am starting to tire of it. Not just the service, but the lack of prospects for it. Is there anything that hasn't been released yet that's really worth my time?

It says something about Nintendo's strategy here when people have stopped screaming for Gamecube/Wii games on the Switch and have now adjusted their complaints to just scream for SNES games. Come on Nintendo.

Re: Hardware Review: Poké Ball Plus - The Most Imperfect Perfect Accessory You Could Imagine

frabbit

I must say, I pre-ordered Let's Go Pikachu and really didn't even consider picking one of these up.

Not having Mew is going to annoy the completionist in me but maybe I'll bully my little sister into thinking this is an essential purchase for her Switch... I mean, I'm not going to be the one to hand over this thing as a Christmas present, but my older brother/parents could be fooled. Sorry, thinking out loud.

Re: Poll: What Do You Want To See From The Final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

frabbit

@luke88 haha fair point man and since they've announced all the characters (or most at least) I suppose it would piss off a majority to hide them away. I just think it encourages people to play better - as in not just with the one character but changing to try new fighters as they become available. It also doesn't have to be locked behind play time. There are a million criteria that could have to be met to unlock a fighter.

I like unlockables that substantively change the possibilities of the game - costumes don't do that for me and I just wouldn't keep plugging away in order to get Mario a metal suit or whatever. No one complains when they can't jump to the last level in Mario without getting enough stars or shines or moons or whatever it is these days.

Also, you're not wrong about Mario Kart not being the game for me. I enjoyed the Switch game to an extent but pied it off after about 15 hours. Smash is a different beast though, I will plow countless hours in regardless of the initial fighter lineup, I'd just like it better if we had less to begin with.

Re: Poll: What Do You Want To See From The Final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

frabbit

I want to hear that we're starting with about 10 fighters initially and need to unlock every one else. Give a bit of incentive to actually play. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch gave me zero reason to keep playing (apart from for fun, eww) and I don't want that again! Missed out on the last couple of Smash iterations so not sure what the script has been with those but... yeah... give me incentive to play!

Re: Rumour: New Nintendo Switch SKU Planned For Late 2019

frabbit

I'd be more than happy with a Switch Pro type situation, although I feel it's a bit soon. I'd buy it even if it just meant we got ports of higher profile/spec games. I think I'm one of the few people who love the Switch being a port machine with added Nintendo originals.

Re: Video: Five Features Included With The Nintendo Switch Online Membership

frabbit

I didn't think there would be any surprises with the online service, and still my heart sank when we didn't get any. Dunno what that says about me.

When I think about it, the only thing I really want is an achievement system. I'm playing through the PS4 Tomb Raider games right now to prep for the new one and I like to 100% games, so I get a little buzz every time I get an achievement to say I've killed however many dudes with headshots or whatever. Its just a good thing to have. I can't see why this shouldn't be implemented on Switch. Minus the bit about head shots. Head splats maybe?

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 6.0.0 Launches Alongside Online Service

frabbit

@Heavyarms55 Minor complaint, but the list that shows your playtime on each game only shows the most recently played ones (maybe the most recent 20?). Not a big deal really but I buy and play a lot of indies on that thing and like to have a scroll through and see what I've put most time into.

I've not played Axiom Verge or Thimbleweed park for a while so they've dropped off my list, but have played feckin Robonauts and that free Pokemon one for about ten minutes. So anyone looking at my list online thinks I'm a big Robonauts fan, and I just don't like being tarred with that brush

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Will Start On 19th September, More Info Coming In Direct

frabbit

@NewAdvent yeah I let the PlayStation Plus lapse quite regularly as I pay it monthly but usually tune back in when I see something decent on the free games front that month. Considering picking up an xbox and just going for the Game Pass subscription thingy for a few months to plow through some Halo and that piratey one. My games backlog is ridiculous right now though on all platforms tbh so I may not!

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Will Start On 19th September, More Info Coming In Direct

frabbit

@nintendobynature Yeah, I mean, we can't expect Nintendo to watch Microsoft and Sony make money off their online service and not capitalize on their own.

If we get nothing at all but continued online play, a few NES games, and cloud saves I can't see that we've got any right to expect anything else.

That said, would I like a free indie game every month, or SNES games instead of NES? Or Gamcube instead of SNES? Yes. Just don't have a right to complain in the likely event that we get nothing extra.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Direct To Be Rescheduled For Thursday 13th September

frabbit

@Ralek85 I think that regardless of whether or not they're closely connected in terms of story the fact remains that it's Metroid Prime "4" which means the uninitiated will be like... hmmm... where're the first three please? Surely that's a consideration Nintendo have taken for MP. We got unnecessary (but fantastic) Bayonetta 1 and 2 ports in time for a new Bayonetta. I think Metroid is going to be substantially bigger than Bayonetta in terms of sales so the same logic would apply for me.

However... there's obviously more work in adapting the Metroid Prime trilogy, but then, assuming Bayonetta 3 and MP4 went into planning/development around the same time (thereby triggering the work on the preceding games' ports) we're now a year on from the Bayonetta ports. So... there's an extra year of development for the Metroid Trilogy.

I just don't want to count out the possibility of a MP Trilogy port being announced because it helps me sleep at night haha. I've been watching KingK's (youtube) retrospectives on the Zelda and Metroid 3D games the past couple of days and I am FIRED UP FOR NEW GAMES.

Re: Gone Home Celebrates Fifth Anniversary With Physical Release On Nintendo Switch

frabbit

Really enjoyed this on the PS4 and I'll go back for another go on the Switch. For some reason I tend to spend a lot more time on ported Switch versions of games, getting much more of any game's percentage completed than I would or did on the original machines. Shame there's no achievement system to mark that though...

Anyway, I'll be getting this - digital not physical. Just get me Everybody's Gone to the Rapture and that's my fave walking sims all covered!

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct?

frabbit

I enjoyed it more than I expected to. I thought for sure I had seen enough of it already but this Direct actually got me pretty hyped. I love the idea of this just being the ultimate smash game, a hundred stages, all the characters you'll ever need. I'm looking forward to getting stuck right in.

Also, did I dream that thing about being able to listen to the music with the screen off? Haha slightly unnecessary, but... whatever.
