Visually striking. As in, I was immediately struck by how terrible this game looks visually. The Pokemon look okay but good god those landscapes, that frame rate, that windmill. It’s going to look better on the Switch’s smaller screen but I think the screen would need to be Gameboy screen sized for this to actually look good.
I just can’t believe this is how Pokemon has moved with the times. Sure it’ll still sell millions and millions of copies though and we’ll get the same thing next year 👍
Honestly it’s been so long and my Switch is so knackered I’m ready for this to be announced for the Switch 2. I love my Switch but I’ve played too much ps5 and series X now that it’s like going back to a 360. Again, I love it, and I appreciate graphics aren’t the be all and end all, but I was impressed 6 years ago and doubt I’ll be impressed with more of the same today.
Literally just finished Portal 2 for the first time last week. If I hadn't picked up the physical on Xbox for 99p I'd probably be all over this. Really enjoyed it and thought it well worthy of the praise it gets.
Im pretty much over playing third party games on Switch that are available elsewhere at this point, my Switch is only getting any playtime still because of first party games.
That said, I’ll be buying and re-playing Outer Wilds when it comes. One of my favourite games of the last decade.
Metroid Prime easily wins the poll, but I have no expectations that we’ll see it. Literally none. It doesn’t even cross my mind anymore. It’ll get here when it gets here, and my money is on it being a “Switch 2” title regardless.
The one thing that I truly want for Switch is an achievements/trophy equivalent. Again, no chance at all but that’s what I want. I’m fresh out of current games that I want to play so I’d replay some if I had an incentive to do so. And before people say that fun should be the objective, I literally get fun out of the challenge of unlocking trophies. So… I’ll just nip that in the bud there 😂
I'd have given it a solid 6 on PS5 but with the technical issues a 5 is likely apt on Switch. It is pretty repetitive which put me off going for the platinum but it's not a long game and if you can get it cheap (and they sort out the technical issues) it's actually a fair bit of fun.
I’d honestly take the Prime trilogy over Prime 4 at this point. I want that game to have as much time in the oven as possible, and I’ve not played the originals for years.
@Itachi2099 I think the point about playing the game in public is included in the summary for comic effect to be honest, but if not then I do agree it shouldn't be a point against the game - because you don't have to play it portably.
However I do think it's pretty much a rule of common decency in most societies, that if you're consuming media of a sexual sort that you do it in private.
It's not because the content is offensive in its own right, or because anyone has a problem with you being attracted to Japanese girls in skirts, it's because the feelings that the content is designed to elicit in the viewer can be perceived as inappropriate or threatening to others around you.
I'd feel uncomfortable sitting near someone on a bus who was blatantly watching porn just as I'd feel uncomfortable sitting next to someone on a bus looking at anime girls in skirts and shooting them with pheromones to enjoy them having an o*****.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, but I'm 100% saying that if the content of the game is as described in this review, then it's inappropriate to consume in public.
It was only recently that I realised this game is the reason my favourite games, books, and movies generally have a time loop element to them. This game blew my ten year old mind and is my absolute favourite Zelda game. Played through that “annoying” first section this morning in about an hour so now down to the nitty gritty. Love it.
@psyraven76 well I’ve not played the game so don’t have a lot else to go on other than the visuals at the minute. Like I say, I want to want it but I’ve been imagining this game for 20 something years so when I finally see it and it’s not impressive to me, it’s hard to totally buy in right away. Still, glad you’re enjoying and let’s be honest, I’ll probably have it bought as soon as I finish work.
I want to get this but it just looks so damn awful visually I don't know if I can see past that right now having spent so much time recently playing through BotW again!
@Nanaki and no offence intended. I take your points and certainly don’t want to spend the evening arguing.
@sirlordrob I submit, if this is a 10/10 for you of course that’s as valid as my opinion. I didn’t mean to imply otherwise.
@KIRO I suppose it comes down to the perspective we’re taking when writing/reading reviews. Maybe my issue is with review scores in general. I’ll think on it.
@Tchunga Then just repost the original review as a historical article rather than updating it. It’s a confusing narrative - an updated review that doesn’t update the opinion in any way to reflect the modern gamer. What’s the point?
Whatever, I don’t want to argue about it and I don’t want to disrespect the writer but the above is my general thoughts on the overall existence of this updated review.
Guess I'll be the only naysayer, it's beautiful and all, but good luck getting a kid or oblivious parent to pick that up in a supermarket over a first party Nintendo title. Could use a touch more colour in my opinion.
I love the purple, and I loved the console, but I do remember having the pi** ripped out of me by some of my pals at the time for it. And when they saw cell shaded Link in Wind Waker that really sealed the deal for them - no chance they were picking up this "baby console". Idiots.
It won them around eventually with Smash Bros. Melee, but they still never bought a console. Hard to say NoA were completely wrong, regardless of the quality of the system and the games...
Somehow it seems like the Wii U should be older than 9 years... It was a good wee machine with some great games, a machine that we needed to have in order to get to the Switch!
Just to reminisce for a minute... my dad queued at midnight for the Gamecube outside some Game store in Glasgow and was one of the first to get it, so we got a free game and loads of merch including an adult sized Gamecube t-shirt. Eleven year old me woke up the next morning to find the GC at the bottom of my bed in a surprise that, honestly, is still one of my fondest memories. I then wore the super oversized t-shirt to a school football tournament that day, along with a red Fred Durst NY cap. I was a complete loser, and it was awesome. Friday 3rd May 2002. Great day
Those are some insane numbers but it's well deserved success. When I look at the playtime against this game on my Switch I'm consistently surprised at how much I've gotten out of that £10 price or whatever it was when I bought it years ago. Crazy value and a top indie!
All the portability it needs is the ability to be carried around the house from sofa to bed. My switch has never left my home and still the portability is its defining factor. The steam deck shouldn’t and won’t be judged on how easy it is to fit into your backpack or pocket.
@BanjoPickles 100% agree. I've just read IGN's old review from 2011 and it is the most biased article I've ever read, it's actually embarrassing to read. And I am a genuine, massive, Zelda fan.
That first Metroid Prime game blew my 12 year old mind at the time. I still remember it so fondly and can't wait for the inevitable Prime Trilogy on Switch.
Prime 2 I enjoyed but not to the same extent. And Prime 3 I couldn't deal with because of the motion controls.
Okay, they've mentioned it now at least. Hopefully the first of many anniversary related announcements... (Please Nintendo just let me play Majora's Mask on the Switch).
In my opinion this game desperately needs a number of additional features to bring it anywhere near up to scratch for modern gaming - putting any quality of life features behind a pay wall is frankly ridiculous.
Playing this game late into the night with my brother, me on the top bunk and him on the bottom. Trying to be quiet so our parents didn't come in and shut off the N64 before we could even save the game. Travelling through time again and again until we got that notebook just right and brought Anju and Kafei back together...
I have nothing but the best memories of this game and hope I can play through again on the Switch before too long.
Always wanted to play Fez, so looking forward to that. And loved Oxenfree so will pick up the sequel! Not too shabby for a Nindie Direct overall. I assume Hollow Knight is going to get the full Nintendo Direct treatment!

Yeah, looks absolutely fine to me. 🤷♂️
Re: Platinum's Switch Exclusive Astral Chain Celebrates Its Third Anniversary
Didn’t gel with this one. Pushed through to finish the (ridiculous) story but I certainly won’t be going back for a sequel.
Re: Hands On: Splatoon 3 Brings New Ideas, But Nothing Revolutionary
@Joker1234 I think Splatoon 2 already was a glorified Splatoon Deluxe lol.
I think this new one will be fun and I’ve not touched 2 in a long while so am likely to pick this up, probably around Christmas.

Neither of these are actually all that great I don’t think, though the European one definitely has a place in my heart.

@Leuke can confirm it’s not me 😂
Re: Poll: What's The Best James Bond Game?
@Leuke same story here. You’re not my mate are you?

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Kirby And The Forgotten Land
The high praise across the board is actually pretty astounding to me for what I absolutely assumed was going to be a 6/7 out of 10 game.

Re: The E3 2021 Awards Winners Are In, But Nintendo Lost Out
