Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 17th February

Obligatory predictions:

1. N64 ports of Ocarina and (hopefully) Majora available immediately.
2. Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD ports (Skyward Sword too?)
3. Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
4. Further Animal Crossing support (new features)
5. New Mario Party or WarioWare
6. Hollow Knight Silksong release date
7. Crash for Smash
8. "One final announcement..." - Breath of the Wild 2 Trailer with title.

And to be honest I'd be happy with like two of those at this point.

Re: Nintendo Will Discuss Upcoming Switch Games "At The Appropriate Time"

frabbit

The only reason I can think of for not announcing release dates with a good bit of notice is that the dates just aren't totally concrete yet. Covid has messed everything up and they must not want to commit to anything that might end up changing. If covid didn't happen there is no way we'd have nothing on the slate after April, particularly given the Switch's current momentum!

Re: Super Mario Bros. 35 Receives Its Very First Patch - Bugs And Other Issues Resolved

@Taarna Yeah I understand it's a good way to win, but it's like being that guy in a Battle Royale who hides in a box until there are only a couple of players left or something. I don't see where the fun is. Each to their own I suppose but it's not the way I want to play it and makes it near impossible for me to win. No big drama, that's just the reason I'll not be playing it anymore.

Really enjoyed playing this for about 20 minutes last night until I stayed on to spectate after I died and realised that every single person left was just repeating level 1-2 by going to the warp zone at the end of the level, every. single. time.

Fine if some people want to play the game this way, but that's really not where the fun is for me and I didn't expect it to be for many other people but apparently I'm wrong. Think they should just get rid of the warp zone and encourage actual level progression instead of people just learning to beast a single level in the game.

Re: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Remasters In Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Direct

@Grahamthecracker Hey. So the GC had pressure sensitive triggers that determined how much water shot out of the FLUDD, and the Switch doesn't have the pressure sensitive triggers! When you're playing on the GC you use the pressure triggers to determine the height you go to when using FLUDD as a jet pack type thing. And also to control the power of the hose (so the distance the water shoots out) when just using it to clean graffiti and stuff.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase Appears Out Of Nowhere, Watch It Here

frabbit

I think people forget that these Directs aren't just for the die hard fans who are sitting around speculating about what Nintendo have coming this year, or those expecting the big Direct this week. There's a big audience of casual players for some of these games and these Partner Showcases aren't going anywhere by the looks of it, so that's that. Their existence doesn't take away from the potential for first party games, in fact it reinforces it. I doubt they would separate out third party games if first party ones didn't exist.

So whilst I get it, it's disappointing seeing this when all we want is that full-fat Nintendo Direct... we're still going to get it. This one just wasn't for us.

Re: Rumour: New Switch Model Launching Early 2021 Alongside A Strong Game Lineup, According To Reports

frabbit

I am 100% down with this.

In the position I'm in, I'll be buying a PS5 in November. I missed out on most of the Xbox One/PS4 generation and if this means suddenly we'll start getting more really competent PS4/Xbone ports for the Switch then that sounds great to me. I'll keep my PS5 for cutting edge graphics stuff, and my Switch becomes even more of an amazing handheld experience. It's all winning for me.

Re: Nintendo's Net Profits Reached $1bn In The Last Quarter, A 541% Rise Year-On-Year

frabbit

I've gone off Animal Crossing in all honesty, but I'm sure there's still a crazy number of people out there playing it. Nintendo must be thinking about paid DLC after they hit that 1-year free update mark. Although they've done nothing for Mario Kart Deluxe and I assume that's the number 1 best seller? They really are a mystery sometimes.

Also, if they're expecting to beat these profits year-on-year then they really need to get to announcing some new games...
