I love realistic food models in Nintendo games
Eh, still no reveal of the starter evolution looking. 😕
ooo cooking
still on the fence about this game
i don't like the new pokemon much
Imagine if effort was put into graphics, sound and overall presentation.
I'm very excited. Really hoping Gen 6 starters and the Mythicals not in Gen 8 make it in though.
What have they done to Pokémon? Why is this game so barren? Why do the graphics look so poor - that picnic scene is just embarrassing. All of these new gimmicks are ridiculous and the storyline is utterly bonkers - a bunch of naughty school children and out to block off roads and you battle them on their boom-bus? Honestly...
@ketrac Visuals look fine.
I completely forgot there was gonna be a Pokemon news drop today. Nintendo fans will be eating well today between this and the Super Mario Bros. Movie stream.
Eh, why does the graphic look so bad? I would be grateful at least for some average looking game but this goes way below average :/ We are in a world where Xenoblade series exist.
Well, yeah, I will play it but I do not feel any excitement about this game from several different reasons...
@alasdair91
As weird as it sounds… much of the earth is also barren and uninhabited. You’ve journeyed beyond your city no doubt. Lots to see out there…
Yup, as a guy who has been playing since Gen 1 and would consider Pokémon their favorite videogame franchise (or at least tied with Zelda), I'm back on board. There's some ambition here, which is more than I could say about Sword and Shield. As for people complaining about the graphics, it's an open world Switch game. Don't know what else needs to be said.
People when a pokemon game isn't on par with real life for graphics: 😡. If graphics is all you care about then why did you get a switch lol it's not like it has ps5 level graphics in some games. Most hype part was sandwich making to me lol. I loved cooking curry in galar .
@Phostachio I would just say open world, period. Most all open world games are like this. Even games like Skyrim, Witcher, Breath of the Wild, etc...you can almost always hit the "open world" running, and run past nothing but scenery for who knows how long. I'm not bothered by this at all. Also, I think the graphics here look just fine to me. I'm quite excited to jump into this game with my daughters and hunt pokemon together!
@WallyWest
Going by the footage there definitely seems like a lot of technical hitches, from objects popping in to frame drops when exploring.
In general the textures and whatnot dont bother me but i was hoping that with the more simplistic visual style that it meant the game would have a more consistent framerate considering framerate affects how the game plays, even a locked 30fps would have been fine.
@Slinkoy1
Where in the comments did people suggest that the visuals should look realistic or on par with ps5?
what is the "ham" in the ham sandwich made from? it's not Lechonk is it?
It was a good bit of information. Honestly I wish they included more new Pokémon in it though. A lot of it was stuff I think could have just been left for us to discover in the game ourselves. Man, I really wanted to see some starter evolutions too!
A lot of polished mechanics of SWSH with an open world setting. It could be a good game.
...But I still want to see the designs of all the new Pokemon (specially since I'm not a fan of the majority of them that they've shown) and if the story is at least acceptable (unlike SWSH).
@EarthboundBenjy
Imagine eating sandwich together with Lechonk while the ham inside the sandwich is made of Lechonk ham... 🤭
just annoying how little they want to make progress on the visuals. I am not a stickler for graphics, but some of what was shown looks like something that could've been on the PS2.
can't wait to go to the town with the 2 fps windmill 😂
@Zach777 I’m aware of what the world looks like outside of towns and cities… and it isn’t a flat, treeless expanse of monotone colours. This game somehow looks like a backward step from Sword and Shield and Arceus, which is saying something given they were developed at the same time!
@alasdair91 They're not doing anything, because peope keep buying their low effort crap. As someone who played the original games and a few here and there, I'm proud to have stopped.
Make a great game and you'll get my money.
It’s so cool that Farigiraf a creation is by a fan, originating from 2012: https://fantasticfakemon.tumblr.com/post/39328133431/girafarig-farigiraf-type-not-provided
The concept even looks the same.
@Mgalens it was just for the sake of a joke lol.
@Phostachio @Slinkoy1 Not a single person here is asking for photorealistic visuals. But look at what Breath of The Wild did in 2017. And then look at Xenoblade 3 just a few months ago. The Switch is far more capable than what was on display in this trailer.
I'm wicked excited to play an actual open world Pokemon. But the visuals here are serviceable at best and that's disappointing.
@Tainaru Xenoblade a series what pushes the visuals so hard its a blurry mess in handheld and pretty blurry docked. I love Xenoblade but its a series not suited to the dated tech the Switch has.
@alasdair91
Depends on where you go, honestly. Main point I was getting across is… not everything has any one person’s expectation fulfilled.
You want to play a video game to explore a world? You have your own world to explore outside.
You want to play a video game to make an electric mouse zap the crap out or a fire horse? Play Pokémon.
It’s that simple.
Is it me or do the textures look really low res? It suprises me the haven't introducted farming yet...
@ketrac Its almost like the majority of the fanbase are kids who don't care PM isn't looking like Xenoblade. In fact most of the fanbase are generally happy with how the series is and sales and even reviews are proof of that. A bunch of overgrown adults complaining a kids game isn't made for them really don't factor in Gamefreaks plans especially when most of them will buy the new games regardless.
@Slinkoy1
ah sorry it can be hard to tell sometimes.
Though for me im fine with the visuals though just wish it ran smoother. (its why im all for games which offer "performance" and "visual" modes)
Sponsored by Swarovski
Still wishing it reviews well. This looks really good, but so did Shield back then. Fooled me once, but never again.
The gameplay looks like a downgrade compared to Pokemon legends
@EarthboundBenjy It's 100% Lechonk.
That trailer was promising in terms of gameplay, I'm excited to check the game out at launch. I will say, this does seem to further hint at the new Switch hardware alongside BotW 2 theory. Framerate seems comparable to 3DS Pokemon games that released after the New 3DS had launched when played on the standard 3DS.
I'm still just happy we can finally rotate the damn camera.
And yes, we're eating Lechonk, and he is delicious
Honestly, the trailer didn't do much for me. Basically was an extended look of stuff we've seen/known before with some new things sprinkled in there. Admittedly, I do like Farigiraf and the picnics. The Let's Go mechanic is pretty neat as well; reminds me of Spectrobes Origins in that regard.
@WallyWest How nice of you to respond to criticisms towards a game company by the way of personal attacks and insults, while adding nothing to the discussion.
All gamers would benefit from better Pokemon games, regardless of age, as would gaming as a whole.
Not even a sick Giraffarig evolution will make me buy this.
@WallyWest Something must be wrong because when I play XC3, it's pretty clean and runs well. Docked or unlocked. Glad you're excited about Scarlet and Violet.
@WallyWest it looks like a launch title gamecube game. It's fine but it's a lot of low effort looks.
@WallyWest The difference between Xeno games and Pokémon in graphics is huge. I am not saying it has to look exactly like Xeno games but you see the amount of work when you compare both titles and Pokémon just looks very generic so far. I was willing to excuse it at SwSh because it was the first new gen on Switch and it was fun, but not anymore. GF has the money to make it appealing but honestly so far I've seen only few nice mons and the rest is an example of laziness. Terrastalizing might be good for pvp tho. And I still know nothing about the "story," I just hoped they would show something... more. Idk. However, I wish fun to us all, there are some promising mechanics.
gameplay looks boring compared to arceus
Game Freak is one of the most disappointing studios relative to the financial resources at their disposal. Even the narration in the trailer is lazy and embarrassing. It's like they think the player base is exclusively made up of lobotomized toddlers. It's especially frustrating since I do think that this game at least has a little more heart than Sword and Shield, but that's a low bar.
Nice trailer. I actually like the graphics. Seems gamy and oldschool. Sandwich making is funny. I do not think I will have many picnics but it is a nice addition anyway. Playing with my Pokemon for a little bit is good for the immersion.
I am looking forward to explore this new land. Warm and friendly open worlds for kids are not that widespread, so I am happy.
Just watched it there and wow, was it....underwhelming. I have no problem with what they revealed (seeing uncut gameplay is brilliant and the new additions of photo mode and picnicking look hilariously fun) but god the pacing was dreadful. FOURTEEN MINUTES to have a rundown of what we already saw in a 3-minute trailer in September? Not a fan to put it mildly.
Farigiraf looks amazing though, no doubts in my mind.
This looks like a nice 3DS game
Why put any effort in the main game when you can also create a cooking game nobody remembers after 10 minutes of playing?
For anyone complaining about the frame drops and issues: the Japanese version of this trailer had them all ironed out.
Game looks solid, but it's definitely a step back from Arceus mechanically and has some rough-looking animations and pop-in.
@Anti-Matter I hope they never show us, and we have to wait until we play to find out what they look like
@Indielink
As Wally said, XC2 A and 3 are blurry and the resolution is pretty bad. 3 looks better than 2 in handheld, but it still looks rough.
@PikaPhantom
The JP trailer must have been running off of a more recent build of the game.
The game is still pretty ugly in general but I expect any noticeable performance issues to be ironed out by launch.
@WallyWest I hate this stupid mentality. I guess kids games are immune to critism because... kids stupid? Oh and every adult that makes those critism is wrong because... "the series isn't for them"? You know that kids media can and should have some quality standards, right? Having good games is not only an adult thing.
Also, If it isn't for them then why the constant nostalgia for games that are three times older than the "only" target audience?
@Phostachio XC3 can get very pixel-y in battles with more than nine or ten participants on screen but even at its most blurry it's still a heck of a lot more impressive than anything happening in Pokemon.
While waiting for the Mario Movie trailer this came out as surprising. If only we've seen these trailers back in June some things could've been clarified better. But this is coming out as something to think about.
Good thing you can customize the camera. With the camera that far in the trailer you can see out the entire world and draw distances. I wish the animations in the overworld were better than simply swinging your arm or floating in the air when stepping on the ground.
Or maybe I just have to get used to the UI. Anyway this trailer is the only thing I need before the game launches, something to look and analyize every time. It's perfect.
Well the only thing that I could accept would be something about Terastal they haven't talked about.
@ketrac Better? The new games are everything people complained S&S wasn't. We're getting a full 3D open world, Pokemon out in the open and are Pokemon following us around, the fanbase has been begging for this for years yet you go on Nintendo Life and all you see is people complaining it doesn't look like Xenoblade a series what pushes the Switch too much to get those visuals hence the awful resolution in both Docked and Handheld. This Gen is doing nearly everything right yet all i see is adults on here complaining its not looking like Xenoblade or playing like the broken, grindy and unbalanced early games. Newsflash the series never really had a lowpoint, S&S are not perfect but are really good hence the reviews and sales, the Gen 4 remakes are really flawed but fine enough and Legends was a great change of pace and was a great new spin. Kids and most of the older fanbase don't care about these supposed flaws, critics don't either so yeah its overgrown adults moaning a kids game isn't made for them as always with every new release. I'm sick of it.
@michellelynn0976 Have you got a 4K TV? It looks awful on mine because of the low resolution, don't get me wrong i love the game and its visuals but the resolution hit wasn't worth the trade off for me.
@cylemmulo You never played a Gamecube game if you think that, you're basically saying it looks like Pokemon Colosseum and yeah its a massive upgrade over that.
Visually striking. As in, I was immediately struck by how terrible this game looks visually. The Pokemon look okay but good god those landscapes, that frame rate, that windmill. It’s going to look better on the Switch’s smaller screen but I think the screen would need to be Gameboy screen sized for this to actually look good.
I just can’t believe this is how Pokemon has moved with the times. Sure it’ll still sell millions and millions of copies though and we’ll get the same thing next year 👍
@WallyWest I mean from a company that cares about visuals. Pokémon colosseum looked like barf when it came out and now.
@WallyWest You're sick of people who want more from their games. Got it.
I'm okay with you being excited about SV, but I wish you and others would push GF to make better games.
I'm also a bit unsure why you feel the need to repeat insults and personal attacks to validate your opinion and devaluate others. I can clearly voice mine without resorting to either.
Is it just me or does the framerate look really slow
@WallyWest if it was an indie game sure but this is a big release in a billion dollar franchise lol
@WallyWest & who cares if it's a kids game the vast majority of Nintendo games are made for kids they aren't the ones paying for them though are they lol
@DJP-
I prefer getting leak and it just for myself to know.
This trailer made my decision not to get this game. I have played Sword and Arceus (and Red and Silver as a kid), and I hardly see anything to get excited about in the new game. The world setting seems bland, especially the red rocky part. There are hardly any interesting new mechanics. Picnic is what camping was. The dynamax was not interesting so I don't expect teratypes to do much for gameplay either. No indications of voice acting or anything else livening up the world.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy pokemon and am happy with the games I got. It's just clear that Scarlet/Violet will not add to the experience for me.
@ketrac The game could have Xenoblade 3 level visuals, run at 108060fps docked with 720p60fps handheld, a map the size of BotW and every PM ever in the game catchable and i bet people would still moan. Scarlet and Violet is pretty much feels like a direct response to S&S criticism and yet people still moan. Yeah i'm happy with what we're getting as a 3D open world PM game has been the dream game, the new features look fun and most of the new Pokemon look great, even the visuals are a big step up from any other PM game and look fine. What is it you want exactly? Anyway watch it get rave reviews, sell millions and see the general fanbase be more then happy with it.
Also i never insulted anyone. Generalised? Sure but i don't see my 10 year old cousin getting whiney over it or my PM obsessed Girlfriend instead i just see the usual grown adults on Nintendo Life, Reddit, Twitter and Youtube moaning because the game doesn't look like a PS5 game or Xenoblade 3 a game that makes a ton of sacrifices to get the visuals it has. Tears of the Kingdom is going to be a graphical powerhouse but its going to run like hell if BotW is anything to by, maybe GF have the right idea 🤷♂️
@Would_you_kindly Fun fact only a small subset of "fans" actually have major faults with modern PM games. Critics love them, kids love them and most of the fanbase love them, you can dislike them but remember your faults are subjective and its a subjective thing most don't feel.
Also your logic is flawed. My 10 year cousin who loves PM is getting the game for Xmas, my Uncle who doesn't game does not care how the game looks because if his son thinks it looks good and has a great time with the game then he's happy.
@WallyWest you're capping hard for TPC & game freak 😂
@WallyWest BOTW ran okay, at 30fps, not great, but okay.
With the exception being Lost Woods @ the deku tree.
Still better than any recent Pokemon games in terms of presentation.
We'll have to agree to disagree.
Hoping NL does a better job moderating insults and personal attacks in the future.
@sisodinr agreed, that stuttering windmill is abysmal! How this got into a trailer I'll never know, it looked like it was running on clockwork until they got closer and it started turning smoothly. Gamefreak seriously need to get help.
@WallyWest you know gamefreak won't see you going hard for them in this comment section, right? Baffles me why anyone would attack people so harshly just for criticizing a game they like.
@Savage_Joe No, he isn't right on XC3. Because 2 is a bit blurry, but 3 looks a lot better. Even Digital Foundry said the game looked a lot better than the 2nd one.
@WallyWest If you say so. It doesn't on mine.
@Otoemetry Attack? I've not directed one insult at anyone and considering none of my comments have been removed NL clearly feel the same.
Look i'm sick and tired of every single PM release having whiny adults moaning because the game hasn't aged with them or moaning because it doesn't look like Xenoblade or BotW. Yeah guess what PM has never really looked great, it got by because of the great gameplay and monsters designs plus kids don't care about visuals that much they just want to have fun and pretend they're Ash. As i said S&V does everything S&S was complained of not doing, even the PM models have been completely redone for this release. Irony is of course most of you will buy it and love it because its the same story everytime. Finally like i've said before the visuals are fine.
@michellelynn0976 Well to be slightly fair the Switch doesn't look great on a 4K display full stop. Its a 1080p machine running on 4K hardware so the blur really stands out, its like why the PS2 looks off putting on a 1080p display compared to a SD one. The big issue is when a game like Xenoblade 3 can't hit that 1080p it really stands out on a 4K display and feels blurry, its even worse when you're so used to playing on a PS5 when the TV is being used to its fullest.
@WallyWest *in your opinion*the visuals are fine, stop acting like yours is the be all and end all. I won't be buying these games, trust me. Gamefreak won't fool me twice.
I’m probably in the minority, but this trailer has me feeling less excited about the game. The graphics and frame rate looks terrible, Titan Pokemon seem too easy to defeat, and Team Star battles look like they require no effort. Also it seems likely that we can’t change our character’s clothes.
Again, the graphics of environemnt in SV is way worse than average Pokémon game. It is not about bluriness, it is about richness of the world and variety of textures which are at least fine in many games, not only XC. Then why could Pokémon game not look good? Also fps which drops in one scene with a single car. So far the game looks extremely bland. Sure, some kids are ok with it but only because they do not know they could get much, much more. And beware of generalizing, not all kids want poor content in their games. There are many who do not pick modern Pokémon games for many reasons and graphics is one of them because it is the first thing they see.
And yes, I will play it. But will I like it? I am not sure.
@Savage_Joe My dude the most demanding area in xc2 is the beginning, game looks and runs a lot better in later areas
@WallyWest The PS5 isn't even native 4K. I hear people say when they play the Mass Effect trilogy at 1080p 120fps, they can't go back to the PS5.
Too much focus on bits, bytes, framerate and such.
@Savage_Joe I've played XC3 and you are wrong. DF was talking about all of the game.
