2022 is shaping up to be quite an exciting year for fans of the turn-based strategy genre, and one of the many titles to look forward to is Triangle Strategy from the Octopath Traveler team.
To welcome in the New Year, the game's publisher Square Enix has shared a first look at the official Nintendo Switch box art for the title. According to a rough translation, the package illustration is kind of the last reveal associated with the game's release date, which is currently scheduled for 4th March this year.
When Triangle Strategy launches later on in 2022, it promises to feature hours of gameplay, multiple endings and stunningly unique HD-2D graphics similar to Octopath Traveler. Is this a game on your radar this year? Leave a comment below.

Square Enix really needs to hire a new Head of Game Naming...
Definitely better than both Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2, I like it, still a bit underwhelming though
This game is a day one buy from me.
Title: zero budget
Box art budget: yes
The title ruins the entire thing. Maybe I'm overreacting, but the cover looks so grand, and that ugly name and title sticks out on the cover. The naming worked with Octopath, doesn't work here at all. I will be hopefully buying this game.
I'd buy it just for the cover alone.
Stunning artwork. it could be in a museum and nobody would guess that it was the cover art for a video game.
But Square Enix's titles? Yeesh...
Octopath Traveler?
Bravely Default?
Bravely Second?!
Ironically though, their stupid title choices might actually be helping their games stand out from the pack.
Either way, these games don't interest me, though I might dabble with the Triangle Strategy demo just prior to release so that I give it a fair go. Octopath Traveler was a promising concept, but the demo absolutely bored me to sleep, and this appears to be very similar.
Simple and stylish I like it a lot.
Guess I'll be the only naysayer, it's beautiful and all, but good luck getting a kid or oblivious parent to pick that up in a supermarket over a first party Nintendo title. Could use a touch more colour in my opinion.
Bought a Hori Switchpad specifically for this game. Can't wait.
What does the inside art look like?
This literal masterpiece art doesn't really go well with the title
Looks phenomenal. This and Forspoken are perhaps my most anticipated (confirmed) games for 2022. Really excited for it! I have a feeling this will be much better than Octopath.
I like it. Still hate the name tho but if the game is fun it’s whatever lol.
Yea name is weird, but I’m getting major Squall vibes from the art so I like lol.
Only game i own from Square is DQ11, everything else they have put on the Switch has been generic dribble and this looks like more generic dribble.
Octopath and Bravely both look like generic games you can make yourself from one of those old create your own RPG dev kits. This looks more of the same except it has a basketball name.
@SuperZeldaFun “Three-Pronged Ponderances of Tactics to be Used in a Potential Combat Scenario Deku Deku Densetsu Gaiden ver1.R1/2”
That title, mang. I wonder how many people will be turned off/on by it. It sounds so unimaginative.
@Silly_G I couldn’t believe how bored Octopath made me feel, and I grew up on JRPGs!
@NintendoKnight Might be dumb but I feel exactly the same. The title is like a dumb, "ironic" inside joke, and that just puts me off. I'll probably end up buying it anyway as I love tactical RPGs, but in my headcanon the game will have a different name, like it should have in the first place.
Cover art is all right though. TBH this is quite the generic look in fantasy publishing, but it's not that common a look in video games yet, and it's done well.
This game feels like it could be dark and could really go places. Demo was great, and gave me early season Game of Thrones vibes. Really hope choices actually matter and will diversify the ending outcomes of the game, like Chrono Trigger and not Octopath Traveler.
The box art has a dark tune to it and I love it.
Very pretty but Id put it on the back not front.
I have no interest in Square products anymore after the ***** the CEO said on New Years
Sold. Very pretty box art. Maybe not as pretty as that Sonic Frontiers art - but I’ve got much more confidence in the finished product for Triangle Strategy!
Do I get day one or do I wait until it comes to other consoles like octopath traveler did
@SuperZeldaFun Miyamoto himself. I've said too much..!
That title stands out as a sore thumb in a beautiful box art illustration.
Looking forward to march! I’ve been wearing the demo out.
I don't dislike the title. It seemed ridiculous at first but now it's just what the game is called. After a certain point the meaning of words themselves give way to the name.
I mean, Final Fantasy is an odd title for a game. We can over analyze the words all we want but names became greater than the sum of their parts.
Guess they're really keeping that name!
Lovely box art.
Cover: 9/10
Name: WAT
People seem too high strung over the name. Geez. I wasn’t ever really concerned with it to begin with, but reading this comment section I see a lot of people getting ready to stand on the hill with pitchforks against it. The name isn’t that bad, and the box art is quaint.
At least it's better than BEYOND THE BEYOND
This is the Japanese box art.
It remains to be seen if they go for the same one in the west.
It's not bad, but it's not amazing either.
Kinda plain if you ask me.
@Funneefox What did the Square CEO say?
(checks internet…)
Nope. Still no wiser. That reads like it was put through a random word generator then passed a couple of times through Google translate.
Either way, no NFTs in Triangle Strategy, as far as I can tell, so all good.
Easy day 1 for me, with or without the boxart.
Possibly the weakest march release yet for Switch in the month of march which is the ending of Nintendos physical year
Triangles are awesome. Strategy is awesome. What's not to like?
@Purgatorium Indeed, browsing through dekudeals I often skip over games with super blatantly rpg names. You don't need to try to explain the story in the title alone (besides that Prinny game about the panties). Triangle Strategy sounds fine to me.
@Funneefox
What did he say? I can’t find anything on it.
That really is awesome box art... looking into a world... what will there be to discover?
@TheRedComet talked about supporting NFTs and how they want to appeal people who play games for monetary gain more than people who play games for fun
@valharian ok that sounds like a stupid (not to mention redundant) name for a game.
I really like the box art.
I think the name should’ve been ‘not Square strategy’.
Or maybe ‘Square strategy’ is the name of the DLC.
@TheRedComet nothing. People just don't want to buy the game anyway then go on the internet and find a reason to 'boycott' the company for internet virtue points / attention.
The box art looks great.
I want this game SO BADLY..
@KBuckley27 So Triangle Strategy, Chocobo GP and Rune Factory 5, three third party exclusive titles, are not enough for you?? It's an amazing month, imo!
What's up with the weird titles of RPG's... The more ambiguous the better? But yeah, nice box art.
Nice box art, terrible title
I love the art, but it doesn't scream "TRIANGLE STRATEGY!" in any shape or fashion to me. Fire Emblem: Three Houses' cover gets the point across much better imo. I'm interested in the game regardless though.
Great cover art.
Don't get what's wrong with the title, especially coming from Square Enix.
@Silly_G TBH, Final Fantasy is kinda a poor title for a 15 game series,
I agree with most others here; Octopath Traveler was a weird name, but it grew on me. Triangle Strategy, however, still feels like they just had an AI name this one with two random words that could be related to gaming.
That aside, I have no doubt this one will turn out great!
Very BotW inspired
Come on guys, we have known the name of this game for ages. Why so much complaining about it now, like it was a new thing?
The cover art is beautiful, that's what matters in this news.
Awesome looking boxart but omg that name. Literally the two most boring words, together, lol
Still, really looking forward to this. Octopath Traveler (which is still a terrible name — but better than triangle strategy), was one of my favorite games in the Switch’s early years.
SE names = goofy autotranslate errors. But whatever. I'm more annoyed that this had to be a strategy game :/ Not enjoying strategy as a type of gameplay, at all. And since it was made by the Octopath team we can assume an actual Octopath sequel is a long time away.
It looks muddy...
Yooo, that looks GOOD.
If only it wasn't by Square and didn't have a garbage title.
@Jacoby white, blank side of a piece of paper.
@MoonKnight7 what do you have against 🔺️.
"Promises hours of gameplay." Day one purchase for me!
@Gaviin why man. He's heading home runs with these names. Can't wait for the spin-off "Hexagon adventure,"
I've yet to see anyone explain why Triangle Strategy is a bad title. Something funny about triangles? Is it that you learn about simple geometric shapes as a child and then, what, never think about them again?
Do people think triangles denote too much simplicity?
Is "Super Mario" a good title for a game? Or "Donkey Kong"?
