I'd love an untimed, open world mode in Crazy Taxi. I know it probably wouldn't be "crazy" enough, but it might be nice to just zoom around, pick people up, and drop them off without a big timer pressure (other than the passengers' patience).
I like the fact that cartridges are not tied to online accounts, and that I can still play them if, for whatever reason, I lose access to my Nintendo account. And I've lost access to an app store before and had to re-buy stuff ages ago.
@Raffles You beat me to making this comment. A good game is a good game, for sure, but trying to pretend about your development creds really feels..fishy.
Had quite a few titles here that definitely caught my interest.
If I prioritize for the short term, it'd be: Mario vs Donkey Kong, Super Mario RPG, Rhythm Castle, Eiyuden
Overall list of games I'm interested in are below:
Paper Mario, Princess Peach Showtime, Unicorn Overlord, Luigi's Mansion 2, Another Code, Mario vs Donkey Kong, Super Mario RPG, Contra Operation Galuga, Prince of Persia, SaGa, Horizon Chase, Rhythm Castle, Eiyuden
@dribLS Totally understandable. That was why I had the FWIW caveat in my comment.
Funnily enough, it's the reverse situation in Korea. The N64 was hardly a blip back in the day, so it's much harder to get hardware locally today. And the NSO store is filled with all the controllers.
@SwitchForce The very original controller from the 90s did not have rumble built in. If memory serves me right, it was a separately sold accessory back then.
@dribLS For what it’s worth, you can pair the NSO N64 controller with a PC as well.
Strong emphasis on “FWIW,” because the process is much jankier than 8bitdo’s solution. More something to consider if it’s easy to get the NSO controller at MSRP; there’s an abundance of stock in the Korean Nintendo shop, for example.
@electrolite77 Sometimes I wonder whether these consoles get communities because now that the general tech has matured and gaming trends have changed, it’s easier to look back on what was and what wasn’t. You have more things to compare and contrast with.
I get that this website being Nintendo-focused, the article’s focus is on the gaming aspect, but I think it really is worth mentioning that the other highlight is that it can pair as a keyboard. This opens up usage as a macro pad of sorts.
@Lizuka Final Fantasy re-releases show that either way is possible - content getting trimmed down in select ways (FF6 getting rid of Celes’s physical abuse, for example), or going with a combined “E - T” rating like how Pixel Remaster did.
@MSaturn What do you mean "Prince of Persia, again"? The last game was released in 2013, and that was a remake of a 90s game. It's not like Call of Duty or other games that get annual releases.
That aside, I do agree with you about Ubi being "blandly competent." Maybe their frequent deep sales is one reason for that image in my head.
My brain was too smooth for the original GBA versions. I don't expect any better for this re-release. So...no for me, but still excited for those who are excited.
@PKDuckman I know of two cases where English was left out on purpose - one of the Valis collections, and Cotton Reboot. What else is there?
And seriously, ININ is not doing itself any favors here. It's one thing to split up 10 games across 3 carts so that you need to spend $40 x 3 to get all 10. But like the Darius collections, and now this, is it really profitable to have overlapping compilations, and worth the confusion caused towards consumers?
KOF’s control scheme makes this series one of the more convenient to play on handheld, as there are only four attacks compared to Street Fighter’s six or Guilty Gear’s 5+.
Mapping extra attacks to the shoulders like Street Fighter is hard to go back to after playing with a Sega pad or an arcade stick.
@Dm9982 It's a combination of getting sucked into one game in single player during one part of the day, and then being busy playing another game with friends during another part of the day. And then in the meantime, new stuff comes out, you grab it, and everything sits untouched. Maybe even gathering dust.
@Serpenterror Street Fighter 1 (AKA Fighting Street) was originally an arcade game, and it was ported to the PCE/TG16. I can't seem to find any games that are exclusive to the TG16, or released in both US/JP, and got a re-release on the Switch.
@gcunit Perfect weasel words that reveal nothing about the near future, unless there is more context, and I figure those directors are being quite careful with how they're wording their responses.
@Thesharkfromjaws I like this from your comments: They can determine prices on a case by case basis and I'll determine if they are worth my money in exactly the same way.
I'm lucky I live someplace with a vibrant used games market. I'll keep doing that.
I think 46% is somewhat misleading. Nintendo is lumping NSO, NSO Expansion, digital versions of physically available titles, and DLC under one umbrella. In contrast, you can't buy DLC off a store shelf in boxed form 9 times out of 10 (apparently Mario Kart 8 DLC is sold as a code in a box in some regions).
@Daggot There are so many different flavors of shmups that it's practically impossible to pick one and say it's the best of the best. Lots of people swear by Ikaruga as being "the one," but there are lots who think it's overrated. Even ignoring that, Ikaruga's gimmicks are not seen in many other titles, so within the genre, it's like comparing apples to oranges.
It takes a bit of experimentation to determine whether you like a certain flavor of shmups, or whether you like most shmups.

Re: Video: Marvel vs. Capcom: Fighting Collection 'Clash Of Super Heroes' Trailer
Second time they're reusing COTA training footage. Odd.
Re: Bullet-Hell Shmup 'Mushihimesama' To Be Delisted From The Switch eShop

Re: Feature: Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Lands On Switch Today In A Port Two Years In The Making
@NinjaSyao It is more arcade than sim. Starts off kinda realistic, but then veers into science fiction.
Re: Stardew Valley Adds 40 New Mine Layouts In Latest Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
The way I see it, CA is on a creative streak with all these new stuff...and hopefully can maintain feature parity when releasing 1.6.x for the Switch.
Re: Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Reportedly Features Modder's Work "Without Credit"
@Daggot Seriously, just what happened to these guys??
They used to be a good port house, like the iOS conversion of both KOTOR games.
Re: Super Contra Joins Hamster's Arcade Archives Library This Week
I wonder if tate support will be added. Supposedly the compilation doesn't have it?

Re: Random: Nintendo Gives Princess Peach Some Facial Tweaks In 'Showtime!' Key Art
I can definitely see the difference, but yeah, I'm in the "meh, they're pretty much the same" camp.
Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?
Nope.

Re: Review: Genki Shadowcast 2 - The Little Capture Card That Could
I own the first ShadowCast and I remember being more annoyed by the software than the hardware itself. Do you know if the software has been updated?
Re: Latest Genki Kickstarter Offers New Portable Switch Dock, iPad Connectivity And More
I had their original Covert Dock, and it never gave me problems. I stopped using it only because I lost it.
Re: Stardew Valley Creator Teases Version 1.6 (Again)
This guy just never stops, does he?
Probably the only time I would say that in a positive light.

I know she's been a usable character in a handful.

Rights issues?

@RootsGenoa I'm a cart collector, and I agree with this take.
If you need to reduce barriers towards working out, digital is the more suitable way to go.

130 hours into Fire Emblem Three Houses at the moment.
Simply because of grinding supports.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Final Fantasy IV (DS)
Square, always flip-flopping on regional box art.
