@BongoBongo123 Treasure was exclusively Sega until the 32-bit era when they started branching out with Mischief Makers for N64 and Sillhouette Mirage for PS1/Saturn.
After Sega exited the home console business, they catered primarily to Nintendo, barring a couple of ports for the PS2 and Xbox360.
Apparently April's butt attack was removed in the final release. But that's reminiscent of KOF's Yuri, who shares a similar attack...and more relevantly, Aska from TMNT Tournament Fighters.
@BanjoPickles I can't comment about every single game you mentioned in the list, but I would bet that none of the past Air Combat/Ace Combat games will get a re-release on any modern platform because of licensing issues.
"As the GBA's life was winding down, Linden repurposed this same engine to create his own game called Cyboid - another "high-speed" first-person shooter that's playable on multiple devices including mobile phones."
@Bunkerneath Holy hell, thank you for highlighting that part. It's like everyone just read the headline and started yelling in the comments. Oh, and yes, the headline was definitely rage-bait.
@Kevember The thing about language is that language and culture are very intertwined. That's why trying to learn a language without learning about the culture (or cultures) tied to it is far more difficult than trying to absorb the whole package.
@Mauzuri For what it's worth, even assuming there aren't save states, if Sega is smart about modernizing their old games, I would expect them to allow players to save after each act. They've gone far enough to rebuild the game for a modern platform; adding saves should be quite feasible.
I'd probably wait for reviews before buying. I want this, but I'm waiting for a cartridge version...or never buying lol.
@JayJ It's worth keeping in mind that the Analogue caters to an audience that is very different from that of the Anbernic or Retroid Pocket because the former (at least as of this article) accepts only physical carts, whether they're authentic, repro or flash carts, whereas the Anbernic can't use carts.
Your second thoughts about staying on the waitlist are with merit, and I speak as someone who got a Pocket as part of the Q1 2022 group. I got the Pocket after judging that a community-modded GBA would cost more or less the same, and I figured I'd dip my toes in the FPGA scene through the Pocket. As the current firmware stands, I'm not disappointed, and I find the display to be much better to look at than the displays on the Nintendo original hardware I have. I appreciate the thickness after having hand cramps with my GBA SP. I like having a dedicated headphone jack and a non-proprietary charging port. I think it's a great modernization of the Game Boy lineup.
However, I don't think I'll get another product from Analogue again in the future because I do not like how they deal with PR. If anyone in my circle of friends were to ask me about the Pocket, the best I'd say is "recommend with reservations" if they have carts...or "not recommend" if they don't have carts.
Also, I don't think any handheld is great for NGPC other than the NGPC. The clicky wheel is its most unique feature.
I'm probably the 45th guy to take issue with "lukewarm sequel" regarding Final Fight 3.
Final Fight 3 has more content than the original, and it helped that it was designed for the SNES to begin with. However, it had the misfortune to be released at the tail end of the beat-em-up craze AND following the release of the PlayStation 1.
Man. I'm not sure what's going over at NLife, but since the Snow Bros review, it's as if the posts have less research than before.
@DogDetective There's a precedent of sorts. The first print of the Hong Kong release of Super Robot Wars 30 (another Bamco game) came with DLC codes that had to be redeemed on the Japanese eShop.
Or it may be just as well that there's going to be a later re-release like G-Generation Cross Rays got - all the DLC in one cart.
Judging by the gameplay footage, this one seems to visually resemble Final Fight more than Streets of Rage. Which is not a bad thing at all.
Also, I think this might be my favorite modern beat-em-up. I definitely liked Streets of Rage 4, but the lack of dash on demand put a crimp on my play style.
@Bunkerneath The thing in the 90s was that the entry barrier for development was much higher. It was higher risk, for unknown reward.
There really was no way for hobbyists to suddenly decide that they want to make games. Now, you have cross-platform kits like Unity or Unreal that allow bedroom coders to make their own games of any scale, not to mention royalty-free assets. The entry barrier for making games is lower than ever, though success is as questionable as ever.
@Mando44646 Same. I would have been interested if we were to get something that adapts Journey to the West beyond just decorations. Like an adventure, action or strategy game.
@OorWullie SF30th got a physical release in North America and Europe. I just did a search on Amazon USA, and there are a couple third party sellers selling the PEGI release for just under $30.
Is it just me who feels like whenever a developer or publisher pulls the "let us know if you want something" line, it's just another way of saying "beg for it, and maybe we'll think about it"?
@luxoricious 4 or 5, I think this depends on how you interpret Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
On the one hand, it was possible back in the Genesis/MD days to play Sonic and Knuckles on its own without Sonic 3 plugged in. On the other hand, it seemed to be Sega's original intention to treat Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles as one game. Nothing has been official revealed as to how that's going to be presented in this version.
@Rhaoulos That's an interesting interpretation of fan service.
When I think fan service, I look at all the Super Robot Wars titles that have been released to date. Just pile a bunch of giant robots, some bigger than others, into a random universe and have them join forces and fight their antagonists.
@Owozifa You raise a good point about "brand." I didn't really have any other thought about LRG other than just being another publisher who does random games, and occasionally promotes something that tickles my fancy...but River City Zero definitely made me go "wha...seriously?"
What the heck is this?? It's one thing to sneak in a publisher or developer logo into an in-game billboard or ad, but to have the logo as a permanent border? Granted, you can change it, but this definitely feels like flaunting.
@Specter_of-the_OLED I don't mind that XC3 is shaping up to have extremely similar box art. That said, the FF box arts, while consistent, do feature representation of one of each title's major themes in the logo (FF4's Kain, FF7's Meteor, FF8's love story, etc.)
I can wait. In fact, as @Enigk says, given the rising costs of essentials, it'd probably behoove me to wait.
When I was considering whether to get a new console before buying the Switch, my spouse advised, "list five games you want to play on the console, and they have to be either exclusive titles or feature exclusive content." I thought that was a very reasonable piece of advice, and ended up with the Switch.
@Mikey_205 Are you me? I’m in my late 30s and the NES was my first console, though I racked up the most hours on the SNES. But like you, it takes a particular shade of rose for me to be able to go back and play a good chunk of the NES library, though I generally do not mind the 16-bit-ness of the SNES (and Genesis) lineup.
That said, like some others here, I am definitely at a point where I don’t go far too back into a long-running series anymore. I did play the remade FF1 and 2 on the GBA, as well as SMB1-3 in both NES and SNES versions…but that really is about it.
@mariomaster96 Square-Enix is just the name that binds numerous development teams together. Whatever a team works on and releases is billed as a Square Enix game. That’s why their releases run the quality gamut from lauded to horrible. I found this on google so mind potential accuracy questions: https://squarebd1.wordpress.com/all-of-square-enixs-business-divisions-detailed/
This post is not meant to defend them; in a way, it’s meant to highlight the jankiness of the company.
@sketchturner Speaking as someone who grew up playing NES and SNES games, it is definitely possible that some people are embellishing their memories and looking back with rose-tinted glasses.
That said, I think that more realistically kids at the time had much more time and energy to dedicate to perfecting a run. Part not having to deal with adulting, and part not being free to buy any game at the drop of a dime.
@Cwiiis My guess is because the arcade version features 4 players, and the devs wanted to prioritize that. You can’t deny the chaos when you have more than 2 playable characters running, jumping, slashing and falling.
If I recall correctly, in the SNES version, the second player’s character is pre-determined when 1P is starting out solo. Only after a game over were you able to freely choose which turtle you want to play as.
@Travisemo007 I’ve used both types - the EarPod/OG AirPod-style no-silicon tip and the AirPod Pro-style silicon tip, and I can say that at the end of the day, it’s personal preference based on what you want to prioritize, and that neither type is inherently better or worse; in many ways, it’s like comparing apples and oranges. Also, ear shape plays a significant role in comfort, so what fits great for one person may not even fit in another person’s ears.
I hated the EarPods when they were first released. They never stayed in my ears unless I was sitting still. But when the AirPods were first released, the lack of a cable made a world of difference; I came to realize that no cable meant no gravity pulling the buds down, and the AirPods sat comfortably even when I was running while wearing them.
My personal favorite though are earphones with triple flange tips (https://www.techhive.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/er4sr_er4xr_reg_tip_straight_cord_pair_jpg-100794287-orig.jpg?quality=50&strip=all&w=1024). These are deep insertion types - they fill your ears beyond most silicon tips. On the one hand, because of the extra isolation, you don’t have to raise the volume as much, thereby lowering the risk of hearing loss. Also, there is little to no leakage - you could blast the volume and people around you will barely hear a peep. On the other hand, because of the extra isolation, I would not dare wear these when I’m walking outdoors because I lose all situational awareness.
Comfort is subjective; I actually prefer the filling sensation. However, there are those who find the sensation suffocating.
The EarPods and non-pro AirPods have the opposite results. They are less isolating, so they still help you maintain at least SOME situational awareness in public. Also, because of the different shape, the sound waves would travel differently and subsequently present a different sound signature. However, in places with a lot of ambient noise, you would have a harder time listening so that can force you to increase the volume and consequently increase the risk for hearing loss. And the louder you play, the more leakage there will be around you.
So yeah. My guess is that domed buds are mainstream because they allow lesser sound leakage in public. But each form has their own features and shortcomings. It’s up to the listener to determine what feature is a plus and what feature is a minus.
On a tangent, my partner apparently can't decide which guy to date on Stardew Valley. I find her apprehension more nerve-wracking than actually making a decision lol - hurry up and make up your mind!
@SteamEngenius Hobbies and affinities can be fun for one person and strange for another.
I'm a bit biased as I do actually enjoy playing GB/C/A games on original hardware, so take that how you will. I can't speak for other fans, but for me, there's a certain appeal about the simplicity of older handhelds.
I didn't quite get it at first when I watched the Immortals preview with descriptive audio, so I closed my eyes and listened to the other two previews linked in the article. It was like listening in to a tabletop session of Dungeons and Dragons, what with the narrator describing the action, and the characters sounding off their own yells and quips. I found myself drawing out the scenes in my head based on the narration. Very "theater of the mind," if you will.
Now, I'm a seeing person, so my perspective will be very skewed from that of someone who has either partial sight or no sight. I've played enough video games and watched enough shows and movies of various settings and aesthetics to be able to mentally draw what's being said, but I cannot even begin to guess how someone with no vision would interpret all this.
Being a seeing person, I find myself agreeing with @SteamEngenius in that I'd end up taking on a different hobby, but I say that because TO ME, video games are more visual than auditory or tactile in many ways. I am very sure that someone who was born with congenital visual impairments would think differently.
To those wondering what kind of controls will be available, Forever Entertainment left a few comment replies in the YouTube video page saying "You can use gyro ", and when asked whether players would be able to calibrate, their response was "there's reset button."
So my guess is that the reload button will do double-duty as the reset button.
@Snatcher I played the Mac port years ago. I thought it was fun for what it was. At least up to that point, I thought it was the closest thing to Star Wars meets Dynasty Warriors.
@Anti-Matter Good luck on that, and I say that with zero sarcasm towards you. Music license holders are smarter today about these kinds of licensing deals. Even if Konami has a dedicated home gaming team, the rights holders will stop them in their tracks.
Man, I miss home DDR. Not home StepMania, home DDR.
@Anti-Matter In case you aren’t aware, they actually did release a home PC iteration some time ago. It’s a subscription model, and the song list is lacking, but I wouldn’t mind a subscription if they can bring the majority of A20 to the home player. It might even be cheaper in the long run.
@rushiosan I recall Ikaruga giving you extra credits proportionate to the amount of play time you rack up - something like one extra credit for every hour.
@rushiosan At least the iOS ports of the Ray games have “unlimited” continues. You lose your lives, you get the continue countdown and you can continue again.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #101 - Final Fantasy VI
@BloodNinja You mentioning Amano reminded me of how Square would mix up box art aesthetics for regions.
The NES/SNES releases have the same text logo with a mostly simple background, while Japan got a mix of Amano (1,2,3,6) and stylized 3D (4,5).
Then for the PS and PS2, NA gets some form of 3D while JP and EU get logos with solid backgrounds.
Then on the GBA, everyone got logo-on-blank for 1/2 and Amano for 4,5,6, albeit different artwork.
Couldn't make up their minds.

Re: The House Of The Dead: Remake Is Alive, Gets Switch Release Date
To those wondering what kind of controls will be available, Forever Entertainment left a few comment replies in the YouTube video page saying "You can use gyro ", and when asked whether players would be able to calibrate, their response was "there's reset button."
So my guess is that the reload button will do double-duty as the reset button.
Re: Review: River City Girls Zero - An Authentic, Endearing 16-Bit Brawler Romp
I've ordered from LRG numerous times, and I don't regret it, but the blatant advertisement in the wallpaper is ridiculous.
Re: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Is Coming To Switch This April, Pre-Orders Now Live
@Snatcher I played the Mac port years ago. I thought it was fun for what it was. At least up to that point, I thought it was the closest thing to Star Wars meets Dynasty Warriors.
Re: Konami Is Committed To NFTs In Order To Preserve Beloved Content As "Commemorative Art"
Re: Konami Is Committed To NFTs In Order To Preserve Beloved Content As "Commemorative Art"
@Anti-Matter In case you aren’t aware, they actually did release a home PC iteration some time ago. It’s a subscription model, and the song list is lacking, but I wouldn’t mind a subscription if they can bring the majority of A20 to the home player. It might even be cheaper in the long run.
Re: Taito's RayForce Is Coming To Switch, According To New Taiwanese Rating
@rushiosan I recall Ikaruga giving you extra credits proportionate to the amount of play time you rack up - something like one extra credit for every hour.
Re: Taito's RayForce Is Coming To Switch, According To New Taiwanese Rating
@PosterBoy They messed up Psikyo and Cotton. What else am I missing?
Re: Taito's RayForce Is Coming To Switch, According To New Taiwanese Rating
@rushiosan At least the iOS ports of the Ray games have “unlimited” continues. You lose your lives, you get the continue countdown and you can continue again.
