I wonder if Strikers was originally to have a complimenting GBA game, like the Mario Tennis and Mario Golf games. I know Camelot didn't make Strikers, but the idea may have been in place to follow a similar path where the GBA version would have offered an RPG mode where you play as an original human like character in the Mario world, and that character could even then be transferred to the console counterpart.
@KingMike Words with Friends is actually quite different from this and Wordle. Words with Friends is like Scrabble, while Wordle and it's true clones are like the old 2000s game show Lingo.
@MetalKingShield I've become a big fan of Nerdle, super satisfying solving those, and it's not just multiple Wordle games at once, it's an actually unique and clever spin on the formula.
@lemonjellydude Wordle really is nothing special, if you ever saw the game show Lingo in the early 2000s, it's literally the exact same thing, just in your browser. That's what makes me so disgusted with NYT buying Wordle for 7 figures, it wasn't even an original idea in the slightest.
Shame Mario Party Superstars isn't on sale. I get it though, it's pretty new, Nintendo rarely discounts a game so soon after release. Still, I want the game, just not for full price, unless some free DLC drops and adds a couple of new boards.
Why not add games to it? I bet they start with Wii Sports Club/Resort as their base for the mechanics of each motion controls sport, and build the new Switch version around that. If that's the case, there are still a lot of sports they've done in the past that they could probably get working pretty easily on the Switch.
Maybe they aren't going for opposites at all, and are instead mimicking the 3 original titles outside of Japan: Red, Blue, and later Yellow, to make up the 3 primary colors of the RYB color model. (If they hadn't used Green already in Japan, a second gen of Green, Orange and Purple (secondary colors of the RYB model, made by mixing 2 primary colors together) would have been perfect.)
Now, I'm not exactly sure if Violet and Scarlet really land together in a trifecta of related colors, but maybe they can if not in the RYB model, than in the RGB model, and if so maybe they're leaving it open for a possible third entry to drop later to complete the trifecta.
"Scarlet and Violet aren't even opposites" neither are Ruby and Sapphire, Pearl and Diamond, or Red and Blue (notably, the Red and Green Japanese originals could be regarded as opposites as red and green are opposite of each other on the color wheel). Heck Gold and Silver aren't opposites either, but they are a logical pairing all the same.
Regardless, I don't mind the names, but I wish they took it a step further and named them Pokemon Infrared and Pokemon Ultraviolet. Naming the 2 titles for colors that we can't see.
It'd be awesome if they combined all their Party Pack games into a single release, I know they're are 8 of those so far, that'd be quite an amazing selection of party games in a single title. Make it happen!
@Edu23XWiiU The Silent Hill series would disagree. The HD remasters that removed the fog were notoriously terrible with one large reason being that the uneasy mood of the originals got largely lost in the remasters without the fog.
I still think the placement of the d-pad and ABXY buttons on the device looks super uncomfortable, though I'm really not sure how else you could situate them without further making it even larger and while still giving the touch pads decent placements. I dunno, maybe it could have done without the touch pads entirely and instead relied on motion control for those aspects of the device. I mean sacrifices are being made by the player to play on the go with the device as it is. Seems like a sacrifice that could really help with the overall comfort and size of the device.
People also thought Octopath Traveller was a bad name, but I've always unironically loved both titles, they're genuinely memorable and you are quickly given an idea of what you're in for. I dunno, we don't always have to overthink this stuff, ya know?
I'm not sure the term mainline really matters for Pokemon at this point. It seems to me that what they've done is set up 4 (maybe 5 depending on how you count things) tiers of the kinds of Pokemon games they can make:
-Core next generation installments -Classic remakes of past core entries -Let's Go versions of past core entries -and now the Legends more open world entries
-Arguably there is a 5th tier that kinda encompasses the supplemental releases: 3rd entries, sequels, deluxe versions, and DLC. It sounds like these entries will probably just be DLC now though (unless maybe we see sequels again like Black and White did), so it's a bit harder to count this now as a separate tier.
Point is, the Pokemon Company which is probably at least 3 teams now, and willing to outsource for their remakes as we saw with the gen 4 remakes, probably has a 5 year plan that they can rinse and repeat indefinitely. Hypothetically, this could be what we are looking at:
2023: Let's Go Johto 2024: Gen 9 2025: Gen 9 DLC 2026: Black and White Remakes (wonder if Black 2 and White 2 will also be a part of their inevitable remakes somehow) 2027: Legends: Kyurem (consider Kyurem's name a placeholder here, because I think the title would actually be the name of the unrevealed dragon that eventually split to become Zekrom and Reshiram).
Rinse and repeat. Also, tell me I'm wrong that the next Legends game (if we get one) wouldn't be about that Pokemon, it's so perfect, especially if the game goes hand in hand with gen 5 remakes like this one did with the gen 4 remakes, and because it takes place in the past, the timing works to reveal what that Pokemon that split in two was to being with.
Reminds me of this guy who makes amazing Pokemon products with clever uses. Like this Pichu that charges your phone with its cheek: https://youtu.be/tD23Q4Qz4OM
@Dinklebot I wouldn't really call it lazy, just a different way of bringing the games to LEGO, plus the Mario sets are an official ongoing series of LEGO, while this is a 1-off set that came from a fan's submission that got enough votes. It's really hard to compare them as if they're in the same league.
There wont be a Switch Pro, but there will probably be a Switch 2 (maybe with a different name of course), and I imagine in addition to also be a hybrid system, it will also be backward compatible with OG Switch games. So for those waiting for a Pro version of the Switch, it seems likely that the next system will double as that.
While on the thought, I get this feeling that Nintendo will capitalize on their large Switch install base with the next system. With what will be over 100 million Switch owners, Nintendo could try and make 2 screen gaming a thing again (but they'd be smart to always make it an optional feature). Any owner of a Switch 2 and Switch 1 in theory could play the Switch 2 docked on the TV, while using their original Switch in portable mode as a controller with a large screen by having the 2 systems able to link up to each other. Then released games could receive patches for new optional controls (say bringing quick inventory management to BOTW without having to pause, and being able to browse the map and fast travel, again without pausing, or bringing back the minigames for Splatoon 3 to play on the portable screen while you wait for a match to end, etc. etc.), and new games could have options you can enable if you have 2 Switch devices.
@BanjoPickles That only makes sense if the Switch 2 is like a year or 2 away. With the momentum the original Switch still has, I honestly don't think it's successor will come for at least 3 more years. They're getting some DS/3DS life out of the handheld beast.
I'm really glad that someone like Martinet who fully embraces and and loves his career as the voice of Mario and Co, is the man with the job. Clearly the man is a fan to say the least.
Well this seems like a reasonable way to appease everyone. I mean I'd rather we were talking about the unofficially released remaster, but by releasing the original in the current day to Xbox, I have to imagine that bodes well for the original releasing to the Switch's N64 service in the near future.
Of all the Zelda titles I'd love to see get an anime treatment, I think my top would be Majora's Mask, but Twilight Princess is definitely up there, and with a complete manga series to go off of, it seems like it could be a relatively straightforward way to adapt the series into such a format if they ever wanted to. Not to say they ever will, but great starting source material is clearly already there.
I've played this mod, parts of it are great and for the better, parts are just kinda dumb. The whole hunger system part of the mod sounds unique and potentially more engaging on paper, but in reality, its a new tweak to the game that's for the worse that needlessly slows things down. Luckily you can pick and choose many of the mods you do or don't want to use in Second Wind, and I'd say overall it's worth having a go, but I'd say you can skip on the 'Survival of the Wild' or hunger system part of the mod.
"Nintendo should be more like Microsoft and Sony." This rhetoric above all else, should die. Nintendo simply does not care what Sony and Microsoft are doing, they will do their own thing regardless, be it a success like the Wii or Switch or a failure like the GameCube or especially Wii U. Whether they succeed or fail is always on them and their output, not because they didn't copy the competition well enough.
@ThaBEN nah, that definitely looks like it could easily be 1125 LEGO pieces. I've done enough builds in recent years to recognize that that number definitely looks legit from the image alone. As for 18+ sets, a lot of these idea builds lately have been marked as such. Check out the Seinfeld set, same age range: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/kAAAAOSw7RBhE6MV/s-l640.png
Up until now. I always put Ubisoft a tier below the likes of EA, Activision, and Take Two, in terms of being greedy and unforgiving to the customer. But I think now with their big NFT push and misconduct allegations, it's probably fair to lump them in with the worst of them now.
"Many people may think doing these big projects will be a waste of time, but they don't understand that once they finish they will remembered by others through the accomplishments."
@Euler There's only so much customization you can do for an avatar on such a small scale. Granted they all do seem to adhere to pretty much the same scale, but you can't blame them as that's probably the best they can do in terms of having decent screen real estate for things to be happening around your character on a system with a screen as small as the Game Boy.
Jesus, the amount of content that they can (and will) make for Pokemon, truly is endless, this is a 30 minute ASMR video for a single Pokemon of 900+ we currently are at, and not gonna lie, it's pretty damn adorable, my eyes can't look away from it. I'm not saying I expect an official ASMR video for every Pokemon, but stuff like this just kinda makes me realize that they have no shortage of things that they can make for the Pokemon franchise, and they do seem to making more content than ever these days at that.
I really feel like it's misguided to believe that Nintendo will be properly competing with any of these gaming PC handhelds. Why? Because have you ever considered standard PC gaming to be in direct competition with whatever Nintendo's latest system is? I know I haven't. PC gamers exist in their own bubble, many of which double down by also owning a gaming system anyway, often, Nintendo's latest offering, since their games don't officially come to PC. Point is I feel that this coming "competition" isn't going to have much influence on whatever Nintendo is doing at all.
Fact of the matter is, the Wii was pretty much just an extension on the GameCube's life. A late model refresh now boasting motion controls, is really all the Wii is. Sony and Microsoft however had moved on in the traditional way of a full generation upgrade. So in a sense, Nintendo's proper competitor for the PS3 and 360, was the Wii U, but the Wii U was much too late to that party to have made any impact. I do wonder how things would have fared for the device that is the Wii U, if it had released when the Wii had instead. Obviously the Wii was a success regardless, but it kinda faded out instead of closing strong, had it's power been more in line with the PS3 and 360, it could have done even better than it did.
I love how classic gaming systems live on strong these days by the homebrew scenes. It's 2021 and there are still NES games being made, probably a safe bet that in 2031 there will even still be NES games being made. And I just think that's neat.
