@GannonBanned nah, my money says that they had to renegotiate a deal with Netflix, and the terms were not to Netflix's liking, so they passed on bringing the service to the system as well as on giving ongoing support to their legacy 3DS and Wii U versions. If Nintendo was into testing a streaming service on the Switch, one would think that they'd have opted for the more popular Netflix over Hulu. Hell they just added Twitch the other day too, so clearly streaming services aren't forbidden on the device. It's gotta just be contract nonsense that has had Netflix passing on the system.
It's an interesting way to approach the 2 title nature of Pokemon games. But I can't say there is any good reason to be upset by it, the means through with the result is accomplished is the same end result as before with the one real difference being that hackers could, if they want, switch over to the other game within the same title without buying the second title. But even that is pretty pointless, as modders typically don't have much of a problem with pirating a game, especially a second version of one they already may have.
Given Nintendo's record of following up their biggest successes with direct sequel systems (SNES after the NES, GBA after GB/C, the 3DS after the DS, and the Wii U after the Wii), I have to imagine it's pretty much a given that Nintendo's next system will essentially be a 'Switch 2'. Especially since Sony and Microsoft aren't tackling the portable side of the market. Nintendo would have to hate money if they ditch the hybrid concept with their next device.
@GannonBanned yet Hulu is completely OK on the Switch? Nintendo's stance on streaming video apps on Switch doesn't make a ton of sense. Like it almost seems like what you're saying is the case, that they only want it to be a gaming device, yet services like Hulu and YouTube quickly prove that isn't the case. Don't get me wrong, I don't ever expect to see Netflix on the system at this point, but the lack of it on the system really doesn't seem to come down to some mandate that streaming apps can't be on the system when there already are a few of them.
It'd be great if they made an OLED Switch Lite, which almost makes more sense, since that model can only be played looking at its screen.
Cuz I kinda wanna get a second Switch, but not the OLED model, I'd rather get the Lite model at this point, especially if I were to install one of those translucent color shells.
I imagine a Game Boy and/or GBA channel are inevitable. Maybe Master System and/or Game Gear as well. But that's the extent I can fathom the service expanding beyond what it is. Like MAYBE Sega Saturn games could be added too. But I don't see GameCube, Wii, or Dreamcast happening. I'd love to see other companies beyond Sega, like the Turbografx16, MSX, or Neo Geo, but those would probably have to come with another price increase and with the backlash already seen for the expansion pass price increase, I really don't see this happening either, despite how much I'd love to see it.
@thaimbomb I still love the 3D aspect of the 3DS, I genuinely never turned it off. Frankly I was hoping that Nintendo would have made a pro Switch that offered better performance, or if in handheld mode, you could trade the better performance for normal Switch performance but with the added stereoscopic effect for any game they could choose to create updates for.
Heck, BOTW can be experience in 3D via Labo VR, probably wouldn't be much of a problem to get that same kind of effect with a glasses-free 3D screen like the 3DS.
If the next Nintendo system is essentially a Switch 2, then I think the simple solution would be to just make a Deluxe version of Ultimate. Have Sakurai come back but not, build anything drastically different from what is already there. Just add maybe 4 or 5 more fighters and add some new and/or missing modes and call out a day.
No lie, I'd pay another $60 for that game, assuming it's now in 4K and contains some of my most desired missing modes including a proper Boss Rush and especially Smash Run.
Thing is, you just know that a very specific group of people is getting way more arousal and pleasure from 20 Bunnies, than what most typical people will get out of 20 Ladies
@Lord lol, you realize that Niantic doesn't make any console Nintendo games right? They only make mobile games. Them spending any time on this kind of mobile app has no affect on how much time the team actually making Pikmin 4 will be taking to create the game.
While this will never feel like a game that so naturally lends itself to real world integration like Pokemon was with Pokemon Go, I do concede that Pikmin lends itself well to being an AR experience, and I'm intrigued to see how the series will play in AR.
@Don For what it's worth, it's probably a safe bet that Nintendo's next system will essentially be a 'Switch 2', and if they're smart, all games and services from the first Switch will continue to work on the successor. So a GBA app released near the end of the OG Switch's life, could still stick around for another 5 or 6 years for the follow-up system.
@cmbaum unless they later expand the 38 item list, there is no room for Space Station Silicon Valley with how they've alphabetically filled in the list. Which is a shame as it's a great hidden gem of the system.
I have doubts on how many Rare games we'll get. I think for sure DK64, Banjo Kazooie, and Perfect Dark will join. More like Diddy Kong Racing, Tooie, or Jet Force Gemini are certainly possible, but I think they'll want to diversify the 3rd party offerings a bit, so a sequel from Rare and another kart racer on top of the already included MK64 feel a little less likely to me.
And considering the N64 Turok games are already available on the Switch, I really doubt they'd join the service as well (likewise for Doom 64 and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer).
Finally, to your earlier question, I think any Cruis'n game for the system could easily happen is because Nintendo themselves published the N64 versions of those games to the N64, with Cruis'n USA being one of the few 3rd party N64 games that was also released on the original Wii's virtual console.
@Rhaoulos is not all that odd when you recognize that outside of the great 1st and 2nd party games released on the N64, there weren't that many great 3rd party titles worth adapting to the service. While the Genesis was loaded with great games from many developers. Furthermore, the total N64 library is rather small compared to the total number of games that the Genesis saw. I'm not surprised at all to see that the Genesis will end up with more games than the N64.
Small shame that based on the game names they've confirmed that there is no room for Space Station Silicon Valley to appear. That's a great little forgotten gem of the N64.
@Mattock1987 I have doubts that any game with real people in the roster will make the cut as that carries extra licensing fees. For that reason I also didn't include any Blitz game despite the fact that I think they'd be a great fit. Granted, Tecmo Bowl on NES Online has removed all real world player names, but that's probably way easier to accomplish in an old NES rom, especially one that doesn't audibly call out names at that.
Working within those confines coupled with the N64 VC releases we saw on the Wii U, and below is my best guess of what Nintendo intends to release for N64 online. Titles denoted with an * are those that I have less confidence in and believe that one of the substitutes at the end could instead stand in for those ones that I'm less sure of. Here we go:
1. 1080 Snowboarding
2. Banjo-Kazooie
3. Banjo-Tooie*
4. Bomberman 64*
5. Bomberman Hero*
6. Donkey Kong 64
7. Dr. Mario 64
8. Excitebike 64
9. F-Zero X
10. Harvest Moon 64*
11. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
12. Mario Golf
13. Mario Kart 64
14. Mario Party
15. Mario Party 2
16. Mario Party 3
17. Mario Tennis
18. Mega Man 64*
19. Mischief Makers*
20. Mystical Ninja Goemon*
21. Ogre Battle 64
22. Paper Mario
23. Perfect Dark
24. Pilotwings 64
25. Pokemon Puzzle League
26. Pokemon Snap
27. Pokemon Stadium 2
28. Resident Evil 2*
29. Sin & Punishment
30. Star Fox 64
31. Super Mario 64
32. Super Smash Bros
33. Wave Race 64
34. Win Back
35. Worms Armageddon*
36. Yoshi's Story
37. Zelda Majora's Mask
38. Zelda Ocarina of Time
If a title doesn't have an asterisk next to them, I think they're essentially a given at this point. Initially I wouldn't have thought that the first Mario Party would be considered, but there really is no other third game that reasonably could have appeared between Mario Kart and Mario Tennis alphabetically.
*Alternates - These are strong contenders that easily could replace some that I have marked above with an asterisk:
Bomberman 64 The Second Attack
Cruis'n USA
Cruis'n World
Diddy Kong Racing
Pokemon Stadium
Rayman 2
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
Quest 64
Wipeout 64
I Know Diddy Kong Racing seems like an obvious given, but I'm not so sure, whatever deal they've worked out with Rare might be kinda limiting, I imagine Conker's Bad Fur Day likely isn't joining the roster, nor is Goldeneye for obvious reasons, for this reason, I'm not even sure that Banjo-Tooie will arrive after the original does. Plus for DKR, with Mario Kart 64 already in there, they may not feel there is much need for another Kart Racer in the collection.
It seems redundant to me, to include both Pokemon Stadium and Pokemon Stadium 2, yet at the same time, I really would not be surprised to see both join the service. Still, I'm inclined to think we'll only see 2 in the service which is why I didn't include the first title in my main guess.
I feel like Warner is way too broad of a base to work from. They should focus it in a little and try another take at a Cartoon Network brawler. I know there was one around 2008 or 2009, but that one left a lot to be desired. And when I say Cartoon Network, I mean go all in, not just Cartoon Network originals, but Adult Swim stuff too and the classic stuff like Scooby-Doo an all that other stuff they still air on Boomerang.
Its weird, Mario Party 2 reused some minigames from 1, and the few that used stick rotation substituted vigorously tapping the A or B button, so why bring back the stick rotation here, when the same kind of control scheme could easily be a perfect substitute here as well?
@Eel I get it, Pokemon are different from animals. I know, I know, but all the same, as I said, it's the one evil organization in the series that really still feels like it has some genuine merit with their presented ideology. We can excuse it away all we wish with the idea that Pokemon live to battle and want to be captured from the wild, but that's putting a lot of faith in thoughts that we can't confirm since Pokemon (in general) can't directly tell us this. And I've not seen one piece of anime where a psychic Pokemon or Meowth has confirmed that it's what they all live for.
Furthermore, if Pokemon want to be captured, why do they all fight you and need to be weakened in order to be caught? Doesn't exactly feel like it's what they truly desire. And sure after they're caught they seem to want to be your Pokemon, but what if that's just the work of the technologically advanced Pokeballs editing their brain's code, to essentially brainwash them into thinking that's what they've always wanted?
I dunno, it's dumb to speculate over a silly video game series, but again, this is the one organization in the games that really has given me pause over the years and had me consider what it is they claim to be fighting for.
@Eel I know I know, I played the games, they find a way to not make it out to be the messy issue it is, by instead changing their actual goal into something else. I get that. But, the reality is, the point they claim to have is actually a real issue that should be addressed, but nope they were genuinely evil the whole time so just forget about it.
Regardless, that doesn't make his speech he give here any less true, and if they had undercut it with Pokemon needlessly fighting each other in battles their trainers put them in, instead of Pokemon just being cute and getting lots of affection from their trainers, then it would really further hit home that the points he was making actually do have some real merit.
@mariomaster96 Considering the update says that Professor Oak received the footage and was able to restore it. It would seem that this video likely takes place long after Legends Arceus. I mean the region itself doesn't just disappear just because time has gone on, right?
Team Plasma always struck me as the one evil organization that really were overall more right than they were wrong. And I kinda gotta laugh in how they got around that in the scene where he's addressing everyone about liberating Pokemon. All the trainers' Pokemon in that scene are cute and just being little pets that are getting nothing but affection. If they had instead showed that speech with footage of trainers needlessly battling their Pokemon with other Pokemon and kicking the ***** out of each other, then in that moment he'd have seem absolutely in the right instead of much more in the wrong as they have presented it.
Shame Link's Awakening DX isn't the version on board. Only reason I can guess they didn't go that route is because it wouldn't be able to make use of the Game Boy Printer for the photo hut pictures, and they weren't about to edit the code and remove all mentions of that feature.
Enough of these collections and spinoffs, it's time for a proper Mega Man X9 already. Also, bring back Battle Network, that series is too good to stay dead so long.
You'd be better off calling your games Super something or Legend of something, if the plan is to game the system, since yeah I don't think too many tend to list alphabetically, but they will search for key words in big titles for the system.
@Anti-Matter Its certainly a place full of counterfeits and fakes, but I don't know how one could call it boring. Hell, the fact that it's so oversaturated with weird counterfeits alone makes it a genuinely interesting place. I love seeing the strange things to come out of China because copyright laws have next to no power there.
At some point he will have to hand off the baton, Smash will go on for years and years to come, and he both wants to and should retire at some point. He's been a brilliant guiding hand for the series over the last 2 decades and change, I can only hope that whoever succeeds him is even half as great handling the series as he has been.
@andre11894 Alone? Not so much, I've floated the idea around a few times to find that others are supportive. It's not hard to include all 5 games, they'd just be separate experiences, not sure why you think the fact that they don't take place in the same time period somehow makes such an idea impossible.
And if you think the fact that I collectively view it as the full GTA 3 experience is baffling, then I dunno what to tell you, there is plenty of media taking place across different locales with different characters that are collectively a part of the same single piece of media. Hell, GTA I, lets you play as different characters in those 3 different regions. I dunno if they take place in different times, but I don't see why they couldn't without somehow breaking the game lol.
@HotGoomba Official Genesis controllers on a Nintendo system, the kind of news that would have broken the schoolyard back in grade school. Nevermind the idea that Sonic is a fighter in the same official fighter series that Mario stars in.
I'm surprised they're including the whole expansion bay portion of the N64 controller. I have to assume that it's just aesthetic, but is there some sort of chance it will actually be functional? For that matter, will the N64 controller have rumble built into it for games that could use a rumble pack?
@Joeynator3000 Yeah this, I thought these 2DS systems might be an indication that Nintendo was considering bringing the aesthetic back, but I guess those were just a one off. Shame, as translucent colored Switch Lites just seem like a no brainer.
I don't understand why this aesthetic ever dropped. It's very reminiscent of the turn of the millennium, I'm sure many of us remember those Apple computers at the time that had the translucent colored backs, not to mention the brief fad of Cybiko, in addition to all the GBCs, GBAs, funtastic N64s, and even one of the official GameCube controllers had half transparent in the back and half purple in the front. But then suddenly, we hit like 2006 and nothing was touching the aesthetic again at all, for what reason, I'll never know.
What genius behind this design decided to put the thumbsticks on the same level? This is supposed to be a reimagined controller for the Switch, not for a PlayStation. Seriously, this one design choice alone will ensure I don't bother here.
Bah, what a sad costume. I like Among Us as a gaming concept, but I sure hope children can recognize how unimaginative a costume like this would be for Halloween.
@Chamver It'd also be legit exposure. Someone trying to make it as an artist would have quite the feather in their cap to say their artwork is an official Pokemon card.
These cloud streaming services aren't messing around. Clearly Nvidia intends to continue to offer the latest and greatest offerings they can in their streaming service, Xbox Cloud gaming isn't about to disappear, even Nintendo is offering major AAA titles too intense for the Switch in viable streaming options, PlayStation Now quietly chugs along, and Google Stadia... tried. Point is, I don't think game streaming is going to disappear any time soon despite how much people scoffed it off when it was making a big push a couple of years ago. Some services may stumble and fail, but it clearly has a future, and I think that's interesting.
@Bratwurst35 lol that isn't even close to the situation happening here. You think Nintendo isn't making millions off of Zelda?!?! This small town indie dood, is fine in my book to make a few thousand while I continue to net millions.
But again, as I've said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations than my personal preference.
@jsty3105 Like I said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations.
Gotta love that tweet ready to complain about something that they wouldn't complain about at all, if Nintendo simply continued to not add any other systems to the online service. Such people really annoy me lol.
@GoshJosh Like I said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations.
To your last point, if you sell the rights of your IP to Disney, then Disney becomes the owner of the IP and as I said, they would get final say on such matters.
@jsty3105 I mean that ***** sucks, though I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with Nintendo in this situation. Ultimately whoever owns the IP is who gets to give these kinds of things clearance or not. And I get that. Were it my IP, I'd be completely OK with these kinds of things existing, but I'm also not thinking huge picture here either, I can see how even when the fans have the best of intentions that the IP holder still thinks that such a release could be somewhat "damaging" to the brand in one way or another, and as such I can see how and why they might pull such things.

Its weird, Mario Party 2 reused some minigames from 1, and the few that used stick rotation substituted vigorously tapping the A or B button, so why bring back the stick rotation here, when the same kind of control scheme could easily be a perfect substitute here as well?
Re: Video: Pokémon Evolutions - Watch All Episodes Here
@Eel I get it, Pokemon are different from animals.
Re: Video: Pokémon Evolutions - Watch All Episodes Here
@Eel I know I know, I played the games, they find a way to not make it out to be the messy issue it is, by instead changing their actual goal into something else.
Re: Hisuian Zorua And Zoroark Revealed In Mysterious Pokémon Legends: Arceus Video
@mariomaster96 Considering the update says that Professor Oak received the footage and was able to restore it. It would seem that this video likely takes place long after Legends Arceus. I mean the region itself doesn't just disappear just because time has gone on, right?
Re: Video: Pokémon Evolutions - Watch All Episodes Here
Team Plasma always struck me as the one evil organization that really were overall more right than they were wrong.
Re: Suda51 Says It Would Be "Really Cool" To Reboot Or Remake Nintendo's Older IP
Ice Climbers and StarTropics could really use new reboots in the vain that Kid Icarus Uprising was for that series.
Plus if you release a new StarTropics internationally, it could make Mike Jones popular enough to be a contender for the next Smash Bros. game.
Re: Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda Gets A Snazzy New Trailer
Shame Link's Awakening DX isn't the version on board. Only reason I can guess they didn't go that route is because it wouldn't be able to make use of the Game Boy Printer for the photo hut pictures, and they weren't about to edit the code and remove all mentions of that feature.
Re: Mega Man X DiVE Datamine Uncovers References To Nintendo Switch
Enough of these collections and spinoffs, it's time for a proper Mega Man X9 already. Also, bring back Battle Network, that series is too good to stay dead so long.
Re: Random: The Battle For Alphabetical eShop Supremacy Ramps Up With 'a'
You'd be better off calling your games Super something or Legend of something, if the plan is to game the system, since yeah I don't think too many tend to list alphabetically, but they will search for key words in big titles for the system.
Re: Random: Oh Dear, Looks Like This Company's Advert Has Ripped Off A Pokémon Song
Re: Talking Point: #ThankYouSakurai For Smash Ultimate, Now He Should Choose His Own Path
At some point he will have to hand off the baton, Smash will go on for years and years to come, and he both wants to and should retire at some point. He's been a brilliant guiding hand for the series over the last 2 decades and change, I can only hope that whoever succeeds him is even half as great handling the series as he has been.
Re: Random: Sakurai Seems To Be Finally Taking A Break From Smash Bros. Development, With The PS5
I do love how much of a genuine gamer Sakurai is and always has been. No doubt the man truly followed his dreams in life.
Re: Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Reportedly Heading To Switch
Re: Random: Wait A Sec, That Sure Looks Like Mario In Sonic The Hedgehog's Marble Zone
@HotGoomba Official Genesis controllers on a Nintendo system, the kind of news that would have broken the schoolyard back in grade school. Nevermind the idea that Sonic is a fighter in the same official fighter series that Mario stars in.
Re: Poll: Do You Use The Black Or White Theme On Your Nintendo Switch?
The Switch hacking scene has some amazing looking themes, we definitely need some new official ones already.
Re: Switch's N64 Controller Is Hiding Some Extra Buttons
I'm surprised they're including the whole expansion bay portion of the N64 controller. I have to assume that it's just aesthetic, but is there some sort of chance it will actually be functional? For that matter, will the N64 controller have rumble built into it for games that could use a rumble pack?
Re: 'WATA Certified' Copy Of Sonic The Hedgehog Sells For Record Price
Wow, they're still doing this, even after the exposé and all eyes are on them.
Re: Talking Point: The Switch Is Following Nintendo's Successful Portable Playbook
I feel like the GBA revisions and the time between them is worth noting as well.
GBA → GBA SP (front lit) → GBA SP (back lit) → GBA Micro - 4 years 6 months
Re: Random: Luigi Has Been Found Inside The Dreamcast Prototype Of Sega GT
My guess is a placeholder using an employee's fan made model of Luigi he just had laying around.
Re: Random: Watch This Unboxing Of A Rare Transparent Green 2DS
Re: Rumour: It Looks Like Nintendo Will Soon Unveil A New Controller For Switch
Maybe they've finally redesigned the joy con so they won't drift anymore.
Re: This Reimagined GameCube Controller Offers Wireless Play, Pre-Orders Open Now
What genius behind this design decided to put the thumbsticks on the same level? This is supposed to be a reimagined controller for the Switch, not for a PlayStation. Seriously, this one design choice alone will ensure I don't bother here.
Re: Get Ready For A Sus Halloween: There's An Official Among Us Costume
Bah, what a sad costume. I like Among Us as a gaming concept, but I sure hope children can recognize how unimaginative a costume like this would be for Halloween.
Re: Pokémon Illustration Contest Could See Your Artwork Made Into An Official Trading Card
@Chamver It'd also be legit exposure. Someone trying to make it as an artist would have quite the feather in their cap to say their artwork is an official Pokemon card.
Re: Huge Nvidia Database Leak Lists Unannounced Third-Party Games
Re: Talking Point: Switch Vs. PS5 And Xbox - Nintendo Preps For The Holidays With A New SKU And European Price Cut
Seems that the inverted-Oreo look is the in-thing lately, Microsoft should release an Xbox where 2 opposite sides are white and the other 2 are black.
Re: Hand-Drawn Game Guide Kickstarter Taken Down Following "Legal Trouble"
@Bratwurst35 lol that isn't even close to the situation happening here. You think Nintendo isn't making millions off of Zelda?!?! This small town indie dood, is fine in my book to make a few thousand while I continue to net millions.
But again, as I've said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations than my personal preference.
Re: Hand-Drawn Game Guide Kickstarter Taken Down Following "Legal Trouble"
@jsty3105 Like I said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations.
Re: Random: Check Out These Mock-Ups Of Game Boy For Nintendo Switch Online
Gotta love that tweet ready to complain about something that they wouldn't complain about at all, if Nintendo simply continued to not add any other systems to the online service. Such people really annoy me lol.
Re: Hand-Drawn Game Guide Kickstarter Taken Down Following "Legal Trouble"
@GoshJosh Like I said, I'm not thinking bigger picture, but if I do I can easily see how my personal stance would align more with what Nintendo does do in these situations.
To your last point, if you sell the rights of your IP to Disney, then Disney becomes the owner of the IP and as I said, they would get final say on such matters.
Re: Hand-Drawn Game Guide Kickstarter Taken Down Following "Legal Trouble"
@jsty3105 I mean that ***** sucks, though I'm not entirely sure what it has to do with Nintendo in this situation. Ultimately whoever owns the IP is who gets to give these kinds of things clearance or not. And I get that. Were it my IP, I'd be completely OK with these kinds of things existing, but I'm also not thinking huge picture here either, I can see how even when the fans have the best of intentions that the IP holder still thinks that such a release could be somewhat "damaging" to the brand in one way or another, and as such I can see how and why they might pull such things.
