@ImBackBB Ok, why don't you go play Xenoblade Chronicles 3D on a regular 3DS too?
Or how about we regard it like this: Link's Awakening DX can be played on both a GB and GBC, but if played on a GBC, you'll get the added benefit of playing the game in full color. Likewise, let's play Hyrule Warriors: Legends on 3DS, if we do so on a regular 3DS, we get the game in 2D, and if we do on a New 3DS , we get the game with full stereoscopic 3D even though the regular 3DS can't play that game this way.
Surely, you can recognize how these are similar here in terms of being upgrades and not full on successors. At least I hope you do.
@ImBackBB mmmm gonna disagree. I know that's how they marketed it, but in actuality, all the GBC was, was an upgraded GB, not a full on successor, when many of its games in full color were still completely playable on a regular GB, I'd have to call that an upgrade not a full on successor. Yes it had some games that couldn't be played on the original GB, but so too did the DSi and N3DS, but they're still upgrades all the same, granted their exclusive lists were smaller, but they were still the same kind of upgrades all the same.
@KayFiOS What excites me about the potential upgrade, is that I'll buy and enjoy that, and then finally feel comfortable with hacking out my launch model Switch.
@Otoemetry I'd say that SP isn't in the same realm of the kinds of upgrades of the other systems, all the SP did at the end of the day that the original couldn't was play games with a built in light. I feel like that would be akin to a new version of the Switch having built in bluetooth audio transmitting and nothing else. Sure its an accessory function that the original couldn't do, but it adds nothing to the actual quality of the output of the games it plays, compared for GBC, DSi, and N3DS which actually did offer improved performance of video games beyond state of life accessory functions.
@ObeseChihuahua2 sure, that one added a backlight (or frontlight in it's original version), but that didn't improve upon the performance of the games it could output. The complete same exact GBA library is available on a GBA SP as a GBA; this does not hold true for the GBC and GB or DSi and DS or N3DS and 3DS.
I so wish this successor would have the glasses free 3D of the 3DS in handheld mode and then games could receive patches to support it like BOTW, Odyssey, Ultimate, etc. But I only ever see myself as someone that wants this feature, no one cares about 3D anymore it would seem. And hey, I get it, but I always personally loved the effect in video games especially when you don't even need any special glasses or anything.
@anoyonmus I don't see why not, the New 3DS came out about 3 and a half years into the life of the 3DS, its now been over four years for the Switch, and the competition is now marching forward, it would only make sense for Nintendo to release some sort of upgraded Switch sooner than later here.
@nhSnork sure, but I think we'd all have to be pretty naive to believe that Nintendo doesn't have an upgrade for their latest portable in the works. The 3DS had the N3DS, the DS had the DSi, the Game Boy had the Game Boy Color, the only dedicated handheld of theirs to not have an upgrade of the sort was the GBA. Plus it just makes sense that Nintendo would continue to improve upon the concept of the Switch, a hybrid portable that has dominated the market with no direct competition in their corner of the market.
I do hope we get something extra after Fighter Pass 2, and honestly I could care less about it being another fighter though, I'm pretty damn satisfied with all the options we do have in that regard. No what I'd love to see is another mode. If Smash Run was the final bonus mode, I think that would be the absolute best thing they could announce, except maybe a full new Subspace Emissary kind of campaign, but I don't see that being in the cards at all.
No Sony? Seems Nintendo and Sony flipped their digital E3 attendances between last year and this year. I'm sure they'll still do their own state of play around that time regardless though.
I do think there is an extra content there, the evidence is strong enough, could be fighter, could be something else entirely, but I don't think it will be a bonus for the second fighter pass. Those that bought fighter pass 2 likely wont get this extra thing as part of that pass. It will either be a separate thing you can purchase (like Piranha Plant) or something that will be free for everyone whether you bought the second fighter pass or not.
@SnesSwitch While I can imagine N64 Online may be in the works. I really don't think GameCube or Wii are on the agenda, at least in that way, maybe they'd end up selling those games as individual VC releases, I could see that happening. But in terms of services to join the likes of NES and SNES Online, I think our only hopes left are N64 and Game Boy (Advance).
Its interesting how the Sega Saturn 3D controller could make for a great replacement for the N64 controller, with the exception of being only one button (Z) short of being able to match every button 1:1. Thing is though, I don't believe there is an N64 game that makes use of L, Z, and R all at the same time, perhaps different control schemes makes for all 3 buttons to be usable in the same game, but as far as I'm aware, you typically used Z and R, and maybe L and R, though I'm unaware of games that controlled where you used L and Z. Point is, the Saturn 3D controller could have made for an excellent substitute for the N64 controller where the third trigger could have been axed entirely.
Hell, I'll say it, I'd love glasses-free 3D on the Switch when in handheld mode. Imagining a full 3D experience of the likes of BOTW or Mario Odyssey (and I don't mean the LABO VR nonsense) sounds amazing to me. Make it a feature of the new Switch that can take advantage of its extra power maybe in such a way in handheld mode. Shame most people don't love this feature as much as me, maybe it actually would have made it to the Switch they had.
"Tencent Has Patented Its Own Handheld Console, And It Looks A Lot Like A Nintendo Switch"
To be fair, there aren't many different layouts that modern portable gaming devices are logically going to take, obviously they'll all be held in a horizontal landscape orientation with controls to the left and right of the screen, and people tend to prefer the layout of Xbox, Gamecube, and Switch controllers of the left side having the left joystick above the d-pad and the right side having the right joystick below the 4 face buttons. At their core, most modern handhelds are just gonna kinda naturally aesthetically resemble a Switch at this point (even if it lacks removable joy-con or the ability to dock and play on TV).
Well at least for the remainder of the year, he'll be working on Smash, and who knows what 2022 will bring. Smash may not get any more fighters after the second fighter pass, but we don't know if that even means Smash will be completely done at that point, or maybe they'll just keep on working on it, getting 4K patches ready for a Switch Pro, maybe even adding in other features and options beyond fighters like, new/returning modes. Something like Smash Run added into Ultimate could be a huge and time consuming undertaking.
So for all we know, he's saying that he isn't thinking or looking too far to the future, because he knows that for the foreseeable future he may still be working on Smash Ultimate.
@Bobb Bomberman 64 The Second Attack is one of my favorite N64 games for sure. First was great too, but Second Attack was my jam. I like Bomberman Hero a lot too, but that one was even more different from a traditional Bomberman experience than either of the 2 64 games. Still, the music of Bomberman Hero is next level, that one by far has the best music of the N64 Bomberman games.
Nice, its a really fun take on the Worms experience, though anyone looking for a proper turn-based and destructable terrain Worms experience should definitely stick with Worms WMD.
@BulkSlash Plus, legit, the Z button on the N64 controller is probably one of the most, if not the most, satisfying buttons on any gaming controller to press.
@kingbk you make it sound like there are many options for modern NFL games, when for years its been Madden or nothing. Though granted, I believe we finally have a new NFL licensed 2K-arcade like game coming this year, but that's the first of such NFL-licensed game outside of EA since the early 2000s
@Nermannn Pokemon Go could be quite the partnership product when all is said and done, between Nintendo, Google, Game Freak, and yeah depending how far along this gets, Microsoft as well. I'd say Sony should get their hands in there, but I'm not sure what more they could contribute to the experience that everyone involved can't already offer.
The possibilities of AR really do excite me, way more than VR. Turning Pokemon Go into a more seamless real-life experience could one day be brilliant, they should pair it with the Pokeball Plus controller so that you can feel like you're throwing an actual pokeball when you catch a pokemon or throw one into battle.
I'm most curious to see what kind of premium Mii Fighter costumes might get added. Shovel Knight could make a good swordfighter and Bomberman proves assist trophies aren't off the table for this treatment. Viewtiful Joe could be a good premium Mii costume too.
Say what you will about Epic, but they definitely are shaping their company to have a solid identity. All these devs and games that they're buying really do fit together in a unifying way despite initially coming from different devs. Like seriously, Rocket League, Fall Guys, Fortnite. I get it, that feels like solid cohesion right there.
@TheFullAndy I have to imagine that Windwaker HD and Twilight Princess HD are inevitably coming to the Switch, what better year than this one? Plus in a Zelda 35th Direct, you just know that would be where they finally showcase BOTW2 beyond the teaser we've got.
Furthermore, I wouldn't be shocked if Grezzo has been up to something. Wouldn't be all that hard to take the engine they made for Link's Awakening and bring Oracle of Ages and Seasons to the Switch.
I'm not saying all of that is in the works. But I think we'd have to be pretty naive to assume the only 35th Zelda news we have for the year is Skyward Sword HD and more details of the BOTW sequel.
@San_D seems like an overreaction to a collection of 3 old Mario games and a 35 player Mario Bros 1 deathmatch game being pulled. Like I'd get the sentiment if we were talking about a similar scenario playing out for the likes of Mario Odyssey or Breath of the Wild. But these are just a couple of phoned-in titles, really nothing to lose one's ***** over their disappearance of.
My gut says when the Mario 35 products are pulled, Zelda 35 products will be announced and start to appear. I think this is why we haven't yet seen celebrations for Zelda's 35th, because they don't want to overlap 35 year anniversary celebrations.
When everything is just a digital presentation, then there really is no need for them to be a part of some larger event. I'm sure Nintendo and Sony will have a Direct and State of Play scheduled respectively around that time in June regardless. Likewise for Microsoft and whatever they call their digital showcases.
The steam puffing out after a successful catch is a clever touch, I'm sure it will be helpful to know from a distance whether you've caught a Pokemon, more so than the little glow of the traditional pokeball that we know.
Shovel Knight should get the premium Mii treatment, we haven't had a premium Mii swordfighter yet, and Bomberman shows that assist trophies are not off the table for such treatment.
I'm excited for a Pokemon MOBA, seems like a no-brainer of an idea. Very disappointed that it's Tencent behind it though, expect microtransactions of the wazoo. That very well may be what makes what could be a great experience, a lousy one. But who knows, maybe they'll surprise me.
I genuinely just assumed this was a done deal. I know he's never voiced in a feature film, but at this point to hear any other voice coming out of modern Mario would be jarring. (Admittedly I do have a soft spot for the Brooklyn Mario of the old cartoons before Martinet came along, but there is no way they'd go with a voice like that for the movie these days.)
@RareFan if they only made 2D Sonic Mania like games from now on, I would have zero problem with them continuing to make such Sonic games indefinitely. Is the 3D titles that most tend to be so polarizing.
I feel like I've seen magnemites twirl those arm magnets around so that they can be upside down like that. I may be just remembering wrong, but I feel like I've seen that somewhere in the anime or maybe a game like Pokemon Snap.
@Lordplops Schwartz is a big nerd that seems to genuinely love Sonic as it is. Even if it is a crummy script, he personally probably would love it regardless.
@nessisonett Schwartz is such a nerd that he probably would be happy to do the voice of Sonic in the games at a lousy rate.
@NinjaWaddleDee Well yeah, but they haven't had a Direct or anything like that in quite some time. Don't be surprised if the year ends up being filled with quality releases, lots of buzz lately that BOTW2 is coming out sooner than we may have been anticipating. Nothing confirmed yet, but I wouldn't be shocked to see that one out before the Fall.
@Hero-of-WiiU I have to think that a Game Boy channel is in the works next. They've done 2 classic consoles, next would make sense to do a classic handheld to further lean into the Switch's hybrid nature. And a Game Boy channel could be all encompassing: GB, GBC, and GBA. I bet we'll see it at some point.
In the past I would have thought an N64 channel would be in the works too, but I'm pretty doubtful now that Mario 64 is already on the system but you have to pay to own it. It'd be a bit of a slap in the face to those that paid $60 for 3D All Stars, where a third of that, $20 would reasonably be applied to Mario 64 alone. And then one day it's suddenly just free to all Online subscribers? (Cuz you'd HAVE to put Mario 64 on such a service) That's the major thing I think that gives me doubts on an N64 channel at this point.
Realistically the only high profile games I think the services are reasonably missing are Super Mario RPG and StarTropics II: Zoda's Revenge.
The services will never see the likes of Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Mana, SaGa, most Namco games, etc. Because it's more profitable for the devs of these beloved series to instead release separate collections as they have.
And while I'd love for the EarthBound games, as I've said a few times here, I think that series is like the others listed above and will be receiving it's own trilogy release on the Switch at some point.
So with that in mind, I dunno what more there is to ask for.... Mario Paint? Mario and Wario? Yoshi Safari? Duck Hunt? You see a pattern with these other games? They relied on peripherals that aren't so great to recreate with what the Switch has to offer. Yeah, Duck Hunt on Wii U worked well enough with a Wiimote, but it's a pale imitation of an actual light gun on a CRT. I'm not holding my breath on lightgun or mouse based title making their way to such services.

Re: Random: The Pokémon Company Forgot What A Magnemite Looked Like, And It's Really Sorry

Re: Pokémon Combats Scalpers By Promising To Print More Trading Cards
Man, Pokemon cards have really blown up lately, what's with that?
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles
Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online SNES And NES Service With Four More Titles
