Re: Sakurai Says Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter Really Will Be The Last One

duffmmann

@geiseldiesel I can't fathom the next Smash being built from the ground up. My best bet would be that they'll just revive Ultimate for the new system, push a 4K update or whatever and then just add to and improve to the game. And I don't mean like Wii U to Ultimate where modes were dropped and replaced and the UI had a drastic (and needed) change. I mean like MK8 to MK8D, where it's the same game but improved and with more content.

Re: Sakurai Says Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter Really Will Be The Last One

Part of me hopes that even though the DLC fighters will be done, that there could still be updates to add new/missing modes and a few of the missing stages.

But a much bigger part of me realizes that the next fighter is almost certainly it. The fighter will release and they'll wrap a bow on Ultimate. Still, I'm hoping that his language means that yes, even though fighters are done, we still have a big paid expansion on the way including familiar modes like Smash Run and Boss Rush, as well as new modes like maybe a Boss Vs. Mode where one player is one of the in game bosses and the other players can work together to try and beat you. I know, almost certainly not happening, but a man can dream.

Re: Zelda: BOTW Sequel Was The "Most Talked About" E3 2021 Game On Twitter

duffmmann

@Entrr_username I don't genuinely believe they were paid obviously, it's just a statement to possibly explain the baffling reveal it is that a racing sim that looks like the ones before it would win such an honor (meaningless as it may be), because I'm genuinely not sure what explains how that game wins most anticipated from that this year's show.

Re: Zelda: BOTW Sequel Was The "Most Talked About" E3 2021 Game On Twitter

duffmmann

@Entrr_username haha that one still baffles me. They must have paid for that meaningless honor or something, because who is most anticipated by Forza? Every entry in that series look the same to me, and you know what you're getting with those games. They're just nice realistic racers, which is fine, but nothing we haven't seen many times before, even from other series entirely.

Re: 'Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania' Box Art And Screenshots Surface Online

duffmmann

It says Anniversary Edition at the top, its the 20th anniversary of the original game launching, these guys are finding proof of Monkey Ball 2 levels being in here. Seems like a safe bet that this is a remaster of 1 and 2, quite possible a remaster of Deluxe (which for those unfamiliar was 1 and 2 combined plus some extra levels). Which sounds awesome, maybe they even added more levels on top of that, they wouldn't have to do that, but that'd be amazing, 1 and 2 were the series at it's best, so more of that is absolutely welcome. You'd think something else is being added beyond just a new coat of paint given the new title.

Also, this probably goes without saying, but Monkey Target better be in there, and man if they added more maps for that, oh snap, I'd lose it.

Re: Rumour: Major Ubisoft Switch Exclusive Could Make An E3 Appearance

duffmmann

Even if it is only a rumor, I think a Mario + Rabbids sequel is a certainty at this point. It really was a surprisingly great game, it sold well and was well received (after initial backlash to it's leak of course). I'd have to imagine at this point, that when it comes to a sequel, it's not a question of if, but rather, when.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Most Iconic E3 Moments

duffmmann

The Muppets were great, shame that E3 didn't have a lot to really pack a punch though. I think the year before they did the collab with the Robot Chicken guys and that one was really good too, and as I recall that had a stronger showing of games as well.

I miss those earlier E3 Directs where they were trying to make each one special in it's own way, Robot Chicken theme one year, Muppets the next. You'd hope they could have kept those kinds of traditions going (I have to wonder if those were something that Iwata really pressed for). Like I could see some sort of Lego collab E3 Direct or maybe since they're working with illumination on the Mario movie, a CGI direct, though that would be a lot of extra work I'm sure, so I get why they didn't keep them up I guess.

Re: One Of The World Premieres For The Summer Game Fest Is A New Weezer Song

duffmmann

Weezer churns out music way too fast these days, they just released a new album, and then they just released a new single outside of that album with AJR. They've had a few instances of releasing 2 full length albums in the same year, they're kinda nuts. And these days I do tend to like a lot of what they have to offer. So I'm all for this, but at the same time, holy crap Rivers, you can take a break, ya know?

Re: Soapbox: Without A Dedicated Handheld Division, Is Nintendo Less Weird?

duffmmann

Nah, I don't think so, I don't really think the games we would have got for a dedicated handheld have disappeared, I think they've just converged with the home console Nintendo games to now be on the same system. Case in point: Pokemon and Miitopia. In fact I speculate that now that most of the first and second party (feasible) Wii U games have made it to the Switch, that many of the best 3DS games will follow suit onto the Switch starting with Miitopia. Wouldn't be surprised to see the likes of Tomadachi Life or Kid Icarus Uprising make the jump to the Switch in time as well.

Re: Talking Point: With Sony And Microsoft In Next-Gen Limbo, E3 Is Nintendo's For The Taking

duffmmann

Not only are Sony and Microsoft in an awkward transitional stage where it honestly doesn't even feel like the new gen has truly started yet, but we know with certainty that Nintendo has a lot of heavy hitting games they're getting ready to release within the next year or so, never mind the unknown surprise or 2 you know they have up their sleeves for this Direct. The only way Nintendo doesn't run away with the show is if they knowingly choose to hold back, which is certainly something they do like to do.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Hardware Refreshes Through The Ages

duffmmann

Honestly, I think if we count the New 3DS systems and DSi systems as upgraded refreshes, then I think that's technically what the Game Boy Color is. I know adding color was a big upgrade, but it's not like the power behind the GBC increased all that much from the Game Boy before it. Plus, the way it received games is similar to the N3DS and DSi systems as well: many games were released after the new model came out that was still playable on the older model but made use of the new model's new feature of color (these GBC games came in black cartridges), while the GBC also saw its share of games that could only be played on the upgraded model just as the N3DS and DSi did, though yes, the GBC received a higher volume of exclusive titles than these later successors, it's the same general idea (these GBC games were the ones that came in the clear cartridges).

Re: Capcom Asks For Patience Regarding Mega Man News As Battle Network Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

duffmmann

The Battle Network series is such a messy assortment of titles, that I question what games would be in such a legacy collection or not. Like the latter games that had multiple entries with only minimal differences between them, do they include both versions or do they find a way to just combine the content of both titles to into a single game that they include instead. Does the obscure Wonder Swan Battle Network game get included? Does Network Transmission get included? What about Battle Chip Challenge? And what about the Star Force games? They're tangentially connected like the ZX games with the Zero games, do they get included too, even the one that was essentially a remake of Battle Network 1? I'm very curious to see how this series will be treated in a legacy collection.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Release Date Worries Me, But Hopefully I'm Wrong

duffmmann

"Pokémon Sword and Shield were heavily scrutinised for what fans believed was a lack of overall polish and quality, with aspects like re-used animations and that blimmin' tree generating much discussion. Personally, I actually thought Sword and Shield ticked all the boxes and if it weren't for all the negativity online beforehand, I'd never have given things like these a thought while enjoying my playthrough."

Totally agree. Genuinely my favorite core entries in the franchise since Gold and Silver, always got a bit of a laugh out of those that thought the game to be unplayable simply because the entire pokedex wasn't in there.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Game Boy Color... Colour?

duffmmann

You really couldn't beat Atomic Purple. Shame we see so little of the translucent look on systems anymore. Was great to see those 2DS models a few years back in those translucent colors. They should really consider making a Switch or Switch Lite with that look, hobbiests have already done so unofficially and they look great.

Re: Super Bomberman R Online Makes The Leap From Stadia To Switch Next Week

duffmmann

This is gonna sound dumb, because it is, but I wish that this spinoff game could be added as a free update directly into Super Bomberman R if we happen to already have that game (which I do). I know, stupid thing to really have any concern about considering its free either way, I just like when there is less clutter in my collection of available Switch games that shows up on my Switch, and having 2 Super Bomberman R games right next to each other, one with the added 'Online' at the end, is just one of those things that rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Players Can Now Vote For The Next In-Game Distribution

duffmmann

I have a suspicion that one final DLC pack launches this year for these games that could be free to everyone at that as kind of a send off for the game as we start to transition into the next phase of Pokemon. Not sure what major addition a new expansion would add, but I do think it could be where we see the remainder of missing pokemon get added into the game as well. Hell, maybe that's all there will be to the update, but regardless, I do think we're in for one more final addition to Sword and Shield in the coming months.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

duffmmann

@Arehexes don't get me wrong, I'm not here proclaiming emulators are (or even should be) illegal. I'm just saying it's hard for me to feel sympathy when the product you're mad has been stolen has been used countless times by countless people to play (for lack of a better word) stolen video games. There are no saints in this scenario, both parties have metaphorical blood on their hands if you ask me.

Re: Nintendo Accused Of Allowing "Pirated Software On The eShop" By GBA Emulator Developer

duffmmann

I mean it's ***** to steal their work there, but you're also complaining that someone stole your software that at its heart is being used to pirate tons of GBA games. I'm sure some people strictly play only backups with such emulators, but we all know the vast amount of people are using emulators for piracy.

So with that in mind, there is only so much sympathy I can feel for you before I recognize that the software you're so protective of isn't exactly innocent in all of this either.

Re: Mediatonic Accidentally Leaked The Fall Guys Source Code

duffmmann

With a live service game, not much beneficial will be doable with the source code unless modders also start a custom server just for whatever they want to accomplish with the source code they do have. And good luck getting enough of a continued playerbase to such a branch of such a game. Like I bet this could be put on a Vita or Wii U now, but not enough people would be regularly connecting there for the game to have much of any life there.
