@TheFox at some point we gotta be able to let go of the Wii U, I'm a man that loves the system, but I'm well past the point of acceptance and moving on. It doesn't upset me that Deluxe already has some content that 8 on Wii U doesn't, like all of the Battle content, Inkling, BOTW Link, 2 held items, the boo item, etc. And I'd be plenty understanding if they went further for more exclusive content too Deluxe including DLC courses, racers, and karts, with a nearly 40 million player install base, they'd be fools not to capitalize on that.
@Inc more MK8D DLC might still make business sense though, as super delayed as it may be.
I kinda wanna see Nintendo randomly start adding DLC to MK8D 4 years after it released for the Switch. Just because it would really further highlight how we really can't assume anything with the company as they'll surprise you again and again.
@Ulysses my gut says that BOTW 2 is gonna launch alongside the Switch Pro and will be one of the first titles that can truly take advantage of the new specs of the system. They'll definitely want a big 4K capable (assuming the device can do that) game to launch alongside that unit to help push more of that device.
@Dethmunk maybe the double dash formula could return or they could steal from Sega and do the Sonic Racing Transformed thing where for parts of the race, your Kart turns into a plane or boat.
Or maybe a new entry would further shift focus from the Mario franchise and it will become more of a Super Smash Kart. Even if the formula is otherwise the same as MK8, the shift to Nintendo as a whole would probably feel like enough to justify a separate title.
But I'm with you, if new Mario Kart content just looks like more Mario Kart 8, then there is no logical reason for more Mario Kart content on Switch to be a separate game and not just DLC. But if they find a way to further change how Mario Kart plays, then that totally can be a new game.
Depends entirely on what new Mario Kart content would be. If it all just resembles Mario Kart 8 but with new courses, racers, and karts, then that content should be MK8D DLC, if they genuinely change up the gameplay somehow (maybe make the Double Dash formula the playstyle again), then that should be a brand new Mario Kart game.
@ChaoticIgnorance wait people think this is it for Nintendo for the year? Was it not obvious that the last Direct was all about the first half of 2021 (with the typical one big future game reveal of Splatoon 3)? And clearly E3 will be addressing the second half of the year.
@rockodoodle sorry to hear that, Mario Golf is my jam though, so I'm poised to be very pleased until at least mid autumn, and who knows what Nintendo will have announced for its second half of the year at E3 by then.
I think there will be more live action Pokémon movies in the style of Detective Pikachu, but I'm sure that none of such movies will be proper sequels to Detective Pikachu.
@Heavyarms55 you say you don't care about what they think, but that post sure reads like you care lol
Pro Tip: your public library remains a great source for renting current games for free, typically for 2 full weeks at that.
And if your library doesn't carry any games, use their computer network and search for games, chances are other libraries in the district will carry games and allow you to reserve them to be delivered to your library. Can not tell you how many great Switch games I've experienced this way.
I wish these new Mii design features were available on a system level and not just to Miitopia, custom Mii fighters in Smash could then really go to the next level.
That is what you call an empathetic kid, choosing a trip for his entire family to New York over just a Switch for himself. I love the Switch as much as the next guy, but he's got the right idea already in life.
What I'd really love to see is a modern console or handheld that only plays cartridges like so, but the games released to it would be all the modern 2D games that are throwbacks to the 8 and 16bit eras. Games like Shovel Knight, Sonic Mania, Fez, Street Fighter 4, Golf Story, etc. etc.
Yes, I realize that a Switch is that and more, but I'm talking about a system only intended for these less demanding indie games, something that would be more affordable since it wouldn't require the highest specs.
Too many great looking Harvest Moon type of games coming out these days. Were it not such a crowded time for such games, I might be compelled to get this one. But instead, I'm waiting for Rune Factory 5, I really don't think anything else in the genre coming out on the next year or so is gonna measure up to it.
@UltimateOtaku91 streaming is definitely something that only stands to get better with time. Take a look at 5G internet speeds right now, ranging from 40 to 1100 Mbps, but experts believe that in time they'll be able to get speeds up to 10,000 Mbps. Eventually, probably within a decade or so, streaming games will seem no different from natively playing them, as long as you've moved up in the internet speeds world as it continues to advance.
@westman98 yes I understand what he's talking about, I'm just saying gamepass or not, I don't see why (more) Xbox games coming to the Switch via xcloud streaming would be out of the question.
@westman98 you act like selling individual xcloud games isn't feasible on another device. Shouldn't be much harder to do than selling individual Ubitus cloud games on the system.
No there is no word on this happening, there is no definitive word on any of this happening. It's all just speculation, and I'm speculating of the most logical realistic way we could see more Xbox games on Switch. People all cling to this idea that it has to be streaming game pass, but why couldn't it be individual larger 1st party games run by xcloud?
@westman98 but if Microsoft sold Xcloud versions of only their first party xbox games on the Switch, then I don't see how that would be a conflict of interests with what Nintendo have been doing with third party cloud games with Ubitus.
@TheFullAndy ugh, I mention the consumer's satisfaction because they may scale price appropriately if the game selection were significantly smaller than on Game Pass on other devices. Maybe they wouldn't even call it Game Pass at that point in the Switch and instead something like Xbox on the Go or whatever lol.
Or hell, maybe it'd just be an xCloud app where you can browse 1st party Xbox games and buy them in cloud versions individually for the Switch. It's not like the Switch doesn't already sell cloud only games individually. Point is there are many ways this could happen without being the logistical nightmare some of you are so sure it would have to be.
@TheFullAndy but I'm not even saying it will happen, I'm just saying I can absolutely see how it could still happen. At this point, all that needs to be said is reiterating my last point in that last post:
Again, when there is money to be made, logistics can be worked out in a way that is satisfying to all parties, including the consumer.
@TheFullAndy lol I love how you seem so sure you understand how this all works. We'll see is my continued stance here, you keep trying to excuse away how it can't work out without entertaining that things could be altered specifically for the platform, including games selection, price, and more.
Again, when there is money to be made, logistics can be worked out in a way that is satisfying to all parties, including the consumer.
@TheFullAndy I already addressed this earlier in these comments:
The simple answer is to work out a deal with Microsoft where the version of GamePass on Switch can't contain any games already available on the Switch.
As to why anyone would continue to buy Nintendo games on a Nintendo system? Really? Do I really need to address that?
We'll see is my opinion. Seems totally feasible and if handled right could lead to more profits for both companies.
@WillQuan wow you've had literally like the opposite experience of myself (and many others from what I've seen online). I'm sure in some situations and locations such as what you've found for yourself, Stadia may work better, but in general Xcloud kicks Stadia's ass.
@TheFullAndy I really don't think so. When there is an opportunity to make money, such logistics can definitely be worked out. To ignore the opportunity because it's "too complicated" would just be incredibly foolish from a business standpoint.
@TheFullAndy not if a deal were worked out where Nintendo would see a portion of the monthly subscription fees from Microsoft for putting the service on their system and reaching an even larger audience, done right, there could be great synergy here for both companies to make even more money.
@Danrenfroe2016 Xcloud is genuinely pretty solid. Shame Stadia has given modern cloud gaming such a bad rap, because Microoft is definitely on the right track with what they're doing in the medium.
@kostasfil simple answer is to work out a deal with Microsoft where the version of GamePass on Switch can't contain any games already available on the Switch. Of course, all those games will be third party as it is, so how much Nintendo truly would care about the crossover of same titles between the 2 would come down to how much they make from third party titles sold on their system, which I'm sure is something, but also far from where the bulk of their profits come from.
Nintendo told an industry analyst they wouldn't allow such a thing? Well then close up shop, that's all we need to know, no way this will ever happen, as clearly Nintendo would never try to hide such a big reveal move from the analysts, this wouldn't be the kind of news that they'd want to reveal on their own terms or anything like that. Heavy /s if not obvious there.
By no means am I saying it is happening, but if it were or it weren't happening regardless, I'd expect Nintendo would still tell such curious analysts it will never happen.
I get what they're saying, but why not at least give us an HD remaster of GX? Merge in the AX content too, and a course creator similar to what X had to offer, and that'd be a solid release that easily would sell well. That'd really be all you need, allow custom tracks to be shared, and if nintendo were real cool, entertain the idea of adding more official courses to the game down the line via DLC.
@Ambassador_Kong whoosh. Hardware redesigns are not what I'm taking about here. The GBA SP's new features did not enable it to play any games that a regular GBA couldn't play. Hence why I also didn't mention: the Game Boy Pocket, the Game Boy Light, the DS Lite, the DSi XL, the 3DS XL, etc etc.
@Abweegee Nintendo totally could, they've got more than enough money.
Having said that, I really don't think they're part of the talks here. I just don't think they feel a need for them. Square is known for their JRPGs and the like, and when Nintendo already has strong big name IPs like Pokemon, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Fire Emblem, I don't think they would have a great interest in making a dev like Square exclusive to them.
I wouldn't doubt that Microsoft is interested, given their recent acquisitions. I could see Sony being interested too given that they've been paying for exclusive and early content with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake releases. For some reason I can really picture Sega and Square merging, but I don't think Sega has the kind of money right now to be making that kind of purchase.
@Magician I dunno, that concept really isn't too different to how television has operated for decades: tune in at this time and enjoy the content. I think it's kinda charming, it's a throwback to an era of entertainment we've been moving away from, which just goes hand in hand with the FMV nature of the game.
I've been saying for awhile that it just makes sense that some sort of partnership between Microsoft and Nintendo could be mutually beneficial.
Put streaming game pass on Switch via Xcloud, allow remote play of your Xbox with your Switch, and finally allow for controllers from both systems to be interchangeable, so if you connect your Switch through your Xbox via the HDMI-in port of the Xbox that you can go from playing games of either system seamlessly without even having to set down a controller.
Done right, it could feel like both systems are 2 halves of a whole, where the appeal comes from owning both devices, tempting Xbox owners to get a Switch and Switch owners to get an Xbox.
@BetterThanVegas Totally, adding depth to me is so much more exciting than adding the likes of 4K. Though it feels like to me if made right the new Switch could be the best of both worlds if utilizing its power properly, 4K when docked, up to 720p with 3D when played in handheld. Sounds like such a logical direction to take the system in too, the Switch is the only system around at this time that feasibly could offer glasses-free 3D in this day and age at that, why not offer that possibility? (that's not to be answered, I know why, the feature was never embraced by the masses in video games, despite how perfect it is for the medium)
@ImBackBB lol, I get it. I remember the Christmas I got my Game Boy Color and a few games, some were black with the notch, and some were transparent without the notch, and I learned fairly early on that some GBC games could still be played on a regular Game Boy and some could not. Had I not got games of both kind I totally could have been in that same camp after all these years.
@ImBackBB *****, I don't mean to make you feel like ass, I just meant, I think these systems are more upgrades than they are full on successors. I totally see where you were coming from, and a younger me absolutely shared that mentality, but as I've looked back on the GBC, I've come to recognize it wasn't the full on successor I used to regard it as.
