While I don't agree that such a challenge is on the same level as a hack or a mod, I can at least understand why the idea would be shut down. Not only is the Nuzlocke challenge not in line with how The Pokemon Company intends for the games to be experienced, but also, if they validated the idea of the challenge and especially used the Nuzlocke name, it could quickly become a legal headache, one I'm certain the Pokemon Company could come out on top of, but one they'd also like to avoid entirely I'm sure.
Also, as an aside, while I do like what the Nuzlocke challenge is for Pokemon games, I really hate that name. Wish the challenge had a more descriptive name for the series, even if the name is less inspired like pro or expert run.
@steventonysmith I really can't fathom how it wouldn't be good. If Nintendo took a Sonic core entry seriously, I don't see how it could be anything but a delight. It's not like Nintendo to fumble big releases. Now sure, if they put as much effort into it as Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, then sure, it would be a awful, but that's not the Nintendo I recommend comes up to the plate here.
@steventonysmith Ya know, Sega has developed a couple of Nintendo games over the years like F Zero GX, it would be very interesting to see Sega have Nintendo develop a Sonic game for them once. Wonder if Nintendo would ever entertain such a thing.
@RupeeClock I was thinking it will be more like the Master Sword in BOTW (or really not unlike how obtaining Super Sonic worked in classic game as well), attainable at any time in the game, if you go through the difficult task of obtaining all 7 chaos emeralds. And you can use it when you activate it, but it will drain (perhaps not linked to your rings necessarily this time as it has in the past though, but some sort of gauge causes it to eventually dry up, and then you have to recharge that before you can use the power again).
OK, I don't get this one. Typically a game doesn't join the service on the West because it was never localized to begin with. But Harvest Moon 64 was officially localized, sure there are some grammar issues here and there, but overall I see no reason why this can't also release in the West like the rest of the games.
Man I am noticing a theme of Monolith coming in to help with big core Nintendo games: the Splatoon series, BOTW, even Mario Kart 8 if I recall correctly. Seems like they are one acquisition that Nintendo must be very happy with.
This is genuinely pretty exciting. I don't understand why Rayman (or any Ubisoft rep for that matter) was never a fighter in Smash Bros. Ubisoft has always been very supportive of Nintendo, even during the painful Wii U years, and of course now there are 2 Mario + Rabbids games. And Rayman was even a trophy in Smash Wii U. So why no Ubisoft rep in Smash? Meanwhile Square has 4 reps, I don't get it.
Just Yooka-Laylee on the cover does feel a bit odd. I'd have loved to see some sort of collage of all the biggest platformers over the years, and yeah you could fit Yooka-Laylee on that kind of cover and it wouldn't feel so odd.
If 5 is a mistake, my money says that it and 12 are actually swapped values. I can see Young Link supposed to be 12 years old and Deku Link supposed to be 5 years old.
No major love loss there, the best entry was the first entry and even that wasn't anything amazing. It had more chances to prove itself to be a series worth keeping around, but it ultimately just didn't have enough to keep people interested.
I do think that Chibi Robo should be an Assist Trophy in Smash though. The Mii costume suffices, but he'd be even more greatly suited as an Assist Trophy.
@VinylCreep if you're gonna hold yourself to that kind of standard, good luck getting around and doing anything. I certainly hope you aren't putting gas in your car, because that industry is paved with murder, lies, and corruption.
I actually use Youtube on my Wii U sometimes, it's pretty nice to go from watching a video on the TV to grabbing the GamePad and seamlessly continuing to watch the video when I go to the bathroom (layout of my house is close enough to allow for this, which can be especially useful when I have friends or the like over and we're watching youtube videos and one has to leave the room for a minute and doesn't want to miss a second of the videos nor pause it for the others.
5 years as a figure alone isn't the issue for me, I would argue that seems entirely reasonable. It's the fact that 2 and 3 are on the same system that doesn't sit so hot with me. This is the kind of game where the core experience remains the same from title to title and while they're is single player content, it is not the focus of the game in question, so it feels along the lines of Smash Bros or Mario Kart where it feels hard to justify multiple core releases on the same system, especially in this age where updates, patches, expansions, and DLC can so easily be added to titles. This is how I feel about most sports titles as well, but of course those are games that will release yearly regardless, when really a simple roster and schedule alt season expansion could so easily be added to a single core game instead.
Having said that, it's not super egregious here, I'm still looking forward to Splatoon 3, just not nearly as much so as I was for Splatoon 2 on Nintendo's new hardware at the time.
What I would love to do, would be to take that setup, but instead of connecting it with a Switch, connect it with a hacked Wii U as it can play the vast majority of all Mario Kart games without issue: Super, 64, Double Dash, Super Circuit, Wii, DS, 8, GP, and GP 2.
What the Pokemon Company should do is create a series of Planet Earth-like documentaries shot in the same cgi live-action style of Detective Pikachu. That would be such a hit and more people overall would be more interested in rewatching that content than a movie like Detective Pikachu.
I think we're gonna see a first and second party only Direct soon, and as part of it, wave 2 of the Booster Pass will drop on the same day. I think now that Smash is done, Mario Kart 8 DLC is kinda their ongoing DLC that they can keep fans eager for the next Direct with (not that they need any DLC, but since it's all retro courses, it can lead to some speculation of it's own that would drum up some extra general interest in their presentations).
I mean Microsoft and now Sony do it. Seems inevitable that this is just one of those stepping stones for the gaming industry moving forward that they'll all eventually take, just like cross-platform play before it.
Read too quickly and thought the mystery gift code was for Legends, so I put in the Gastraon mystery gift code in Legends and got this interesting error: "The gift provided by this code or password can't be received in this game." I just figured it would simply say it's not a valid code.
Very odd that the text “The microphone cannot be used when holding the controller this way” was added.
Could simply just be someone copying and pasting work between NSO services and nothing more. But it could be an indication that one of the two games that used a Mic on the N64 could be coming to the Switch (those being Hey You Pikachu and some Train game exclusive to Japan, my money says if either are coming, it would obviously be Hey You Pikachu). It would be an odd feature to include because while the Switch actually can use a mic connected through the audio jack, though, I don't believe a single first party game supports the feature.
@SteamEngenius Well once you recognize that all video games at their most basic level are the same idea: push input at correct time to either do or don't do a thing; you recognize that anything that provides a satisfying feedback loop in doing that is appealing and enjoyable, regardless of if those digital 1s and 0s are saying you're having sex or doing hard labor in a chain gang. If the end result is enjoyable to the player, then the menial task you've designated to getting the feedback loop, doesn't carry as much weight as the actual feeling you're achieving.
That's my long winded way of saying, I have no interest in the world in upkeeping a farm in the real world, but I sure as hell love these kinds of video games, as the feedback loop is that enjoyable.
@abdias Inexpensive? Sure. Cheap? Hell no! This is a feature rich game with so much heart and soul poured into it. I would describe this game with a lot of words, but cheap would never be one of them. And yes, I know you only mean inexpensive, but I've never been a fan of using that word cheap when only inexpensive is the word being meant as cheap holds a lot more weight.
Hadn't they confirmed this multiple times in recent years? I know like 6 or 7 years ago, this rumor was a little bit more mysterious, but I'm pretty sure around 2015 or so it was officially confirmed and the rumor put to rest.
It's very possible that Nintendo's actual would-be-E3 Direct will still happen on the 29th, I don't know why anyone would think the two can't be on the table here.
@Serpenterror Of that list, I would only put Crash, Rayman, Bomberman, Lara Croft, Doomslayer, and Ryu Hayabusa as characters that should be fighters over the likes of Cuphead. Characters like Qbert would really only best be suited as an assist trophy at most, yeah he's a prolific character for the dawn of video games, but he's so lacking for movesets, hell Frogger would make a better fighter than Qbert, and he too would need some serious liberties taken to get him to a point where he makes sense as a fighter, and a character like Spyro has always just felt like a lesser Crash, I know his games play quite different, but the 2 series have always gone hand-in-hand for various reasons, but when you break down which one is more iconic and would make for a better fighter, it's Crash, and I'd really only prefer to get the better of the 2 if either were ever on the table.
I found out that there were Hitler related filters when I tried to transfer Miis from my Wii U to the Switch, everyone worked except for the Mii I had made to be a villain, he was an angry man that may have bared a passing resemblance to Hitler, but I felt his existence was OK in that he was the Mii that was meant to be hated and picked on, a real punching bag in Smash. Anyway, I named this Mii: Adolf, and that wasn't a problem on the Wii U, however when it ried to transfer the Mii to the Switch, I was informed that it's name was unacceptable. And to that, I have to ask, really? I get it if the name was straight up Hitler, but Adolf is still a real name that as of 2018, 46,000+ people were known to still have the name. It leaves me with so many questions, like is that part of the filter disabled just for Germany where most people with the name Adolf live today?
@GrailUK well Switch got Banjo Kazooie in the N64 service, seems like any Rare game could be on the table. In fact, maybe a deal was made so that it can appear in the N64 service if Nintendo allows Rare to also releases it in some form on Microsoft's platforms.
Here's the best advice you'll get on the subject: HACK YOUR WII U AND/OR 3DS. It couldn't be easier, and their libraries have been backed up online. Yeah, I'm talking about stuff that can easily lead to piracy, but in responsible hands it can simply be just for ensuring you can reinstall any backups of games you ever once installed on these great devices long after the official servers shut down.
Nintendo really should consider hosting their own yearly tournament. Yeah I know they do one-offs from time to time, but they should do a big nation-wide tournament yearly for their most competitive games.
Well we could still use StarTropics 2 for the NES. And Mario RPG for the SNES. But in terms of an the major 1st and 2nd party games on the systems, I'm not thinking of much more.
Man the world of "high end" carry cases, purses, etc. has gotta be just huge margins of profit. I bet a single one of these things built in high production probably doesn't even cost $5 to make.
@ModdedInkling migrating all the titles to a different server might take that long, especially if every title then has to somehow be flagged again properly to ensure people that downloaded it on the original server are still entitled to download it again at no extra cost on the new server.
I don't know if that is the case in terms of what is happening, but something like that seems like it could be a months long process, if it requires manually adjusting every downloaded title in some way.
Ya know, its feasible (not holding my breath on this) that they are genuinely working on the shop and that they will be back up and functioning at some point. I mean I doubt it, but I also kinda bet that all Nintendo's digital content to purchase and download are split up on different servers depending on the system. If Nintendo could get all that Wii and DSi stuff onto the same server as that which hosts all their Switch stuff, that could be quite the undertaking, especially in regards to ensuring software you paid for and downloaded before could be downloaded again at no extra charge.
Is that what they're doing? Probably not, but until they flat out state that the stores are permanently disconnected, it seems at least possible that such a move is at play here.
"Internal staff at the company are not happy about the tool, stating that such an approach belittles diversity and diminishes it to a mere 'dystopian' checklist."
Welcome to modern day media. Diversity is absolutely a checklist in most big budget movies and TV shows, probably in video games too, and not just at Activision. Sure there are examples of organic diversity in the media, but for every one of those, there are 20 works that have to make sure they meet their quota.
I understand that people feel under represented, but do such people feel any better when the representation they get is so blatantly disingenuous? I can't imagine this current representation of diversity that we see throughout modern media is any more satisfying than the lack of representation they had felt before this modern shift.
How did the Anniversary version work? If you owned the original, could you pay a DLC fee and get all the Anniversary content, or could you only buy it as a full separate release?
Edit: yup, after looking it up, you could pay a smaller fee to just upgrade the Special Edition of Skyrim (Which the Switch version is based off of). Honestly, I'm not opposed to that being offered on the Switch. If it's only sold as a separate release on the system, then that's super lame and I'm not onboard with that. If they follow the model I'm seeing on other platforms, where someone like me could just pay a smaller fee and get the additional Anniversary content in the game they already own, then that seems totally reasonable to me. Though I'm aware it would feed all the more into the "Skryim keeps getting ported to everythign1!!!!!!!111!!!!" meme, but all the same, I support it in that model.
So it sounds like the Mania team just did with Sonic 3 & Knuckles what Whithead had already done with 1, 2, and CD's mobile versions from a few years back, handed that work over to the SEGA team, and then SEGA went and put them all together in a nice little package, added unifying style and flair, as well as the extra modes and features exclusive to this new version. I think I get it lol.
Will we be able to use our account across multiple systems like Fortnite? I have it on PS4, and if it's free to play, then I might as well get it on Switch now too, but it'd be really great if I could use all my skins and stuff I've already unlocked, on the Switch.
@sanderson72 maybe I'm alone here, but I'm not crazy about how broad the WB fighter is. I'd prefer a new Cartoon Network with Adult Swim brawler over the more vague WB brawler. I know years ago there was a Cartoon Network brawler with Punch Time Explosion, but they could certainly revisit the idea and improve upon it.
@Onett I think it just comes down to the fact that it's literally intended to be the ending of the franchise, and that they set it up by retroactively calling the first entry Earthbound Beginnings. It may be a simple means of reaching a title, but it's absolutely a title with merit for the franchise, and undeniably gives each entry a satisfying name that works together as a trilogy.

Re: Lots Of Kirby Plushies Are Up For Pre-Order, And They're Absolutely Adorable
I haven't bought a plush in years. But I'm genuinely thinking I might want a Sword Kirby
Re: Skyrim Anniversary Edition Has Been Rated For Switch In Taiwan, Sparking Rumours Of A Port

Indie claymation is always so fascinating to me. I love ***** like this.
Re: Sonic Mania Dev Clarifies Involvement With Sonic Origins, Says It's "Purely A Sega-Developed Product"
Re: Fall Guys Is Going Free-To-Play, Comes To Switch This Summer With Cross-Play And A Huge Update
Will we be able to use our account across multiple systems like Fortnite? I have it on PS4, and if it's free to play, then I might as well get it on Switch now too, but it'd be really great if I could use all my skins and stuff I've already unlocked, on the Switch.
Re: Random: Stop Calling Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl A 'Smash-Killer', Pleads Lead Artist
Re: Random: Stop Calling Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl A 'Smash-Killer', Pleads Lead Artist
Stop comparing our game to the gold standard and creator of the genre! That's not fair!
Re: Poll: If Nintendo Released Mother 3 In The West, What Would It Be Called?
@Onett I think it just comes down to the fact that it's literally intended to be the ending of the franchise, and that they set it up by retroactively calling the first entry Earthbound Beginnings. It may be a simple means of reaching a title, but it's absolutely a title with merit for the franchise, and undeniably gives each entry a satisfying name that works together as a trilogy.
