Re: Nintendo Expands Its Switch Online Game Boy Advance Service March 9th

duffmmann

@Everett_psycho Frankly, since Samus Returns is clearly not on the agenda (at least anytime soon, maybe we'd get a 3DS app some point in the likely Switch 2's life?), what I would love to see is Nintendo officially colorize classic Game Boy games as DX versions within the Game Boy app. Samus Returns would be a fantastic choice for such a treatment, likewise for Donkey Kong '94. The great thing is that fans have been doing this on their own in recent years, games like Super Mario Land 1 and 2 have seen amazing color mods, but if Nintendo went that extra mile with the Switch app, that would be so friggin awesome.

@Classic603 I think Dread might have taken Fusion's spot for me, if we can even really count that as 2D. I've always preferred to make a distinction between 2D and 2.5D, because the classic Mario NES and SNES games are a whole different (wonderful) beast than the New Super Mario Bros games, likewise how it makes it easier to not count Sonic 4 as a part of the classic Sonic franchise (which I would say Mania is absolutely a part of) despite it's numbering suggesting otherwise.

Re: Feature: Hyrule Fields, Ranked - The Best Grassy Plains In The Zelda Franchise

duffmmann

I love Ocarina of Time as much as the next person... but errr.... I might put that particular Hyrule Fields at the very bottom. It's a vast empty space with nothing of particular interest to keep your visual focus. Enemies pop up occasionally, sure, but it's boring to both look at and traverse. I'm genuinely surprised you put it at number 1. And don't get me wrong, this isn't me ***** on N64 graphics, because I LOVE Termina Field, that ***** works. OoT Hyrule Fields is weak at best.

Re: Bill & Ted’s Excellent Retro Collection Just Shadow Dropped On The Switch eShop

duffmmann

These games aren't good enough to warrant these modern classic collections we've been seeing.

Typically there really has been like a gold standard for what gets these kinds of releases, that being that the games are beloved. Think about it, all the Mega Man Collections lately, Contra, Castlevania, Final Fantasy, Collection of Mana, Sonic, TMNT, even those Capcom Disney games. There really aren't many duds that get this kind of treatment, and with good reason, they'd be better off just dumping these on the Switch Online services and taking whatever cut they get from that. But these games might be so bad that Nintendo would reject them for their service anyway.

Re: Where To Buy Metroid Prime Remastered On Switch

duffmmann

I'll be interested if and when they shadow drop Metroid Prime 2 Remastered, and then Metroid Prime 3 Remastered. Maybe they'll establish a pattern of like every 6 months they release the next game, and then bam, 6 months after Metroid Prime 3 they finally release Metroid Prime 4.

Re: Feature: 9 Unanswered Questions We Have About Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

duffmmann

I have another question that I don't see anyone really entertaining, but it seems important to me: Will there be an underground to this game?

Not only do we know that the game is opening up by taking to the sky. But, we can see that the middle island has taken flight, leaving a bigass hole beneath it. Seems very feasible to me that an entire underground could have opened up as well. In fact, in my head-canon that's where the initial teaser we saw takes place (the one where Link and Zelda are exploring some sort of cavern, and come across Ganondorf). Seems like this could open up elaborate underground tunnels and could be where possible proper dungeons are held as well. I dunno, but I do believe such a huge portion of the game may be still held back from our full knowledge at this time. And I really wanna know if that's the case or not.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda-Themed Nintendo Console Has The Best Design?

duffmmann

Those late-in-life special edition New 2DS XL models were indeed something special. Not just a printed design on the outer shell, but physically changing how the shells look with parts that protrude and indent to match the design. Not only would I argue that it's the best Zelda edition of a console, but so too would I say that the special Pokeball editions of the New 2DS XL is the best Pokemon themed edition of a console (though the Zacian and Zamazenta Switch Lite has gotta be up there too).

Re: Poll: What's The Best Simpsons Game?

duffmmann

Seems like a pointless poll if the goal is to find out what ranks as number 1. I'll save you the effort and let you know with certainty: it's Hit and Run. My guess would be that number 2 is The Simpsons Game, and number 3 is Road Rage, though admittedly, The Arcade Game could be a bit of a monkey wrench, I know it won't take number 1 from Hit and Run, but I do believe it potentially could land in the third or even second position with the right kinds of fans voting.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Responds To Online Backlash In Ongoing Dispute

duffmmann

"Some people are calling me a liar and a golddigger." Yes because you clearly are. I've heard and seen enough to know that your call for a boycott is based on a wage that a vast majority ofAmericans would kill to be paid at, even if your quoted offer were true and not considerably less than what you were actually offered. Sorry your little call for 'justice' is resulting in people recognizing your overly entitled cries for more money for what they are.

Re: A New Bayonetta 3 Report Features A Differing Account Of PlatinumGames VA Pay Offer

duffmmann

@Old_Man_Nintendo Well that's not exactly how it works (or at least how it's legally supposed to). Yes waiters can only be paid as low as like $2 an hour from the restaurant and the tips are expected to bring them up to minimum wage and more. But when they report their numbers at the end of their shift including all their tips, if they still made under minimum wage with their tips, then by law the restaurant has to make up the difference by paying the waiter more until their rate for that shift was minimum wage. It's still disgusting, but no waiter should ever end a shift in America without having made at least minimum wage regardless.

Re: A New Bayonetta 3 Report Features A Differing Account Of PlatinumGames VA Pay Offer

duffmmann

Thing is, her claim of $4000 was still a lot of money for the amount of work she had to do. Looks like they were looking at 20 hours of work for this game, so she was looking at about $200 an hour for work if her claim of only $4000 was true. And I get it, that that isn't to scale in the voice acting industry, but it's still so much more money per hour than at least 90% of Americans will make per hour in their entire life. And on top of that she has the gall to demand that fans of the game boycott the game because $200 an hour for 20 hours of work isn't good enough for her. Well boo hoo, I'm not going to boycott the thousands of hours of work of countless devs that actually worked on the game and had no say on what your pay was ever going to be. At $200 an hour this was already incredibly selfish and disgusting. Learning that she was lying and it was actually nearly $1000 an hour that wasn't good enough for her only magnifies how gross I think everything about her call for a boycott ever was.

Don't get me wrong, by all means turn down the offer if you don't think it was good enough for you, and even air your grievances for the rates voice actors are paid, that's all completely reasonable for you to do for yourself. But the moment you asked the fans to boycott the game because you decided you were more important than all the people that actually worked on the game is the moment where you forever lost me.

In fact, just to support those that actually did work on the game (and again almost every single one of them having no say on your pay), I'm going to buy this game on day one. And I had initially only planned on waiting for a sale or renting it from the public library.

Re: Talking Point: Given The Voice Artist Controversy, Will You Be Boycotting Bayonetta 3?

duffmmann

Lol no, why should I boycott a game that she didn't even work on? Boycotting the game would only hurt the countless devs that actually did work on this game, those that had nothing to do with her pay offer, and are depending on this game doing well for their own livelihood. Her call to boycott is incredibly selfish and downright disgusting. By all means don't take the job and air your grievances, but don't put the jobs of so many others on the line just because you weren't happy with the offer of the equivalent of $250 an hour for 16 hours of work (if the length of time recording Bayonetta 3 was on par with the 4 days at 4 hours a day she put in for recording the last game).

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

@backlogrob I'd have to jump through some major hoops to believe that the unfair pay of one worker dictates that everyone else's jobs should be on the line because of it, especially when none of them have anything to do with her pay.

By all means she should boycott over the pay, but her call for the fans to boycott is nothing but selfish and disgusting, she's disregarding the hard work of so many people and deciding that their jobs don't matter while only hers does, and the other people actually put the work hours in too, she didn't even work on this game at all. Truly gross in my opinion.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

@backlogrob lol what kind of logic is this? I'd rather support the work of a hundred plus devs that poured countless hours into this game while having nothing to do with what she was getting offered in pay. Her cry to boycott is selfish and is only thinking about herself while ignoring that plenty of other working people's career futures depend on whether their game will be a success or not.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

You know who didn't call for fans to boycott the entire series when he didn't get offered what he thought was reasonable pay for his voice acting work? John Dimaggio, the voice of Bender in Futurama. In fact, he was still supporting his co-stars while he went on his personal journey of refusing the job and holding out in hopes of getting higher pay. There is a right way to address these kinds of issues and a wrong way. Hellena here has chosen the wrong way. By all means, make it known you were unhappy with the pay offer, I get that, but don't turn the fanbase against your own former co-workers and the work of so many that had nothing to do with what you were being offered in pay.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

@Tober Jesus, $4,000 for 4 half days of work, or 2 full 8 hour days of work? And I'm not only supposed to feel bad for her, but boycott the game because of it? Meanwhile I'm working a job that takes me 20 working days to get that same amount of money, and it's doing a job that I feel very indifferent towards, yet I still go every day and don't boycott it, why the hell should I side with her and not experience a great looking game because she wasn't accepting of receiving the equivalent of my month's pay for only 2 day's worth of work?

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

@Chlocean love the artist answer, but can't argue with the company's logic either. We should all be worth the amount of time it took to get us where we are, yet we live in a world of base hourly pay that cares not for what it took to get you where you are. Obviously not true of all businesses, but sadly true of most and is thus a reflection of the average working man's experience. Whether she realizes it or not, she's trying to appeal to a minority, while the majority would love to be getting the kind of offers that she's boycotting the title over.

Re: Bayonetta's OG Voice Actor Asks Fans To "Boycott" Third Game After PlatinumGames Wage Fallout

duffmmann

There are 2 sides to every story. I won't accept her claims at face value, though I will entertain them. She could be telling the truth, she could be lying. But genuine question, how many hours of work would recording her lines be? Because if we're talking one or two 40 hour weeks, it's hard for me to feel sympathetic. Like I get it, it's not scale with the rest of the industry if true, but so many in this world would kill for that kind of pay-rate. It's all about perspective. Hell if my voice could live on in a beloved video game for a couple weeks worth of work and I get 4 grand on top of that, well you wouldn't hear me complaining, that's for sure. But I know I could have these logistics very wrong.

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 15.0.0 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

duffmmann

Just add downloadable themes already. I don't believe that would even require a firmware update considering from day one there has been a theme menu with 2 themes to choose from. New themes is the last major thing I want for the Switch interface, and I know we're 5 years in, but heck they took years to add Bluetooth audio and the ability to make groups (essentially folders), both things I had also wanted for a long time. So who knows, maybe themes will arrive late in the OG Switch's life as well.

Re: Game Boy Advance Metroidvania 'Goodboy Galaxy' Is Delayed Into 2023

@SteamEngenius There are plenty of Kickstarter campaigns to give ***** to. But this one seems pretty legit in every way. If they need more time, I'm not gonna personally ***** on a little indie studio on needing it. I mean were you even waiting on this game at all, or are you just always eager to talk badly about Kickstarter campaigns?
