Sonic Frontiers is due to release on Switch on November 8th. While that is just a few short months from now, we are still being provided with more and more footage at an alarmingly fast rate (could we really resist a speed reference?) Today's 'TGS Trailer' continues this trend with a fresh look at the game's Titan Battles, as well as a sneak preview of the yellow hedgehog, Super Sonic, in action.
We know the drill of these trailers by now. Running up walls? Check. Bounce combat? Check. Reluctance to show gameplay footage? Check. The new trailer (found above) once again consists mainly of cinematic visuals, with Sonic doing his thing in the game's 'open world' landscape, taking on huge titans by running through a series of loops to gain speed boosts - who would have thought it?
There is also a dynamite blast from the past in the trailer's soundtrack. Accompanied by the track 'Vandalize' by ONE OK ROCK — which is the game's ending theme — the track feels like it's been ripped straight from the 2000s, with the rock strings and tortured-soul vocals hitting that child-acts-like-a-teenager emotion that the franchise has always aced.

Even we must admit that we were slightly sideswiped by the trailer's finale, however, which sees the reveal of Super Sonic. Glistening with yellow power energy, the trailer confirms that you will be able to enter the boy racer's super mode when all seven Chaos Emeralds are in your possession.
You think you know everything about a game and then bam! Another reveal appears. In true Sonic Frontiers fashion, we don't know what exactly this pumped-up version of the hedgehog will play like (the trailer only provides some cinematic footage), but let's hope that these new powers are enough to provide some changes in the game's original bouncy combat system.
With the game due out in under two months, there can't be many more trailers before we actually get to go hands-on with Sonic's next frontier. However, with the rate that these reveals are coming out, we wouldn't be surprised if there is more footage of Sonic Frontiers to come yet.

I wonder how that'll pan out, Super Sonic as an end-game objective, or periodically available for the big boss of each island you explore?
It looks like you might be limited to when you can use Super Sonic, like special boss fights as in more recent entries.
Bit of a shame something like this has been revealed before the game is even out. Ah well!
It's so funny to me how some 4chan leak from 2019 that nobody believed spelled out the whole game, right down to each island having a Super Sonic boss fight.
@RupeeClock periodically available, presumably with a new cyberspace themed form for the final boss.
If they are showing Super Sonic now it must be part of core gameplay, not just the finale of the game. I'm here for more super sonic like in the old games, but I'm still doubtful that what's being offered here will actually qualify as fun.
Sonic Automata
Looks meh... Gave Sonic multiple chances to impress me, but it always felt like a cheap franchise with a lot of potentials.
Adventure 2 Battle is still the best despite all its flaws
I'm still betting that there will be lots of empty areas and boring traverses in this game.
This was emotional. No thanks. I guess it really is not my Sonic.
@braincandy101
... Like in Breath of the Wild? Yeah, I see what you mean. At least you can actually go fast here, which is already more fun than any of the things you do in BotW, lol
I’m just going to be excited about this and leave all the hate by the wayside. It’s looking good, I love the vibe and I’ll but it close to day one, probably.
Sonic got yeeted into last week by that alien-looking titan
Still no signs of Tails, Knuckles, and Fang. Why?
@Mauzuri Now we could call this Sonic Frontiers of the Kingdom. The Breath of the Wild stuff are overdue now.
This looks like a somber and melancholy landscape... I'm not sure that works for Sonic who is comedic and has had ridiculously themed levels that were just fun in the best games.
@Muddy_4_Ever
Yep Sonic should be a happy game. I do not know why mass media wants to make everyone feel sad these days.
I must admit, that giant titan with the revolver bit looks really cool and intimidating. But he looks more like he could be from an anime property like Neon Genesis Evangelion.
@Jhena Because today's crowd wants everything dark and gritty, even if the characters and setting don't really fit that mold.
I swear I saw 8 emeralds but probs me going mad
Looks awesome-tacular!!
@Olliemar28 So, you'd rather Super Sonic always be relegated to a final boss encounter instead of the developers do something different for a change?
I'm sure the wow factor of seeing Super Sonic is kind of gone now, so it's better to be able to use him if we find all the emeralds, hopefully that doesn't deter from any of the game's challenges, though.
This new direction they're taking Sonic in seems interesting and I'm interested to know how the story unfolds.
That music tho, yes yes yes!
@russell-marlow To be fair, he never said anything about Super sonic being regulated to final bosses; Just that a trailer ruined a surprise. Which to be fair is pretty accurate, given these days trailers pretty much are okay with spoiling everything. Leaving little room for surprises.
@Serpenterror
Why would they put Fang be in a modern 3D Sonic game anyway? The reason they haven’t shown Knuckles & Tails yet is cause they appear later in the game. Super Sonic is part of the first island, Knuckles is on the second, and I assume Tails is on the 3rd island.
@FoxMcMuffin
Base form Sonic can shoot stuff from his hands in this game, so I’d be very surprised if Super Sonic cant shoot stuff now as well.
It’s fun to know that Super Sonic will have a bigger part to the story then to just be a final boss killer, but they should’ve kept this a secret for us to find for ourselves. I hope this means we can fly around the island before moving onto the next one and losing the form.
This may also mean that Super Sonic isn’t powerful enough to beat the final titan, but they’ll probably have Sage or his friends channel cyberspace into him instead of actually making a new form. Although he did have alternate super forms in secret rings & black knight, so it’s definitely possible.
It’s also quite funny to think that this fight was literally leaked back in 2019.
Sonic and the Forgotten Land
I still firmly believe this will be junk but welcome being proven wrong. Over the years I have been beat up by the terrible games Sonic Team has released and left with zero faith in their abilities to execute this idea.
I think a demo before the game's release may kill my reservations about this title but I feel a demo will be like Balan Wonderland and expose how undercooked this idea is and kill sales for the game.
@Muddy_4_Ever
I think if Sonic Team is out of gas they need to partner with a game Director and/or Studio that can have fun with the IP instead of making an oddly disjointed mess than Frontiers is most likely going to be.
@RupeeClock I was thinking it will be more like the Master Sword in BOTW (or really not unlike how obtaining Super Sonic worked in classic game as well), attainable at any time in the game, if you go through the difficult task of obtaining all 7 chaos emeralds. And you can use it when you activate it, but it will drain (perhaps not linked to your rings necessarily this time as it has in the past though, but some sort of gauge causes it to eventually dry up, and then you have to recharge that before you can use the power again).
Hoping this is good, haven’t played any 3D Sonic since SA2B on GCN but I would like to give this a try if they pull it off.
@steventonysmith Ya know, Sega has developed a couple of Nintendo games over the years like F Zero GX, it would be very interesting to see Sega have Nintendo develop a Sonic game for them once. Wonder if Nintendo would ever entertain such a thing.
@duffmmann
I don't think that would be very good, I'm thinking more like Toys For Bob
@Pandy-the-Panda If we mention more about him then maybe Sega would bring him back. Fang needs to return, his inclusion in the free fan made Sonic Triple Troubles remake was fantastic.
@Serpenterror
It would be cool to see Fang in another official game, but a story heavy 3D open world game isn’t really the right place.
@steventonysmith I really can't fathom how it wouldn't be good. If Nintendo took a Sonic core entry seriously, I don't see how it could be anything but a delight. It's not like Nintendo to fumble big releases. Now sure, if they put as much effort into it as Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, then sure, it would be a awful, but that's not the Nintendo I recommend comes up to the plate here.
@WaffleRaptor01 Super Sonic isn't a surprise anymore, it's become mandatory for each Sonic game nowadays.
@russell-marlow
Super Sonic hasn’t been mandatory in any Sonic game released in the last 10-11 years, in fact Forces didn’t even have it in the base package and required no work (except a free download) to unlock. Mania is the only game within that period that actually has a purpose for Super Sonic, and that wasn’t even mandatory.
So it actually is surprising to see Super Sonic being relevant and mandatory this time round.
