Although Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone is now hard at work on his next game Haunted Chocolatier, he's not completely done with the lifestyle-farming simulation Stardew Valley.
In a brief exchange with a fan on social media, Barone was asked if Stardew would receive any future updates such as Version 1.6 and 1.7. While he's not so sure about Version 1.7, he did confirm Version 1.6 is on the way. It will "mostly be" a mod-focused update but will also contain some new content. Just don't expect too much.
"1.6, yes. But it's mostly a modding-focused update (makes modders lives easier). There will be some new content but it won't be huge. 1.7? Who knows."
Barone was also asked about Haunted Chocolatier containing references to Stadew Valley. He confirmed there would be some links, but he's still not sure "how deep" the connection will be between the two games.
What would you like to see from a future Stardew Valley update? Comment down below.

Super cheap game, with tons of good quality play hours in it, and huge care and support from the developer. Stardew valley is just that amazing.
Respect to the dev for continuously giving in an industry getting greedier by the day.
I'll personally never see the appeal of games where you do mundane tasks you could do in the real world but it's nice he's still working on it when he could have quit ages ago.
@abdias Inexpensive? Sure. Cheap? Hell no! This is a feature rich game with so much heart and soul poured into it. I would describe this game with a lot of words, but cheap would never be one of them. And yes, I know you only mean inexpensive, but I've never been a fan of using that word cheap when only inexpensive is the word being meant as cheap holds a lot more weight.
@SteamEngenius Well once you recognize that all video games at their most basic level are the same idea: push input at correct time to either do or don't do a thing; you recognize that anything that provides a satisfying feedback loop in doing that is appealing and enjoyable, regardless of if those digital 1s and 0s are saying you're having sex or doing hard labor in a chain gang. If the end result is enjoyable to the player, then the menial task you've designated to getting the feedback loop, doesn't carry as much weight as the actual feeling you're achieving.
That's my long winded way of saying, I have no interest in the world in upkeeping a farm in the real world, but I sure as hell love these kinds of video games, as the feedback loop is that enjoyable.
I just bought the cartridge with the 1.5 update -__-
@Aurumonado Wish a website existed that catalogued when switch cartridges got an update. Being into physical preservation. I buy games on release which obviously isn't condusive to my wish!
@SteamEngenius I wouldn’t say that farming and the like is mundane, gardening can be immensely satisfying. Besides, the whole point of the original Harvest Moon games was to be a fantasy for city people getting away to the countryside, so it’s a lifestyle that they really couldn’t do in the real world.
This man is unstoppable. Props to him for being one of the most dedicated developers out there!
@Tangerine It's my understanding that Nintendo almost never releases updates cartridges. Sometimes third parties do though and in this case my Stardew 1.4 cart on my shelf bothered me every time I looked at it.
@Aurumonado I understand. I had bought 2 point hospital physically...then a year later they release a version with DLC included so I sold my old copy on eBay to buy the jumbo edition. I'd love for Nintendo to update the cartridges more, when updates are released for games.
They are still adding content? Oh my god! This game is a a steal!
SDV and Dead Cells are in a perpetual race to see who can supply the most infinite content. Kudos, and bravo to ConcernedApe and MotionTwin, probably the best consumer friendly devs in existence.
Disable the time limits please !!! The day is just too short !!!
@duffmmann
Well put.
Developers often talk about games in terms of "levers", where you give the player a lever they can pull to feel some accomplishment, and eventually you reward them with a bigger lever. It actually outdates video games ... that's a core design concept behind CCGs and TTRPGs. Regardless of how pretty it looks, that's all you're ever doing.
Although to be honest ... if I could till a perfectly square bit of land by hitting it once with a hoe and sell a single cabbage for enough money to buy 3 cabins ... sure, I think I could lean to love farming IRL.
@premko1 I was worried about time limits too, so I did some reading. Apparently there are no “real” time limits: you will never completely lose an opportunity to do something because you took too long.
@Tangerine There's some Nintendo Physical Switch collectors on Facebook and Reddit who are actually working on cataloguing the pre-update version of games on physical cartridges so collector's know which versions to go for.
@nimnio True , but it would be nice to finish all my work when the end of day comes .
@aozgolo Interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I don't have Facebook. Hopefully they make a website outside of Facebook and hopefully I find out if and when they do!
@premko1
tbh the consoles can also use mods as well but obviously that would require modding the console so you risk Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo banning you
@nimnio it`s not about productivity just relaxing and having good , long as you want it , time . In Stardew Valley the night just comes too quick to have soothing gameplay .
Amongst the Indie circuit's finest for me.
I'm excited for this, but I would rather have ConcernedApe update the mobile versions to v1.5.
Mobile has been stuck on v1.4 for over two years now.
I prefer playing Stardew Valley on PC but I would love to get it on mobile since it's the only platform that allows (manually operated) cross-save with the PC version, provided they are on the same version of the game.
I don't have a Nintendo Switch so I can't get that type of portability. Plus, while it does allow the transferring of saves to and from PC and mobile, it would require CFW and hacking, which I don't want to do for a console with current support like the Switch.
I'm in for modding my PS3, though, as games there could be delisted or bloody expensive, and Sony doesn't ban HEN consoles.
@premko1
Agree. Time moves way too fast!
I normally have to do a blind run and then restart after planning out what I'm doing for the day.
It's not chill
I also understand not wanting to abuse the system by just eating food to replenish energy while having time frozen.
But maybe there can be a compromise by significantly slowing down that timer.
People who think it's too slow can just go to sleep early.
Love this game but like why can't I marry krobus
