Fall Guys is going free-to-play, according to a Big Announcement livestream that premiered today.
As of June 21st, 2022, Fall Guys Season 1 will be free on all consoles, for all players. Anyone who already purchased the game will be entitled to a free Legacy Pack, which includes:
- Three Costumes (Veggie Dog, Regal, Feisty Dwarf)
- Free Premium Season Pass (100 Tiers)
You won't be able to spend Crowns in the store any more, but instead the team are "bolstering the Crown ranks" with new stuff. However, Kudos is staying, and all players will be able to earn it and spend it in the shop. You can also exchange your Crowns for Kudos.
The game has also been re-confirmed for a Switch release, alongside Epic Games Store, Xbox, and PlayStation, also on June 21st. There will be cross-platform multiplayer and cross-progression.
Here are the details for the Switch version:
- Handheld is 30FPS and 720p
- Docked is 30FPS and 1080p
- You can use both Joy-Con and the Pro Pad
PS4 has a new version of Fall Guys available to download right now, which players will have to grab if they want to keep playing. PS5 and Xbox Series X are aiming for 60FPS/4K, Xbox Series S is 60FPS/2K, and Xbox One will be 30FPS, going up to 60FPS on Xbox One X.
If you want to get in on the free-to-play game ahead of June 21st, you can pre-register on the Fall Guys website, which will grant you access to exclusive perks like costumes, emotes, and nameplates depending on how many people sign up.
There's also a new, massive update, which will add new modes, new sports, new costumes and more — but we won't hear more about it until closer to the release in Summer. However, we saw the three-piece dragon and the Golden Gladiator, as well as Blast Balls, a new sport to play with pals.
There are also some new IP collabs upcoming:
- Ezio
- Pusheen
- Three Godzillas (Godzilla, Mothra, Mecha-Godzilla)
- New IP levels (which they can't talk about yet)
And a new Level Creator Mode, too, which is "under construction" and will come to Fall Guys in the future — but it's still a "fair way off".
So, to recap:
Fall Guys comes to Switch on June 21st, with cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-platform matches. It's going free-to-play, but players who've already paid for it will receive a Legacy Pack for free, with costumes and a Premium Season Pass. It'll be 30FPS/720p in handheld and 30FPS/1080p in docked, and you can look forward to more content coming later this year.
Phew. That was exhausting. We can't imagine how the Fall Guys team must feel, although we presume it's some variant of "sleepy". Will you be getting Fall Guys on Switch? What do you think about the free-to-play announcement? Let us know in the comments!

Hmm... normally I stay away from free-to-play games, but I kinda feel compelled to give this one a try at the very least, so long as there's no pay-to-win shenanigans going on anyway.
with cross progression, I won’t have to start over which is nice. Now I’ll be able to play with my friends
I'm really glad it's going free to play.
it would have been dead in the water on Switch if it didn't.
cross play is a very important touch, too.
Sad to see this become free to play. Cool game, but I dislike the inevitable changes to the way the game is making money. I'd rather pay one, fixed price than have season passes and paid costumes.
The one instance where I am more than happy with a game going F2P.
I am so excited for this though. The second I saw Fall Guys I fell in love so being able to finally play it makes me over the moon. I was willing to pay for it as well, but now it's free to play? HALLELUJAH.
I hope they up the party limit to 8
What's a Pro Pad?
Season passes are just a way to bring in constant income. From a business perspective, it's great.
Doubt they'll ever get a penny from me though, I lost interest in the game quite awhile back - was fun for awhile at launch though.
This game is perfect for the switch. When it launched on the ps4 it’s was incredible but there want many levels to enjoy. Now after two years of updates and this latest season new players will have loads of content to enjoy. It really is an incredible party game.
@KoopaTheGamer there already was paid costumes and MTX with it
@Oubie my guess they mean the traditional controller version
Will Nintendo online be required? It's not needed for Rocket League which had a similar development.
@snarls200 Well, I don't see things improving now that those are the only source of income for them.
@snarls200 Ah of course, thanks! Was thinking of a special Fall Guys Pro controller.
They needed too do this, it’s the one thing I felt like that would have made it worth the wait/got more people to play and they did, I think it’s a very smart move in my opinion.
I haven’t watched the whole thing yet btw.
At the end of the day, people asked, they listened, good on them, and I can’t wait to finally play it on the switch.
I've had the game since its release on playstation and its been a blast, but I think this game will feel more at home on that switch so I may start playing on the switch from June.
Be warned people, you may find out you have anger issues you never thought you had 😂
...Well so much for that...I hate free to play games.
I have this game on Steam and this game is too boring.
Good the game was dying and it going free to play was probably the best choice for it.
Crossplay is also appreciated.
Well there it is.
@iLikeUrAttitude I’m very happy with cross progression, I did not want to lose all my skins, but they kinda had too do that didn’t they.
You should consider revising your description on the Xbox version. The Xbox One version is 1080p (30fps on S, 60fps on X), Series S is 2K, and Series X is 4K. Only half the Xbox versions are targeting 1080p.
F2P is the quickest way to get me to loose interest in a game
This game will probably join my lineup of current F2P games I am playing:
-Fortnite
-Rocket League
-Smite
-Pokemon Unite
-Genshin Impact
-Fall Guys
Hoping Genshin comes to the Switch soon so that all my main games are playable on Nintendo's platform!
Well that's one thing to knock off of the "What should Zara waste her money on this year" list.
I preferred a single price, but I think it’s necessary for the game to be popular again for it to be free to play.
30FPS. Hope you can turn cross play off.
Yes, finally! The game being free to play is also crucial. This could dominate my Switch if they do it right.
@Wilforce Updated! Thanks for the clarification, it was hard to keep up with all of the announcements 😅
Good news! I didn't care about it anymore, but now that is free... I'll have to give it a try!
@UltimateOtaku91 especially with the people who grab you for no reason.
@Joeynator3000 You hate F2P in a multiplayer game like this? Why?
I would understand that in a Zelda/Metroid/RPG game, but here...
I was going to give this a game a try, as a F2P game? Count me in. This and Disney Speedstorm can't come soon enough.
I'm not a big fan of games having economies based on cosmetics but I can't lie, I do like the look of this. It's perfect for the Switch.
If you haven't played play this yet I beg you to download and try it when it's released. It's easily my most played game over the past year or so on any format. It's just great fun and super cute to boot. I'll for sure be getting it on Switch so I can play on the go.
@Judgedean to be fair, it’s also 30 fps on Xbox one
This game's moment in the sun was fall 2020. Going F-2-P probably is the best course of action. I think it'll get a good number of Switch people who were curious as to what this was about.
Who's going to get this?
I had a decent time with this when it was free for PS+. This is exactly what they needed to do to bring me back. Very excited.
Why the hate on f2p games? Yes, pay to win games are stupid and should not exist, but games like Fortnite, Pokémon Unite, and this are just free with optional purchases. If you dont like the game or dont want to buy cosmetics, that’s totally fine but hating on the entire f2p model for games… I dont get it
@solarwolf07
Definately depends on how the game tries to promote spending money in game.
When it's a purely cosmetic like in this case but there are still rewards dolled out for continued play its no issue to me. None of the experience is pay walled which
If a game is built to push people into its marketplace by time wasting or gating you out of content then it can go do one.
I had some fun with Pokemon Unite but wouldn't have touched it if it hadn't been f2p.
I was mildly interested until I saw Epic Games was involved. Tencent, Epic Games and EA are just things I have decided to do without as I am not thrilled with what they represent for the industry as a whole. There are too many other gaming options out there and I am sure I will find something else.
"Anyone who already purchased the game will be entitled to a free Legacy Pack' ... yeah that sounds like great compensation 😂
If it's capped at 30 fps on switch & it's crossplay then people playing it on other platforms will have an advantage
@solarwolf07 I think it’s because just that many manage to screw the game up somehow, I will be open minded till I see how they do it.
In all honesty now that I think about it, why can’t they have it FTP, but you can buy the full game? And then get all the BP for free like normal.
The anti f2p elitism is so cute. Brings me back to arguing if SNES was better than Sega back in grade school.
@Would_you_kindly Moronic statement. This isn't a super sweaty competitive shooter that requires 5ms ping (oh wait, none of them do if you want to play for this thing called "fun"!). I'd say Switch users have the advantage since they can play while they poop.
Will we be able to use our account across multiple systems like Fortnite? I have it on PS4, and if it's free to play, then I might as well get it on Switch now too, but it'd be really great if I could use all my skins and stuff I've already unlocked, on the Switch.
Oh sweet I would probably give this game a try!
All that’s next is genshin impact and I’ll be happy.
@SteamEngenius not really moronic when it's true is it I have it on PS4 from ps plus so I can play it at 60fps if I want I was just stating a fact 🤷♂️
Looks like they learned from the chocobo GP fiasco, FTP is the way to go with this if it’s seasons and stuff like that. Really looking forward to try it on the Switch!
But can I still get the Sonic the Hedgehog costumes and the Kizuna Ai costume? Those are the IP collabs that I am really interested the most and was forced to miss out on because the darn game wasn't out on Switch yet!
JESUS YAY THIS IS AMAZING
@tameshiyaku I don't think any free to play games require an NSO subscription.
@KoopaTheGamer the amount of time that it took to port to the switch will not have been worth it if it was still paid cuz not a lot of people would have ended u buying it but now more people are going to try it tout
@KateGray Thanks. Totally understand, I’ve watched it twice and don’t understand why they’re defining it as a PS5 edition. My guess is it’s in reference to the exclusive PS5 skins.
I'm glad it has cross-play, but I'm not excited about the free-to-play aspect. It used to feel like a really fair and balanced game, but I can't imagine it will be anymore. This is a case where I would have preferred quality over quantity, but at least those who didn't want to pay get a chance to try it which is nice. I'll definitely download it, but my expectations have gone steadily downward since I heard Epic bought it and then from all the delays and then this announcement. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised, who knows.
@SteamEngenius I'm not against free to play in theory, I just despise the way Epic does it in practice. For this game, it is more that I think they will make the game less fun in exchange for various ways to suck money out of people.
Also, history has clearly shown that snes was in fact better than sega.😝
Free to play sounds good as long as you don't need a login and password at startup. That's an instant uninstall from me, in that case.
ayo sounds good to me just dont force microtransactions down my throat and im good
@FishyS There is literally nothing in the game that grants you any sort of advantage over others other than time invested and the (hopefully) resulting skill. Every single item available is cosmetic only.
Had to be free. Its 2 years old now, it's only a small game aswell so I'd say alot of people do not play it anymore.😔
@Drake cosmetics are an advantage in making the game fun. It was something to work for and it was equal to everyone, a rarity in games like this (now even rarer). In general, free to play often means 'let's think of a way to make this game enjoyable and then instead of having it be a complete fully enjoyable game we will hide more and more behind increasing paywalls so you have to either be left out or pay even more than a complete game would cost'. For good or bad, that is just the profit model and I personally really liked Fall Guys without that.
this was the correct choice. everything (free-to-play, resetting the seasons, cross-platform play) will breathe life into this game. console players play a lot more platforming games, Fall Guys should've been on other systems from the very beginning
also, if i recall, credit for store items (costumes, taunts) can be acquired through regular gameplay, you don't have to pay for anything, but you might have to win some crowns!
@kal_el_07241 I just got into Pokemon Unite. Great game. And it really is free. Despite what some YouTubers were claiming that it was a pay to win game.
It took a year longer than it was supposed to but it's finally coming! Nice that it is cross platform and cross progression, but 60FPS for Switch would have been preferable over higher resolution.
@FishyS Advantage in making it more fun or whatever doesn't really count because that's subjective and really doesn't impact gameplay because it doesn't change it in any way. He's talking about competitive advantages and there aren't, since everyone has the same chance to win. Besides, someone could say this: The price in cosmetics is the same for everyone and well, you could work (as in real life work) to get them just like everyone else, so it's still the same chance.
You mean autumn right?
@roy130390 I understand your point about the overall game including art versus competively 'winning', but the person was replying to my original comment so I was just clarifying what I meant. My original point was that the game (used to) feel much more equal than most games like this because not a single factor in the game relied on throwing down a ton of cash. I mean the game as a whole, not just how hard or easy it is to win a race. In my (obviously subjective) opinion that equality made it more fun but also was just refreshingly different compared to certain types of toxicity that accompany many competitive free to play games. Now it's kind of lost that unique almost Nintendo-esque flavor and turned into, well, an Epic game.
What does the article mean with xbox series s doing 2K? That's not a real output resolution. It (wrongly) substitutes both 1080p (1920x1080) and 1440p (2560x1440) in online discourse. By definition, it is much closer to 1080p, but a lot of people confuse 1440p with 2K.
While 4K is also not really true 4K, it is at least clearly used in marketing for 2160p resolution. Fun fact: 2K (2048x1080) and 4K (4096x2160) are actually resolutions used in cinema video recording, because they're larger on both sides than the full 1920x800 and 3840x1600 resolutions typically used in commercial movies.
@OorWullie yes, for the most part it is so, but I believe this upcoming Disney Kart racing game will require Nintendo Online.
@Parkour_LMan : As long as the generally accepted commercial misuse of “4K” is used interchangeably with UHD, misusing “2K” in a similar vein is no less (or more) egregious, though referring to 1440p as 2K is ridiculous as your cited resolution could perhaps be referred to as 2.5K for short (similarly, I’ve seen drones that shoot at a horizontal resolution of 2704 pixels advertised as 2.7K).
As a filmmaker, it particularly bugs me as I feel I always have to clarify what I mean when I refer to 4K (as I have a pro camera that can shoot at 4096x2160). I remember being so excited to see a “4K” TV for the first time (which cost AU$15,000 at the time) assuming that TVs were about to get even wider so that we can experience movies in their native resolution (or at least very close to it) in our own homes, and that television shows would gradually follow suit. Needless to say that I was crushingly disappointed.
@FishyS Ah, I understand. Personally, I don't have such a negative perspective about Epic but I respect your opinion. If it's worth something, Fall Guys has such a simple, pure and friendly gameplay for a lack of better adjectives that I don't see it losing that easily. Let's hope that it doesn't affect the game as much as you fear.
Can't wait! Rocket League got a huge player boost when it went F2P, so I expect the same here!
Looks like a fun party game!
checks info
...a 1-player local party game?
@kal_el_07241 you need to add Super Animal Royale to that list
@FishyS I've been playing Fall Guys since day 1 and Epic getting involved has done nothing but improve the state of the game. They've clearly injected money and time into the studio and moving to the 'Free To Play' model makes perfect sense. Best of all this won't harm the players in any way as any purchasable items are purely cosmetic and have no effect on gameplay.
@Chibi_Manny I don't see a reason why you wouldn't be able too
Inevitable and disappointing.
@FishyS While I don't know how things will change in the future, right now it seems like the season pass (which existing players will get for free) will reward you with paid currency, which you can then use to get some of the paid costumes or the following season pass for free. Of course people who only start playing once the game goes F2P will have to pay up for that first season pass, but I think that's only fair, it's likely to cost far less than the game itself does right now ($20).
I got the game on PS Plus during a rare time I subscribed to the service during the pandemic. So if I resubscribe for a month and open the game on my PS4, does that mean I can get the legacy pack? Then I can link my Switch account and get the goodies via cross-save? Anyway I am happy with this announcement and for sure will enjoy playing this with my family as we all have our own Switches.
