If you're a fan of arcade racers like Horizon Chase Turbo and Hotshot Racing, you'll want to keep an eye out for Sunrise GP, launching this year on Nintendo Switch.
Developed by Garage 5 and published by Gamedust, the game mixes themes of racing and traveling into one package, boasting colourful pastel-style art. Both single-player and split-screen options are available, with racing modes like Grand Prix, Quick Race, and Challenges ready to take you across various locales across the world. Oh, and there's a pretty nifty photo mode too to capture all those lovely sights.
Here are a few key features from Gamedust:
- Physic based gameplay. Each car significantly different from another in terms of dynamics
- The Grand Prix mode that wraps the game world in a series of races and challenges
- A local multiplayer split-screen mode for up to four players
- Arcade challenges and a quick race mode for short burst game sessions.
- Artstyle that combines cartoon, fantasy and realism
- Photo mode
More information on the game will be available in the coming weeks. So, is this racer up your alley? Are you still playing Horizon Chase Turbo or Hotshot Racing? Let us know!

"Splitscreen!" while showing a single car driving
I love arcade racers like this, but this one looks kinda sparse and flavorless.
It looks like a driving game, but I wouldn't quite say it looks like a racing game. Does anyone else feel like they're moving too slow?
@CharlieGirl Yeah, it almost looks a little TOO cel-shaded, to the point where it looks like a lot of detail that could have been there has been lost.
The trailer video made me much less interested... looks terrible.
Remember 80's Arcade Racer, when's that coming?
Looks a tad flat and it made the announcer's enthusiasm sound misplaced and forced.
New racing games are always welcome ^^
, however, I hope for games that include civil traffic as the classic obstacles in races, more racing modes and, maybe, hot pursuit racing.
Hope the controls are better than Neon Racing ...
Looks about as thrilling as having to read Jane Eyre. Which I have. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t thrilling
This reminds me of Auto Modellista. Anyone remember that? It was pretty neat. The driving was ok but the cel-shaded visuals helped separate it from other racers at the time.
Its a lite hotshot racing
We've already got so many great racing games on Switch...I wish we could get quality games in other sports. The sport library on Switch outside of racing games is pretty sparse - just like the environments in this racer.
There is nothing original here. The art direction isn't enough with the bland feature set.
This looks terrible, like an already low-budget mobile port that's taken "inspiration" from lots of other, more recognizable games and implemented NONE of it well. The horrible trailer certainly isn't helping it any, from bad narration to wonky looking handling characteristics, this just looks all bad.
Seeing bland games like this makes me wish that some company would come along and resurrect 90’s Arcade Racer!
Looks too cheap and boring plus the trailer is terrible: 4 game modes, tons of challenges, split screen, but shows nothing. Hopefully this is just a teaser trailer and an updated one is not far behind.
Comparing this to Hotshot and Horizon Chase is a bit of a stretch. I still play both of those games a bunch btw. Great for a quick race or two when I'm in the mood.
@StarPoint a small, independent studio is working on the game we already wanted to announce that there will be a split-screen, although it is not yet polished enough to show it
@Daggot when we are ready to show more you should change your mind Sunrise GP is a passion project and we want it to be a very interesting, small title with a great racing atmosphere
@CasGd How come you didn't just wait to make the trailer until it's more polished? So far it's just left everyone with a bad impression.
@StarPoint I think "bad impression" is too harsh a statement. We just wanted to show that we have a colourful, positive racing game. It will develop over time, get prettier and new elements will come this is an indie game and this is the development process. First of all, we wanted to be honest with the players and show the title we are working on as it is.
I hope that you will like the next materials that we will show in some time
@CasGd But nobody was even aware of the game before this trailer came out? I'm still a little perplexed as to why you didn't just hold off until you could actually show more of the features that the trailer talks about.
