Blaze has just announced the next Evercade release, and it's one with a strong NES focus.
Morphcat Games Collection 1 will include five games from the titular German studio, including the "massive local multiplayer hit" Micro Mages. A brand-new expansion game, Micro Mages Second Quest, will also get its debut on this Evercade pack.
Here are the included games:
- Micro Mages
- Spacegulls
- Böbl
- Super Bat Puncher Demo
- Micro Mages Second Quest
And here's some PR:
Morphcat Games’ standout hit, Micro Mages is now an infamous title, not just because of its incredible 4-player local co-op play, but also their open approach to the development process. The studio has talked at length about the challenges in developing a new modern game for original hardware in just 40kb. Their intention was to create a game designed today, but with the same limitations as developers in the 1980s, writing the game in 6502 ASM coding language. And Micro Mages was the result.
That means that the game is not only a great 8-bit game but one that would have been playable like any other back in the 1980s. Alongside this, Spacegulls is an enjoyable platformer that is often used for speedrunning competitions and was recently featured in Games Done Quick’s charity event. Bobl is a fun platformer that challenges players' skills in negotiating tricky passages through water whilst trying not to burst.
Alongside the three main games are two bonus titles. The long-loved Super Bat Puncher Demo is here in all of its demo glory, and the aforementioned first publication of the expanded Micro Mages Second Quest.
Pre-orders for Morpchat Games Collection 1 start on March 31st, with the pack going on sale on May 31st.
Blaze is also teasing something Intellivision-related for later today:

Hmm what's this Second Quest?

By now I have enough 8-bit games on the Evercade. I won't buy any of these anymore.
Micro Mages is so good. Better than several hundred original NES games.
@Tisteg80 but these are new games. Maybe the gremlin collection is more your speed with ps1 titles.

That said Micro Mages looks great.
...but...
I'd really like to see Evercade get something more mainstream. If they got something Turbografx related I'd be there.
I finally got around to trying Micro Mages a couple of months ago. It's quite good and does so much within its limitations. The sprites are tiny, but there's a lot of character infused into them. It was interesting to see the development video that they shared a while back, and it's the reason why I made sure to play it. Nice to hear that they've worked on more of that and they have this collection. I wish them success with this.
They certainly look the part.
If I had locals to play it with, I'd consider getting this just for Micro Mages.
Just got my Evercade Vs.
I'll grab this too.
Love both my handheld and home console.
Great collection of carts, I love reliving my childhood.
@AdventureIslandDude It truly is. I would love to see it ported to the Switch or even better, see this team do some more games other than their homebrew ones.
Super Bat Puncher is awesome, but we've had just a demo for quite a long time now...
The cost to play 8bit games is not sustainable if your owning Switch games at the same time. Not everyone can own both and invest money in both.
