It feels like a distant memory but it was announced a few years back that MLB The Show, developed by Sony San Diego and previously a PlayStation exclusive, would be coming to other systems; this was no doubt by the insistence of Major League Baseball and a desire to reach a wider audience. Last year it arrived on Xbox for the first time, but in a delightful turn of events this year's entry, MLB The Show 22, will also be coming to Switch.
It launches on 5th April alongside the PlayStation and Xbox versions, confirmed today as part of an announcement unveiling Shohei Ohtani as the cover star.
It's going to be a fascinating release; like a lot of sport games a big focus is the online mode, Diamond Dynasty, that has constant events to help you build a team of superstars. In MLB The Show 21 there was full crossplay and support between PlayStation and Xbox, so it'll be interesting to see whether Switch is included in that.
On 'last-gen' systems it also typically has graphics and performance options, with the latter focused on 60fps. This is a game where it is hugely beneficial to have smooth performance, so it'll be vital to see whether that's an option and just how much visual fidelity would have to be cut to get it there.
We shall see soon. Are you excited about MLB The Show 22 coming to Switch?

Let me guess, cloud version?
I'm happy to see that Sony is finally acknowledging that certain franchises shouldn't be platform-exclusive given their influences outside of the video game industry.
@UltimateOtaku91 no. 16.6 GB of game
@ModdedInkling they’re pushed into this by mlb though.
But yeah, I would love this to have motion controls! I’d buy it immediately. Very, very cool to have a Sony game on the Switch. And MLB is great every year.
Nintendo should just make Rusty's Real Deal Baseball 2.
@UltimateOtaku91 there's a boxart of the game at the end of the video.
Ohtani on the cover, hell yeah. I mean he was the obvious pick but still hell yeah. I'm glad this will be coming to the Switch, but I'll wait for reviews to see if it can handle the game properly.
This is awesome but I'm not gonna hold my breath until I see some reviews. I'm like 75% sure it's gonna have some serious performance issues.
@Friendly
Omg, I never actually thought of that. It would actually make the Switch version worth playing, if they were to implement the controls, Wii Sports style.
Mario Baseball would also be welcome. It's my favorite sport and I do hear good things about this series so I'm considering it. Also, the novelty of a PS Studios game on Switch is tough to pass up.
Sony developed games being released on Nintendo consoles is really crazy. Maybe the prophecy of the SNES-CD was leading up to this day.
@ModdedInkling Yeah, MLB was even technically the publisher of the game on Xbox, I suspect it'll be the same with Switch.
Here’s hoping NHL makes the same demand of EA. I may buy this just to show support. I don’t even like baseball.
I honestly don't care if it is a "Legacy Edition." This is a Day 1 purchase.
The Switch is now truly multiplatform. The only console with Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony games
@PBNightmare I've been saying this for years!!!!!
I am quite surprised by this announcement. In pro wrestling there's something in that industry known as "The Forbidden Door". To me, MLB The Show was a franchise that for World of Nintendo fans was a "Forbidden Door game". Well...not anymore though. Also, as a Los Angeles Dodger fan, this release is bittersweet. Namely, because Cody Bellinger will be on the roster and based on how he played last year? He's going to play really lousy in the game this year. Out!
Really wonder how this will play. Still super mega baseball is king!
Nice! Gotta like Ohtani on the cover too.
Very cool to see on Switch. These games are brilliant.
I actually said on here last year that pandemic was the reason The show 21 was never released on switch. The developers didn't have the resource to finish the switch version in time for release. Nintendo of America released them tweets teasing it's release because it was confirmed for real. Had no doubts at all about the Switch seeing The show 22.
@Medic_Alert This is not from EA, so no need to worry.
@ModdedInkling Actually you can thank MLB for bringing this game to Switch.
Cool. Now just need an NFL and NHL game on the Switch.
Sweet! Considering the large number of years since a Nintendo system has had a true, mainstream, full-fledged baseball game, this is a no-brainer for me. I used to love the All-Star Baseball games in '99, 2000, and '01.
@kingbk EA would either ruin it by releasing a "Legacy Edition" based on the Gamecube code or give us a stripped down Party-game style release that no one wants. Then when it flops because it isn't what people want, they would turn and blame sales for dropping support again instead of their own ineptitude.
Honestly I am shocked it isn't a cloud version, I bet there will have to be big sacrifices to have it be native on Switch.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Major sports franchise is coming to the Switch!
I'm so excited for this! Hopefully EA will take note and give us at least NHL if not Madden.
If Sony can develop a sports game for Switch with effort, so can EA...
Hrmmm...who is doing the port I wonder? A day 1 release is a pretty incredible feat. Also is there a Physical planned? The Show ain't a tiny file.
@Dpishere remember the show was released on Vita. just like NBA 2K series on switch I expect this to be a good port in line with what the hardware can achieve.
@kobashi100 I hope so, would be cool to have a good baseball game on Switch.
So, after more than 30 years, Sony finally makes a game on a Nintendo platform 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@ModdedInkling It won't be published by sony but mlb itself
@kobashi100
The Show on Vita has some major performance issues. Oddly its particular to the cut scenes. Plays nicely tho. This is another reason to stop toting my Vita around, almost makes me sad.
So Sony creates the Playstation to get back at Nintendo for screwing them over on the CD attachment for the SNES. Yet they are putting a Sony Studio game on a Nintendo console. Oh the irony.
Since this is the 1st time this franchise is on Switch it can't be a legacy version. Also that's EA. Doesn't mean Sony won't try it but never buy any "Legacy" anything from EA.
@Tzara all of the boxarts now show the Sony logos alongside the MLB logo. Last years's game only had the MLB logo on xbox and pc. This could mean that Sony is publishing every version this year
No interest whatsoever, but given the dearth of good sports games on the Switch, it's probably a solid addition to the system's library.
This is great news!!!!
RBI Baseball is cool...but The Show is the absolute best!!
@cyrus_zuo agreed, unless it is just a bad port. Praying that Madden comes too!
There ya have it. But im sure itll be like a 35gb DL and will turn me off. Hope I'm wrong though bc I need some baseball in my life.
This is awesome. I enjoyed '13 the Show on Vita, so it's good to see the series return to a handheld.
Here’s hoping ea does the same with madden.
Yes! I can't wait, since they aren't giving Jikkyou Power Pros a western translation release then this will make up for it all!
Not sure how this will look or play on Switch but it bodes well for Switch 2 in a couple of years.
So long as it isn't full price purchase for a cloud rental it's a win for Switch and Nintendo.👍
@Savage_Joe it's been confirmed MLB is publishing Xbox and switch versions. The boxart is not correct.
Correction: Sony publishing retail versions. MLB publishing digital versions.
Also hoping it gets a UK release, otherwise I'll be getting it from the US eshop
This is cool news. I have never played any of "The Show" games, so I will check this out.
Now all we need is MLB PowerPros on Switch!
@kobashi100 that's a weird publishing strategy. Guess mlb wants all of that good digital dough thanks to game pass.
Don’t care if the silly MT card mode is in.
Just need a franchise mode. Lovely stuff.
Madden and NHL next.
@cyrus_zuo I don’t know why people expect a full Ps5 XSX version on switch. I’d like a different version. Nothing wrong with have a slightly different version. I’m all over it.
It's about time we got a proper baseball game on the go.
Is it confirmed for europe too ?
Shohei Ohtani is the coolest, best thing in all of sports. I follow the Mets but I always make time to watch his pitching starts.
I suppose that this means we won’t be getting a new RBI game this year. There hasn’t been any news of a new game, their website redirects to the main MLB site and their social media channels haven’t been updated in a while.
I don't the games industry knows what a 'console branded studio' is anymore.
@BalloonFighter I've honestly never heard a single positive thing about RBI Baseball, not that I've heard many things about it overall. Was it any good?
I would not have ever guessed I'd live in a world with PlayStation Studios games appearing on a Nintendo console.
Great news! Loved playing it on my Vita. RttS is perfect for playing on the go. Can't wait to get it now!
Still no madden…
@Deady do you know who Tom Brady is? Or American football?
@UltimateOtaku91 it’s not cloud
@Zarudepie yeah that guy who lost two Super Bowls to my sweet baby boy Eli Manning. ‘-‘)
It's strange to see NLife not reporting on an unrelated Nintendo news, like Sony purchasing Bungie. It's usually one of their go to things.
@locky-mavo Bungie never put games on Nintendo consoles so there is that. Nothing that concerns Nintendo anyway
@UltimateOtaku91 Physical and digital.
@Medic_Alert that would be a EA Sports thing. I agree, I hope it isn’t too pair down and more towards 2K.
Before the Playstation, Sony Imagesoft published quite a lot of games for Nintendo consoles (NES, SNES etc). This reminds be a bit of that.
@romanista Super Mega baseball is truly the King. Great baseball game
@UltimateOtaku91 🤣
Cloud version or legacy edition - that`s for sure .
I think this is great news. I've found it royally annoying that a decent major league baseball game has skipped Nintendo's consoles for many years.
@Eh-Red if it wasnt coming to gamepass i would wait and see how badly they had to pair down the graphics....but i agree i still play my vita show 14 when im out my character is on his 14th season in the pro with 12 all stars and 3 world series wins and 2 losses.....as a pitcher...
Not for me at all but I am curious to see the graphics and framerate.
@Bret I like the RBI games, and they've just been getting better and better every year. A little rough around the edges, buggy, presentation is kinda lacking, all that, but man, I don't know. They're fun. I'd even argue that the last one was good, and they've done enough to modernize the series (while having options to play retro-style, which I like) that just about any baseball fan could enjoy well enough it even if it's not on the same level as The Show.
I say this as a guy who loved RBI Baseball 2 on NES as a kid, though. I like that the newer RBI games maintain a lot of the feel. It's just how I want a baseball game to be, personally.
This is my favorite sports franchise, and 2021 is the most played game on my PS5. I'm happy Switch is getting it, and I hope it's a good version, but I think I'll stay with the Playstation version.
I grew up a baseball fanatic. I don't follow it anymore, but I've been interested in having a good baseball game on Switch. There just hasn't been anything truly terrific yet.
This wasn't something I was ever going to buy on PS5, but I saw it on Gamepass and was like, oh, ok. Ya, now I can try it out. With cross saves I'm definitely getting on Switch, to have on Series X on the TV and Switch OLED in handheld.
@rjejr
It's a fully native version on Switch. Only cloud version is Xcloud. Don't think Stadia is getting it.
A.B.S.O.L.U.T.E.L.Y.
Nuf said!
@Almighty-Koz I've been thinking about buying that title for year to get some baseball on the go for years..(although I love SMB)... vita remains a lovely piece of kit
@rockodoodle Yeah the lack of Madden on a system with 100M units sold is just crazy. Port the mobile one or something - I mean goodness.
@RareAir23 While MLB games use rosters from the year before, they generally use stats from 2 years ago.
Although, come to think of it, it will be pretty awkward if they're using the small sample size stats from the shortened 60 game 2020 season.
@dcstud Yeah, the last good baseball game on a Nintendo system (not counting "Wii Sports Club") was actually "Nicktoons MLB" for the Wii.
@JayJ @Dpishere There are good baseball games on Switch, but they’re in Japanese. It’s good The Show is finally coming to reach a broader audience.
